Month: August 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 3 Month: August 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 3

End-of-Summertime Blues HEY! Lets get our picture taken during a Saturday Night Drive!! the Wakefield Doctrine (what a fun bunch of people we are!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

A big Wakefield Doctrine Shout-Out to our newest DocTee wearing Friend of the Doctrine (karen) and some of our FaceBook aquaintanceses:

  • “.…me? or you were talking to that friend of mine…thats cool, yeah hi or hello or welcome, wait I will find someone who will be glad to greet you properly…” ( clark )
  • HEY!!  oooh  Baby!!! (or)  Babe  or anything else that will keep you focused ON ME!!!  I gots your WELCOME!!! right here.”  “!!!” “lol”  ( scott )
  • hi,  yeah, don’t mind the scott, he and she both mean well, gets all excited, can’t help themselves  … another person? can’t imagine who… oh! sure!  that must have been the clark, they can be so….so  (roger)

Listen, it’s getting dark later and later, so hurry up and call us this Saturday1  Not that we will not be driving around Wakefield in the dark of Winter, (as we surely will),  but I was thinking, “You know what would be really fun? A group picture!! Damn! That would be very great!

Lets get everyone in the car corporally and dashboard-istically2 and stop at one of the spots we usually stop at during our fun-fun-fun Wakefield Doctrine Saturday Night Drives and take a damn photo! just like every group of friends tries to do as the Summer and/or Vacations begins to draw to an end!!  But first we need to make a couple of decisions:

  1. where do we take this ‘picture’
  2. do we make it a still photo or a video?
OK the first question is pretty easy!
There are a couple of picturesque places in and around Wakefield where we always stop (and one not so picturesque place),  so maybe we will try to get a picture at each location. Send us your thoughts and vote for your favorite location!
  • ‘the Wall’ at the Towers3
  • the Parking lot at Georges
  • the traffic light at Cumberland Farms (or)
  • the parking lot at the Wakefield Mall
Be sure to vote for your favorite
The more difficult decision is: do we do a still photo or  do we do a video?
Seeing how the majority of you people are in the dashboard for the Drive, surely it’s got to be a video!  Here’s my idea:
Everyone will sit quietly in the dashboard, except for those who are in the car in person (which might be AKH or the Progenitor roger or glenn or Joanne or even Phyllis).  Once all forward motion has ceased, I’ll get out of the car (with my trusty video camera), walk a short distance from the car and do a quick ‘establishing shot’.  Then  a 360 of the car and everyone can say hello!!  Real loud like, I will have the roof open and such… you may need to take turns, but the camera has sufficient audio recording capability to pick up your voices. Of course, any of our photo/audio-phobic friends can remain silent (…clarks!) and I will just mention your name.
What a splendid End-of Summer idea!!
OK then  lets agree either this weekend or next weekend… be in the car at 8pm EDST and we will do this thing.
Write a Comment and all that other stuff that the real blogs have!

1) btw a little insight? that joke really cracks me up! it is so clarklike!

2) meaning those of you who call and hangout in the dashboard

3)  the ‘cover photo’ shows the Towers in Narragansett

be more of a clark? on purpose? are you serious?!? the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

We all know that:

