Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
(somehow we are already a month into this bloghop! Given life by Considerer* this blog hop has become a weekend-long conversation** on the topic of Gratitude and appreciation of the day to day life we all experience).
There are, of course, co-hosts** who, with their contributions, help create the really unique thing about this here blog here… Ten Things of Thankful has become (over the few weeks we have been doing this), a conversation. A lot of bloggers strive to engage their Readers, trying for a dialogue, however, few succeed. This blog is clearly showing signs of being the exception. Personally, I had my doubts about trying for a 2 day ‘posting period’…thinking that the initial influx of Posts would wane at the end of Saturday, leaving this blog hop to languish on Sunday. I am pleased to be wrong! (Item #1: on the Secret list of 10 Things Thankful for June 29-30, ‘happy to have been wrong’), and paradoxically, it was the ‘extra time’ made available to people to submit their Posts that created the foundation for a conversation to come into life on these pages. (damn! there’s my hook! er my thesis.. Item#2: ‘finding a theme to tie the words together in order to write this Post’). In addition, Considerer being over in the UK somewhere, she starts ‘the ball rolling’ at midnight local time which has it up and running when I get to it, in the morning (my local time for me being EDT). Deliberate or not, running the idea of a blog hop running for the entire weekend is the stroke of genius that will so make this blog hop the place to be!.
The other thing unusual about how this blog hop is developing, once again courtesy of our hostini prime, is the idea of multiple Posts… as in, if you get an idea for a Post after reading the contributions of the others, you have the time (and audience) if you want to submit another Post on Sunday!) I am really grateful for that (cha ching! Item #3: ‘the appreciation of C0nsiderer’s having the whatever to insist on a 2 day blog hop!’).
In any event, if you are reading this for the first time, be sure to visit all the other Posts!! thank god Considerer has some very skilled and talented writer-friends. (…wait for it!….. Item#4: ‘the company that I am keeping here as a co-host). You will see not only a very wide variety of styles… but, (the) viewpoints and insights available here adds up to something pretty damn exceptional. ( Item#5: ‘the variety of writings here in the 10 Thanks’. (Kind of a mulligan but I’ll be glad to take it.!)) …. (yes, yes I will claim that as Item #6: ‘being allowed to enjoy writing this Post in whatever weird-ass way I seem to find amusing’).
In all seriousness, I am grateful for having the friends that I have as a result of my efforts at writing my own blog, the Wakefield Doctrine. It may sound somewhat selfish, but I get a direct benefit from my participation in the Then Things Thankful… I slowly improve my writing, mostly by reading and trying to understand how you people (collectively) manage to convey your ideas, thoughts and most importantly, (to me), the emotions you have, as you share the Ten Things in your blog Posts. I will say, without fear of contradiction, I get something every time I participate here. I may not always see it or be able to express it, but I am beginning to feel it. ( Items # 7,8,9)
Thanks Considerer!
(…lol am I really the kind of person that would leave that hanging, just for ‘effect’?)
* not her real name, but she is the Author of the excellent blog Considerings hence the name
** hostesseses…. who, by their participation give substance to the idea underlying this bloghop
*** mulligan: In golf, a mulligan is a stroke that is replayed from the spot of the previous stroke without penalty, due to an errant shot made on the previous stroke. The result, as the hole is played and scored, is as if the first errant shot had never been made.
I for one am pleased as punch with all that you bring to the hop. Each of my wonderful co-hosts has something unique to offer and, Y-Chromosome notwithstanding*, your take on the weekend and the thankfulness you find is always valued.
I also like that you DO play with how you’re going to present it each week. Like it or not, you’re something of an inspiration and help me to think laterally about how I might arrange mine.
*I would not be without it – I know it’s an ‘x-heavy’ hop so this factor alone is worth several Awesome Points
P.S. I am excited to announce that my DocTee arrived this morning. I claimed my chic front balcony for the Wakefield Doctrine – where shall I send my pic?
@Considerer
…the e-mail address that you’ve been using to send the link code would be best for your photo.
Wait…a minute! We really should get back to doing shirtposts*. We used to do this for the Wakefield Doctrine hats “for your damn head”. I totally need to get back to doing this thing.
