Reprint Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Started a ‘this is the Wakefield Doctrine’ post. Have run out of time. (We all know that’s not the problem we face every day. We always have the same amount of time, every day.) The problem is running out of energy. Not merely the ‘I feel invigorated and full of energy’ state of being. More the: ‘How can I seriously expect to succeed at…’ or ‘Screw it, a new project, that’s what I need to get going…’ or ‘If they’d of let me do it the way I wanted, none of this would have happened…’

Let dig out an old Post. There’s a day waiting out there. (New Readers? One way of identifying clarks is totally exemplified in the previous statement.)

“…as I was about to say, when I rudely interrupted myself” the Wakefield Doctrine (of blogs and book writing)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)‘…you should write a book.’  ‘…hey, have you ever thought about writing a book?’ ‘…you know clark, what would be real good, would be if you wrote all that stuff down.’  ‘…my sisters best friends’ brother wrote a book about personality types..I think they’re gonna make it into a movie.’

You know, whoever said, ‘…easier said than done’ was probably talking about blogs and book writing. It’s just that everyone, in this demographic…the one that includes: people who write daily blogs, girls who paint, guys with cameras, mothers with children and sisters with ambition, they all seem to have the energy, the skills and the time and the energy to produce, at very least, a draft manuscript of a decent idea for a book or a novel, a memoir or an autho-biography.
As a matter of fact, the group that I joined on ‘the Facebook’ (the BB&G) were in the midst of starting some kind of book-writing marathon… the nano-mo-ho, or the whoo-hoo-write write, whatever…I recall it was a Contest, at least as much of a contest that female women, god-bless-their-understanding-instead-of-killing-and-destroying hearts are capable of…. (remind me to tell you about a sporting event that centered on one of the women athlete’s being on the verge of breaking (a) world (scoring) record… it’s a sweet story from the X-chrome side of the fence and is totally incomprehensible to the rest of us. …it involved a team sport and when the athlete was at the point, about to break it, everyone stopped playing…I mean everyone, the other team included …no!  really! the opposing team stood aside so the shot could be made and the record books be re-written!! even a rogerwould shake their oft-bearded heads at such behavior.  I suppose that’s why there’s no Emperor Ming-ette or Ghengis Connie  or  (hey, stop me if I am going on too much with this…there is a point in this here Post here… if I write enough words I will come upon it. I know I will.

I got it now!!  I don’t think it’s my dissatisfaction with my efforts to take what is known about the Wakefield Doctrine and turn it into a book. At least I don’t think it is… well, maybe a little. It’s just that all the parts are there…it sits in my head every day and…and even when I am not writing about the Doctrine, someone like Cyndi or Terrye or Melanie or Janine or Amy or Jen or Kristi (newest addition to the blogroll!) or Denise or Stephanie or even the Progenitor roger will write a Comment that makes me see more of the Doctrine (more uses, more insights, more wisdom, more humor, more ways-to-win-an-argument, more ways-to-get-lucky, more skills for career advancement, more insights into the behavior of our: spouse/the kids/the boss/the ex/the new beau/the cop standing next to your car;  there just seems to be no end to the ways that this perspective on human nature can be used for… and I know that I can create something that people, other than you ‘Readers-with-minds-like-steel-traps and hearts-like-good-natured-bears’ can read and understand and be glad you bought the book.

ok…guess I am done:

  • complaining ( did you know that most clarks don’t believe that they complain…even when we do?)
  • rambling on (the clark in me enjoys the end product of a Post like this, but hates the thought of how….odd it reads)  (the roger in me  probably is basking in the sense of heart-feltedness this may ‘read…) (the scott?  don’t ask lol)
  • seeing my thoughts ‘on paper’
  • being uncomfortable about not being able to write a Post, I will now proceed to be uncomfortable about the Reader response lol

Enough… maybe  video tomorrow!

…stay tuned yo

This is the Doctrine’s contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful bloghop.

The Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) is a long-running, widely-read, prolific-in-writer-participation grat ‘hop. Started in 1948 by a Nova Scottian expatriate, the TToT has been translated in numerous machine languages and not-a-few human dialects.

