Month: May 2014 | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 2 Month: May 2014 | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 2

semi-Monday Post the Wakefield Doctrine (“it’s note pad5 Week!!”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Ulysses-sirens-Draper-L

if rogers are parchment paper with calligraphic, perfectly spaced, each-letter-a-work-of-art (conforming to a highly developed standard) and scotts are back of envelopes, semi-clean napkins from-the-table-at-the-diner, some written, some printed, then clarks are: (nearly) properly organized with headings and sub-headings, mostly written, but lapsing into printing (that starts out pretty good, then strays into a mix of capital letters and small ones…and the paper is a legal pad ( for a clark a legal pad simply screams: ‘sure your ideas are crazy…but we are used by Lawyers and even some doctors…and …and we have a margin!!!…so you can add the modifications and qualifications and reiterations to the attempt to express a simple coherent thought.)

And so, we begin the week by saying to the Readers,  ‘time to perform without the net1

Bullet Points!!  yay!   so, for projects and endeavors and such, the Wakefield Doctrine tells us that:

  • clarks write out goals and refuse to accept the credit for attaining them,
  • rogers write Mission Statements and find people who are willing to agree to them and declares ‘mission accomplished’ and
  • scotts look at you and the pad and pencil….and back at you and pick up the pad and (holding it close to their face, looking over the top of the pad at you), throws it down and runs out the door…the writing on the pad is, ‘screw this!! no time…lets go do something!!!”

note: still toying with ideas as to how to do the Posts of the week… mostly, I’m concerned with not reaching the scotts and the rogers in the readership… so my first thought was: I can write ‘asides’ in different color type, you know  the scotts in red  (yeah!  fuckin red !! c’mere lemme show you something!!) and clarks in blue ( always with the boring but steady, and yes, aren’t we serene and peaceful…I will choose to believe that the glazed eyes are a sign of inner enlightenment and not ‘jeez louise is this guy ever gonna get to the point?!?‘) and for the rogers?  whatever the opposite of what is suggested (… this joke had me totally lol’ ing in my head this morning.)

note: yes, it’s gonna be like this all week!  except for Thursday (and maybe one day for a vid post) but all week.

note: the goal? the reason? (the Question asked by  only the clarks)  to find a new place to stand, to take this blog forward into the next phase.

note: of course we’ll have vids and contests and such…

1) ok, this one time then, it means that you’re all on your own, figuring out what the hell I’m going on about…at least for this week2

2) and this, only because I don’t want to leave the new Readers sitting wondering what the hell that Doctrine thing is going on about3

3)…now that I hear myself type that, I’m thinking ‘hey! why the hell aren’t you old-timers helping the new Readers with your Comments and such… you want this to stay a tiny, secret club or don’t you think anyone else can figure this out?4

4) really?, well, I assure you, the new generation of Readers are going to be so quick at picking this shit up, we might not even notice that they’ve been here (and moved on)

5) come on! it’s a sub-title ‘hook’…doesn’t have to mean anything!  sheesh

TToT for Saturday the Wakefield Doctrine (…nope! got nothin! no clever little side-title)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

1) (apparently) we are approaching a significant anniversary for this, the-bloghop-that-Lizzi-built. I can say, ‘apparently’ without sounding like I’m not keeping up with things because of my Y Chrome heritage. It is an established, medical fact, that my people are unable to remember certain dates

2) having said that, I do recall Jak’s clearly excellent suggestion for last Summer’s, anniversary, i.e. to have it incorporate ‘naked cake’…rumour has it, he is spearheading this year’s celebration research

3) …oh! yeah… damn! almost forgot!! “I am grateful the following: ”  ( this being the requisite set up to the list of Ten Things! Just imagine that I have that phrase at the beginning of this List…but don’t try to imagine why, given that this is a computer and nothing could be easier, I didn’t just cut ‘n paste it.)

4) I want to thank roger for this week’s Thursday Guest Post Post, he stood up for rogers all over the place… and it was a well-written and enjoyable-to-read Post, as is only natural, what with him not only being a roger, but, in fact, the progenitor roger (which only means, he is the reason we don’t have a ‘theory of clarks, scotts and barrys’ which would totally be stupid, and all the docTees would have to be corrected)

5) speaking of docTees, I’m really trying to get the next edition to manifest in our common reality… two challenges: design and finance.  The design challenge is because it has been suggested, (mostly by Ms. Rogers), that you people of the X Chrome persuasion would prefer a different form of torso covering… specifically some type of tank top. The thing that’s giving me trouble is where to fit everything! They don’t have as much printable area as does our traditional line of docTee. We’ll continue to produce the traditional design, but if anyone has any thoughts on how to include the following mandatory elements:  the Wakefield Doctrine/ the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers  (and) the url  (and) ‘clark‘  (or) ‘scott‘  (or) ‘roger‘  please let us know!

