“…the sun almost comes out.” the Wakefield Doctrine: Ten Things of Thankful: Splátka Číslo štyri!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

the-internal-dialogue-is-what-grounds-carlos-castaneda

(somehow we are already a month into this bloghop! Given life by Considerer* this blog hop has become a weekend-long conversation** on the topic of Gratitude and appreciation of the day to day life we all experience).

There are, of course, co-hosts** who, with their contributions, help create the really unique thing about this here blog here… Ten Things of Thankful has become (over the few weeks we have been doing this), a conversation.  A lot of bloggers strive to engage their Readers, trying for a dialogue, however, few succeed. This blog is clearly showing signs of being the exception. Personally, I had my doubts about trying for a 2 day  ‘posting period’…thinking that the initial influx of Posts would wane at the end of Saturday, leaving this blog hop to languish on Sunday. I am pleased to be wrong! (Item #1: on the Secret list of 10 Things Thankful for June 29-30, ‘happy to have been wrong’), and paradoxically, it was the ‘extra time’ made available to people to submit their Posts that created the foundation for a conversation to come into life on these pages. (damn!  there’s my hook!  er  my thesis..  Item#2: ‘finding a theme to tie the words together in order to write this Post’).  In addition, Considerer being over in the UK somewhere, she starts ‘the ball rolling’ at midnight local time which has it up and running when I get to it, in the morning (my local time for me being EDT).  Deliberate or not, running the idea of a  blog hop running for the entire weekend is the stroke of genius that will so make this blog hop the place to be!.

The other thing unusual about how this blog hop is developing, once again courtesy of our hostini prime, is the idea of multiple Posts… as in, if you get an idea for a Post after reading the contributions of the others, you have the time (and audience) if you want to submit another Post on Sunday!) I am really grateful for that (cha ching! Item #3: ‘the appreciation of C0nsiderer’s having the whatever to insist on a 2 day blog hop!’).
In any event, if you are reading this for the first time,  be sure to visit all the other Posts!!  thank god Considerer has some very skilled and talented writer-friends. (…wait for it!….. Item#4: ‘the company that I am keeping here as a co-host). You will see not only a very wide variety of styles… but, (the) viewpoints and insights available here adds up to something pretty damn exceptional. ( Item#5: ‘the variety of writings here in the 10 Thanks’. (Kind of a mulligan but I’ll be glad to take it.!)) …. (yes, yes I will claim that as Item #6: ‘being allowed to enjoy writing this Post in whatever weird-ass way I seem to find amusing’).

In all seriousness, I am grateful for having the friends that I have as a result of  my efforts at writing my own blog, the Wakefield Doctrine. It may sound somewhat selfish, but I get a direct benefit from my participation in the Then Things Thankful… I slowly improve my writing, mostly by reading and trying to understand how you people (collectively) manage to convey your ideas, thoughts and most importantly, (to me), the emotions you have, as you share the Ten Things in your blog Posts. I will say, without fear of contradiction, I get something every time I participate here. I may not always see it or be able to express it, but I am beginning to feel it. ( Items # 7,8,9)

Thanks Considerer!

(…lol  am I really the kind of person that would leave that hanging, just for ‘effect’?)

*** mulligan: In golf, a mulligan is a stroke that is replayed from the spot of the previous stroke without penalty, due to an errant shot made on the previous stroke. The result, as the hole is played and scored, is as if the first errant shot had never been made.

Finish1The2Sentence3Friday4
The best fourth of July I had was…

…will be,

providing I don’t: a) get hit by a meteor (or a metaphor, in a manner of speaking), b) find myself locked in a endless loop of a memory of a past deed (something I have observed in the very old, there are few more horrifying forms of slow death than this, c) have a stroke (as did the friend of a friend did a couple of weeks ago…leaving an otherwise healthy person with the goal of learning how to swallow food, d) forget that all of what I have is a function of what I do, not what I think I might do, not what I know I might do, and certainly not what I hope to do, e) get shot by a upset husband or poisoned by an annoyed wife, f) identified by a secret government organization as being a source of internet oddity and (hopefully) semi-subverseive thoughts and ideas,

this 4th of July

because of the company* that I have been keeping in the last 8 or 9 months, here in the blogosphere,  not the least of which are the people behind this blog hop and the other blog hops** I get to participate in.

Here, conveniently set apart by the ‘butlers of grammar’  is the appropriate holiday Post, (seeing how, according to Mistress Stephanie, we will not be doing the FTSF next week)

Quick reminder about this Holiday:  If you do not know that July 4th is one of the most scottian of holidays, then you need to write  in one of the Comment boxes below 50 times

scotts love loud noises, it lets them believe they can have an effect on the world“.

