the Wakefield Doctrine 3 personality types? sure! 3 funniest movies of all time? (jeez, dude a little over-motivated today?)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

I read something somewhere this week that Mercury was retrograde and all talking efforts to communicate were, like totally futile. I think that’s just crazy! But this being Friday and we did have the first Wakefield Doctrine BlogTalkRadio show, today can be an easy day, blogistically speaking. There will be time on the weekend to go into the plans for the next show (Wednesday before the Feast of St Roger at 4:00 pm, EST), plus we have the Saturday Night Drive to prepare for and the DocTees should be hitting their postal targets over the weekend.

So casual Doctrine Friday is officially declared here.* Everyone has their favorite movies and (everyone) has a list of the funniest movies. My List below, starts with Annie Hall, Blazing Saddles,  Airplane! Dogma (couldn’t find any clips short enough)

Annie Hall

Blazing Saddles

Airplane

* casual Friday  Readers are not surprised that we can’t let even a causal Friday, list-based Post go out there without some insight on how the Wakefield Doctrine applies! so…casual Friday:

  • clarks (of the three) are the most prone to over dressing for the workplace, now this is not the ‘over-dressing’ that is high fashion well-dressed that rogers will exhibit …it is more an amping up of what the clark thinks is workplace appropriate dress. So, if we have a clarklike female trying to dress appropriately for an office/administrative setting, then don’t be surprised to see a full business suit (with a touch of the 1940s), but with something secretly out of tune (probably some lingerie that not only was not popular in the 1940s, but was illegal in the 1940s)
  • scotts to celebrate casual Friday, the baseball cap gets turned around with the bill facing backwards, or if the scott is in, say banking or law, then the wingtips get traded for basketball shoes
  • rogers usually the best dressed of the three, at least in a mainstream Cosmo sort of way, casual Friday presents a special challenge to the rogers, both male and female, the tailored suit gets traded in for a Ralph Lauren hoodie and maybe some jeans (totally perfect condition, unless they were bought that way) and logos!! causal Friday or not, rogers  loves they logos… it’s the herd and therefore it’s good

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

    Other than Ken Burns’ Civil War… I’ll always double back for ” There’s Something About Mary”

  2. Yup, still a Roger (at least when I worked and it was indeed Causal Friday), lol!! thanks for the great movie clips and all were very appreciated on this Friday morning. Good luck on the radio show, too :) :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Janine

      “…Yup, still a Roger” Do not despair! We need you people (we speak of clarks) in understanding the reality that you people exist in! Other than the projenitor roger and Steve Crabtree we only have Molly and she is a clark with a secondary rogerian aspect* So any input from inside the world of rogers increases the comprehensiveness of the understanding of your oh–so-precise-but-with-a-bit-of-flair type! lol

      *fortunately Molly is very good at translating (from secondary to predominant)

  3. Cari Lorine says:

    It looks like I don’t watch enough movies! I’ve never seen any of those on the list. When it comes to my worldview, as it relates to casual Friday, I’m a roger, too. Great post!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cari

      You must walk (no, make that run) to the (oh wait! I forgot how old I am!) youtube has a number of full versions of the these movies to stream…I would reccommend Airplane! as the first followed by Annie Hall. I betcha laugh.

  4. Molly Molly M. says:

    And just what, exactly, is not causal about a 1940’s style suit? Complete with the little hat?

    Jeans are for getting dirty in and logos only belong on free things, like the Wrangler t-shirt I am wearing right now — you know, the one that is covered with paint from numerous projects, including today’s.

    You know, even though I do get the ‘roger’ thing of dressing the part to play the part, it cracks me up to see it in motion. This last week, our TeaKwonDo uniforms came in, and my youngest — a full fledged roger — was finally happy to participate in the classes.
    How he looked had a huge impact on how he felt about his ability (and he is only five).

  5. Cyndi says:

    So wait…clarks are the over-dressed with suits? Haha. Ah, but what about the crunchy clarks? You know the ones who love fleece and jeans and hiking boots? I can tell you, I love all three and would regularly wear them to my teaching job. :) Now, that I work at home, I actually like the jeans and fleece, still, but also like leggings and layers and knit hats. So, maybe I’ll be the over-dresser of those who like jeans, hats, fleece, scarves and leggings. HAHAH. Oh crap…I just realized I’m over dressed to be working at home. Crap.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      the key is not the (how much) over-dressed as it is the (why) over-dressed. The example of the clarklike female in the 1940’s business attire is not that she is putting on airs, but by the weird underwear (or tattoos or jewelry) she is demonstrating that no matter how ‘appropriate the fashion’ she is playing ‘dress up’ lol
      in a sense, all clarks play dress up, it shows in the small ways that prove that we are laughing at ourselves even as we make a serious effort to be ‘like the real people’

      oh yeah, has anyone mentioned the thing about shoes and female clarks?

  6. Hmmm, I haven’t seen any of those movies! I need to jack up my movie list sometime I think. As far as casual Fridays go, I think I’m a mix between Rogers and a little bit of Clark. I often found myself dressing up on Fridays, while the rest of the office dressed down. Then other days I’d be comfy and casual.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Melanie

      ..we were talking about the movies and how they were so much older than we (a group of us) ever imagined. That being said, with the exception of Blazing Saddles, Airplane and Annie Hall should still play well. Will be interesting to see how they fared, if you or any of the other ‘1980?-jeez-I-don’t-think-my-parents-had-met-yet’? set end up watching it. lol

      Your Comments about Casual Fridays is part of the reason new Readers (who are capable of ‘getting the Doctrine’) are so sought after. I am constantly looking for ways to illustrate the Wakefield Doctrine and sometimes, frankly I catch myself by surprise, as in the case with how much people can identify with causal Fridays and/or the choice of clothing!* Thanks for the input.

      *as I mentioned to Cyndi, the trick is not what you wear but what the reason you give yourself for a particular choice**

      ** and even that is not what we are looking for, sure you can know what you think your reasons are for choosing one set of clothes over the other, to get the Doctrine you want to infer, from your reason what the nature of the reality that you are living in…is sort of! lol this will have to be a Post for Sunday!

  7. Downspring#1 says:

    @ Molly – How very cool that you can “see” how your 5 yr old reacted to the new uniforms and know the “why” thanks to the Doctrine:) You have a wonderful, large petri dish within which to test the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers. Love your stories!

  8. Kate Hall says:

    I’d be a Scott on casual Friday…actually everyday. Does never getting out of your pajamas count? I’ve never seen Annie Hall and want to. Someday.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kate

      I got paranoid about how old the movies (in my list) were and how well ‘well they would play’ to a modern audience, but Annie Hall is so a story about people, a couple (but as I only just realize) 2 clarks! The character of Annie is so clarklike!

  9. Jennifer says:

    @Kate

    Oh you’d love being a scott everyday! It’s a gas. Any of you remember that phrase? DS1, Molly, Roger and Progenitor are exempt since we all know how old we are… lol Well maybe Molly can take a stab too.