6) …speaking of docTees and contests, I remembered how much fun they are last night, while on the vidchat. Lizzi’s video on this week’s TToT contains a certain comedic element that I found only a few people recognized, we I sponsored an impromptu contest, but only one person won a docTee, Linda!  (…at about 1:50 into Lizzi’s vid, she does something that is a ‘staple’ of the physical comedy genre… a basic element of the vocabulary of comedy)

7) I should include ‘my work’, as a grat item, as it is not only essential to whatever it is I do with my life, but it is also a laboratory for working out and developing the Wakefield Doctrine as a tool for self-improving myself … much yet to be be learned and understood

8) our continued anti-appreciation for Christine’s infirmity. ( sounds like a great title for a romance novel series!) Now, we trust that Christine will understand that we use the term ‘infirmity’ only to reference her current mis-aligned tricycle patellar-mocus, and not as a general characterization of her physical/mental state.

9) We will be auditioning clarks for next week’s guest Post post… all are encouraged to apply…only those who refuse to apply are qualified and, of those, only the applicants who insist that someone else would be much better, will be considered

10) oh! yeah!  the photos!! (in today’s Post)!  lol  well one ( of the two)  is easy!  Una and I went for our weekly walk* and, since I didn’t have any duct tape to stick the video camera to my head, I thought, better to do a ‘still shot’, the better to spare me the grief when Dyanne and Christine read the Post…. speaking of Christine and Dyanne (and Jean, for that matter), the other photo* (the thumbnail on the landing page), that is a photo of a friend of mine at work…she is a scott and, for whatever reason, I actually noticed that she had new shoes on, and her enthusiasm at my perceptiveness made me think, “damn! I should get a picture of this!”  and so the photo.

That was enjoyable, we want to thank roger for his guest Post (writing) and for all the Readers (reading) for making the First Annual Explanation Week (annually) such a success.

Easy day today. Lets dispense with the double-windsor of grammar and the corset of logical presentation and just have a little chat about the week past. aiight?

shout out to them what go for the FRIST!  Leading in the scoring has gots to be Jean ( all, jean of) she pretty good at the FRIST(ationing).   hey, Christine! are you chewing the woodwork yet? (this is, of course, a reference to her predominant scottian worldview, in general and her being somewhat restrained,  by her tearing of her menial triacylglycerol-abacus and having to use crutches and such.. as we know, scotts ain’t got time for sitting around while they heal, the result is often observed in: increased playing of online scrabble, a hyper-awareness of movement by anything within eyesight and increase acuity in detecting sound… yeah, they totally know how to follow doctors orders), speaking of scotts, Joy who has promised us a copy (well, more a viewing) of her celebrity video (woo hoo!!), reports out are that it has women, cars and illegal acts!  I ask you all, what’s not to like?  Kristi  that’s all we’re going to say…. (lol, one of things I like the most about her… the energy that is a part of everything she does… ex.  (posting about buying groceries): “…the fuckin store was full of …people and this woman was yelling at her child, so naturally I tapped her on the shoulder (using my ‘less-that-12-items-basket’) and asked her to stop but then this really hot Manager started to…”).  Lizzi… acck! she spent, (at last reports), the last half of this week without…access…to…the internet (!!!) ayieee!  what an awful thing to happen to anyone, I understand she is back and readjusting, hopeful she will be back in time for the vid chat.   hey!  speaking of vid chats… you know who’s a reglar  on our little party-at-George-and-Jane-Jetson’s every Friday?  Laura.  very cool  (she writes this blog History of a Woman )  also thanks to Michelle for joining us for the Guest Post Thursday…(as everyone knows she and Lizzi are the hosts of the Friday vidchat)  and, of course, zoe  for providing such beneficial and insight-generating obstinacy  on the Doctrine!  (it’s not talking-out-of-class, to mention that zoe is a self-professed clark with a significant secondary rogerian aspect)… and while interesting simply as a combination, one of the effect of her secondary, is to present challenges that I cannot present to myself, i.e. in the process of presenting the Wakefield Doctrine.  very cool… in fact, I had something to say about the subjectivity of the Doctrine as a tool (in response to a Comment from zoe from, like, months ago) that I think I will have to revisit…having lost my train of thought and all, (has to do with a use of the ‘this Doctrine is for you, not them’ principle).

but that’s all the time we have, but tonight, tonight!  Wakefield Doctrine presents….. Lizzi and Michelle   as you’ve never seen them…. sure to be banned in Boston and rallied against by: the PTA, the MOMA, Christian Termperance Union, the NRA, the NBA, the PGA and….and the LPGA!! so don’t miss it….come join us at 8:00pm EDST*  tonight on google hangouts (if you don’t know what that means, ask and Lizzi will send you an invite)

* of course, the Secret Pre-vidchat Discussion Group convenes at 7:30 (or whenever Jean and zoe get there)….tonight’s secret password:  rogers