  • clarks think
  • scotts act
  • rogers feel
(and)  ..we all know that scotts are the confident ones, they are the ones who do not hesitate to act, scotts are the natural leaders and when they shout to the group (and there is always a group around them), when it comes into the head of a scott to move, to act, to do something (because they are bored) and they say,  “Hey!! Lets go this way! (most) people follow immediately, without hesitation or  question.
(and) we all know that rogers are the confident ones, they are the ones who know all about the matter at hand, the whys and the wherefores and most importantly, they know about who else has been/is/or will be involved in the activity that you are curious about, rogers are the organized ones  and when they say, “You should do it this way, (most) people will follow (the directions).
So what about the clarks?
(well) everyone knows that clarks are:
  • possessed of/by/with a really great sense of humor, well  …better make that a rather odd sense of humor
  • a very caring and sensitive person, well …at least once you get to know her and not be put off by the weirdness
  • smart, so smart that its, well  …not smart in terms of grades or day-to-day real life decisions,  but in every other way!
  • organized, has everything in his head, well organized on some level but if you need to remember something you said last year or the name of the actor in a 23 year old movie!
  • attractive, well not in what you might call the conventional way, but when you see how she offsets the tattoos with the boots and it, somehow ties together, kinda spooky actually
  • creative really more than anyone, well if creative is about the things that never were and will never be,  then you have the right person
  • intuitive, she has a way of, well, I  think she holds back how much she understands
  • weird  well duh!
If you are (still) reading, then you are what we call a scott or a roger or a clark with a certain level of flexible intelligence*… and in an effort to increase the odds that you will continue reading, we will say this:  if you are a scott then you have what we call a secondary clarklike aspect and if you are a roger, then you have what we call a secondary clarklike aspect.  As you know, while we all develop as one predominant type (clark or scott or roger ) we always retain the capacity to experience the world as the ‘other two’ types. We call these two types the secondary aspect and the tertiary aspect. They have an effect on how you express your predominant personality type, but that is beyond the scope of this here Post here. Suffice to say, if you are not a (predominant) clark, then your secondary aspect most likely is clarklike because it is the insatiable curiosity and tolerance of the unknown that keeps you reading, despite all your instincts to the contrary.
So about the music that follows… the fun of totally enjoying a song by Bill Monroe, then hearing something like the Fred Hammond tune from yesterday’s Post and then having ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk’ come on the radio and smiling for the pure joy of the wonderful and horrifying variety of things to appreciate that is available to you, when you are a clark.

Cretaceous Seaway, children and the end of Summer… you say the Wakefield Doctrine can help us be better ‘us'(es)?? damn! that is one efficacious Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

Frequent Doctrine Readers will spot today’s Post as one of those ‘stuck-with-a-Post Title-and-trying-to-write-his-way-out’ Post.

Earlier today,  Friend of the Doctrine, Jasmine Tea wrote a Comment letting us know where to send her DocTee (that) she won by correctly identifying Jimi Hendrix as a clark.1 As often happens, in my reply I decided to do another Contest, a quick ‘name the song’. The Contest Prize was to be the opportunity to Host the Saturday Night Drive ( with that as a prize, I can imagine the responses:  “the Star Spangled Banner!!”… “Bach’s Prelude in C”!!!, “Itzy Bitzy Spider!! Itzy Bitzy Spider!!!” ). This is not to say that a prize such as the opportunity to ‘direct the conversation’ during one of our Saturday Night Drives would not be so coveted… it’s just that no two Saturdays are the same. Fun? yes   the same? nah.  (I will be happy to impart to the Contest Winner the Secret of a Successful Saturday Night Drive: ‘do not crash the car into anything’.) Pretty simple, isn’t it?

In any event, in the course of an enjoyable chatation with Molly (on ‘the Facebook’), she mentioned that she and her Family Unit went to the Shores of the Inland Sea over the weekend, to hunt for fossils and maybe a bone fragment from the skeleton of Richard Attenborough. Naturally, this prompted me to try and find a related photo-image. Which is, of course,  what we see on today’s Post.  (...the Doctrine!! clark! for god’s sake tie this train wreck to the Wakefield Doctrine and get on with your day)  (HTFU!!)

What would prehistoric clarksscotts and rogers look like? I began to despair as to my ability to imagine scotts as cavemen/cavewomen….(“what do you mean, nothing necessary?! how cruel! “)   … cave rogers…. (“hey! stop putting ashes on the wall and fix dinner”)…. paleo-clarks?  (“hey! go look at the cliff bottom see if any of those ‘me-fly-like ‘bird’ people are still twitching!”)

