Monday Morning Saturday Night Report! the Wakefield Doctrine: self-induced development

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

Good Saturday Night Drive this weekend… Ms. AKH  ( dans la voiture ) , DS#1 and Alx showed up in the dashboard so close together, that  the air conditioning came on all by itself!

The conversation began with a discussion of how the predatory impulse is observed being expressed differently between scottian male and scottian female. The consensus:  for the females weapon of choice is seduction (sexual and otherwise for the females) and ‘flat-out’ ankle-biting, bark-at-the-moon aggression for the male-type scotts. The omniversation then meandered into, ‘why it is the scotts (male) always push things just a little too far, usually in the context of joke telling’… (at which point Alx described the first joke in his comedy act).
About  15 minutes into the Drive we heard our woman announcer’s voice say, (in that self-assured yet totally reassuring tone:  “…the Caller…”    of course we all figured it was Molly showing up a little late,  but to our surprise, it was the Progenitor roger!

And so the conversation veered into more gentle pastures, all participants being considerate of the famously-refined rogerian sensibilities, but as a yin to the (scottian) yang, the resultant exchange of thoughts and ideas was quite enjoyablistic. In fact, we all learned three things about clarks, scotts and rogers,  consider:

***that  ‘hobby’ referred to as Civil War Re-Enacting?  rogers to a man (with the occasional scott who misread the invitations and really thought he could use live ammunition or, at very least, shoot the loud and noisy cannon off and startle things) and some supporting clarks ( after all, to make an impressive show of rank and file you need bodies and no body enjoys taking orders more than a clark)
***the thing that rogers like about the Re-Enacting is that it allows them an escape from the daily hustle ‘n bustle of the modern world and  they get to see what it was like to live in the old days of history
***rogers, given an opportunity will be the providers (in a given household) which is interesting, in that this is in distinction to a) being the homemaker or b) being the matriarch

***scotts will push everyone on the shoulder (figuratively or literally) for the express purpose of getting a response/reaction,
***the reaction that scotts look for when they are being pushy or noisy or obnoxious is always the same: ranking  (if you push back there will be a fight for dominance, if you don’t then you are in the pack and therefore submissive)
***the distinction between rogers and scotts in terms of sociability,  the rogers are very sociable and very good at being attractive and engaging but the purpose is simply to form a herd (around themselves),  a scott on the other hand, is very social but is looking for their next meal

***clarks can imagine both points of view (as a roger or as a scott), but are limited in that they (the clarks) know that they are just points of view
***clarks will on occasion slap down a scott with as little thought and concern as a human housebreaking a 6 week old puppy who has just ‘had an accident’ in the living room, which explains why clarks and scotts make such good friends
***clarks have nearly endless patience for the demands of rogers, mostly because rogers have (in abundance) what clarks lack  emotional attachment to life

Molly…Molly…Molly  Mark your calendar for next week, yo.  ….and, Molly?  the principles contained in the Doctrine imply that you will enjoy the following video, unless, of course, your clarklike aspect detects a trap/threat of some sort, in which case you will:

  • a) express a total indifference to said video
  • b) find an element implied in the video which forms the basis of a serious question
  • c) smile and quickly glance to your left for no apparent reason

Saturday Morning * the Wakefield Doctrine * so, what else is new?

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine  (‘the only Guide to Understanding People you will Ever Need’)

Before we go any further, please answer the following questions (quickly and without looking at your neighbor for help, encouragement or condemntion ) Yes or No:

  1. I would buy a book about the Wakefield Doctrine but only if it was in trade paperback format
  2. I think I know what the Wakefield Doctrine is all about, but the webpage is hard to figure out
  3. I know my friends would enjoy this thing and I know which of the three types they are
  4. I would write a Comment to this Post, just as soon as I figure out what I want to say
  5. I would call the number tonight ( 218-339-0422 ) if I knew the access code to join the Saturday Night Drive Call-in show
  6. I had it here somewhere…
  7. I knew I had the access number  ( 512103 then # )
  8. I might call but I don’t want to get involved in anything weird
  9. I will call…almost totally for sure

