clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 57 clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 57

clarks(!) by their ‘smiles’ you will know them… the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

Before we get into this short Post with the  intriguing Title, a caveat to new Readers.
The Wakefield Doctrine is 2 parts art ( or as we say in the Wakefield part of the world, ‘ahht’)  and 1 part science. The ‘science part’ is pretty straight-forward:

we are all born with the capability of seeing the world/experiencing reality in three distinct and characteristic ways. At some point in early childhood we settle on one worldview and become what we call: clarks, scotts and rogers. Throughout our lives we experience the world with the biases, pre-conjecture and implications of this one view, we call this being a clark, acting like a scott and feeling like a roger. We all retain the capacity to see the world as the other two personality types do, if we try, if we have enough ‘flexible intelligence’, a strong enough clarklike side.  Everything in the Doctrine follows from this. The Wakefield Doctrine, as it describes personality is gender and culture and age neutral. It is about the world that we perceive, not a list of genetic traits, parental training  that accounts for our behavior.  That is the science.

As to the art…

…the art (of the Doctrine) is found in the act of detecting small, characteristic expressions (physical, mental and emotional) of the other person.  …the art of the Doctrine is putting yourself in the other person’s shoes and trying to see the world as they see it.  …the art of the Doctrine is standing in their shoes, imagining you are a (clark or scott or a roger) and seeing if their behavior makes sense. …the art of the Doctrine is to do this with all three types in different situations until you see the world as the other person sees it.

…as to ‘the smile of the clark‘?  That is where the art creates the fun.  Ever see a person who smiles by compressing their lips and looks at you (either) through the corners of their eyes or ‘up through the top’ of their eyes?  Chances are you are looking at a clark.
…now look at that person’s posture.  Bad, is it?  Rounded shoulders,  slight hunch around the neck?,  a ‘looseness’ around the hips as if ready to make a run for it?  Chances are increasing that you are looking at a clark.
(now here is the fun part…the art part…) Look at the music video below at the bottom of this Post.  Albert Lee is the guy with the white/grey hair behind and to the right of Vince Gill. He is obviously having the time of his life, his smile… his whole face is smiling…
Albert is a clark.

(I know, I know)   “what the hell!! you said they are furtive and scared looking. You just told us clarks smile by compressing their lips and look like they are ready to run for it!! You said that, I have it in writing!!

Thats the fun. The Wakefield Doctrine is like that.  There are guidelines and there are even rules, heck we even have Core Principles! But as a practitioner,

  • you will be the one to observe the other person
  • you will be the one to ‘try out’ the ways that the other person might be seeing the world
  • you will be the one who gets ‘a feeling’ they might be a clark or a scott or a roger
  • you will be the one who will tell another person, “hey look at this…does this seem rogerian or just a scott on an off day?”
  • …and you will be the only one to decide, knowing that you cannot break the Doctrine and that the other person will still be the clark or the scott or the roger that they are, whether you ‘get it right’ or not

Like we said….this is fun!

Program Note:

We will have Molly ( aka Seven Ravens at ‘the Facebook’) as our guest for tomorrow’s Video Friday!  We will cover a wide assortment of topics and subject matter. So if you have a question (for Molly or the Doctrine ) write us a Comment and we will include it in our interview. (Provided, of course, the Comment shows up before we ‘go on air’)

and two if by Sea…”many more of them live next door”, the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

‘ello!!   woy if in’t owr  newst fren  Nell!!

All the  Progenitors, DownSprings and FOTD would like you to join us in welcoming our newest hat-wearing Friend, Nell Rose who, as I am sure you inferred from our clever patois, is from England….or London…maybe better to just  make that ‘the UK”

We first met Nell at a writing place called Hub Pages where we maintain a small presence. There we wrote a few articles about the Doctrine (of course) and a couple of stories about Ola and Bella and Una (fun!), but mostly we (are over there) to read and learn about how real blog writers work. Needless to say, it was not very long after arriving and posting some articles, that we ran into Nell.  In retrospect this should come as no surprise, as Nell has written Posts ( they call them ‘Hubs’ over there) on such an incredibly diverse  range of subjects that they had to discover a new letter in the alphabet* to categorize her writing.  Combining  an ‘ease of style’, that totally hooks you from the opening line, along with encyclopedic subject knowledge,  our first thought was, “damn! we have got to get this person to read about the Wakefield Doctrine”. Being the gracious life-form that she is, Nell  read a couple of our ‘Hubs’  about the ole theory of clarks, scotts and rogers and,  well…  we can surely say that Nell took to the Doctrine like…a….well, like a clark!  (Not surprisingly) she immediately ‘got it’, could extrapolate outwards, thought it was fun and (she) resisted the notion of taking a photo of herself with a hat (on her damn head) which, of course, made the choice of hat to send her pretty darn easy!

