Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
Went to a wake yesterday.
Wakes (for certain demographic) motto: Wakes and funerals are the backyard birthday parties for those of us who live long enough.)
New Readers: No, that is not morbid (unless you’re young). Of course, the balm for the assault of this knowledge is way, way worth enduring the sting of confronting mortality.
But that wasn’t the take-away.
clarks (are/am/is)
they say clarks are born old. by extension, if there are three Ages of Man/Woman, then, by irrefutable logic:
- clarks are old
- scotts are young
- rogers are middle-aged
ok, this is getting into something more appropriate to the Wakefield Doctrine AP curricula.
But, back to the wake…. we encountered a scottian female. And it, (the encounter, not necessarily the scottian female) brought home the interesting quality natural to clark–scott relationships/interactions.
to make the simplest of sense of this, lets review: scotts are Predators and rogers are Herd Members, which in the context of the scottian experience makes them Prey. Fine. Both are good with that arrangement. (No, seriously, they are.) And yes, that means rogers are ok with being the designated food group for scotts. But that’s way beyond the scope of this 7:25 am post. Take our word for it. Or, better yet, remind us next week to go into detail. For now, accept the premise. And the funny thing is, this Predator/Prey is only the setup for our quick description of a clark–scott relationship.
So… we account for scott–roger interactions (Yum!! lol). scott–scott is pretty straightforward: ranking (within the pack). When scotts interact they fight almost to the death (figuratively, thank god) and then go on about their way. Note: crowded, confined social setting, a party or a convention or…a wake! lol two scotts encounter (this is in the general, hushed-conversation, hey-haven’t-seen-you-in… part of the room)… ranking established and the dominant scott gets first pick of hunting grounds. (booyah)
…to our topic:
clark encounters a scott. conflict. clark will avoid conflict, but will not offer themselves as Prey. clarks with scotts… think porcupine… get along, joke and such, then (on a frequency schedule known only to the clark, if at all) the scott pushes too hard (the dominance thing, don’cha know) and the clark does something off the scale in counter aggression. porcupine(ish) the scott, more often than not jumps back (like a puppy meeting their first frog in the grass in the backyard) and with a wag of the tail is totally amused and continues to play.
long post short: the clark will always do something when establishing a relationship with a scott that makes it clear that they, (the clark) are neither Prey nor another scott

I’ve seen the puppy jump away from the frog reaction, good comparison.
thankee Ms M
Of course you’ve got to act defensive. There are always people searching for easy meals.
