self-development, 3 personality types and the Wakefield Doctrine (oh yeah, damn almost forgot! Video Friiidaay!!!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

There will come a time, in the not too distant future, when people you know, will come up and say, “hey! I just heard about this Doctrine thing, and it’s supposed to be about personality types, but they have these hats and this guy travels around the world and takes these really strange videos and talks about rogers and clarks and scotts! Those are the names they have for 3 personality types…yeah…I know….but it’s true! they have pictures and charts and stuff and when I looked around at people here at school or at my job, there they were!  Anyway, they said this Doctrine will help me change anything about myself that I want…and it’s true….”

…and that will be very cool, but you are here now and you are watching this thing of ours, and  I am including you in the use of the word ‘ours’. With a Wakefield Doctrine hat (on your damn head) and a little patience you will be a part of the growth of the Doctrine. Of course, writing a Comment wouldn’t hurt either!
As we all know, to be a ‘personality theory/self-improvement tool’ ya gotta provide proof that it works!    Alright, then take a look at these here videos here:*

Then on to the other Crossroads:**

…Tell me quick where I can get rid of these things!

* look at the geocoding of the location…damn Highway 61
** look up the legend of Robert Johnson and the Crossroads

3 personality types, overhead luggage and the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ).

We are back from our Road Trip and have much to report on! Being that tomorrow is Video Friday, today’s will be fairly brief  as we must, perforce,  download and edit the video we took on our little foray out into the hinterlands.  For today, we will simply say this: as a serious student of the Wakefield Doctrine, spending any time in an ‘airplane place’, or (better yet), sitting in one of the first few rows of an actual-about-to-fly-to-another-airplane-place, will do more to demonstrate and illustrate the characteristics of the three personality types than you will get from (reading) 6 Posts, (taking) 2 trips to the local mall* and making call in to our Saturday Night Drive show. It is near Rosetta stone-like in learnation of the Doctrine.

(Example):

  • a passenger comes down the aisle already wearing those Bluetooth ear-phone thingies and they don’t bother interrupting their conversation (which by the way, is one long sentence…no pauses, no changes in emphasis)
  • a passenger steps carefully down the airplane-narrow aisle totally focused on finding the correct row, oblivious to their surroundings (other than the seat number) but still manages to not bump into, touch, brush against or otherwise have any physical contact with other people in an environment that, without exaggeration, makes the inside of an MRI feel like standing in the middle of Yankee Stadium in the middle of February
  • the traveller who will be heard before they get to their seat, joking, greeting, talking (without or without getting an actual response from anyone else on the plane)
  • the passenger who is carrying a water bottle,  4″ by 4″ square white Styrofoam containers of food and one of those foam tube things to keep them from choking to death while asleep after eating, (I swear this is true) the barbecue deluxe meal complete with tiny containers of beans, contained in the aforementioned 4″ by 4″ container
  • anyone carrying a laptop and a book of sudoku

Over the next few Posts, we will present examples and illustrations and demonstrations of the three personality types of the Wakefield Doctrine as they were observed, ‘in the wild’.

Thanks to Claire and Molly and AKH for their wishes of Godspeediness! We did, in fact,  get to the Crossroads and have photos to prove it. Not only that, we  parked illegally at the intersection of MS Rt 1 and Rt 8, across from some kind of school complex,  in order to get our photos of the Crossroad in Rosedale!  Thus serving as a reminder that even though we all have one dominant ‘personality type’, we never lose the capacity to see the world as the other two.
So when you look at a person and they are clearly rogerian, do not get upset if you see them acting like a clark in one situation and a scott in another.  Just the way it is.

( Big Wakefield Doctrine Shout-out to Lady Wordsmith  “Hey! We got a hat with one of our names on it! Come on down!”

*  Look, this is meant to be fun! It’s not all empirical and pay-attentiony. So find a friend who knows about the Doctrine and go out hunting!  An evening at the local Mall will simply never be the same!

the White Zone is for Loading and Un-Loading only… (Redux 2011) the Wakefield Doctrine on the road

Welcome the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

We are on the move again, taking the Doctrine on the road! With hat (and damn head in hand) we are travelling this week and have our clarklike sights set on Dallas Texas* and the Mississippi Delta.  This (first)  Post will be  of the  ‘filler Post’ variety. Mostly consisting of observations of the people (and their personality types) that I encounter in locations like the waiting area in various ‘airplane places’. And with any luck, they will provide us with interesting and amusing illustration(s) of the the three personality types, in situ (or is that in vivo….in terruptusin camera??).

