Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of personality that shows the way to be all the things that you have always thought you could be…and have fun doing it)
Two things and then you are on your own for Today’s Post…
Thing One:
We have had quite a few new Readers in the last couple of weeks, courtesy of Julie’s little blogging group ( Bloppy Bloggers) and being perhaps overly self-conscious in presenting the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine, I may have inadvertently under-emphasized the ‘Fun Factor’. That being said with a relentless barrage of Comments from the likes of Cyndi and Amy and Janine and Cari and Melanie and Kelly and Michelle and even Steve and Rich I have been trying to be so damn careful in how I write, what with the syntax and the properly formed paragraphicallizations, that I might have left out the fun of the Wakefield Doctrine!
Only one thing to do! Get us some “block quotes” and have at it!
The fun of the Wakefield Doctrine?? …it all depends on which of the three personality types you are:
- clarks …sure we enjoy knowing things and learning things and you might think that the unique fun that you get with the Doctrine is being able to know more about the other person than they know about themselves… not it! The real fun is that you are in a group, where you don’t have to keep your distance, the protective coloration that is almost instinctive, just in case. Hell, at the Doctrine the clarks are the damn scotts! lol
- scotts you know that you sense the advantage the Wakefield Doctrine seems to offer you in your day-to-day er…. adventures! And even though you don’t have a lot of time to spend on headstuff…the Comments that you read here talk about some of the scottian characteristics like… like they were not scary behavioral characteristics! Damn, at the Doctrine the hell with ‘show some restraint’, you scotts are listened to like you were rogers!
- rogers you almost stopped reading this thing, figuring it was yet another one of those quirky clarklike blogs, but then you saw the ‘sm’ up on the Title page and your thought ‘this is
Thing Two:
I was talking to the Progenitor roger last night and he said, (and I quote): “I think you should make the DownSprings do at least one Guest Post each. Everyone has learned the Doctrine and even if they seem to not want to be in the spotlight on the Saturday Night Drives, you know they are capable. They probably secretly want it, but I don’t think that you can step back enough to allow them to have the free hand to do this thing”.
That’s all for today. Stop back in later, yo.

Last night, as I was driving home, Mimi form the Drew Carey show came to mind…. She is a scott, isn’t she?
My first thought was ‘clark’, based on how she dresses, but then, her attitude and confidence came to mind — ‘you poor sucker, of course I’m right!’ and the constant loudness in everything she does…
@Molly
Correctamundo (as Samuel would have said)…good call also
you see that there are clues (that help you try one or the other or the other) but in the final analysis, it has to be your judgement of: how does this person regard the world? what is (their) relationship to it (the world)
…and…and, granted it is only a TV show character, but watch how she watches the other characters… there is a focus that is v scottian
nice work yo
My inner roger was thinking exactly what you said and you just blew my mind. Seriously, another fine post and Happy Friday!!
@Janine
…am I to take that as a voluteering to do a guest Post? sctilolbcwa!*
* some acronynm that is not lol but conveys wry amusement
@Mollly – it is the over the top garrishness of Mimi’s (the character) appearance that screams scott. LOL
scotts are very much the “hey! look at me” folks. She knows she is not attractive and that short skirts and cleavage won’t do the trick for her. What’s left? Adorn and paint yourself the clown and you have already, in part, established your objective. The rest is gravy.
@Janine – how refreshing you are! I for one am glad you enjoy this blog. Proof positive that rogers really can enjoy the Wakefield Doctrine! Happy Friday back atcha!!
Ya know, the Progenitor, “first” roger has an interesting idea. One of which had been executed in the early days, btw (somewhat, lol)
But that was then and this is now. The Doctrine has evolved since then and in keeping with that theme I’d like to offer the “pen” to the “first” roger to write the first “Downspring Guest Post”.
@Molly – your comment is an excellent example of the “process of elimination” method when trying to deterime whether a person is a clark, scott or roger. Being aware of the basic characteristics of all 3 forms you then fine tuned your assessment.
As a fellow clarklike female, you were able to recognize that Mimi’s use of self adornment was not for creative self expression but simply to gain instant attention. Likewise you easily recognized a characteristic such as “the constant loudness in everything she does…” as being a scottian trait more than it is a clarklike trait. Rarely, if ever, will you interact with a clark that comes across as crude or crass. godforbid! LOL
The Doctrine IS fun, and (somewhat) easy to learn. Besides, what else gives you an excuse to look at gobs of YouTube clips as one of many affirmative confirmation (clark, scott or roger?) tools.
OK. Gabby GirlieOnTheEdge out!
“the constant loudness in everything she does…” as being a scottian trait more than it is a clarklike trait. Rarely, if ever, will you interact with a clark that comes across as crude or crass. godforbid! LOL”
OK I’ve been “polite” (except in the days with my scottian partner in crime Lunchbox Lenny) on the Saturday Night Drives for a scott. No more refraining. You two clark-like females will just have to cover your ears!
@Jennifer
lol, but as you know, the thing about scotts is that they usually sense what the other person is thinking about (or is deliberateley not thinking about) and then amplify it… to the amusement and distraction of others around them.
(Lets go to nature for an example), the predator stalks the herd, but does not roar and scream at it as long as it is a coherent group, instead it gives it little prods… sensing the ‘mood’, the direction (of the group) attention. Staying a little behind and a little to the right…waiting for the meal to break from the herd and try to make away on it’s own!
(No, I am not channeling Marlin)
Oh dear, the roger in me doesn’t want to had to admit to my rogerness–happy Friday!
@Audrey
It’s funny how we see the 3 types in a variety of perspectives… very often you get scotts who cannot imagine being a roger or a clark…even a roger at times (when surrounded by their herd) will tilt their heads in a quizzical manner when asked if they ever thought about developing their clarklike aspects… clarks, on the other hand… well! we are the ones who are never at rest, are always searching for something that is important but, oddly enough, we don’t seem to need to know why this thing is important!
HAHA. I was talking to my sister today who was talking about her granddaughter (and meanwhile I don’t even have a single kid) and I was thinking, she’s such a roger. HAHA. I love being the damned scott of the place. :D I’m learning so much.
@Cyndi
yeah, when you start to ‘recognize’ the personality types as manifested in the people in our lives… you have definitely stepped into a very interesting perspective place.
And just when you think you know what’s coming in the Wakefield Doctrine, along comes a post to shake things up a bit! Enjoyed this one as I do all of your posts. Great post to end off the week – happy weekend! :)
@Melanie
I know what you mean! All the Comments from you and the SecondGen Readers (mostly from BB) have provided me with one more source of stimulus for Post writing. Often the core idea (for a Post) doesn’t appear until I’m a third of the way in to a new Post. Sort of “…alright, clark, you have made a claim/assumptions/assertion, lets see you write your way out of this!
Thank you for the Commentation
Roger that Clark! Said Scott! Hahaha
And hey – your syntax is awesome:) no worries there!