…nah  we have to go further back  back to the Mesozoic Era:

  • clarks: eomaia ( “don’t worry only the clarks will go to the trouble to look this one up”)
  • scotts: velociraptor (” hell no! lets run and get them all!!”)
  • rogers: brontosauruseses (brontosaurii?) large, slow moving, totally confident that size and momentuum will preserve their reality  (“hey, Thunder Lizard dude, whats that in the sky?”)
OK done! Well, Molly if you need a Lecturer for the Fall Semester, do not hesitate to call us!
1) and Steve also got the correct answer and contributed to the expansion of the understanding of ‘how we know that Jimi Hendrix is a clark‘ Good work, all!
(I suspect I have recently used/borrowed this music vid, but I have the song stuck in my head…so  (btw thats Marvin McQuitty on drums, Steve))

“…the one and only Billy Shears” the Wakefield Doctrine: Saturday Night Drive Re-Cap ( ya shoulda been there!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Saturday Night Drives… you have been thinking about calling in, but you are hesitant to dial that there number there, what to expect? well, if you had called in last night, you would have gotten an opportunity to register your opinion on a variety of topics, (mostly, but not entirely Doctrine related discussions):

….why (you know) that Jimi Hendrix was a clark, what is it about scotts that allow them to be so direct and act on impulse and desire?, if you slept over at Jeff Beck’s house, why would you insist that they make-up the Guest Pool Table?… the eyes of a roger, in what ways are they different from clarks and from scotts
(Steve Crabtree was a Caller last night,  first damn time, Steve yo! We want to thank him for his contribution of the story about the pool table, among other things….thats the idea of the call…totally un-related people contributing very diverse views and thoughts, all tied together by this Doctrine thing of ours.)

So lets look at the eyes of a roger (and a scott):

Jack’s  a scott… (yeah, no kidding!) You see the eyes. It is not just that he is staring at Stewart (James Spader), but the intent/intensity is quite marked. That is the gaze of a scott. Go out today and watch the people you associate with, hang out with, are married to… if you see eyes like this, then you have arrived at the the first step (of) the process of identifying a person as a clark, scott or roger. The second step is to watch this person further, and decide if their behavior is consistent with what we know the behavior of a scott to be. (Are they a little, overly-exuberant? Are they fun to be with? Are they constantly joking/telling jokes, do they appear to have difficulty sitting still?) What you are doing, in this phase of personality type identification,  is inferring the (actual) reality that they are experiencing.* Once you have decided which of the three they are, the Doctrine will take care of the rest!**

James is so a roger… and his character Stewart’s eyes? they’re are all over the damn place! Watch him, watch his eyes (particularly in the context of what he is saying)! He looks to the left, he looks to the right, he looks directly at Jack, without flinching and with equal ease, he looks out the window!! Remind you of something??  (You younger Readers may miss this reference)…. ever watch those old fashioned ‘lion tamers’?  (No! not Siegfried and Roy, I mean the real old timer,  big round cage, with these like ‘stands arrayed around the interior and the Lion Tamer would go in with a whip and a chair ( yeah, scott  just like your date last night…) And this person would make the lions (and sometimes tigers) sit and stay (and a number of other ‘tricks’ that now, seem just plain cruel and childish, but that was in the last Century and humans were remarkably un-sophisticated).
In any event, the point I am trying to make here is that at the climax of the act, the Lion Tamer would do something like get close to the lions and turn his back on them. To show us how brave a man he must be and (show) the lions how dominant he feels he is.
James Spader, with his eyes is trying to do that with Jack.

Didn’t we tell you how much fun and how constantly fascinating this Wakefield Doctrine is?  And we have not even delved into what is about the reality of the scottian personality it is that makes this behavior permissible!! For that you need to call us next Saturday!

1) we all have the capability of living in a reality (sometimes referred to as a worldview) that is characterized as being the world of the outsider (clark), the environment of the predator (scott) or the life of the socially  connected (roger) and we all pick one to live our lives in, so the Wakefield Doctrine is more about understanding the reality that the other person is experiencing as the way to understand (and predict!) the behavior of the people in our lives.

