Quick post.

Damn! That comic strip used to get us so mad as a burgeoning adolescent, or would that more properly be, a ‘bludgeoning semi-adult’? No, we stand by our reaction, even allowing for our less-than-developed personality.

Wait a minute! Did we just say ‘less-than-developed’? lol We did!

Sorry, it’s funny ’cause it’s so not true. You know the expression, ‘…has an old soul’? That comes from people observing young clarks without the benefit of a certain personality system. (ok, one hint: it rhymes with ‘the Wakefield Doctrine’)

Why would someone make that adjudication?* The Doctrine is simple when it comes to how personality develops. It, (the Doctrine, not the personality), insists that personality develops as the person(ette) encounters the world and develops strategies and coping mechanisms. ‘Cept with the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers, we maintain that it is the character of the individual’s relationship with the world that holds the key to how they figure the best way to live. There are three possibilities: as an Outsider, as a Predator and as a Member of the Herd.

rogers fit right in, they manifest as the norm for the group, scotts are miniaturized ‘uncles and aunts our parents don’t talk about all that much, except for during exceptional arguments centered on family or from cousins who visit only in the summer (and leave precipitously and earlier than anyone thought)’. clarks: … you wanna know the biggest fear, the fundamental ‘don’t-let-that-happen’, the ultimate scary story/fairy tale?

No clark seeks out, enjoys or willingly submits to scrutiny. (While scotts welcome the challenge, because, you know, that ranking of the pack thing they do and, besides they loves themselves a good fight and rogers, hell it’s like hearing they’re a shoe-in for Homecoming Queen/King? Whatever)

gone too far… any questions, that’s why god invented a Comments box. More, another day, about old souls… wait, chances are if you’re still reading, you’re a clark or, at very least (and nothing to be ashamed of) a scott or a roger with a significant secondary clarklike aspect. And you’ll know what we mean.

Monday.
Get the hell up.
You know of the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) and you will recognise at least one roger or one scott in your world today.
You will not approach this individual or otherwise make them aware of your knowledge that they are just like we talk about here.
You will do your best to maintain your composure, unless you are reading this with a friend and/or friends, in which case, listen to the clark among you.
When you spot your first roger, it will most likely be in an ‘organised environment’, ie.e school or work or any other place that you are compelled to follow certain guidelines as to your own activity.
Make a note of your first sighting (being extra careful if you are spotting a scott, do not, under any circumstance allow the scott to see you taking notes.)
If you are a roger (yeah, right!) do not allow other herd members to observe you doing anything that is out of the ordinary.
Clarks…you will have no trouble…unless you start to think that this Wakefield Doctrine will win the love of the herd or the backing of the scott.
When you have spotted the first, the rest will be easy.
Expect to make mistakes initially deciding if a person is a scott or (an aggressive) roger.
Don’t be concerned, it happens to the best of us at the beginning.
You will notice, rather quickly, that rogers are using the personal pronoun way, way, way more than the scott…
You will (then) notice that the scott has the attention span of a 3 month old puppy on amphetamines

We here at the Doctrine will be standing by, both Progenitors and DownSprings to help where we can, but knowing about the Wakefield Doctrine (and seeing the world accordingly) thing is a lot like…riding a bike?…nah a bike is inanimate and while fun will not turn on you if you stray from the herd…or totally prey on you until something more attractive comes along, …like learning to play an instrument?…no way! playing an instrument has a set technique and therefore is totally predictable so that if you hit certain keys on a keyboard you will always get a certain sound/tone….like sex?….maybe…it sort of has the always the same almost always enjoyable and worthwhile, except when it is not and then the results are to be regretted for a life time…yeah sort of like that.
But all of us here, at Doctrine central, admire you as you got out into the world today, armed with a knowledge and a power that is shared by 10s and 10s of people here and there around the globe. Now you know how Noah must of felt…you gotta get out in the world and do something that you will be glad you did, but you better not let the neighbors get too close a look at your backyard…or something like that.

He will hopefully be sporting some fine Doctrine apparel and we hope to see a photo of his hat (for his damn head) in front of a landmark from his part of the country. Ronin has taken it to the next level (for many blog writers) and has written a book. ‘Hats off”(our damn heads) go to his site and read a spell. This is the Wakefield Doctrine’s contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop.