If you answered ‘Yes’ to at least 7 of the above questions, you qualify for a (nearly free) Wakefield Doctrine hat (for your damn head)!
If you are not sure if you should call, then you need to go to DS#1’s site and ask her advice…
If you think it might be fun, but… you want to think about it,  then you first should ask Ms. AKH
If you heard that there were these really scottian boys on the line all the time, then the best thing is to go ask Molly, ( when she just small )
If you think it might be fun, but you know there is something important that you will be doing at 8:00 to 8:45 EST,  but you can’t remember right at the moment what it was then you should go to the Secessioning Rug and hang out with roger

See ya tonight!!   No, wait!  Unless you are prepared to drive to southern RI and sit in the parking lot of the Wakefield Mall at the appointed time…then you will just have to settle for hearing us tonight on the phone.  Or not. Whatever

the theory of clarks, (they’re out living life)s and (they are living in center of all that really matters)s … it’s about us, today oh yeah!! Video Friday #28!!!

self-development tool for self-improvement of interpersonal-strategic skills… come on!  you know you want it!  This website here is what you have been spending all these hours surfing the internet hoping to find, deny or accede, does not matter. Every word you read affirms this.

Hey, relax  this is the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )  we are here to help:

  • pass some time
  • have some fun
  • learn something new or re-discover something you have known all along

Video Number 28 in the Wakefield Doctrine’s Exclusive Feature,  Video Friday!

…you still here?  Thinking you might be a clark?  or waiting for someone to walk by so you can grab them and say, ‘HEY! I got somethin here, ya gonna love it!!’  or maybe you are thinking, ‘this clown is getting all that attention, why should he get all that attention, it’s all obvious!’

Well,  just so we all know who we are and where the hell we stand, try this:  following is a little anecdote from the ‘About’  page of this here blog here. Read the story and when you have finished reading it, ask (yourself) a simple true or false question:

True or False:  “Do I  see how this Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ) has come to be,  an inevitable extension of the experience (related in the story)  and a fuckin inevitable outcome.?”

In the early 1980’s, Scott (the progenitor scott) worked at a music store in Pawtucket. He was the main salesman and also ran the repair department (of the store), this included not only repairing musical instruments and equipment that he sold, but any equipment that might be in need of repair, including various types of tape recorders and other similar equipment.

One day I happened to stop by the store to visit scott while he worked. While there, a customer came into the store, went to the ‘repair department where scott and I were talking and presented to scott  what was known as a  ‘duel cassette recorder’  (This device had the capacity to record two cassette cartridges at once and was most often used to copy the contents of one cassette to another cassette, what we would call today, making a back up. Among the controls on this ‘dubbing recorder’ were two of all the normal tape recorder controls: volume, treble and bass. Where it was different from a single cassette recorder was that it had a Master Volume control dial, which, as the name implies controlled the overall sound output of the device.) The recorder that the customer placed on the counter appeared to be new and had no signs of damage or abuse. (As the customer approached the counter, I stepped back and scott looked up and said, ‘What can we do for you’?   The customer said to  Scott, “this thing is brand new, it worked for a couple of days, then it stopped working entirely, I can’t figure out what is wrong”.

Scott looked at the recorder briefly, without saying a word and then reached under the counter and brought out some (black) electrical tape, and tearing off a 2 inch piece of tape, taped over the Master Volume control (after returning the dial to it’s highest setting). After completing this, scott slid the device back over towards the customer and simply said, “ There, its all right now”

The customer asked to plug in the recorder, took a cassette form his pocket, tried the recorder, ran it through it’s paces; seeing that the broken tape recorder that he brought into the store now worked like new thanked scott and walked out of the store without another word. A totally satisfied customer.

From my perspective the world shifted. For reasons not clear to this day, I not only saw what scott had seen (the nature of the equipment problem) but I saw that his solution implied a reality, a ‘context’ that was clearly different from the one that I assumed to be the same as everyone experienced.

self-improvement! good god!! what is it good for (unnh!!) absolutely nothin*

 Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine!
We are genuinely glad you could stop by and take a look at this thing of ours. Today we have a short, quick Post for you, because tomorrow is Video Friday and at the moment I have nothing but an odd idea (for the video)  and that’s it.
No, truth be told, I have more than that! I have the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ) and that gives me a ‘tool’, a ‘resource’ and ‘place to stand’

Since I brought it up, what do I mean when I refer to (the Wakefield Doctrine) as a ‘tool’, a ‘resource’ and ‘a place to stand’?  I will be glad to tell you, but before we do that, a quick, block-quoted overview of the Wakefield Doctrine for the new Reader.