You should try it. Writing a post and submitting for inclusion. It’s fun and benficial.

RePrint Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Despite Mondays, of late being days when we reprint old posts as jumping-off points, we’ve never been at a loss for inspiration or topic or ideas whenever we sit down at the keyboard of our solid-state Electrola. This a direct product due entirely to the nature and reason of the Wakefield Doctrine itself.

… lets state the statement that you, if a New Reader, should latch onto at your earliest convenience:

‘...the primary benefit of employing the perspective that is afforded by the Doctrine is to better appreciate how we relate ourselves to the world around us and the people who make it up.’

Of course, this represents more the ‘Why’ as opposed to the ‘What’ of our little blog.

(ProTip: the coolest thing about the followers/readership of the Wakefield Doctrine is that they/it  are, for the most part, clarks. No, we amend that statement! The cool thing is that we draw and attract scotts and rogers who are hobbled/burdened (lol… predominant worldview joke) with a significant clarklike secondary aspect.

No!  Wait… the actual coolest thing is there are Readers of this blog, there is a readership that has endured since we started writing this thing.

Where is the time going?!@?

lets find something that turns up when we search ‘demographic’ and ‘readership’:

quick morning Post the Wakefield Doctrine (“…you do know that Thursday is the secret Friday of the Workweek, right?”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)Rapier and Cape

Good discussion in the Comments section, of late. And the Official Doctrine answers are: yes, yes, no, well, if you mean with clothes on, no, are you out of your fuckin mind, yes, yes (and lastly), I’m sorry, you must be at the wrong blog, I think the one you want is over at http://www.ammobroads’nbeer.com … or maybe you need to stop at http://www.crocketingcondomssayingIloveyouwithtwopointysticks.com

alright, now that I have that out of my system. lets get down to the basics:

the demographic of Readers here is beginning to show a trend to the scottian, a surprising but welcome development. the core Readership remains (female) clarks (and possibly male clarks, but they choose to remain unidentified… for reasons still not understood.) I suspect I know why, of course, but I will refrain from saying what I think (well, duh!).

Well, if that’s the case, then clearly we need to address our scottian Readers!

To begin with, we all know that you have to decide for yourself which of the three worldviews is your predominant, in other words are you a scott or a roger or a clark. This Rule was originally intended to prevent Readers from getting all….rogerian on new Readers, like  “well, look at the new clarklike females! woo hoo  hey girl you want to come over and watch some Ken Burns documentaries sometime?”  The Rule still obtains, it is not only for each of us to decide which personal reality we are in, but it is also part of the process of Learning the Doctrine.  However….

…seeing how we’re talking about our scottian Readers, this Rule is not quite so necessary. lol  not that you can’t make scotts do things, but ‘needing to be protected from rogers‘??!!   not so much.

OK enough of the intro. Lets talk about scotts:

  • mercurial  as our friends over at Free Miriam say:  “…characterized by rapid and unpredictable changeableness of mood”
  • natural leaders… this is an often overemphasized quality. the reason why scotts are considered good, natural leaders is because they are not given to ambiguity, they make a decision, done! people believe that ‘certainty equals correct choice’… god bless ’em.
  • scotts act, clarks think, rogers feel
  • confident (see: ‘natural leaders’)  (there’s an old saying at the Doctrine: ‘scotts are often wrong, but they are never un-certain’)
  •  (keeping the ‘everyone does everything at one time or another’ Rule in mind): scotts make excellent surgeons but not good physicians, cops but not firefighters, madams but not working girls, Teachers of the very young or the hormonally be-sotted (pre-school or high school, of course), a rough carpenter but not a finish carpenter, a Defense Attorney but not Prosecutor, a soldier but not a politician
  • the social identity of the scott is the pack, as a predator, scotts prefer to work alone but will, should circumstances dictate, gather with other scotts for a common (albeit) temporary purpose
  • you can spot the scott in any social gathering, they will ‘work the room’… the scott will challenge everyone ‘in the room’, literally (in the case of male scotts) pushing them on the shoulder or figuratively as often the case with scottian women
  • (at a party): the male scott will have a circle of people around him and he will be telling one funny joke after another, becoming more and more outrageous with each joke, the female scott will have a circle of male attendees, accreting like layers of coral… mostly rogers, of course  they will have a clarklike female friend nearby. this friend will not be a part of her immediate dynamic, rather she (the female clark) is used to shed the rogers and re-assure the scott that there is something that she has not thought/said/done a thousand times before… she makes the rogers laugh, her clarklike friend makes her laugh…. (sort of a Le Trou Normand  in a social sense of the word).