Sometimes, on occasion, Readers demand an explanation of our weekly endeavor, “Hey! Doctrine, we’ve met you in person(s) and you strike us as being a touch on the hypo-emotive side, ya know? Whatcha doin contributing to what, in the common parlance, is known as a gratitude blog. Can you tell us that?”

The TToT’s origin story is fairly interesting. And, given how synchronicity in the virtual world is a common as ‘cloudy, chance of afternoon showers’ in the ‘real’ world, we were pleasantly-unsurprised to come across recently posted photos on the facebook from one of the original hostinae, Christine. Anyway. So, back in 1988 or ’89, Lizzi, the Foundress of the TToT, took to the notion of hosting a bloghop in her own, non-hopping blog, ‘Considerings‘. And, talk about ‘walking the walk’!! Anyway, to truncate the narrative, being the Wakefield Doctrine predominant worldview personality type she was, she decided that one co-host wasn’t really to her liking, so she picked ten bloggers to invite to join her.

Yep, she asked us. Worse, we accepted. ‘Sure! What harm can we do to the efforts of a bunch of well-intentioned, skilled writers from all over the werld?’ lol That was, something like forty-three years ago. Since then, each weekend, there have been TToT posts that share the people, places and things that touch the contributor’s lives and consciousness. And, of course, those from the Wakefield Doctrine.

The Wakefield Doctrine is a tool, an additional perspective on the world around us and the people who make it up. If employed, one is benefitted in two distinct ways: a) by seeing the situation (person/place/thing) differently (as is the case with most alternate perspectives, the difference can be great or it can be small) and, perhaps add to one’s experience and 2) to be reminded that there is more than one perspective on life, which in and of itself is empowering by the implied acknowledgement that our personal realities and the personal realities of others are congruent. Except where they are not.

One way to think of the goal of the Wakefield Doctrine is: to aid in the ongoing process of self-improving ourselfs by appreciating the world as the other person is experiencing it. (And, in doing so, improve our acceptance and appreciation of how we relate ourselves to the world around us.)

hey, you know how we say that one of the primary values of the Wakefield Doctrine lies in it providing a certain perspective on behavior that, when applied to our own lives, proves to be a unique tool for self-development?

well, we do.
the important thing is this: in order to effectively use the Wakefield Doctrine as a tool for self-improvement and/or self-development it’s necessary to understand the nature of the three worldviews.

new readers! dig this: we are all born with the innate capacity to experience the world in one of three ways, or worldviews (aka personal realities): the world/life as an Outsider (clarks), living and developing as one must to survive and flourish in the reality of the Predator (scotts) and experiencing the world as a member of a Herd (rogers). you with us? fine. we all ‘pick’ a worldview and grow up and develop our personalities in response to the particular challenges and advantages found in these realities. the thing is, we retain the potential to see the world as ‘the other two’ do. for example, I’m a clark, predominant worldview is that of the Outsider which means the world around me today is such that I do not fit in, I see things in a way that results in my demonstrating a certain creativity, I spent a lot of time being self-effacing, (often amounting to self-destructiveness), I have an insatiable appetite to learn new information and I am simultaneously sentimental and cold. that is because that is the nature of the world I wake up to. I also have a secondary (and a tertiary) aspect. my secondary is that of a scott and my 3rd is rogerian. (btw these secondary and tertiary aspects? thats why people sometimes will say, ‘hey I must be some kind of new personality type! like a clarkroger, because most of the time I feel like I’ll never fit in and then sometimes I can be real real stubborn and obstinate’ that’s your secondary showing through.

so…learn the characteristics of the three worldviews. observe your fellow lifeforms. infer the reality that they appear to be responding and reacting to and once you are able to correctly infer the worldview of the other person, you will know more about them than they know about themselves.
so…learn the characteristics of the three worldviews. observe yourself. first eliminate the obviously not fitting worldview, then hold the other two worldviews up and see which one makes the world make (more) sense… that is your predominant worldview. that is what will be useful to you, if you have an interest in: understanding the behavior of the people in our lives, taking better advantage of the people in our lives, knowing more about the inner thoughts and feelings of the people in our lives and , for some of you… learning ways to improve your own life.

we used to do an internet radio show and one of the things I always tried to say to the listener about the Doctrine was, “the Wakefield Doctrine is concerned with ‘how you relate yourself to the world around you’. note that I did not say, ‘…how you relate to the world’… I said, ‘ how you relate yourself to the world around you’”. that distinction is of critical importance in making the Doctrine a useful and effective tool.