Thursday, Guest-Post Thursday the Wakefield Doctrine (‘clarks think, scotts act and rogers….’)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Today our Guest is Roger (read him at the Secessionist Rag )

A guest post. Hmm.
I’ve tried this before, sometimes with so-so results, and sometimes with no results at all.
But it seems that things have changed around here a lot.
The WD is much more of an exclusive neighborhood these days.
In days of olde, the WD consisted predominantly of people who had known each other forever, throwing fledgling ideas back and forth at one another like an eighth grade food fight. A guest post back then was an open invitation to throw the first handful of mashed potatoes and run for cover.
. We were all quite new to the idea of blog writing back then, and there was a very high level of energy being expended. Fun, in a terrifying sort of way, like not only taking your hands off the railing on a roller coaster, but trying to stand up at the same time. And not throwing up all over the scott in the front seat. ( scotts would be in the front ( so they could stick their heads out the window ( Ok, no windows, but same difference ) rogers in the middle ( best spot for overall stability, and keeping the scotts in plain sight) and clarks in the back so they could observe stuff, and maybe consider throwing a roger to a grisly death. Or maybe just push him into the front seat with the scott. That would be fun to watch.
Yup. Just like that.
Today’s Doctrine is all grown up by comparison. Civilized people being generally respectful of one another. Links to blogs all over creation, and an actual community evolving. Evidence that the Doctrine actually helps people. Clark turning into a whirlwind social director out of necessity ( and he still doesn’t think he has any roger in him…Oop! There it is!!)
It’s good to see it all. Change is not always welcome, but almost always necessary.
And oh yeah, Clark- a surprise message from Glenn-
Well…you know.

Explanation Week mid-point the Wakefield Doctrine (sorry, the photos are related to the post when I started, not when I finished)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Woodworking-Shop-Tools

Remember in school, in the review period before the big exam, there would come a moment when the Teacher would actually relax and act like a regular person? Everyone would be all, “is …. going to be on the exam”? or “..should I of memorized the periodic table!!?”  or even  “…only have a No 3 pencil will that keep my answers from being recognized?”  and in a lull, someone would ask a question like, “so when you went to school did they….” and the teacher would hesitate (still in teacher mode) but then come around and sit on the front of their desk/or even the lab bench and answer like they were anywhere else but in a classroom?  the odd thing, the one who asked the question would, more than likely, be a clark.

Speaking of interesting…

the Wakefield Doctrine is a tool, to help those so inclined, to better understand the people in their lives. the Wakefield Doctrine is a perspective that, directed inwards or outwards, allows us to see the things we do in a slightly different light and, by doing that, lets us gain an additional insight into why people act and say and think and feel the way that they do. the Wakefield Doctrine, used correctly, will cut down on the number of times you find yourself saying: “now why on earth would they go and say a thing like that? I really thought I knew them better than that!”

hey! you all know the difference between what each of the three worldviews represent in the use of the Wakefield Doctrine and what they may mean to us as individuals, right? We talk about scotts and clarks and rogers and it’s only natural that we are thinking about a person: we know, have been married to for 32 years, work for, got into a fight in the 3rd grade, went to boarding school with, lost our virginity to, got divorced from, and sometimes still dream about, right? That’s part of the cool thing about the Doctrine!* The way we can see the people in our lives through this lens.

But the three worldviews also represent broader and less personal aspects of life. The spirit of the Explorer opening new lands can be seen as a manifestation of the scottian aspect. The discovery of radically new insights that eventually become improvements to life, shows us the clarklike capacity to see what has never been, the civility of civilization, rules to protect as well as rules that restrain, is an example of the human experience at it’s most rogerian. The Wakefield Doctrine, it’s three worldviews, can be seen as manifesting in all aspects of life and human history and sociological forces and inner drives and politics and fads and fashions and pretty much anything you might care to apply it to. This is a clunky way of saying that, in principle, there are no good worldviews and no bad worldviews. None is inferior to, nor superior to any of the others. Collectively they account for all that we experience.

Just thought I would remind us that, we all have the potential of all three within, we all have the capacity to appreciate the world from the perspective of any of ‘the other two’ (other than) our predominate worldview. Totally difficult to do this, we are only beginning to scratch the surface of the use of the Doctrine as a way to self improve ourselves, but it is all there…contained among the three worldviews.

*Warning!! Warning!! New Readers!! there’s still time!! Unless you are prepared to see the clarks and the scotts and the rogers in your own, personal, private lives, you might want to put down the Doctrine. The simple fact is, once you understand this thing, the people around you will totally start acting like the three personality types so much, that you will find yourself thinking, ‘what the hell! they’re messin with me…they already learned this Doctrine thing’.  and the worst part is, you may not be able to stop seeing the clarks, scotts and rogers!…