Ok that’s it for today

Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Lets get ourselfs an old ‘Monday’ Doctrine post! After all, Monday is one of the rogerian days of the week (when they finally decide to talk to anyone*)

M. -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘sure, we all would like a hint how to use this Doctrine on the first day of the w. week’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Given that all you Readers are sitting in one of three worldviews as you read today’s Post, it’s only right that I make it clear which worldview I am talking about when I present a hint, isn’t it?

Well, actually no. It’s only right in the context of one of you. But that’s not important right now. Right at this moment, most of you Readers are at the start of your Monday, so on with the Doctrine hints:

  • clarks will be the ones most likely to get up early, followed by rogers and, (yeah, maybe a little surprising)…scotts are the last to rise and shine
  • clarks will be remarkably (and suspiciously) optimistic and talkative
  • rogers will not
  • scotts (who are still in bed) will begin to see that getting the other person back into bed is the best approach for everyone involved ( by ‘everyone’ we mean, of course, the scott)
  • clarks will look forward to the day the way that a person with a horrible toothache will look forward to going to the dentist
  • rogers will look forward to their day…in detail  with no need to share or express their concerns for the upcoming day
  • scotts will still be in bed
  • clarks sometimes feel anxiety about ‘the start of the day’  not necessarily the events that they anticipate happening, but rather, the point at which forward momentum begins
  • rogers will become more animated and energetic, but unless the other person is also in the same line of work, this brightening view of the coming day will remain inside their heads
  • scotts will (finally) get going… the least amount of preparation for the day of the three (consistent with their roles in the work day)
  • clarks and breakfast?  what, are you insane?!?!
  • rogers and breakfast?  well, we always have (fill in the blank precisely, please)
  • scotts and breakfast?  yeah sure… come on!  lets get going!!

That accounts for ‘our’ morning. I have every intention of returning to this here Post here at noon today and provide us with a look at the tipping point of the first day of the work week.  Unless you have a coment.

* who said that? You are absolutely correct! rogers are very, not, morning people. Care to guess who is? No, this a closed answer book quiz. You’ll know which question you answered correctly and which incorrectly.

Genuine lol here, Readers! only on my last ‘edit’ did I realize that, in my choice of reprint, I made my challenge moot.

This happens more often that one might think. Or, perhaps not. Mostly fun in writing fiction. I’ve seen it in my own efforts when, further into a story, longer than Six Sentence stories, a connection or interconnection that I was not consciously aware of setting up. This is kinda that…fun.

New Readers? what they (the quizzirini) do with the information on their test answers and test scores will: a) tell you everything about which of the three predominant worldviews (aka personality types) they are and 2) which are morning, not morning and what-the$^*&^ time is it. Are they clarks(Outsiders) or scotts(Predators) or rogers(Herd Members)?

to that you may submit your answers as you are inclined.

the reprint?

oh yeah… just getting in the academic aspect of the three worldviews. Remind us to make that the topic tomorrow. (ed. nah. think we covered that in the reprint. We repeat: lol)

Have novel day.

Re-Print Tewsdae -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

First off, let us say, ‘Hey, this (reprint) it was written way back in, like only second-and-a-half year of writing this (or any!) blog’.

Second off, ‘We stand by the story.’

Third thing: ‘And that is the value of learning and applying the principles of our little personality theory’.

See, the thing is, we’re all experiencing the world around us and the people who make it up in one of three characteristic relationships:

  1. as the Outsider(clarks) relate themselves, apart from, non-definably different, and driven to learn what everyone else appears to know…while remaining (mostly) un-noticed
  2. the Predator(scotts) range the open world, chasing prey and being chased, living the day as much as possible with as little doubt or reservation (as possible)
  3. the Herd Member(rogers) while knowing that all they is experience is good and sufficient, there is a need to learn the Best Way and to share that at as many others as possible.

