a bloghop? the Wakefield Doctrine ‘Life vidiotic’ (a bloghop at 24p)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

"…exactly like this, but different."

“…exactly like this, but different.”

In the course of one of our Friday Night vid chats*, I mentioned that I thought a bloghop based on video Posts might be fun. As Readers know, I use video for maybe one Post every 10 days to 2 weeks, mostly as a way to give myself a day off from type-type, typing these here Post’s here. Well,… a lively discussion ensued. I recall (or choose to recall), that everyone thought it was a great idea, but there was a wide range of opinion as to how (a video Post) should be presented, in a video blog hop. We all agreed that they (the individual vid Posts of participating bloggers) would need to be short. All of us who have worked in this medium (lol  “…look at the giant beret on Brad!”), have learned that attention span is more than fleeting and no one, among the participants, believed that anything more than 3 minutes wouldn’t be a waste of ‘film’.

In fact, most of the ‘fun’ of the discussion (of length) focused on how short the video should be… the primary advocates of very short vids, were, I believe Kristi and Starr.  I got a sense of agreement with my position, ( i.e.  ‘short is good, but long(er) is not bad’), from zoe and Tamara and Christine. Lizzi was reserving judgement as would any good co-host.

So here is my contribution to the First Annual Wakefield Doctrine bloghop, ‘the View idiotic’.  Astute Readers and experienced blog-hoppers will notice that I don’t seem to have any mechanism for anyone (else) to participate in this ‘hop. Anyone with experience in such matters, who would care to make suggestion, I welcome any input. (I did try…sorta, the linky app that Lizzi uses, but got the impression it is designed exclusively for blogger blogs…could be wrong.)

The really important feedback is,  ‘is there anything to this idea that is appealing enough to cause people to do a vid post and send it in?’

Doctrine Tip: we all live in one of three characteristic personal realities, aka worldview. And it is because we are in a reality that has a certain characteristic (that of the Outsider, the Predator or the Herd Member) from a very early age and have to develop coping strategies and ways of negotiating life that is geared to the characteristics (of the worldview we are in) that we have ‘personality types’ that we call being a clark or a scott or a roger.  Here: if I grew up in the worldview of a Predator then I would most likely not be typing this Post… I would be out there eating/defecating/reproducing or… back here sleeping, simply because the challenges presented by the worldview of the Predator (a scott) required action, aggressiveness, minimal reflection on the subjective… scotts act!  same for  clarks and rogers   we (the three personality types) represent the best effort to cope with the world that we find ourselves in… not perfect not inappropriate, just the best based on the conditions we face.   ¿comprende?

of clarks and clarks the Wakefield Doctrine “no, as a matter of fact, that doesn’t help!) (well, a little (but what the hell! ok…this time maybe”

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

"jeez, I really thought I was starting to understand this blog, then this!"

“jeez, I really thought I was starting to understand this blog, now this!”

Apologies, in advance, to all Readers with a predominant scottian or rogerian worldview, (to paraphrase Solozzo to McClusky: ‘I’m going to speak clark to Kristi’). Today’s Post will not make a lot of sense. As a matter of fact, if you persist in reading, you scotts  will become angry and  rogers(?)…well, you will become upset, in a manner that seems like impatience, but is actually genuine concern. But, hey, what can I say?

Alert Reader Kristi writes:

I did the lame Clark Monday today, ………………………….. a school phone call…an apology… (….I’d rather have slept) to then Tucker’s bus being in a minor (everybody is fine) accident on the way to school…I did the total just read thing, did not go into work even though I was planning on it…and had to actually lay down for 20 minutes when today caught up with me, in the worst of ways. Fuck. I’m such a Clark. I love it but yeah.

Good call on posting all of the tittie pics because even I was like WTF until I maybe (I think I hope) got it. Are you saying we got uglier? ……..! YIKES. ALSO HOLY FUCK I just realized I never sent you the TSHIRT photo because…… made me look bad in the photo. hang On. I’m going to find it anyway. We were at Outer Banks, for Tucker’s bday….

It will have to be another day. I…sigh…

Well, thank you Kristi!