OK, lets do this thing:

scotts: They are (the) natural tourists and travellers, driven by the instinct to find the new, fresh hunting grounds. With their trademarked confidence and certainty, scotts love to explore and provided they do not get totally lost,  they become experienced travellers. They can be fun travelling companions, especially if you are interested in the local culture, as your travelling scott is drawn to the local people and customs like a dog in a butcher shop.

rogers:  Our methodical friends do travel, but are not drawn to the idea of travel for the sake of exploring new locations. After all, rogers know the world as it should be and anything that does not match (their) description, kind of doesn’t matter so much. Having said that, the majority of the ‘tourism industry’ owes it’s very existence to rogers. Seeing how it is the rogerian tendency to ‘live by storyboard’,  it is only natural that a form of travel and tourism should develop to meet the needs of those rogers with a sense of adventure.  That’s why they invented  the: guided-packaged-tours (lead by some local semi-celebrity) for the Trip of a Lifetime to places like: the Holy City, New York City, River City, New Jack City, the City of Tomorrow,  or the Town that Time Forgot. rogers,  will so buy souvenirs, postcards and other proof-of-being-there items. And photos!! They totally will have volumes of intricately catalogued and cross-references, tabbed-index and short synopsis at (the bottom of each) photos of every place they believe they have been to!

clarks: Now here’s a surprise, clarks will be the most skilled of travellers, at least among the small percentage (of clarks) that actually venture out of their: rooms, homes, apartments, familiar parts of their hometown, parents basements, friends living rooms. When required to travel to strange and exotic places, the innate flexibility/adaptability almost always allows the clark to become a skilled traveller.

Thats about it. (btw  nothing helps develop your Doctrine skills like sitting in the front of the airplane as the rest of the passengers embark! you watch and you learn)

Also there is a video over at the Wakefield Doctrine (redux) that is from last Saturday’s Saturday Night Drive. Go watch it.

Video Friday Episode 18!! Right or Incorrect… the Wakefield Doctrine has the Answer!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

(If you had Hamburger Fricassee at school lunch yesterday, then today must be Friday.)    If today is Friday,  then it is time for a weekly Video!!

2 Good things and 1 Bad thing about today’s video:

Bad Thing:

  1. Production Value. OK, I will admit that this is not such a ‘bad thing’ about today’s video. Truth of the matter, I enjoy the live, ‘on the road’ gritty, earthy feel of the interior of a German luxury car. In the middle of a performance, and without warning things go awry, I can feel the leather seats and they seem to say, “What the hell? You are (barely) controlling 3,527 pound of car at 60 or 70 miles per hour, ain’t this Wakefield Doctrine something?”
  2. Organization and Presentation of Subject Material. The argument continues with some of the DownSprings regarding the value and importance (of) rehearsal. The scottian element is all, “hey man! it’s one take or nothin…get the excitmantment thats the only thing that will excise…exceria  get them Readers goin…..Fuck!”  The jury is still out on that one.

Good Thing :

  1. Topic       The key to the wider acceptance of the Wakefield Doctrine lies in clearly presenting the ‘how to’ of the Doctrine. As we tried to get across in today’s video, by raising the question of ‘is there one correct answer’, Progenitor roger has provided both an answer and an illustration of (the basis of the answer)!
  2. Involvement of DownSprings and Progenitors.      (Back to production values etc), both Ms AKH and DS#1  were able to look at the videos ( there were three done yesterday) and apply an objective assessment of them, and with their knowledge of the Doctrine they could recommend the version (of yesterday’s vid) that best presented the ideas we were trying to communicate.

There you have it!  Look, Listen, Learn.

