the Wakefield Doctrine Open Enrollment Day!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

For reasons that I do not understand, we have a Post today. Perhaps it is simply that the pattern is established, i.e. that I write a new Post every other day (or third day) at minimum. Maybe it is because I have a feeling that the body of knowledge that is the Doctrine is going through yet another ‘growth spurt’. It might even be that I know that there are some Readers out there, who are on the edge of taking the leap and writing a Comment.

Whatever1

So lets keep this short. Here’s the thing:

The Wakefield Doctrine is a way of looking at people, the way they act, re-act and inter-act. The Wakefield Doctrine is a way of understanding our relationships: (with) our spouses, our friends, our jobs and the gigantic bunch of strangers that comprise the world. The Wakefield Doctrine is a tool, one that we can learn to use on ourselves to make the good things that we do better and the bad things that we do… better. The Wakefield Doctrine is a way of looking at the day to day  world that will provide us with amusement, insight and understanding. Most of all, the Wakefield Doctrine is good for:

  • getting your noisy boyfriend to not shout when you are standing in a slow line
  • convincing your girlfriend that while purple really is ‘her’ hair color, that just maybe, for her job interview she might want to go natural
  • realizing that even though your boss always finds mistakes that you have made, that you know that you can do the job better than anyone
  • convincing your husband that, while it is important to research all major purchases, perhaps taking 6 weeks to decide on lawnmower brands is a bit much
The Wakefield Doctrine is predicated on the idea that we all live our lives in what can best be called individual worldviews (a less threatening word for personal reality) and that all people are born with the potential to live in one of three distinctive worldviews:
  1. the ‘world’ of the Outsider, where there is a gap, a critical difference between us and the rest of the world, especially the people, those who exist in this worldview, we call clarks
  2. the reality of the Predator, this world is characterized by the predator-prey existence that we see in nature, those who grow up and develop in this worldview are designated as having the scottian personality type
  3. the world of connectedness, the world of belonging to the group, sometimes referred to as the herd this person, referred to as a roger develops a personality type that is predicated on the world being a quantifiable place that is subject to discernible Rules
At an early age we pick one of these three and that becomes our personal reality. We call this the predominant type. And a big difference between the Doctrine and ‘mainstream personality systems’ is that we look at the reality first and the personality type second. Makes much more sense.
Finally, while we all live our lives in one (of three) characteristic worldviews, we never lose the capacity to see the world as the ‘other two’ do. In fact,  in some people, one of the other two ‘aspects’ is developed to the point that it influences the choices and actions of that person. For example, I am a clark because my reality, the world in which I grew up and developed my ‘personality’ is that of the Outsider. I also have a highly developed secondary aspect, that of the worldview that we call a scott. That shows in some instances and, in a sense, it accounts for some of my ‘personality’ that is not strictly the result of living on the fringe.  However, that does not mean that everyone develops their ‘other two’ aspects to any degree, some people are pretty much all of the type of their predominant worldview, showing no signs of the other two.  According to the Wakefield Doctrine, all people relate to the world consistent with the world being one of the three: clarks, scotts and rogers. We know all the stuff we do about people simply because we are able to see the world as they see it.
Hey! you people who are ‘on the edge’ of writing your first Comment? Here is your opening! I want…no, I need you to add to the list above (of the things the Doctrine is good for)… I know you got something. Come on! S. and H, I see you out there. and MJ and D and the rest of you scamps5

1) as the kids2 would say

2) by kids we mean people who are:

  • not as old as us3
  • confident enough to use whatever slang word they think is appropriate ( clarks )
  • sure enough of themselves to know that they are ‘tuned in’ to the ‘young people’ and can talk to them like they want ( rogers )
  • just don’t care what words they use, they will capture your attention no matter it they have to set their own hair on fire ( scott )

3) which is most everybody it seems, we can say that ’cause this is the internet4

4) which being a virtual world, allows us to pretend that we can appear to be anything to anyone simply because we are not likely to run into them at the Dentist’s office or the health and supplement section of  the grocery store

5) we are a little weird about privacy here, most of us use a damn pen name (French, ‘Nom de Bic‘ ) so you can sign in however the hell you want.

the Wakefield Doctrine: Today some common, everyday situations. If you would be so kind as to tell us how *you* would act

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

We all know that clarks live in the personal reality that is best characterized as the world of ‘the Outsider’ and (that) scotts  are the personality type that they are because they roam the world as Predators and rogers, they totally demonstrate how an individual’s personality develops when in a reality in which there are Rules and all things are ultimately quantifiable. But what else do we really know? While we do have a good idea of what the ‘world looks like’ to each of the three personality types, we need to define, to a much greater level of detail, the three worldviews that are the basis of the Wakefield Doctrine.