Seriously, picture the coming Holiday:

  • takes place at the height of the Summer season
  • eating and drinking to excess is encouraged
  • minimal clothing allowed in virtually all public places (including churches and hospitals)
  • outdoor sports activities including chasing frisbees, being dragged behind a boat and the use of explosive devices (such explosives, that were it December instead of July,  a visit from Homeland Security would be the immediate result)
  • …minimal clothing

So for you non-scotts reading this, three July 4th Survival Tips:

  1. stay indoors
  2. keep the lights off and the glow of the TV shielded from windows and doors
  3. turn up the air conditioning and ….wear extra clothes

We hope that helps.

…so lets have Grace remind us of the spirit of the 4th

* thanks  to all the Friends of the Doctrine and DownSprings for making this the best, ‘what-do-you-mean-the-rest-of-the-planet-may-not-care-about-our-little-holiday-yes-it-does-involve-explosives-and-beer-no-I-can’t-think-of anything-else-anyone-would-want-in-a-Holiday-no,-I-don’t-think-they-are-jealous-and-no-I-don’t-think-anyone-would-be-interested-in-what-happens-if-you-put-that-in-your-bathing-suit’ …ever

“…and I come back to find, the stars misplaced” the Wakefield Doctrine First Annual Doctrine Video Brunch!!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

brunch

Hey, what you doin this coming Sunday morning?  ( you know what? you’re absolutely correct! if this Doctrine is anywhere near as good as it’s been cracked up to be, you don’t need to answer that question, we already know! )

clarks will be awake… so very awake, even when we think we are trying to sleep, (…yeah, that’s a good one! like we ever sleep). we’ll be awake/half-awake (ha ha) or totally awake, you know why? because of you. (‘you’ being defined as: children anxious to be up and noisy, dogs who, sensing that you are awake decide now would be a great time to alert the family of the presence of…anything alive in a 2 block radius…spouses who are still asleep and it is so easier to just get up and take care of things rather than have to listen to the, “I work hard all week, can’t I just sleep one morning?” speech)

scotts will be sleepily sleeping and it will be our decision, our own damned fault if we get them up (on purpose or …innocently enough, like they are ever not ready at the slightest provocation) scotts resent sleep because it robs them of chase time, of yelling time and whispering-in-ear time… but a scott, even when awake-due-to-the-sounds-of-the-family, will stay in bed  until they give up and venture forth, (mostly) so they can observe the rituals of whichever family members are inclined to want to attend religio-socio-active rituals, including but not limited to: going to Church, going to Sunday School, going to Grandma’s house, going downstairs and cleaning before the guests can arrive.

rogers will be asleep and they will remain asleep, until it is time to wake, and they will then stay in bed until it is time to get up and they will stay in their night clothes (which, more often than not, will include large robes, but no form of footwear) and, when they get up, a roger will always find something that needs to be done in the kitchen. (For reason’s still not fully understood), if you have an adult roger in your household (and if they drink coffee), you will have fresh coffee, from grounds…in coffee pots …complete with the very pleasant aroma and, more often than not, real creme (but half n half is considered a viable substitute), they seem to use the smell of perked coffee as some form of phernomic cover  for their Sunday-morning ritual.

In any event, this coming Sunday, the Wakefield Doctrine will be using the google+ ‘hangout’  thingie  to link up any and all DownSprings, Friends of the Doctrine, Readers or anyone else who may happen by the digital neighborhood. So what will happen at 9:00 am EDT  /2:00 pm BST / 9:00 pm SGT

You’re all invited. And we will send out an invitation on the google+ so watch for that…. or you can find us on ‘the facebook’ as the Wakefield Doctrine gets all international in da house.

Twisted MixTape Tuesday the Wakefield Doctrine (“…and his hair was perfect!”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and roger)

4620354141_6aa484780e_z

Jen and Kristi  show up at our metaphorical door again!!  “Hey!  come on!!”  (Jen’s standing on the porch… Kristi is driving her mother’s car)   from the car, Kristi shouts, “Lets go… you said you wanted to have fun… bring what you want to listen to and lets get going”

Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday 13

It’s Tuesday and the tunes are loose. This Mix Tape Tuesday is Part 2 of the 1970’s. I usually try to say something that will tie the Wakefield Doctrine to the era, the zeitgeist, if you will  but…. guys!  …the 70’s   I’m going to make a statement and trust that all who read this will not take offense. Well, I’m not really concerned about you taking offense, I am concerned with sounding like a ‘hey, you wouldn’t understand if you didn’t live it‘ kinda guy. But, if you find yourself listening to the following 6 tunes and think, “what the fuck is going on here”…. I will not be surprised.  Today’s Tuesday’s Mix Tape (Number 13, no less) is meant to convey the feel of this decidedly baroque  Decade, as opposed to trying to encapsulate the incredibly wide range of music that was created in this 10 year period. As someone who lived through this time, I will, on the occasion of dreamlike recollection, often say, “what the fuck?”

