Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
Had a most excellent call-in this weekend. On the call: Denise (alternate host, co-anchor) roger (alternating weeks participant) and Cynthia! (Friend of the Doctrine and most excellent example of a clark with a significant-secondary scottian aspect and a pretty much fairly-well-developed tertiary rogerian aspect.
You oughta call in some Saturday. It’s a lot like these posts (try) to be: all about how the Wakefield Doctrine manifests in the lives of ‘real’ people.
Well, as real as clarks ever get. (lol We kid clarks. …But were actually serious.)
Interesting points (in the call-in): got into a ‘How was your last experience with going to school. The anecdotes were both enjoyable to hear and personally relatable.
(ed. was going to cite some portions of the conversation, the better to jump-start this Monday post. but, you know. clarklike predominant worldview here. oh well. you would have been fascinated, captivated and totally, “What was that telephone number again?!?!” )
ok, feeling guilty. not much body to this post.
that’s why god invented….RePosts!!
someone out there give us a date between July 2009 and, say, July 2020… we promise to
Hey!! wait!
just remembered an exchange (from the call-in)!!
We were asking Cynthia about her experiences as a clark in college, going as a student to the school there… and then we jumped off-topic (clarks. remember?*)
In any event, a thought pulled itself through the not-dusty-even-though-undisturbed-the-attic stacks of light-brown cardboard boxes and we said to the gathered:
“Man, if only there was a way to go out into the world and, somehow, get into all the elementary school and find the young clarks (about to fall prey to their own naive and not-so-realistic desire to be a part of and offer themselves up for membership in a Herd or a Pack without condition only the hope of acceptance). we could hand them a note: ‘It’s not you, it’s them‘. ”
And, then in true Saturday matinee style, the clarks would look around and, maybe, see the door to the classroom shutting without a person in sight…’cept a trailing-off assurance: ‘The Wakefield Doctrine is for you, not them”
Damn! We’d pay to see that there movie.
* well, yes with one roger

It was a fun! Individual crib notes for the “baby” clarks. (damn, surely elementary school life would have gone a might smoother and, I’d have had less fake “sick days” in first grade, lol)
That is the true value of the Doctrine – learning the “whys” of another’s behavior (knowing how they relate themselves to the world around them) goes a long way in reducing the stress. Takes some of the pressure off.
Aha! Never knew that was Fiona the first time I watched Pleasantville. Excellent movie, excellent song.
School, love the learning, tolerate the people.
lol
I was more interested in the store front. Looks like original architecture built to last forever.