Why? Because the more you know about the world that the ‘other person’ is experiencing, the greater your understanding of their behavior. The greater your understanding of their behavior, the more likely that you will correctly anticipate and predict (their) future behavior. And finally, (and we have been under-stating this reason), the more we understand the nature of the worldview of ‘the other two’ personality types, the better our chances of developing the strengths that they have that we lack in our own pre-dominant personality type.

Clear? Well, if not then don’t fret. It will either become clear as you read these Posts and such, or it will not. If none of this Wakefield Doctrine stuff makes any sense then it will not be very interesting to you. That is as it should be, this is not for everyone. For those of you who do find this interesting, we say: Read, learn, have fun.

Now on with the work!
For your consideration. We are presenting the following situations and offering possible ways to respond. Each of the possible course of actions are appropriate to one or more of the three worldviews.

A) You are sitting in a movie theatre with your date. Your date really, really wanted to see this movie and you really, really didn’t like what you heard the movie was going to be about. But, (and this is critical), this is your 3rd Date! Your date was very excited and happy with how thoughtful you were to suggest going to this movie  and… it is abundantly clear that your date will be very… grateful! Fine. You and your date are sitting there and it is the middle of the movie and three people (coming in late) seat themselves 2 rows behind you, and it starts. The giggling and the laughing and the running commentary… finally one of the them gets a call on their cell phone! Throughout this, your date is being stoic and has made it clear they don’t like the idea of making a scene, but for you,  the ‘perfect third date’ is being ruined!!
You:

  • suggest to your date that you wouldn’t mind leaving and coming back another time, when maybe there won’t be such annoying audience members
  • tell your date that you are going to ‘find a manager and let them know how you feel’
  • jump up on your seat, turning towards the three ‘noise makers’ and say in a loud, clear voice, “Shut the fuck up right now or I will kill all three of you”
  • call the movie theatre on your own cell phone and ask to speak to the Head Usher and proceed to complain in a quiet voice
  • look at your date and ask if they can do anything about the rude people, you are really not enjoying the movie

B) You are being told that the dog you have had for 8 years, (since she was a puppy), has an incurable and fatal illness by the doctors at the very exclusive veterinary hospital. They tell you there is nothing to be done and (gently) hint at euthanasia…right there and then
You:

  • immediately accede to the doctors suggestion that the merciful thing to do is to put your dog to sleep and ask if they would take care of everything
  • ask for a complete list of options ranging from the most practical to the least practical
  • stop listening politely and focus on your dog, who even though ill, remains as alert and intelligent as ever and clearly is paying close attention to everything being said in the room
  • stay calm and upbeat and thank the doctors and decide to get your dog home.  While checking out of the animal hospital, you ask for some high potency dog food, ignoring the looks from the people behind the counter (who are totally aware of the prognosis for your dog) and insist that 6 cans will do (this you are clearly saying for the benefit of your dog, who in turn, has a look of patient tolerance on her face, as if indulging you in your antics)
  • cry and create a scene loudly enough to cause the people in the waiting room sitting with their pets, to avert their collective gazes

C) You are working for a company that is subcontracting for a very large corporation. You enjoy your job because it allows you to interact with a lot of people in the course of your work day. You have one immediate superior (your Supervisor) and you have been then longer than anyone else on the staff, Supervisor included. One day you become aware of ‘a change’ at the workplace, nothing you can put your finger on, but some of your co-workers appear to be un-easy. Needless to say, the rumor mill cranks up. As there are only one or two rogers on the staff (the rest are clarks) you listen to the stories, but hold your own counsel. Out of the blue, your Supervisor calls you into the office and confides in you that they are considering leaving the company. This is a total shock and not pleasant news, as you had developed a cordial relationship with them, all the more valuable as the turn-over rate in your industry is very high. In any event, while you are still recovering from the shock of the news, your Supervisor says, “Hey, I think you are very good at your work, there is no one who knows the operation better, if I do leave I plan on recommending you for my position”
You:

  • say nothing, just continue to listen to your Supervisor, trying to learn as much as possible about the reason for this change…without asking any questions
  • suggest to your Supervisor that maybe they should re-consider and try to find a way to stay in the position
  • ask them for a timetable for the decision and promise to not tell anyone else
  • upon getting to the lunchroom, you tell the first person you see that you have heard some astounding news about the company but you can’t tell anyone
That will be enough for today.
Tell us what you think of the choices of actions, we want to get a sense of which are clarklike and which is the way a scott would act and how the rogers would react. This will tell us a great deal about their respective worldviews.
Thank you. Here is some dino-rock for your relaxation purposes.

fun and educational! the Wakefield Doctrine ‘it’s as useful as you want it to be and as much fun as you can stand!’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

First a little explanation of the Title of today’s Post.
As is often stated in these Pages, the Wakefield Doctrine is fun. It is fun to learn about, it is fun to hold up ‘the lens’ of the Doctrine and see who, in your life is one of these clarks (try a mirror,  lol) or a scott (kind of easy to spot think: hyperactive puppy or maybe a parakeet that gets loose in the house!) or even these rogers (they are the majority of the population? that feels a little….foreboding).
The ‘Doctrine is especially fun when you encounter a person in a situation and are able to tell them (or one of their friends) all sorts of stuff you should have no way of knowing! If you are the kind of person who enjoys people watching, then the Wakefield Doctrine is a total ‘must have’.

In any event, if you ‘get the Doctrine’, you will see the fun to be had nearly right away. Fair warning, though! If you understand the basic principle, that we all live in one of three characteristic realities and you if you can infer which of the three worldviews a person is living in, then you can see them as the clark or the scott or the roger. The thing of it is, if you can do this thing, you might have a little trouble not seeing them that way.  Allow me to re-phrase that: once you learn to identify the clarks and the scotts and the rogers in your world, you will always see them as clarks and scotts and rogers!  Worse than that, even if you don’t read another Post or learn even one more characteristic of the three personality types, you will still see  them behave as clarklike or scottian or rogerian!

Which leads us to the second part of the Post today.

The Wakefield Doctrine is a very useful tool that will allow you to:

  • drop bad habits,
  • improve your love life,
  • boost your earnings at work and
  • establish a harmonious and cooperative spirit to the life you share with your family.

Yep, all that and a bunch of stuff we aren’t even gonna bother with telling you! ( Alright, just a hint… the ‘cover photo’ on today’s Post? it is courtesy of the Wakefield Doctrine! that is correct! I got off the aeroplane and took a photo of the Terminal building in ‘the Conch Republic’, aka Key West International Airport, walked out of the building (totally cool airport!) went to my rental car…drove south and claimed the Southern Hemisphere* then proceeded to drive north at irresponsible and fun speeds to Ft Lauderdale and got on a plane and flew home. …all because of, and a direct result of, the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine.

Sound intriguing? Curious about how we can make such extravagant claims? It’s all here, in this here blog here.
But! But… if you  are a little too…busy or lazy or distracted or consumed by things that do not permit you the luxury of trying something new (we’re talking to you clarks out there!) then go ask one of the DownSprings!  Click over and see if DS#1 will tell you something that makes this believable, or try AKH, she will answer your questions… or Molly, she is very organised and the answer will simply make sense. Hell, if you have the nerve, go ask the Progenitor roger.

You owe it to yourself, if you have stayed with this Post this far, to see if you can get the answer that you think you need answered.

Hey! clarks  that’s right, you! Don’t waste time thinking about the comparison between the system you have and the Doctrine, don’t spend even a second trying to come up with some fucked up Pepsi Challenge… we are not in competition. Just ask.

* by Right of Hat, of course!

‘it was a pretty good night’* Non Sequitur Sunday at the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Good Drive, interesting insights a couple of lines of enquiry that should have been apparent…were not, but are now!

I spend an inordinate amount of time in my car and have made various attempts to find a way of using my driving time more productively. I have tried audio recorders and video recorders.** Good ideas, but I still had to sit and listen to myself talk and transcribe the whole thing. Useful as a reminder of a certain idea or explanation, but not very time-saving.