‘so many different viewpoints… no, wait a minute’! 3 personality types and just one Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

(totally grateful to Justin Greene and we really hope he doesn’t mind our using his most excellent comic panel)

Movies, video interviews, ‘live phone-in’ shows  is this a personality theory or  the un-conscious dream of the collective clark? What the hell!? I see a lot of creative intelligence being demonstrated, a boatload of perceptive intellect but Big Picture!!  come on people!!….ya gotta be thinking Big Picture.

roger, roger roger….what have I done to have you treat us this way? of the three types you are the most gifted of communicators. You pick up the pen and the words come so effortlessly. Is it the fact that we knew that you would have this gift that makes you want to pull back and take your toys to your room and shut the door?

Hey, scott!!  yeah…   whatever. No, no save it! We know what you are going to say.  ( Haven’t you been listening at all?…this is the fuckin Wakefield Doctrine…we know what you are thinking*) Yes, we see that you have all the energy in the world and you have been well behaved… We are not going to give you special privileges simply because you are reasonably well-behaved of late, as much of an accomplishment that is for you…

The Wakefield Doctrine is a unique, useful, very simple tool that will allow you to understand the personality (and behavior) of the people in your life. As a tool, the Doctrine requires learning and practice in order to use it properly and effectively. Being ‘very simple to use’ means that there is a danger of misuse, most commonly in the form of over: thinking/interpreting/analyzin and dramatizin.

And last, but certainly not least, the Wakefield Doctrine ( theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ) is fun!  Really!  Our blog is demonstration and proof of this claim. If you go through the pages of this blog and watch the videos that are attached and read the Comments to the Posts, you will see a growing collection of (fairly) exceptional people interacting in ways and exchanging thoughts and ideas and just plain having fun. When all is said and done, the Wakefield Doctrine is clearly growing and developing  in ways that frankly, none of the original  authors had anticipated. If there is a single, non-grammatically correct  sentence that explains why the Wakefield Doctrine will continue to grow more and more rapidly, it is: “the Doctrine is more than we thought and is growing to reflect the needs of the people joining it…”

As new people come to understand the ideas that comprise the Wakefield Doctrine and the more they ask questions, the more we adapt and (the Doctrine) shows more useful elements. To the newer Friends of the Doctrine (FOTD) such as Nell  or Molly or Claire or even the marginal ones such as MJM or the people who may go to the Video Channel devoted to Saturday Night Drives, to all of you we say, ‘hey thanks for stopping by! Pretty cool theory of personality, no?  Just don’t over-analyze it. The Doctrine is more art than it is science, go with your gut. And, by the way? you want to get your scottian and rogerian friends to come along with you? Yes, we know how difficult they can be…but we guarantee they will have a good time.’

It has always been the primary shortcoming of (most of) these Posts that the fun aspects of learning about the Wakefield Doctrine is under-promoted, blame it on the clarklike perspective of the primary contributor. If there are any scotts or rogers out there reading this, if you would like to do a guest Post, write us a comment or an email and we will make the necessary arrangements.  The Doctrine will meet the needs, the fun requirement, the challenge quotient of any clark…every damn scott and all the rogers in the herd.

To close, lets review:

  • we all have the qualities of all 3 personality types, it is just a predominance of (one of the 3) that makes us clarks or scotts or rogers
  • the Doctrine is gender and culture and age neutral…it is about how a person perceives the world, not their shape or their dress or their condition
  • if you are trying to figure which type someone is, remember: try different tests of characteristics, don’t get hung-up on just one (see point 1)
  • don’t forget! you are one of the three, so you will approach this as your personality type…
  • clarks, don’t get hung up on the details and don’t worry so much about maybe being wrong,  (you will) get it wrong…don’t worry about it
  • scotts…don’t get scared by your inner clark (see Point 1) the fun you have in your head is no threat to the fun you have outside your head…so run with it!! (you like running)
  • roger…whether you like it or not  you are a part of this herd…you just have not found the right scent or color pattern or whatever the hell you people do in order to feel that something is good and has the right to exist

Let’s listen to a ‘borrowed video’. And for god’s sake would someone volunteer for a Video Interview!! Good News…a vote was taken and it is a consensus that Videos should be no longer than 3 minutes**

* ok, to be totally correct  thinking is not quite the right word… lol
** …each   ( lol )