The Wakefield Doctrine is based on the idea that all people are born with the potential to experience the world in one of the three characteristic ways and that at an early age we  ‘settle on’ one of these (3)  ways and go on to live and experience the world as:  a clark,  a scott or as a roger. Predominately one of the three, we never lose the capacity to see the world as the other two types would. (This is why many people, when introduced to the Doctrine, will say, “I know I must be a roger, but sometimes I act like a scott! ) As a ‘personality theory’, the Wakefield Doctrine  maintains  that it is not a collection of self-reported traits, habits, likes/dislikes…favorite colors…zodiacal influences, none of these are essential to understanding the behavior of people. The Doctrine  simply says that some people live among us as outsiders, other people that you may encounter today live in the world as predators and an awful lot of the people you may bump into today are experiencing the world as if they were a member of a vast herd; this is the key to understanding the behavior of the people in our lives.  With this unique, useful and fun view of human interaction, not only will you finally be able to answer that most frustrating of lamentations,  “Why on earth would they go and do something like that? I really thought I knew them better!”
The Wakefield Doctrine is one of the most useful and efficacious and totally effective approaches to self-development.  The Wakefield Doctrine is gender neutral and culture neutral.  The Wakefield Doctrine is  easy to learn, completely fun to use  and will help you get whatever it is that you think you need to get from Life.

Back to today’s topic… you know that there are three types of people reading this, right?  clarks: who get this Doctrine-thing right off the bat;  scotts: (who) understand  it pretty quickly, but throw most of it away and only keep the parts with an edge and/or are shiny and rogers: who understand and have an initial enthusiasm but then unfortunately, they look around, see the lack of a crowd or an Official Endorsement or a scott and they let it drop out of their hands.  Well the thing about the ‘use’ of the Doctrine is as follows:

  • tool  the Wakefield Doctrine will allow you to understand the other person in your life. Note that we did not say ‘agree’ or ‘get comfortable’  we said understand. The reason that you will be able to understand the other person is that you will be able to figure out if they are a clark or a scott or a roger, unless the person you are trying to understand is the same type as you, you will then have a perspective, you will see the differences in the world they are experiencing compared to your own.
  • resource: contrary to what most scotts say and many rogers infer (in private) there is always room to self-improve ourselfs
  • a place to stand:  a reference to Archimedes…made sense at the beginning of the Post, now…not so much

In conclusion, we invite you to join us, if you are sociable and/or hungry (literally or figuratively) then go and visit one of the DownSprings or FOTD’s sites!!  Lets see now… pour un appétit comme la vôtre, peut je recommande:

scotts:  start over at DS#1’s site and then maybe Alex’s and finally to  pour nettoyer le palais  maybe  Molly’s blog or Alexandra’s
rogers: AKH is where you need to start, then DownSpring glenn’s and finally the roger’s blog ( yeah, I know)
clarks:  lol  whatever…try to remember where you have been

So where is the damn exit from this funhouse, at!!?

*( appy polly loggies to Edwin Starr for today’s Post Title.)

…’of dreamboats and Androgynes’ …fashion decisions and Personality Types, the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

Wait! Don’t ‘click through’, we want you to read today’s Post!
Don’t let the Title (of today’s Post) keep you from spending 5 minutes with us.  The goal here is to present the Wakefield Doctrine in a continuing variety of ways. ( I’ll let you in on a little secret)… the Titles of these Posts are as much a stimulus for the author as they are an invitation for the Readers. Sometimes a ( Wakefield Doctrine ) Post is written and then a Title must be found; other times a Title is created and the Post follows. This is one of those times.1

Today we will present: the preliminary outline of an overview of a section contained in the (first draft) Outline of a book. ( Working Title: the Wakefield Doctrine: a uniquely effective Toolset for the Practising Clinician. )2  …as most of you already know:

the Wakefield Doctrine is a unique, engaging and fun way to look at the behavior of the people in our lives. Through the use of the tools that comprise the Doctrine, we will at long last be able to answer the question, ‘Now why one earth would they go and act like that? I really thought I knew them better!’   With the Wakefield Doctrine as a tool, you will know more about (that) other person in your life than they will know about themselves. And if that is not enough, with the Wakefield Doctrine, you will be able to change those things about yourself that you have been wanting to change for years. You will have an edge on (nearly) everyone around you in virtually all life situations.

