Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Six Years.

1) Kristi for hosting

2) Josie for providing a stable declension*

3) Lizzi Lewis: 4 kree8ting this thing.1

4) Scroll wheels***

5) Co-hostinae (see triple asteroid at bottom… the original Doctrine TToT post). It includes the list of the first hosts. Others have stepped up over the years and, to a (wo)man, all have done yeoman’s work providing an environment both nurturing and challenging, in the creative sense of the word.

6) Virtual people on Vacation. There was a seaside vacation weekend where virtual people gathered in the ‘real’ world. (I kinda gravitate towards the movie trope where, while we all believe we met in Ocean City, staying in motels, hotels and B&Bs, maybe to the rest of the people in the world, doors were mysteriously opening and closing, dogs were heard to bark in bed ‘n breakfast inns and laughter was heard at all hours from empty motel rooms.) But there we were: zoe, val, Denise, Sara, Kristi and others (hey, if I missed anyone…. trope, remember?)

7) Locked away in some achronologic closet are the early posts of Lizzi when she sported the sobriquet, ‘Considerer’. I met her through Kristi Campbell’s Finish the Sentence Friday bloghop. Given the insights afforded by everyone’s favorite personality theory, I knew Lizzi from the (her) first Comment that I read. I replied. I made friends with her guard dog.2 In any event, the thing was, I was early enough in L’s blogging to see her first grat posts. She’d been convinced that it would be good for her to write a post listing the things for which she was grateful. Which she did. For weeks, into months.

By herself.

(Hard to imagine, but at the time, Lizzi’s blog would get one, maybe two comments every couple of posts. She was very much on her own.)

She continued writing her gratitude posts.

That is how you create a bloghop that has the power to last six years.

8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE.  Hey, we know you’re out there. Just stopping by for the celebration, out of curiosity etc? This thing we do here is for real. Send in your Grat Item (along with preferred attribution) and we’ll totally post it here at Number 8. We got plenty of room. (I mean, have you seen this post? It’s, like. all over the place.)

9) Phyllis and Una

10) Secret Rule 1.3

*something of a rogerian expression, a malapropism for the process of handing down a traditional activity, ‘sophomore successor’ might be more scientific, but admittedly weird. Lets stick with declension.

1. You want to know how a bloghop that can last Six Years is created?  Go to Grat Item #7

2. Lizzi was already friends with Christine at the time I replied (in full-on clarklike patois) to Lizzi’s Comment at the FTSF post. I swear my index finger hadn’t cleared the return key after submitting my comment when I got a reply …from Christine. ‘Hello. You’re new around here. Lizzi and I are good friends. State your intentions.’ I smiled at my monitor. Lizzi has a scottian** friend. I continued to smile and held out my hand…slowly. She turned out to be a lot of fun and I was recognized as being non-creepy. Where was I? oh yeah! back up to #7

** the Wakefield Doctrine loves metaphors, especially those drawing on the animal world. scotts? predators: think wolf, dog… loyal to the end, fiercely protective, chases anything moving away rapidly and will interpose their bodies between anything rapidly approaching and the members of their pack.

*** so we can post, like entire posts, down there↓

From the beginning time:

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

use this one

…and welcome to the Inaugural Edition of the ‘Ten Things of Thankful’ blog hop.

The  idea-child (to organize a blog hop with ‘Ten Things of Thankful’ as the central theme), of ‘the Considerer’. Her idea of a Saturday blog hop offers to demonstrate an aspect of the internet that is truly remarkable.  To have a community created by the thoughts and ideas (shared by) people from all over the planet… coming into existence for a day…spreading outwards through the blogosphere, passed along, modified enhanced then to fading from view…only to return again, different yet the same. How cool is that?

and…and!!  there are 9 co-hosts!  (the afore-mentioned Considerer), and

  1. A Fly on our (Chicken Coop) Wall
  2. A Woman’s Place
  3. Bringing the Sunshine
  4. Finding Ninee
  5. Icansaymama
  6. Shoved to Them
  7. Steps into Parenthood
  8. the Wakefield Doctrine

Each week…

That’s about it for me, for this Post. While familiar of with use and value of compiling a gratitude list, creating a list is an interestingly arduous task! Not that I am ungrateful, ( non-grateful?? anti-grateful?? hypo-grateful???  lol), for the things in my life, I have not engaged in a formal exercise before this…I will, without a doubt, be sharing my thoughts and impressions as the weeks progress.
And I am also a big advocate of bloghops… especially for those of us who spend a lot of time writing a blog. The hop (like this one right here) is an opportunity to ‘get out… meet new people, read blogs that you might not otherwise come into contact with… so add your blog to the place below that says sign up here… it’ll be fun.