Then it occurred to me that maybe my ‘bright-but-not-brilliant’ phone might have ‘an app’ that would translate my spoken words into typed words. Well I was at the office yesterday, but there were no rogers around, so I thought, what the hell! and I asked a scott (one with a strong secondary clark aspect) and she suggested the email function (on my underachiever-but-will-ace-the-exam phone) and there it was! A little microphone icon and when I spoke, it typed! not only that but I could email it to myself!
Here is what I dictated:

Notes from this Saturday night drive September 15th 2012 in attendance hey KH NDS number 1 really young is the drive 5 P A I k age was in person how did the estimate loop topics map this will be interesting topics for the uh for the driver ya chase by the cops gun battle and we talked about secondary aspects best breakfast good read that starts with anyway we talked about mother talked about the Wakefield RI Cranbrook with a 3 scenarios and the then try the spirit gram in the yellow we talked about of Wakefield the video 3 scenarios in the book guys date anger Management and depression um it was then we mostly talked about hey how’s the song welcome to the Wakefield I print what area Clark Scott and Rogers
Sent from my HTC smartphone on the Now Network from Sprint!

…All mimsy were ye borogoves!

ha
ha

Yeah, I know old joke. Still fun to see it in print.

And speaking of the fun of ‘seeing it in print’ lets remind Readers:

  • clarks are the personality type that is representative of the appropriate behavior for a person living as ‘the outsider’; if you are a clark the following statement is obvious:  “I am here and the world is out there”
  • scotts are the personality type that develop in the world of the predator, ‘they act therefore they are’,  a scott alone in a room, isn’t;  you want something done meticulously? ask a roger, you want something impossible done? ask a clark if you want something real bad, but you don’t know if you should?…ask a scott
  • rogers are the world, they are society they are the Judges at Salem,at Nuremberg, the Atlantic City, at American Idol; rogers don’t create the Standards but they live them, rogers build the machines that always work and the societies that strangle innovation, rogers are the victims of their own creations, all while trying to find a ‘stand-in’
  • but we, you and the person that you are thinking about telling this about are mostly one of these three and partly the other two.
The Wakefield Doctrine can be: fun (if you are a clark with a scottian friend), productive (if you are a clark with a rogerian friend) and unique (if you are a clark trying to reconcile this system with your own system of understanding the world ‘out there’) lol

I am including this youtube clip for the clarks out there… you will know why  (for the handful of rogers and scotts who might wonder, it has to do with how Hendrix plays nearly the entire solo from the 12th fret position.)

Buzz Words, Talking Points and Hot Topics: the Wakefield Doctrine the weekend cometh!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Hi! New here? Glad to have you visit! Lots of fun facts, interesting insights and one totally unique personality theory here! There’s just one little thing…today’s topic?  Well, we’re thinking that this might not exactly be the best way to be introduced to the Wakefield Doctrine. Not on your very first exposure to the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers, at any rate.
If I might make a suggestion?
Either go back to the landing page (www.wakefielddoctrine.com ) or, if you really feel like reading a Post, how about this: “bullet points and block quotes…” You will enjoy it, much more! …or write us a Comment…or get mad and continue on to your original destination, www.bicycles-men-and-logos.com or www.stiletto-persuaders.com. Or stay, cause now that you have been personally challenged with our little bit of advice, you are going to get through this come hell or high-water….clark1

Have been making the rounds,  talking to everyone2 and the acceleration of the ‘understanding of the Wakefield Doctrine‘ is really impressive…and daunting. By ‘understanding of the Wakefield Doctrine‘ I don’t mean the core principles, e.g. there are three characteristic worldviews (‘personal realities’) and what people call a personality type is merely the normal, appropriate response to the world as it is being perceived, I mean more expanding our understanding of what we mean when we say, “in the world of a clark, a banana is rarely ever just a banana, at least the first time” or ” I scream, therefore I am“.  The goal is that the more we learn about the characteristics of the three worldviews, the better we are able to understand the people in our lives. …when they are acting like complete assholes or are simply being exceptionally obsequious!

The current ‘buzz words’?

referential authority

The hottest of ‘hot topics’?

(influence of ) secondary aspect on coping skills

Hey! Lets try something different today. I am going to stop writing at this point. You read and if you feel like adding to the above topic bullet points, write in…if not, then I may return later in the day and put up something racy, who knows

1)  and we know it’s you… most of the people coming here and ‘getting’ the Doctrine have been clarks..although we are seeing that change lately…whatever

2) meaning DownSprings and Friends of the Doctrine, of course