We act and react appropriate to the world we live in.

So to the ‘lesson’ at the top of this post.

As a clark, I would normally, (sans Doctrine), look at the old post and, while smiling in fond recollection of actually writing and posting it, cringe at the feeling, (you know, the tightening of the shoulders that comes when you realize others are watching), that maybe it was a little over the top, too childishly emotive and unsophisticated. The thought comes, ‘You’ve gotten so much better at your writing in the intervening 13 year… maybe keep looking for a different reprint’.

But the Doctrine, taken to heart, reminds me that there are other clarks in the world who would feel the same in a similiar situation. And, (the Doctrine), reminds us that, despite there being only ‘one actual reality’ I am heir to ‘the other two’. I then benefit by my reading and learning about the world (the relationship, if you will) the Predator and the Herd Member experience. How, if they were to come across an old post, they would experience it differently.

Outa time…. too bad, ’cause we were just about to tie it all together! oh well, guess you gotta keep readin’ and learnin’ and such

St Valentine was he a roger or was he a clark, the Wakefield Doctrine deals with the important questions of the day

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )( psst!  yeah, you!  anyone looking?  I’m supposed to be working on the Wakefield Doctrine book… I promised that I would stop with the nearly every day Posts so that I could apply what little energy I have to putting content down on paper. Long story, that’s not important now… what is important is today is Valentine’s Day!  And there is not a single person out there who writes a blog that can resist the obvious appeal of such a… a contrived, culturally supported, private interest initiated “holiday” as Valentine’s Day.  So a quick, totally self-indulgent Post and then back to work… if Ms. AKH or Molly asks… tell them you haven’t seen me….)

St Valentines is the worst, most contrived and cynical, gyno-centric guy-bait(ing), toy-with-the-emotions-of-innocent-bystanders, holiday on the whole damn calendar.  Of course we are all familiar with the origin of the holiday and the internet is positively turgid with countless blogs, and stories and articles that tell us all about Hallmark and the candy industry and the rest of the sordid tale of this day in February. I will not try to compete with these other more skilled and capable Commentators ( and -torinis), as I do not have the time or the ‘writing chops’ to do such a ripe topic justice. Instead, let me tell you about my most lasting memory of Valentines Day.

Third grade, parochial school (St. Imelda*) and a classroom of 25 students. The boys were required to wear blue shirts and blue ties with OLM printed on the front, fortunately ‘clip-on ties’ had been invented by this time, so easy-peasy; the girls wore the catholic school uniform, i.e. plaid skirts white shirt, socks.  damn, little did I realize at that pre-pubescent time of my life how potent that little Roman Catholic Church fashion dictates would become for me and countless other men at a later stage of life.  (In fact, I am feeling the tug on the cynical side of my writing-self, there is something about the whole, church-sexual-abuse-dress-the-children in outfits destined to become so hawt… lol sorry, again I lack the time or the writing skill to do justice to a topic like this… back to the story.)
So with much fanfare, Valentine’s Day arrives and we  9  year old boys and girls are told that in the afternoon, before the end of the school day, we would have time to deliver our Valentine cards to each other. ( The day before we spent ‘Art Period’ making little baskets out of construction paper and taping them to the front of our desks. These would serve as ‘mailboxes’ for the cards we would receive the next day).
The thing was, the horrible twist to this introduction to the world of love, relationships and rejection was that, the time when class stopped and we were allowed to get up and deliver our little cards was not the end of the school day! It was right after lunch… and it lasted 15 or 20 minutes…as in ‘ now return to your desks and we will continue with the afternoon’ classes’. To sit for 90 minutes staring at the contents of the container on the front of my desk… I will leave it to the Reader to decide the emotional landscape of that afternoon on a February 14th.

Anyone out there not comfortable with finishing the story, or satisfied with their conclusion of this little tale, write us a Comment! Regular Readers know that the rogers gave the biggest cards, the scotts received the most cards and the clarks delivered the most cards….secretly without the recipient ever knowing who the really fun card came from…

Now I better get back to work, before I get in trouble.

*who totally twisted my life… don’t ask