…thank you Kristi, for your Comment. We clarks have the ability to recognize in other clarks, things and qualities and such that we are not as quick to see in ourselves. Which is not so bad, as, even when we do, (recognize it in ourselves), we’re all like, ‘yeah, but that’s different, what are ya gonna do…no, I can handle it’.  clarks have this astonishing quality of  ‘selflessness’ that borders on the pathological. seriously. (Seeing how, if you’re still reading this, you already know about clarks and the Wakefield Doctrine, I can simply skip the next 432 words about how we take pride in our capacity to endure the onslaught of self-criticism and despair, pretty much because we think that, even though we would rather not feel like the worst life form on the planet, the one thing worse than (feeling like the worst life form on the planet), is to have everyone around us point and say, ‘hey!! don’t feel bad just because you’re the worst life form that has ever been on the planet!! we  knew that all along and have just been tolerating you!’)

ya know?

(why  yes! I do agree with a helping approach like the above, it’s only a matter of time before the world beats a path to your doorstep, clark!  with pitchforks, torches and totally justified outrage.  lol)

hey kristi. the best thing about this Doctrine thing these days is your comment today. I see a person loved and respected, someone who does good for family and friends and even though these words will sound… (like that), I know that you are a clark and I am a clark and you will manage to get through this so, when the time comes for me to feel as you did yesterday (and it will) I have a reason to hope.

Monday the Wakefield Doctrine ‘the tool for self-improving oneself, nothing more and nothing less’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

"As an unmuddied lake.... As clear as an azure sky of deepest summer."

“As an unmuddied lake…. As clear as an azure sky of deepest summer.”

For those of us fortunate enough to have a weekend, by which I mean, one or two days of self-scheduling, it is now time to re-set. (As recently stated), the workweek days are different. They pretty much belong to another. Another, less light-hearted way to express that is, a large majority of us are owned by something other than ourselves for the period of our lives designated: Monday through Friday. In most cases it is servitude by choice and there is a benefit to be enjoyed. So, as we begin our Monday, lets just remember:

  • clarks: relax, all that you feel improved for you in the previous two days is not negated, does not go away and you are still the person that you saw (and, between you and me, actually thought you might not mind being) doing things Friday night through Sunday night, though you may feel the outsiderness come over you as you put on the protective coloration, the better to deal with bosses, superiors, unfriendly teachers, difficult administrators, unruly pre-schoolers and clients who don’t seem to appreciate how much a well-liked and respected person you seem to recall being for parts of the last 2.5 days
  • scotts: focus, it is not about how much you can do, it is not about proving that you are able to get along with your co-workers, the librarian who sent you a friendly reminder for the DVDs that you borrowed, the teachers who don’t seem to get that you are not always causing trouble, the manager who seems to think that all you want to do is screw around even though he does not have a quota or a peer review in the next 2 weeks
  • rogers: get over yourselves, sure… you love getting back to work and you know that even though there are people who screw up, seemingly on purpose, they do not need you to tell them how much they could improve, or how great your weekend was, or how if they were to try a little harder they might get asked out more, or how their children really need a little extra attention

The Wakefield Doctrine is a tool. It is, in fact, simply a perspective on behavior and the people in our our lives. It does not say what to do (for a better life). It does not say what to think. It does not even tell you how to make the other person: stop picking on you, leave you alone, be more reasonable, appreciate all you do for the family, understand that you really are trying, get it into their heads that you’re not interested in them that way, shut the fuck up, learn from their mistakes, stop self-sabotaging themselves, keep their holier-than-thou opinions to themselves. It does none of these things.

The Wakefield Doctrine is a way to understand the behavior of the people in our lives. It helps us to see the world as the other person is experiencing it. It allows us to infer how the people in our lives are relating themselves to the world around them. (By doing so), it allows us to know more about them than they know about themselves. And it, the Doctrine, not the people, allows us to change our behavior in ways that will enhance and improve our lives.

“…Jane his wife” the Wakefield Doctrine ‘where life is a metaphorical allegory’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

"…come on, clark, it's not like anyone is actually going to read this….no one real, at least

“…come on, clark, it’s not like anyone is actually going to read this….no one real, at least

rogers/ scotts? please stop read until we call you back, this is strictly for clarks….

