Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Here’s the Weekend Buzz:

  • there is college football on TV  which allows for: scotts to bet money, rogers to ignore (unless they went to school there) and for clarks to watch and wish they were young again (as if that would make any difference)
  • there is a day of household chores to catch up on: the clarks tackling the work in a focused, organized way intended to get enough done by noon to justify blowing the rest off to do something fun in the afternoon, the scotts will be busy helping the neighbors re-sod a half acre of lawn and somehow manage to borrow 2 major power tools and the rogers will, in a calculated and ritualistic manner that would put a Zen monk to shame, do their chores (not your chores, my chores! stop looking at me…these are my chores!)
  • there is food shopping to be done, which means: the roger will shop, the scott and/or the clark will be left home because they will always forget to buy vegetable oil, enough flour or paper tools
  • there are ‘errands to run’ which means: the clark will do it very efficiently, unless there is a bookstore or a scottian proprietor at any of the stops on the list, the scott?  well seeing how your plans for the evening don’t require  leaving the house any earlier than 8, plan on your ‘where-the-hell-are-you?’ call for about 7:30 and the roger will have completed the task list early (and efficiently) and can be found in the laundry/garage/kitchen putting the finishing touches on their hobby/craft
  • going out for the evening: clarks…hey! clarks you will know people there! it will be interesting, they’re not just my friends! scotts will be ready and they will enjoy themselves and you will be able find the perfect matching lead to make you the most perfectly dressed couple at the party! and rogers? they look forward to parties the way that clarks look forward to the moments before sleep when they are truly exhausted

and….and for those of you who have a certain,  je ne sais quoi*  and believe that weekends are the launching pad, the starting line, the behind the curtain, the mezzanine, the delivery room, (the) kindergarten to a happy life and satisfying relationships, you know the phone number and passcode  (Wakefield Doctrine Saturday Night Drive Call-in 8:00 pm EDT  218-339-0422   512103#) so call us if:

  • you are at the bar and she seems to be interested in talking to you, but you’re not quite sure (and therefore you are  so a clark)
  • you really are looking for your spouse at the crowded party, but this other person just won’t leave you alone ( roger…you brought this on yourself)
  • you truly believe that all you were doing was enjoying a conversation with…well, with all of them and no, you don’t think anything was inappropriate…  (scott, scott, scott!  how many times do we need to tell you? your ‘other half’ does not get the thrill of the hunt, the killing of the prey… sorry, but call us, we’ll tell you what to say!)
oh yeah, personal invite out to Cyndi!  Cyndi is someone we met this week on ‘the internets’ and she has a rather good blog!  Called pictmillitude  (hope I have the format of the name correct) and it has some photos that will, as old and absent friends would have said, ‘knock yer socks off’  go, read, look and enjoy.

 

*  lol we know!  but it’s French!

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

    Just curious. When a clark abandons his responsibilities like that, what does ‘ something fun in the afternoon’ actually consist of? I’m envious. Being a roger, my sense of social involvement prevents such frivolity. I can’t do ‘ fun stuff.’ I can only do ‘ other stuff.’ And I have to make sure that I don’t secretly enjoy it.

    Haha, this clark doesn’t watch football, but I DID run errands VERY efficiently today…going in a nice big circle to save gas and bide my time well. LOL. Fun post. :)

      I will invite you, formally and directly, to call us tonight while on the Drive, those who call in do report that sometimes you have to try twice. Being a clark, I have been (occasionally been) accused of not being direct, even when it is a good thing to do so, so this ‘Cyndi! call us on the Saturday Night Drive tonight, yo’.

    one answer that serves for both ‘question’ which will allow me to make (for the 1,000th time) a point at the bottom of the Comment, indicated in that secret-shouting-way that clarks totally love, i.e. the asterix

    I will leave it to the Readers to imagine what is natural (and therefore) fun for a clark and what is natural for a roger Having said that, it’s no secret that I love to look for parallelisms, so lets try this:

    rogers (as the Progenitor roger correctly states) have an innate sense of social involvement, but rather than that preventing roger from having fun, it is this permission (or referential authority) to enjoy what he/she is doing, the sense of satisfaction that the roger is participating in the herd….

    clarks do not have a sense of social involvement, but not living on a desert island (yum, yum!) are involved socially, so they do chores but to abandon the social involvement puts them where they belong naturally, outside

    * the thing about the Doctrine is that as our understanding grows and we look at more and more different aspects of life, it is critical to remember that nothing/no act/no impulse/reaction is inherently clarklike or scottian or rogerian, or to put it another, more fun way: everything is done by everyone it is how (that thing) is related to within the definition of the worldview of the person we are talking about…