So, with the photo send me something of a imagino-biographical-profile-really-this-is-what-I’m-like information…nature. We’ll do a profile post.
*not a real word
This hop really is encouraging conversation. Normally, if I read a comment on someone else’s blog that makes me laugh or want to say something, I don’t comment on it. I don’t know if the blog writer will think it is odd or rude. However, with this Thankful hop, it’s exactly what we’re supposed to do. I’m glad we all feel comfortable talking to each other on other people’s sites.
Thank you so much for the shirt. Shall I follow the same instructions you gave our Hostess with the Mostess?
Still so glad you chose to be a co-host compadre.
@Christine
I would like that. Those of us in the niche-blog biz appreiciate the value a Post topic.
(now my marketing people* are shreiking at me, ‘no!! clark!! 2 interesting (and surely very sexy…) women-people are graciously offering to provide you with a near-pre-written Posts! …2 near-written Posts. and you are thinking of showing them examples of what you have done in the past?!?! stop it or we resign.)

* don’t really have marketing people… but I do know a scott who can sell oxygen to an anerobic life form
Always love discussion. I always appreciate if people help me getting a different view on things. I know that I sometimes do post on controversial issues, and my opinion on them, and while I’m glad if people comment that they agree (just so I know I’m not a total weirdo and odd-kid), I am happy if people help me to broaden my horizon by adding there differing views. Thanks for bringing this blog hop up!
@Stephanie
…well! have no fear about people thinking you’re a weirdo…lol (we kinda have that franchise totally locked up, for all intents and purposes…
you know the old joke, with the punchline built on the phrase, ‘sure, but compared to you…’
lol
Very cool! I have a bit of the writer’s block going on, LOL….or sort of the I’m-going-to-be-chained-to-a-computer-for-the-next-year-of-my-life-nonstop–
LOL
In any case, awesome write up.
As a side note, there’s a chance I won’t be able to call in tonight – husby said it might be a “date night” LOL.
did you say you’re doing a brunch thingie?
@Cyndi
call-in on the phone…date night with husband, call-in standing on the porch…date night (possibly one of a rare opportunity in the coming months) with life mate, call-….. what to do, what to do….
lol
yes, the Brunch thing is scheduled for 9:00 am EDT it will be through the google+ hangout app … I will check the facebook at the dame time, if I see your light on, I’ll give you a ring…
we definitely will need to talk before the next phase starts!!! (visual: one of those clean rooms used to build interplanetary probes, “damnit man! she’s only going back to college to finish a degree, if you ask here to take notes on the natives and apply the Doctrine in the social environment.., it will be too much!! for her!!”)
Done deal, Clark :)
Stephanie – I feel the same way, though depending on the controversy and the tenor of the comments I may or may not chip in with my five eggs…I do love a good comm box discussion though :)
@Considerer
did you just say, ‘chip in with my five eggs’ ah ha!! they do not speak English in England, do they? I knew it!! lol
assuming that this is an idiom, I totally need to hear the etymology of this rather cool, and evocative sentence that you made!
We absolutely do speak English in England, we just don’t speak American (a fact Noah Webster, amongst others, would be keen to point out)
‘Chip in’ is a vaguely politer way of saying ‘Butt in’
And as for the etymology of ‘five eggs’, here, sir, according to Yahoo, is the answer
“A Glossary of Tudor and Stuart Words
By Walter William Skeat, Anthony Lawson Mayhew
pages 148 and 128
five eggs : in phr. to come in with one’s. five eggs,
to break in or interrupt fussily with an idle story ;
‘ Persones coming in with their five egges,
how that Sylla had geuen ouer his office ‘,
Udall, tr. of Erasmus’s Apoph. , p. 272 ;
‘ Another commeth in with his fiue egges ‘,
Robinson, tr. More’s Utopia (ed. Arber, p. 56).
The orig. phrase had reference to the offering
of five eggs for a penny, which was a trivial offer,
and not very advantageous to the purchaser
in the sixteenth century ; see eggs (2).
eggs : phr. to lake eggs for money, to accept
an offer which one would rather refuse.
Winter’s Tale, i. 2. 161. (Fully explained
by me in Phil. Soc. Trans., 1903, p. 146).
