the Wakefield Doctrine ‘Always Chilled…Never Heated’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Finish the Sentence Friday.

(a ‘blog hop’ that is being: sponsored,  promoted, hosted by, enticed-into-by-the-charms-of, held-in-a-metaphorical-gymnasium-on-a-Friday-night, on-the-list-of-charming-old-homes-to-tour, the central feature of the blogosphere and experienced as the high point of the week at the BB&G,  courtesy of the Doctrine’s three favorite Bloggarini : Janine ( Confessions of a Mommyaholic), Kate (Can I have another bottle of Whine…), Stephanie (Mommy, for real) and Dawn (Dawn’s Disaster)

(…be still, my dog(s) of war…just walk away”)

“If I were stuck on an island, I would like to have…”

the following in no particular order or emphasis:

  • Ginger and Maryanne
  • an internet connection
  • the body of a 19 year old (gender optional)
  • the mind of my present age
  • 1 of my childhood friends
  • 3 of my adolescent aged friends
  • 1 of my teenage years girlfriends (real or imagined)
  • my first car (1964 Chevy Bel Air station wagon in faded-to-orange-blue paint)
  • a contract to complete the Wakefield Doctrine book (currently in ‘pre-write’)
  • the physique to wear shorts without looking: a) silly, b) old or d) excessively gay (not that there’s anything wrong with being gay)
  • an endless supply of BLTs (despite the climate there is always magically un-adulterated mayonnaise)
  • a boat (just for sitting in and looking at the Island from the middle of the lagoon, with Maryanne waving and what I would swear looks like Ola in a clearing in the jungle)

Hey!  Somehow I have this little darling up at the beginning of the eponymous Friday morning…. hey!  don’t be afraid to call in tomorrow night (if you find yourself in a place at 8:00 pm EDT where you know where the kids are, and they seem to be happy and quiet or you have no plans and you feel like something that will challenge your beliefs and amuse you in ways that you haven’t been amused since…oh I don’t know… since, before girlfriends and boyfriends, husbands and wives, children and favorite pets became the central organizing feature of your reality.  call and you might find yourself enjoying, or not who can really say for sure?

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. Ginger and Maryann surely made me smile and I with you on having my now wisdom, but my younger body!! Wouldn’t it be great to somehow combine the two. Thanks as always for linking up with us Clark!! :)

  2. Terrye says:

    omg, you used Mad Max! Back when Mel Gibson was *HOT* Ok, I’m having flashbacks of his driving the bus…I wonder if I could take him to the island with me….hm…that’s a nice daydream. ;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Terrye

      “..my dog of war, we have all lost someone we love” damn, that was such an excellent movie (do you remember the split second in the bus driving scene where you can see someone (maybe a stunt coordinator) crouching on the floor of the cab of the truck?
      …speaking of hot in the movie, one word: Warrior Woman (aka Virgina Hey)

      Virginia Hey

  3. Cyndi says:

    Your list for requirements on an island is fabulous. I love the “gender optional” bit…it made me giggle. And there’s a book in the works? VERY cool. You rock.
    Is Maryanne the significant other? That’s awesome, too.
    If I was stranded on an island, I’d want my S.O., my cats, my camera, writing tools, art tools and a treehouse with lots of cool alcoves and bridges joining other treehouses I’d build. Yeah, I could so do that life. ;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      lol

      (no, actually Maryann is seen here with Ginger and the Professor*)

      the Professor, Maryann and Ginger

      …Gilligan’s Island a favorite childhood TV memory of old, old people lol

  4. You said it Terrye! Mel was hot up until the first Lethal Weapon. LOL
    Road Warrior remains one of my all time favorite movies and certainly worthy of being taken to that desert island. The movie had someone, I mean something for everyone.

    I’ll never forget going to see it in the theater…with another clark and a roger. Came out totally stoked. A clark was driving so you can imagine the ride home!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Denise

      …’the Ayotollah and Rockin Ruler (I think that’s the sentence that is being made.)

  5. @Clark – actually I believe the sentence that was made was “the Ayotollah of Rock an Rolla”. LOL

  6. Can I come to your island too? I don’t really care if both Ginger and Maryanne are there, but I do think it’s a great idea to have the body of a 19 year old!

  7. Kate Hall says:

    Great list! Maryanne could make you her world-famous coconut cream pies. I would want some friends too. :-)

  8. OK, let me see if I can remember my favorite parts: “metaphorical gymnasium”, “gender optional” and “pre-write stage”. Have I mentioned how much I love your comments on my posts? They are sometimes the highlight of my day. OK, wait that sounded kind of sad, let me rephrase: They always brighten my day. Always glad to see you linking up with us!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Stephanie

      lol the pleasure is mine, these hops are a part of the week that I look forward to* and I feel good this week having managed to get the Post in before the end of the day…and hope to get all the (other) Posts read before the end of the daylight hours!

      *it happens often with regular Doctrine Posts but always with FTSF posts… I end up surprised when I re-read them, (lol)

  9. Kerri says:

    How cool that I was not the only one wishing for the perfect body for the beach!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kerri

      well it wouldn’t do to go running around the jungle and hurting ourselves! after all, we can’t all be Keith Richards lol

  10. RCoyne RCoyne says:

    Seeing as how the castaway’s clothes stayed in very presentable condition over three years, I have to surmise that there was a dry cleaners’ on the far side of the island. Same day service!
    Do you guys remember Road Warrior only running for 3 days in Narragansett, or am I hallucinating again?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Roger

      well given Mrs Howells (or was it Ginger’s) feathered boas… there had to be. I don’t remember the run length, I do have a memory of seeing it at least once if not twice more in the theatre maybe even once with the Progenitor scott…and Phyllis

  11. Jessica says:

    I think Maryanne would be cool to hang out with on the island. However, for stimulating conversation, I would like to have the Professor there too! I need to speak with a nerd every now and then :)

    Jessica
    The Wondering Brain

  12. It’s Saturday and since I was not blown out of my house during yesterday’s not unforcasted hurricane like but definitely tropical storm force winds, 2 power outages and near flooding, I plan on calling in tonight to the Doctrine Saturday night call in show. Last week’s call was fun. Jennifer was there as was Roger. Enjoyed the discussion.

    Which made me think of something….Roger mentioned last Saturday his vacation was fast arriving. Being the roger of clarkscottroger fame (infamy? lol) what are the chances Clark, of doing a video blog post with the roger riding shotgun as you travel those lovely roads in Rhode Island? Roger? You up for that?

    Anybody second my request?

  13. Hi there, wonderful post as usual, I did so enjoy it! I loved the 19 year-old-bit, at least I wouldn’t be plagued with arthritis and I could go swimming again, which I would love! The book sounds interesting too, are we the receivers of secret information? How cool! See you soon!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Joan

      …that is an interesting concept, though familiar to all of us not 19 years old, i.e. what would be the outcome (on your personality) of inhabiting your 19 year old body…and even more intriguing scenario is: you go back to when you were 19 years old, your current contemporary personality and experience intact, no indication to those around you that you are anyone other than (your) 19 yo self… I have found that what most likely would happen is a bit surprising.