So lets go…

capital letter-less Monday! the Wakefield Doctrine ( it’s more fun than you might think!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Audience

hey, you know how we say that one of the primary values of the Wakefield Doctrine lies in it providing a certain perspective on behavior that, when applied to our own lives, proves to be a unique  tool for self-development?

well, we do.
the important thing is this: in order to effectively use the Wakefield Doctrine as a tool for self-improvement and/or self-development it’s necessary to understand the nature of the three worldviews.

new readers! dig this: we are all born with the innate capacity to experience the world in one of three ways, or worldviews (aka personal realities): the world/life as an Outsider (clarks), living and developing as one must to survive and flourish in the reality of the Predator (scotts) and experiencing the world as a member of a Herd (rogers). you with us? fine. we all ‘pick’ a worldview and grow up and develop our personalities in response to the particular challenges and advantages found in these realities. the thing is, we retain the potential to see the world as ‘the other two’ do. for example, I’m a clark, predominant worldview is that of the Outsider which means the world around me today is such that I do not fit in, I see things in a way that results in my demonstrating a certain creativity, I spent a lot of  time being self-effacing, (often amounting to self-destructiveness), I have an insatiable appetite to learn new information and I am simultaneously sentimental and cold. that is because that is the nature of the world I wake up to.  I also have a secondary (and a tertiary) aspect. my secondary is that of a scott and my 3rd is rogerian. (btw these secondary and tertiary aspects? thats why people sometimes will say, ‘hey I must be some kind of new personality type! like a clarkroger, because most of the time I feel like I’ll never fit in and then sometimes I can be real real stubborn and obstinate’  that’s your secondary showing through.

so…learn the characteristics of the three worldviews. observe your fellow lifeforms. infer the reality that they appear to be responding and reacting to and once you are able to correctly infer the worldview of the other person, you will know more about them than they know about themselves.
so…learn the characteristics of the three worldviews. observe yourself. first eliminate the obviously not fitting worldview, then hold the other two worldviews up and see which one makes the world make (more) sense… that is your predominant worldview. that is what will be useful to you, if you have an interest in: understanding the behavior of the people in our lives, taking better advantage of the people in our lives, knowing more about the inner thoughts and feelings of the people in our lives and , for some of you… learning ways to improve your own life.

we used to do an internet radio show and one of the things I always tried to say to the listener about the Doctrine was, “the Wakefield Doctrine is concerned with ‘how you relate yourself to the world around you’.  note that I did not say, ‘…how you relate to the world’… I said, ‘ how you relate yourself to the world around you'”.  that distinction is of critical importance in making the Doctrine a useful and effective tool.

… so we will stop here for today.

… one thing!  to clarify my point, at the beginning of today’s Post, the key to using the Doctrine is learning and understanding the nature, characteristics and such of the three worldviews. in fact, it was DownSpring Cyndi who proffered the term ‘fluency’ as a way to describe our efforts to learn about the three worldviews, i.e. “hey, I am becoming more fluent in the scottian worldview… FUCK!”  or “my fluency in the rogerian reality allows me to approximate the ‘projectile disinterest’ that we see so many of the ‘natives’ employ to such devastating effect”

(to be continued)

Friend of the Doctrine, Melanie has let us know that, due to shifting priorities, she would have her other blog  ‘Steer Career Success‘  listed on our blogroll… it’s a good and useful and fun site, it has to do with jobs and careers and such and totally ties in with where we are taking this conversation about the use of the Wakefield Doctrine in the workplace… so stop over at her blog and  say ‘hidy’

speaking of sent ya… if you are still reading this Post, I totally want to engage you in …. conversation!   we are having the first weekly Wakefield Doctrine Video Brunch,  this coming weekend. since you are clearly interested in the Doctrine, I totally care about making the Vid Brunch convenient to your time zone… so leave us a Comment  and let me know your ‘zone  …am currently thinking to start in the early am this coming Sunday  (’cause Friend of the Doctrine Michelle is a nicely symetrical 12 hours ahead of us. but there is still room to play with the exact starting hour)

hey, ever one… Friend of the Doctrine, Mod Mom has got herself a whole new look  over at elleroy was here   (yes, the Rickenbacker is still there…)