Nell is also on ‘the Facebook’ too, so next time you are in a totally rogerian mood, in need of  the comforting lowing of the herd….or your scottian aspect is feeling a bit….peckish, go on over and say ‘Hidy’.

Welcome, Nell

(So whats the deal with the preponderance of clarks? Should we be concerned? Where the hell are the scotts and rogers? …alright a few q..q.quick bullet points about the Doctrine then out….)

  • clarks have a ‘creative drive’ that parallels the predatory/hunt instinct of the scotts and the organising/traditionalizing needs of the rogers
  • clarks believe that they do not want to be the center of attention but will not…(on a level with the need to breathe)… not tolerate being ignored
  • clarks suspect that they are secretly scotts and wish they could be rogers
  • for most clarks, life is a race between living in fear and creating something that puts them beyond the reach (of fear)
  • stick that in your metaphorical, briarwood-smoking, fireplace-sitting, book-writing pipe….roger

Okay some (borrowed) music and have a chipper day wot?

*thanks to George Carlin for that (the original joke) was to the effect that, “scientist have reported discovering a new number, somewhere between 6 and 7 and are calling it ‘biel’

Google announces ban on ‘Gag Titles’ for all blog Posts beginning tomorrow! the Wakefield Doctrine renounces ‘all hyperbole, yo’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ).

Seeing how everyone reading this has a firm grasp on the Core Principles1 of the Wakefield Doctrine, we should just proceed to the ‘practical application’ discussion, or as the late Lou Collins would have referred to it as, ‘the beauty part’.

So keep this in mind today. Warning!!  This business of different realities? The following may apply:

  • if you are a clark… yeah, like we’re telling you something you didn’t totally already know
  • if you are a scott… nah, nothing you need worry ’bout  except it might convince you to sit in the back of the break room, a little while after the others have left
  • if you are a roger… you know, you are right! This separate reality thing totally suits you and once the other two gets the message, you will (finally!)  be allowed to get things more…organised!

We are bringing this to our Reader’s attention simply because we are getting more and more feedback, mostly good and some not so good. For example:

Hey! this Doctrine is fuckin great!! tell us again about how them rogers is so lame that they stand around like that and wear hats!!

I read and then I re-read your blog and I am forced to say that it simply does not hold together nor does it make sense. Further when you try to apply it to people, it does not hold together nor does it make sense. I think that you are wrong and should simply accept that you have nothing to say of any value and that your premise is flawed. Keep up the good work :)

Shit. I hate this fuckin job. I hate they way they look at me, you know what I mean!! ( I meant ‘I mean?’) I think that you have a part of a piece of something that is only lacking just a little, but if I could just get a little more mome…memnu….energy I’d fuckin show them…damn! I hate this shit… (sorry about the language (but) sometimes I get soo) later, dude (dudettes) lol

1) Coreus Principalius

  • all are born with the potential to see the world as a clark or a scott or a roger
  • at an early childhood age, one (of the three) worldview becomes dominant
  • when we say worldview-1, we totally mean it, like the damn reality that each sees is totally real
  • we all retain the capacity to see the world as does the other two, but mostly we don’t
  • the Wakefield Doctrine is gender, culture and age neutral

-1) head note*: some people talk about worldviews of clarks, and scotts and rogers as if  it is how they choose to see the world. That is so totally wrong that I can’t express it. When we use the word worldviews,  we are talking about individual realities. (  “hey someone lock that door, the scotts are getting spooked by the talk of reality” ), but we are talking about reality. Nothing mystical (well, maybe a teensy bit metaphysical). The thing is, none of this Wakefield Doctrine thing works if you are not willing to accept the fact that, in some cases/situations/at times people experience different realities. ( No, nothing cool,  like talking refrigerators or that our fingers have eyes (hidden under the fingernails, of course!) or weird shit like that. But when we say that a roger sees that world as a herd animal or that a scott lives in a reality that is based on a predator-prey paradigm, we mean just that. They are not making it up!
As a matter of  fact, were it not for the Wakefield Doctrine, no one would realise that a scott at a dinner party is simply not going to stay seated any longer than totally necessary and that a roger put in charge of office supplies will re-create medieval European culture. Why? Because that is the way the world is to them.

Plain to See, Simple to Understand, Easy to Apply…the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

Listen, before we go any further…I need one of you Readers to do me a favor. Thursday is here already and I got nothing for Video Friday!  Some questions (written as Comments or just email me here) would really help me out here, any topic any format…you ask the question and I will answer it live on the video to be played on (this) Friday’s Video Post.  There are almost no questions that are not answerable, so write us with your queries. For a format, I will read the question ( and I will identify the questioner by the name on the Comment or email, so if you want to remain anonymous, leave your name out. Pretty simple, isn’t it?)
                         hey,  thanks (in advance)!

