Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
We have (both) Lisa and Pat to thank for today’s subtitle (and Fred and Ginger’s music vid). Thanks, guys.
First the Wakefield Doctrine, then the link to Chapter 2
the Wakefield Doctrine is intended for use as an additional perspective on life, reality and how best to deal with the rude checkout girl, the overbearing school guidance counselor, pig-headed spouse or the girl (or boy) of your dreams.
Now, the Doctrine is many things, including a way to predict the behavior of the people in our lives. To demonstrate: (assuming a proper attention*) the clark will read that as the Wakefield Doctrine will let them predict the future, the scott will read that as being able to have more fun surprising the people around them and roger will hear that prediction of the behavior of the people around them and, at least initially, will decide that they don’t need to know how a person will act in the future, as long as they know how they reacted in the past.
Blogdominion Chapter 2 is live and available for your reading and voting pleasure. I invite comments, seeing how I am writing this story with only the slightest idea of what happens next. (For the present, we get to know all the main characters better and we know that bad things are going to happen, now that Unit 17 is self-publishing… but there is still the matter of what Sister Margaret Ryan finds is the problem at St Emily’s School in Chicago and how well Tom Fearing makes out (on his blog! it’s not that kind of story…. unless, of course you want that kind of story) and there’s the matter of Mai and her friend…
Yes, you’re reading this correctly! A Post in less than 500 words. Gotta save ’em for the Serial.
Now that I say that, I’ve been meaning to ask my writing-inclined friends the question about how many words you have available. Let’s rephrase that: on any given day, do you have the feeling that there are only so many words available to your writing efforts and, (as a follow-up) do you find that it is not specific words, but the act of writing? Example: If I did not spend the time and energy to write this Post, would I have more to put into the next Chapter of Blogdominion.
Damn! getting near 500… better quit while I’m ahead.
*not such a monolithic concept here, people. ‘proper attention’ is manifested differently in the personal reality of clarks, scotts and rogers. While a discussion of ‘the Everything Rule’, vis-à-vis ‘proper attention’ is beyond the scope of this post, allow me to say:
- clark: re-read every word
- scott: get back here and finish reading
- roger… would it kill you to not pretend to be un-interested, this once? I promise no one is watching