2) once you learn the Wakefield Doctrine and the ways of clarks, scotts and rogers you will see the people in your life in a whole different way!

HEY! (or how the scottian aspect is manifested in most clarks) the Wakefield Doctrine ( yeah, back to work, even if it *is* Friday)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

We want to thank ‘our Ms. Tea’, for the enjoyable break from the grind here at Doctrine U.1 Be sure to bookmark or follow or join or whatever the hell it is that people do to keep track of friends and others. Here at the Doctrine we put them on the blogroll (to the right there–> actually it says ‘Friends of the Doctrine’, but you know that we meant blogroll, right?) or we send them a Tee shirt or a hat, that way the next time I am on the road for a Doctrine Roadtrip, I will spot the shirt and run up and say, “The First Rule of…!”2

In any event, breaks over and we must push on in our efforts to explain the Wakefield Doctrine in ways and manners that makes understanding the Doctrine accessible to more and more people. Who, by your lack of a Doctrine shirt, means you! (Yes, you. There is no one behind you at your computer that we are talking to… we clearly are addressing you  and if you have not clicked off this page by now, then you are definitely the kind of Reader we want to hear from. Seriously. Comment. Call. I. will. stop. now.)

The Title of today’s Post alludes to the part of the Wakefield Doctrine that says, “…we are all born with the capability to experience the world as a clark (the worldview of the Outsider) or a scott (the reality of the Predator) or the roger (the quantifiable, world of social connectivity). At an early age we ‘settle into’ one of these three worldviews and develop our ‘personalities’ appropriately to the reality we are in, however we never lose the capacity to experience the world as the other two personality types. In fact, we look at these ‘other two’ as the secondary and tertiary aspects of an individual’s personality type. For example, I am a clark with a strong secondary scottian aspect and a weak tertiary rogerian aspect. DS#1 is a clark with a moderate secondary scottian and moderate tertiary rogerian aspect, Ms.AKH she a scott with a strong secondary clarklike aspect and a moderate tertiary rogerian aspect and Molly… a clark with a strong secondary rogerian aspect with a moderate scottian tertiary. Pretty simple, isn’t it”

Why the taxonomy? Mostly because everyone we meet finds the Wakefield Doctrine interesting and/or fun with an element of possible usefulness, but always encounters the ‘problem’ of not being sure if they are a clark or a scott or a roger because even though they are pretty sure they fit the description of one of the three, there are definitely times when they are one of the other two. Totally normal and above is the ‘reason’. A word of caution here! This ‘secondary and tertiary’ stuff is advanced Doctrine principles. It is not necessary to ‘get it’ to enjoy the Wakefield Doctrine. The bottom line is and always has been: try it out, you are mostly one of the three but this is art not science, so relax, have fun and watch your family and friends start to act like scotts and rogers and clarks before your very eyes!! (We have been told by Readers, that it gets a little spooky sometimes how, once they have the characteristics down enough to make a proper identification, the people they are watching totally stay in character. We reply, “Damn! that’s one hell of a Doctrine, non?”)

Kind of running out of time this am, will get back to the matter of the scottian aspects as manifested in the clarklike personality types tomorrow, which we all must mark on our calendars: ‘August 11 write a Comment and remind Steve that he needs to call in, damn it.’

( Lets enjoy the borrowed pleasure of the marginally illegal (hopefully), use of the following youtube video of Jimi Hendrix3)

1)  not it’s real name, there is no University operating under the name ‘Doctrine U’ or ‘Doctrine University’ or even the “Wakefield School of Understanding those crazy scotts and damn rogers” although you gots to admit it would be cool.

2)  little joke and reference to a most excellent movie

3) CONTEST!!! free Wakefield Doctrine Tea shirt to the Reader who correctly identifies Jimi’s personality type