Exercises for assessment and everyday application:

People Watching.  A basic tenet of the Wakefield Doctrine is that we experience the world as (does) one of the three personality types, however we retain the capacity to see the world (and therefore act) in a manner characteristic of the other two. When it comes to our individual sense of fashion, how we dress ourselves, the dominant personality will totally call the shots.   As with all other aspects of the Doctrine, fashion choice (as an indicator of personality type) is only one of quite a few different ways that our

clarks: we should totally start our ‘Guide to Personality by Fashion’  with:  clarklike females.  Often referred in a humorous manner, ( Fashion from the Annie Hall line, courtesy  Androgyny House Paris, Miami NY)  the fashion choices of the clarklike female are not only un-mistakeable, they are an illustration of how the Doctrine itself works! In very simple terms, when we see the choices of dress and clothing that are characteristic of the clarklike female, we are actually getting a glimpse of the world, as seen by this person. This applies to rogers and scotts equally.
(Let’s re-affirm that the Doctrine is gender neutral  the male counterparts of the clarks, scotts and roger will show, in their manner of dress, which of the three they are, however in the current culture, fashion remains largely a girl thing.)3
The point is that when you spot a clarklike female, the person with the variety and mixing of fashion elements, you are being afforded an opportunity to see the world through her eyes. (And as with clarks of the male type) what you are seeing is a world in which (our clarklike female)  sees herself as an outsider, but feeling that she must fit in as her contemporaries appear to be doing, brings to bear the creativity of the clark… in a sense, she will dress with everyone in mind. The fashion choices of our clarklike female not only show this creativity but also clearly shows the strength of ego that while twisted by the fear of being excluded that all clarks are heir to, will not be repressed. As is said of all clarks, they feel that they do not want to be the center of attention but they will, under no circumstance be ignored.  So the clarklike female shows us how they see the world (and their place in it) in their choice of dress and appearance.

scotts: in this context (fashion as an indicator of how a person perceives the world) scotts, both male and female are kinda easy. In fact, for these two: a) little black dress;  b) baseball cap and tee shirt
pretty simple, isn’t it?

rogers: as we saw in the case of the clark, there is a clear indication of the personality type in choices of dress. In the case of rogers, it is the male roger who shows his ( colors? stripes?…logos!) rogers of the male persuasion love hats! and they love to wear function-related clothing, i.e. those latex things that bicycle rogers wear, those shower cap things that swimming rogers insist on (if they don’t just go and shave their damn heads) and any other clothing that is meant to enhance performance in an activity or sport but, in actuality end up being a way to paste logos and labels all over themselves, the better to be identified with the herd.

There! 45 more re-writes and I will be ready to sit down with my colaborator, Lise and see if we can’t add to our opus être

Thanks for stopping in! If you have any input or thoughts regarding clarks, scotts and rogers and (their) respective fashion choices let us know!  And, like they say at the end of those really stupid Public Service Announcement-type things. ‘ and if you find  this topic interesting you can learn more just by going to… ‘  In our case if you want to learn more about scotts go to AKH’s blog  or for a (slightly more distaff view, lol) try out DS#1’s excellent blog or if you are feeling like taking a break, reading for the sake of the eyeball-exercise,  mosey on over to the Dishrag (tell ’em the Doctrine sent ya!)

1)  blog writers may identify with this feeling,  …you stand on the sidelines of an incredibly large ice skating rink. You have your skates on (and padding… why the padding is not clear, but you sort of not bother wondering why) and you see the vast expanse of ice so large it disappears into the distance. You know you need to get out there and you fear that when you are out there you will not know what to do next. So you make up a reason to slide away from the bleachers… and you hope for the best. sort of like that.

2)  too wordy, yeah we agree but if you have any thoughts (on titles, lol) send them in.

3)  of course you disagree… write a Comment already
