‘Lessons of Life’ the Wakefield Doctrine ‘it’s movie clip Thursday!’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

(thanks out to zoe and Denise, Stephanie and Jean for the secret mental highway roadblocks that lead me overslept mind to the idea of a advice on life through movie clips)

Slacker:

Planet of the Apes:

Little Shop of Horrors

Dogma

…you’re probably wondering, “…ok, fun clips and all, but you did say something about ‘Life Advice’, didn’t you?”

yes, yes I did! But the thing about the Wakefield Doctrine, (the thing that, until I totally ramp up my rogerian aspect, will prevent this personality theory from getting too widespread), is that our little Doctrine is not ‘an Answer’ it’s a tool. We might have even gotten all ‘cutsy aphoristic’ and said, ‘the Doctrine is not an Answer, it’s a Question‘….but that would be too easy and, in truth, not accurate. The Doctrine is neither a Question nor an Answer, it’s a perspective. The Wakefield Doctrine offers, to those with the kind of intellect secure enough in itself to play with odd ideas and enjoys imagining the things that simply are not reality, an insight into the behavior of people.

the basic perspective is simply that we all grow up and develop mentally, socially, physically and spiritually in a world in which we are:

  1. the Outsider. these are clarks who are outside of everything and spend their lives trying to learn their way back in, convinced that the answer is in their minds and that until such time as they belong, they must avoid being scrutinized
  2. the Predator. the scotts who live life to the fullest today, were it not for their clarklike and rogerian aspects, (we all have all three), they would be totally happy all the time, embracing (and eating and loving) what is, never concerned with what is not, scotts see the light within and try to confront it, but (they) are as trapped in their limitations as clarks are…forever trying to ‘take’ what is within themselves already
  3. the Herd Member, rogers live in a world where the Answer is available and if it is not, then the Question is irrelevant there is a Right Way and everyone else’s way… the roger is best equipped to deal with their own limitations

there ya go!

Anyone have any clips send ’em on in! (try to include the Life Advice that the clip contains….lol)

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

written, directed produced and (starring in the opening scene) by the total clark, Richard Linklater!

  3. Clark: have you seen “her” yet? You will freak!

  4. zoe says:

I am not a huge movie fan unless its B movies then for some reason Im in! But i have to say Dogma and Slackers… great movies… actually all of em are… life lessons? Plenty to be had I suppose… I gotta go see Dogma again… my favorite I think….

    • ADORE MOVIES HERE and love to discuss them. Good thing I have a couple of kids who do too and two nephews (one on Jim’s side, and one who is actually my cousin’s son) who are film makers! And I knew about the original little shop of horrors, you bet :)

yeah agree (with the fun of movies)… I tend to watch a fairly small number of movies a very large number of times Little Shop of Horrors I remember stumbling across on a late night movie show back in late 60s early 70s. and like most great songs or books or movies, I totally knew it was something special from the opening lines. Richard Linklater is like that, but with the added dimension of being such a clark, (amazed at how he does movies that are virtually all dialogue and still capture the audience, especially the Before Sunrise series, hell two characters one scene how cool is that?)

        • dear clark, I read up on Linklater after this comment of yours and the coolest thing which I never knew–but you probably did–was that he said he was inspired to make movies by seeing the movie Raging Bull !!!! I thought that was so fascinating, especially as his style reminded me a bit of some of Altman’s movies. However they were never mentioned!
The indie nineties film makers are the ones I know the least about because I had children through 1994 and went on to discover that two of the three I had in the 90s had autism and I threw myself into learning about autism and working on helping them. I think I missed every film and TV show and most of the nineties music, too. jeh

…the nineties were the best of times for movies… Tarentino, Linkletter and Rodrigues all incredible for the ‘write, direct, produce’ kind of movies that were such a relief from the horribly manipulative and over-blown movies from the Spielberg Lucas school of movies (not a fan… lol) speaking of a fan of and Raging Bull!!

            (from ‘Waiting for Guffman’)

            • Waiting for Guffman!!! LOVE! …the one good thing was that my older sons were into the 90’s movies so I was able to get some great side knowledge even though I was cut off at the time for a while–for example, my oldest loved Tarantino. He loved reservoir dogs. I loved pulp fiction and the kill bills. However I am less educated than you are concerning the decade in general, and I find it really annoying because I like to know everything about everything!!! xox me