List of 10 things about/within/comprising my life today 06/08/2013 that I feel grateful for:

  1. coming to know interesting people such as Considerer, simply because there is no way I would have met her, were it not for her blog
  2. having the time available to write this post
  3. seeing examples of Posts as written by the other co-hosts
  4. having a family (wife and dog*)
  5. having known the perfect dog…Ola
  6. living in a climate that is only bi-annually of intolerable climate (lol)
  7. the 3 or 4 years spent on fishing boats
  8. the friends that I have
  9. the enemies that I do not have (at least not in large numbers)
  10. the invitation from Considerer to co-host this here bloghop here

Now the hard part!  There’s supposed to appear some code for a button and an invitation to join us… all I need to do is get it right…. hold on….

Hey, I’m sure there is some sort of counter-part over in the UK that will allow this music video appropriate .  Let me know….

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Kristi says:

Oh boy, oh boy, will this comment be frist?

  2. Kristi says:

Yes! As long as we are celebrating, I thought I’d return to the early days of this hop when everyone was trying so hard to be the first to comment. Anyway, I didn’t do my homework and go through every single TToT post from the past 6 years, but if I had, I suspect you would probably take the cake for most consistent participant. Thank you!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Yeah, it was very much a ‘younger’ time and a great deal of fun and energy. Actually it was your research of the actual elapsed time that made it possible to find my first TToT post. (clarks are not so good at estimating time).

  3. What a beautiful shared history, and your list always makes my day.

  4. OMG you were able to get the code to show the widget!!! I won’t tell you how long I searched to just have that as part of my post because totes (what the Clarks these days say rather than “totally” because duh) embarrassing.
I never knew that story about Christine getting all feisty over protecting Lizzi before… but awww. Happy and weepy, for those times. Also, I never saw you as creepy. Fellow Clark, I suppose. Also, don’t you sometimes miss vid-chats? I do…

  5. Finding Ninee says:

“the widget” being the flower thing of TToT, in case that was confusing…

  6. Rebecca says:

It really is bonding to read what other bloggers are thankful for in their lives. I was a chicken about mentioning individual people as single items of thankfulness – (wait- that came out oddly!), because I never want someone to read it and think: “hey, what about me?” Of course my own husband then asked: “Would I make your top 20 or 50?” (His humor). I didn’t want to write about the obvious stuff/people that I am always thankful to have in my life, but… your list is very thoughtful. It is tricky to write only 10 things.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Yes, as an ‘exercise’ a gratitude blog has unique benefits, especially when the ‘atmosphere’ in the group is… err open minded. (lol)… the TToT is a good example of that where the only actual requirement for participation is good intent. Some are very organized, others are skilled writers and, speaking only for myself, some of us find the ‘hop to be a place to simply see what comes out of the keyboard. (Note in my reprint of the first Doctrine post, the question of my capability to express gratitude in a ‘normal way’.*
But its enjoyable and allows us (collectively) to continue the blogging that bring so much from the virtual world.
Glad you could join us this week. Stop in anytime!

*clearly, I’m still working on it…lol

  7. Pat Brockett says:

Thank you Clark for providing more of the history of the TToT beginnings for those of us who started linking up a few years later.
When I went back and read a few of my early posts, I realized that in many ways I haven’t changed deep down. I do know that through the experience of being a part of the TToT my perspective of people and the world around me have been enhanced. :-)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

You are certainly welcome. There is much I have left out (but then, there surely will be other anniversary ‘hops).
As to change that we might see in ourselfs. I’m not so certain, as to “...being a part of the TToT my perspective of people and the world around me have been enhanced.” I have no doubt at all that I too have benefited.

  8. zoe says:

No frist here but Im here nonetheless…Happy Anniversary! Z-

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

lol (I missed at Uncharted, as well)… Hey! zoe! good to ‘see’ you here and all.

  9. Sageleaf says:

Sweet! An anniversary! Congrats on the longevity of this hop. I wanted to call in last evening, but our travel prep kept us going until about 11:30 pm last evening. We’re headed out this morning to the southwest – Four Corners area – before heading to C-Springs to visit family. Road trips! I’m so grateful for these. :)
Whew! All the crazy prep is worth it, though…for some new adventures and fun times ahead. On this anniversary, I’m grateful for this blog hop that is so fun to read on the weekends, for the Doctrine, for road trips, for family, for adventures, for Phyllis and Una and all the things. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Funny, we were talking about your vacation last night, your ears must have been totally combusting… I said I’d have to check, seemingly recalling that you and John go to the ocean each summer. (But I see (above) that its more the former Cretaceous Inland Sea*. Watch out for the eighteen foot sand crabs…. ha ha.
Have a safe and photonic trip.