(…I mean it, scott!)

I guess I need to take my own advice, at least every now and then. I’m running into a brick wall… made of a sticky viscous material that pulls me in, rather than allowing me to be decently knocked-out, over on the side of the road, to wake up a little later, bruised but amnesia-ed of the sequence leading to the aforementioned brick wall/clark interaction. I am grateful that this is not a full-on, pulled-by-the-ankles under the bed/into the storm drain event, but it is tiring, discouraging and/or other unpleasant enough as it is.

But we have the Wakefield Doctrine to serve as a, carefully labeled (in small, slightly militaristic block lettering), tent that says: screw it, that voice and that anxiety is not unique, the others have heard the same voice and by that fact, it loses the Power of: ‘no-one-can-hear-me-but-you-and-I-need-to-tell-you-something-about-yourself-that-you-may-not-want-to-hear’ Voice.  And, because of the Doctrine,  I can hear the other clarks thinking/saying ‘damn!’ or ‘yeah, that fuckin’ voice’… or ‘hey, clark, not to worry, we’ll throw the guest’s coats over you…crawl out and join us when you’re ready’

(thanks, guys… that is so much better than: ‘hey, cheer up’ or ‘you know, you should try positive thinking‘ or the worst of all,  ‘I think you should grow up and act your age,  you have so much going for you’…. guess I should call those scotts and rogers back)

Tonight! Tonight …. y’all know what day today is, right?    Tonight is Friday, so that can mean only one thing it’s

‘the Wakefield Doctrine presents, ‘the Awesome Bloggers VidChat (doncherknow)’!!

You totally have to join  Lizzi (‘Jane’) and Michelle (‘Judy’)  for an hour (or two) of repartee, conversation, useful advice, dirty jokes and a celebration of  ‘the Life 21st Century-istically’   (with Chat ‘regulars’ zoe and Denise … and Kristi Campbell as ‘the Kristi’

new Post the Wakefield Doctrine (sometimes, it’s better to write although you have nothing to say, than (to) have something to say and not be able to write it) (ya know?)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

flightring

This blogging is a funny thing. Not ‘ha ha’ funny, but weird, am-I-really-that-caught-up-in-this-pastime, funny. Take this morning….please! (barump bump). I have been Posting pretty much daily for the few weeks, with the occasional day off, so this morning I needed to get a Post out, or it would have been two days without a Doctrine post.  So I got up early (around 3:30) and sat down at the computorala and… nothin. Not an idea, not a thought, and not even a feeling like I wanted to write.

You want to hear something weird? Well, when I get stalled (writingistically speaking), I often go out in search of photos/images to add to the Post and sometimes I come across an image (or photo) that sparks… gets my mind going. Well, this morning I was doing just that, except I stopped at a blog to read, (not something I do all that often), and came across a line that made me think, ‘huh! yeah!’.  (The source is a blog about a movie, I think… and the Post is about the making of Alien). I trust sticking the url (of the page) of the source will provide sufficient attribution. First the quote:

Nobody respects you later for having been a nice guy and given up, you have to get what you want now, because you’re going to wear what you got. You can be very unpopular on the root, but if you’re right, all is forgiven.”   (http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/community/forums/topic/13655)

So, the question you have is, ‘hey! love the quote, why does this make you feel you now have something to say?’

Glad you asked! (lol)  As a clark, I totally identify with what I think the author is cautioning against. (yes, I did not say that I identified with the statement, per se.) Such is the nature of the clarklike worldview. We know so much and yet it is all, both the good things (to know) and the bad things (to know)  at an arm’s length with us clarks. Yesterday I did a video Post and I tried to express this aspect of the clarklike worldview, the moment when we become clarks, and how, at the moment we do, we lock ourselves in and, …and! to further ‘seal the deal’, we seize upon a solution (a false solution) that not only will not produce the results that we believe it will, it, (this solution), will be the driving force in our expression of our ‘personality type’.

I’ll be back later in the morning. Maybe I’ll try the video thing again.

(OK here is the video… )