Speaking of improvements…did you notice the 3 new Sections on the Main Page?  Below this Post, in the center on the ‘landing page’ you will see new sections: What (is the Wakefield Doctrine), How (do I use it) and Why (is there a Wakefield Doctrine). Even though we do have an ‘About’ page on the Doctrine, lately we are getting more ‘requests’ from Readers to make the Wakefield Doctrine blog more…’Reader-friendly’  …more direct and instructionational,  even though all the information is there…well, you know how rogers can be!  In any event, there are 3 sections that will have concise, direct and useful information on the Doctrine and how to get the most from your visit to our little blog.  Speaking of growing in popularity, if you have any suggestions as to the information, FAQ, instructions that we should include in these new sections, give us a shout! Will be happy to accommodate*

Hey! New Readers!!   Here’s how it goes with the Wakefield Doctrine site:  those new sections? … they will answer your immediate questions.  The Posts? …the Posts should be thought of as a continuing conversation about the Doctrine, the blog and things in general.  Now, a clark would ‘get’ the Doctrine  just from reading the Posts…a scott could, but is too impatient and doesn’t really care all that much about ‘getting the details’ and a roger?  wellll they would most likely object to the whole layout of the blog,  simply because it is not tidy enough and they do not see a line gathering at the door.

Speaking of doors and lines and  rogers!!  We all know how they love restaurants, but if you need to find a bunch of rogers in a total hurry, drive around your area on a Sunday morning and look for the (physically) smallest restaurant with the longest line extending out the door.  There be your rogers!  Serially, I have witnessed little diners, that clearly have a capacity of 16 food-eaters and there is a line 30 people long. What the hell!  And you know they are rogers, cause (of the people standing in line) they are very small groups, mostly couples with an occasional 3rd person** and they are keeping to themselves while standing in line. ( Actually they are surreptitiously judging the dress and demeanor of their fellow rogers).  Of course, you would know if there were a scott among them by the surreptitious stares of the male rogers and the fawning expressions of the female rogers.

So let us know you are out there. If you have information that will be helpful to include in our new sections, write a Comment and we will convert it to content (even give you credit for the info/insight!).

Hey!! don’t forget the Questions for tomorrow’s Video Friday!  Come on…the clock is ticking.

* after all, I am a clark  (ha ha)
** a spare clark, of course!!

more necessary than you think, impossible to ignore, more popular than it should be, its the personality tool of the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

The Wakefield Doctrine is a tool that is easy to learn to use.  The theory of clarks, scotts and rogers is a fun way to look at the way the people in your life act and behave. The Doctrine is a tool that can be a huge help in changing the things about yourself that you have come to believe should be changed. The WD is a group of people with a common interest who share a way of  knowing about human personality (and) the interactions between different people.

Because of the Wakefield Doctrine and this blog: clarks will come to understand that they are not as different from scotts and from rogers as they sometimes think;  because of the Wakefield Doctrine and this blog: scotts will see for themselves that the world is less difficult and challenging and (that) not everyone is a threat; because of the Wakefield Doctrine and this blog: rogers will know that it does not matter whether they understand the reasons for the actions of others and (that) people who are different can be ignored without fear.

We are not being overly lyrical or mystical or theoretical or controversial with today’s Post. Sometimes it helps to just let passing thoughts see the light of day.
The Doctrine is beginning to catch on with people who had not heard the term: Wakefield Doctrine. We are getting emails from people who, after reading these pages are asking questions.
Questions about the value and the validity of the Doctrine.

In order to get the most out of today’s  little Post,  please do the following:

  • finish reading this Post before moving on*
  • know that everyone has the qualities of all three personality types, the idea is that one (of the three) is dominant
  • understand that this is a tool, however,  the Doctrine is more  a file than a saw,  more a screw driver than a hammer (simply, relax, go slow and it will come to you)
  • take assurance that if you have gotten this far, in this Post, you will grasp the concept of the Wakefield Doctrine and you will get something (in return for your efforts)
  • the Doctrine is genuinely inspired and has a core of truth that is a little bit amazing in what it offers, but lighten up…it is meant to be fun as well as useful
  • practicing the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine will return benefits way in excess of your efforts
  • talk to others about this Wakefield Doctrine
  • don’t worry about getting it right ( and you clarks especially!…don’t worry so much you will get some of it wrong at first)…but the Doctrine is very flexible, you can’t break it
  • use the tools this thing offers, use it on yourself and when it works tell others

Glad you could stop by. Follow these simple suggestions and let us know how you make out!

* clarks!  do not jump around half reading pages….scotts sit! read! think first then act….rogers get back here, you will be glad that you did…later they will understand you, first you must understand them