      * yeah, did have to look it up**
** I knew about the Inland Sea (like, what clark doesn’t?) but not so certain as to the when

  10. It’s amazing how things like blog hops connect people that wouldn’t have met otherwise. I am quite new to this, but such a friendly community as the TTOT is a blessing.
    Have a great week.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Thanks, V
I totally agree, the geographic range is impressive, the mere fact that I don’t tend to be socially confident is even more impressive an effect of these blogs and bloghops.
      Have an excellent week.

  11. Lisa Tomey says:

Great post and I’m in for a virtual vacation!

  12. Lizzi says:

#10 I love. As ever! I had almost forgotten but it made me smile so much.

#7…thank you. I remember you were one of the key people who encouraged me to go on with the daily thankfuls. Alone. With my two comments. HOW IT BLOOMED!

    #9 Of course!

    #6 TToT Live was AWESOME.

(why would I number my points but to make the point I am taking your points out of turn ;) )

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      10) The BoSR/SBoR is surely my favorite feature in this ‘hop. Not only because it lets one do pretty much any thing, but challenges the imagination (’cause, well, ya gots to cite the pertinent Rule, of course)

I was all, ‘holy smoke, she’s doing it because she wants to not because there are people standing around saying way to go’… v impressive
Ocean City… the Second British Invasion! lol

      • Lizzi says:

What can I say? My scottian side took hold 😉

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

(imo) It’s better to be a clark with a secondary scottian aspect than be a scott with a secondary clarklike aspect… if for no other reason than one knows it and can self-improve oneself and the other, not so much.

(As I recall, you were the first of the ‘why, no, I wouldn’t know this clark guy if I ran over him with my car’ generation to extrapolate the principles to a point of seeing the clarks, scotts and rogers…
          very cool)

          • Lizzi says:

Lol well that’s what you get for having something so shiny! Magpies like me want a closer look.

            • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

and we all know, the answer is out there… just a question of turning over enough things, holding them up to make sure they’re not what it is we’re looking for and moving, on.

  13. Hi Clark! This was wonderful! How fun to go back and read your very first TToT post, and you also reminded me about how long Lizzi soldiered on with her own TToT list before it became the thing we all know and love. Her determination to “just do it” has been responsible for such wonderful connections, friendship and support that has become a trademark of TToT membership. This has been a great anniversary gathering, and I’m happy to see that you haven’t forgotten your official rule (Number 10), traditions are important! Happy blogging, my friend. I can see I need to get here more often.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah, that (to me) is the impressive part (i.e. doing something difficult without there being anyone to impress). Thank you for allowing for a transition of stewardship, not always the easiest thing to do successfully.
(Where would I be, without the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules))? lol

  14. Wow, this is my lucky day! I was able to get my comments to actually post on both your blog and Dyanne’s! :-)

  15. Dana says:

So nice to see many familiar faces here! I’m thankful you and I have come in and out of each other’s blogs for the past six plus years.:)

  16. Ok, I just read the post and every comment and I have to sit down for a second. In a chair that doesn’t spin. Did I say I also read the “About” page? Yowzers! You, my fellow scribe, are a force to be reckoned with – no easy reads, I’m thinking. But all fun and intriguing.
And in a very cool corner of the world. I’ll be back… xoxox

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Why, thank you, Nancy!
(I had a funny feeling, for a second, when you mentioned reading the ‘About’ page. I started this blog as a vehicle for the Wakefield Doctrine and my interest in writing developed as a necessity. In a land of the written word, skills become a necessity. So it was with no little trepidation that I clicked on ‘read more’ on the landing page, painfully aware of the fact that I wrote it something like 7 or 8 years ago. Not that I was concerned with the content, rather the expression. If I can free up the time I might edit the About page for style and clarity. The Doctrine, of course, speaks for itself.)

At this point I usually warn new readers that if you find the Wakefield Doctrine fun and useful (as a perspective on the world and the people around us) be warned: if you learn the principles to a sufficient depth, you will begin to the see the clarks, scotts and rogers in your world. (Thats not the warning. The warning is: if you reach that point, you might not be able to not see them…. lol)

  17. dyannedillon says:

You know what’s the most impressive thing about your post today? That on your ORIGINAL TToT post, you actually wrote a coherent list! It’s been a good 6 years, hasn’t it? Here’s to many more!

  18. Lisa L. says:

So good to see you at the party, Clark! You’ve definitely been a stable presence in the TToT for all these years. I am quite thankful for your Secret Book of Rules/Book of Secret Rules! That brought a smile to my face (and an item or two to my lists) many times!
I sent you a FB message about Almira – have you seen it? Check your messages!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      thanks.
It (the TToT) is quite the remarkable community that our friend Lizzi created. (yeah, the BoSR/SBoR… is every open-book exam made fun!)
Just sent off an email to the address you messaged. Should be there by now.