Farmers’ daughters would go to market, taking with
them a basket of eggs. If one bought something worth
(suppose) 3s. 4iJ., she would pay the 3s. and say
‘ will you take eggs for money ? ‘ If the shopman
weakly consented, he received the value of the 4iZ.

a penny. But the strong-minded shopman would refuse.
Eggs were even used to pay interest for money.
Thus Rowley has : ‘ By Easter next you should have
the principal, and eggs for the use [interest],
indeed, sir. Bloodhound. Oh rogue, rogue,
I shall have eggs for my money ! I must hang myself,
A Match at Midnight, v. 1. “
@Considerer
(in case any new and/or future Readers wonder how you got to be a DownSpring so quickly!)lol
I simply love to read your writing and I adore (yes, I said adore) the way you incorporated your thankful list into a succinct writing and not a “list” like the rest of us. I’m certain that you’re brilliant! :)
@Mrs Always Random
why, thank you… I will admit to being not as in-touch with (that part of myself) that can express the gratitude that I know is within… I will lay all credit, in this case, at the feel of our intrepid leaderess Considerer and Christine and all the others here, as they are the ones that provide me ‘cover’ for my efforts to learn to do what they all seem to do so naturally.
Zoinks! A shirt “for your damn back” * post? First off, I shall take a better photo with a much better background! Then I’ll get to the bio thing. (If you actually want it and weren’t being polite. It sorta seems like I jumped in and told you if Considerer is writing a post, I should, too. I most certainly didn’t mean it that way. Just didn’t know what to do with the photo.)
*shouldn’t have been quotes, as I’ve never heard anyone say that, just went along with your hat thing. (See, I’m presuming all over the place.)
@christine
well, I trust you read the Posts I put the links in the Comments to…and if after reading them and being able to judge both my intentions and skill (such as it is) and you would put yourself in the Doctrine’s literary hands, so to speak, I would be honored.
I really loved the ‘slogan’ or whatever it was… whenever we mentioned the hat, it was always followed by ‘for your damn head’! lol as a matter of fact, if you really want to hear how that is intended… call the call-in number 218-339-0422 and listen to the automated message… it is worth the call (you won’t need the access number since it won’t be ‘live’ but I totally how the welcome message (which I typed into a form) came out sounding.
I love how this hop has allowed for extended conversations as well and think it’s brilliant to have it up all weekend. Weekends tend to be slower blog traffic days anyway, so that we can laze around in our pajamas and visit the participants in a leisurely fashion is perfect for me. So much more relaxed and real. I’m grateful to have found friends through blogging but feel quite guilty today that my horrid teeth nightmare ruined your morning. It was just a dream, dude. As in NOT REAL!!! Teeth are way stronger than clippers anyway. Sorry. Truly. Mwah.
@Kristi
totally agree with the weekend thing… get to come back and make comments (as they occur to me) and Considerer is so the genius
Re: Item #6 Is there any other way to write than to do so in a weird-ass manner? It’s the only way I know….
@Dyanne
thank you! I totally agree and (fortunately) most people what stay around this here blog here for more than 5 minutes, don’t seem to object; to everyone else, I would say, ‘when you clicked into this site, did you see a sign that said “English and Composition ‘A’ Students Only!” ?*
* no, you didn’t that because…**
** thanks to Quentin Tarantino and Pulp Fiction for the borrowed set up
It seems I am attempting to keep the hop going well over it’s desired optimal time allowance. I feel that is okay, because thankfulness is… you know… timeless. Truly. It is a good thing I’m not a co-host, though. Sense of time is way off in my world compared to the rest.
I love how you write up your thankfulness posts! They are so fun and original. Nothing wrong with lists, but I look forward to seeing how creative you get.
I’m glad this hop has encouraged a lot of conversation between participants and visitors. What fun would the Blogosphere be if no one rambled back?
Jak at
@Jak
thanks. these are among the most difficult of (the 3 or 4) hops I have chosen to participate in… expression of emotion (for what is gratitude, if not emotion without a target?) is totally difficult for me, it goes well with the type of ‘creativity’ you speak up which is, of course impossible! lol (Meaning that, by definition, I have no idea what (or perhaps it is better to say, how I will write any given Post). Fun… a fuckin barrel of laugh. lol