… so we will stop here for today.

… one thing! to clarify my point, at the beginning of today’s Post, the key to using the Doctrine is learning and understanding the nature, characteristics and such of the three worldviews. in fact, it was DownSpring Cyndi who proffered the term ‘fluency’ as a way to describe our efforts to learn about the three worldviews, i.e. “hey, I am becoming more fluent in the scottian worldview… FUCK!” or “my fluency in the rogerian reality allows me to approximate the ‘projectile disinterest’ that we see so many of the ‘natives’ employ to such devastating effect”

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

At last! Friday! With all its pressure to make the cost of the weekdays feel worthwhile, and most of its promise to allow sufficient enjoyment to believe we are not all running on invisible hamster wheels.

New Readers (and not-so-new-Readers) Here is our challenge for the weekend:

Find the clarks in your world and let them know that you know (but won’t tell anyone)

Spot the scotts (there will be one among your immediate social circle and at least one just out there) Make them laugh at something/anything*

Identify the rogers (to whoever said, ‘Like that’s gonna be tough, they make up 2/3s of the population‘, we retort: “Hold on, we’re not done with the assignment.”) Get within conversational range and compliment them, then leave before he/she can reciprocate.

Quick Guide to the three worldviews:

clarks tend to dress in a way that doesn’t look quite right, but not in a negative way. There is always something creative to the fashion/dress of a clark (in our North American culture, females enjoy a range of sartorial expression not normally enjoyed by their clarklike brethren, so why wouldn’t one make of the most of the metal and lace palette and employ a palette of color visible only to lifeforms more comfortable in the fluorescent end of the spectrum). When you spot a clark, make no sudden moves or otherwise draw attention to them, or they’ll blend into the woodwork faster than a chameleon on amphetamines in a pile of saw dust. Best way to let them know you know: listen for the jokes they mutter, the two of you will be the only ones laughing.

scotts ….well, scotts they’re there, thing is, its best (for the purposes of this assignment) that you spot them first**. In fact, the challenge in this….err challenge is to spot the scott before they spot you… good luck.

rogers… ok, don’t have to look too hard… well-dressed, (by local conventional standards), friendly and at the center of a moving spiral of people (if there are enough people) Warning: if you are a clark, do not attempt the challenge if your target Roger is not alone or has less than four people around them….

[Ed. Note: Yes, there is a correlation between the predominant worldviews of the Wakefield Doctrine and the three main characters in the Wizard of Oz. I mean, it’s as if the idea of a clark, scott and roger were, like, some kind of universal principles! lol If you’re trying to decide how to associate the three, remember, the Doctrine is about how a person relates themselves to the world around them.]
* extra points for it being a scottian female

** there is zero question that, once you’ve entered into their environment, (social, physical, sexual…pretty much all the ‘als’ other than spiritual, lol), they will notice you and interact with you if, for no other reason than to establish ranking***

Tuesday -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘The devil, you say?/ The devil, you say’

Speaking of the the Everything Rule… (well, we were yesterday).

So here are three movie actors playing the role of Satan/the Devil/Lucifer

Can you see how the predominant worldview of the actors results in a different depiction of this rather culturally-durable figure?

Anticipatory Response: the Everything Rule states: “Everyone does everything, at one time or another.” In terms of the perspective(s) of the Wakefield Doctrine it simply means, there is no such ‘thing’ as something that is of the exclusive domain of a clark (or) a scott (or) a roger. We all exist in what is safest to refer to as a common reality*. “That is something only a scott would do.” “Acting like that is so rogerian, too bad I’m a clark, I’d love to be that self-absorbent.”

To account for what is often very different ways, (among the three predominant worldviews), we employ the ‘manifest’. “Hey! I need a finish carpenter, do you know any rogers in that part of the business.” “The award to the top real estate agent in the office, this year is a tie! It goes to rogerian male and scottian female!”

‘Yeah, but, you’re talking about actors playing parts. They are working from a script, thats not the real person being the devil. Blame the writer.’

We’ll let the New Readers find their way to reconciling the person and the role, at their own pace. The journey is the trip.

But! Lookee here! The role of the devil as (manifested) ‘delivered’ by a clarklike, scottian and rogerian actor.

* while predicated on the concept of personal reality, and much as we’d like to see it, just because our reality is personal to us versus your’s to you, sorry, no secret ability to fly or be invisible or be emotion-proof.
