clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 46 clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 46

“…as I was about to say, when I rudely interrupted myself” the Wakefield Doctrine (of blogs and book writing)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

‘…you should write a book.’  ‘…hey, have you ever thought about writing a book?’ ‘…you know clark, what would be real good, would be if you wrote all that stuff down.’  ‘…my sisters best friends’ brother wrote a book about personality types..I think they’re gonna make it into a movie.’

You know, whoever said, ‘…easier said than done’ was probably talking about blogs and book writing. It’s just that everyone, in this demographic…the one that includes: people who write daily blogs, girls who paint, guys with cameras, mothers with children and sisters with ambition, they all seem to have the energy, the skills and the time and the energy to produce, at very least, a draft manuscript of a decent idea for a book or a novel, a memoir or an autho-biography.
As a matter of fact, the group that I joined on ‘the Facebook’ (the BB&G) were in the midst of starting some kind of book-writing marathon… the nano-mo-ho, or the whoo-hoo-write write, whatever…I recall it was a Contest, at least as much of a contest that female women, god-bless-their-understanding-instead-of-killing-and-destroying hearts are capable of…. (remind me to tell you about a sporting event that centered on one of the women athlete’s being on the verge of breaking (a) world (scoring) record… it’s a sweet story from the X-chrome side of the fence and is totally incomprehensible to the rest of us. …it involved a team sport and when the athlete was at the point, about to break it, everyone stopped playing…I mean everyone, the other team included …no!  really! the opposing team stood aside so the shot could be made and the record books be re-written!! even a roger would shake their oft-bearded heads at such behavior.  I suppose that’s why there’s no Emperor Ming-ette or Ghengis Connie  or  (hey, stop me if I am going on too much with this…there is a point in this here Post here… if I write enough words I will come upon it. I know I will.

I got it now!!  I don’t think it’s my dissatisfaction with my efforts to take what is known about the Wakefield Doctrine and turn it into a book. At least I don’t think it is… well, maybe a little. It’s just that all the parts are there…it sits in my head every day and…and even when I am not writing about the Doctrine, someone like Cyndi or Terrye or Melanie or Janine or Amy or Jen or Kristi (newest addition to the blogroll!) or Denise or Stephanie or even the Progenitor roger will write a Comment that makes me see more of the Doctrine (more uses, more insights, more wisdom, more humor, more ways-to-win-an-argument, more ways-to-get-lucky, more skills for career advancement, more insights into the behavior of our: spouse/the kids/the boss/the ex/the new beau/the cop standing next to your car;  there just seems to be no end to the ways that this perspective on human nature can be used for… and I know that I can create something that people, other than you ‘Readers-with-minds-like-steel-traps and hearts-like-good-natured-bears’ can read and understand and be glad you bought the book.

ok…guess I am done:

  • complaining ( did you know that most clarks don’t believe that they complain…even when we do?)
  • rambling on (the clark in me enjoys the end product of a Post like this, but hates the thought of how….odd it reads)  (the roger in me  probably is basking in the sense of heart-feltedness this may ‘read…) (the scott?  don’t ask lol)
  • seeing my thoughts ‘on paper’
  • being uncomfortable about not being able to write a Post, I will now proceed to be uncomfortable about the Reader response lol

Enough… maybe  video tomorrow!

…stay tuned yo

…what’s everyone reading today at the Doctrine? glad you asked! the Wakefield Doctrine re-run Monday (‘what?! then, make it) …tre-run Tuesday!

(I noticed, just now,  a Reader from California going to this Post, so I thought, ‘lets see what so interesting about that Post…I read, I laughed… here ya go!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

What is it we mean when we say that the scottian personality lives in the reality of the predator? Is the Doctrine really suggesting that those who identify their predominant worldview as that of the predator are:

avaricious, carnivorous, predacious, bloodsucking, grasping, larcenous, marauding, pillaging, plundering, foraging, sexy, voracious, voluptuous, vulpine, lupine, canine, supine, teasing, pleasing, quick, snappish, nippy, nasty, pugilistic,, sharkish, aggressive, ravening, ravenous, mercurial, temperamental, tempestuous, predictable, trainable and fun  (courtesy of http://freethesaurus.net  …sort of added a bunch of my own)

hmm, guess I’m gonna go with, “Yes, yes it is!”

Now you should know, that we know that the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) is not for everyone! The ‘everyone’ that it is ‘not for’ includes:

those with a rigid worldview, the people who know what the world is like with certainty that precludes questioning, humorless people, those with limited language skills,  those who think of the Dictionary  the way that the sporadically religious think of the Bible, those who feel that there is a right way and there is a wrong way, those that believe that some things are best left to the professionals, people who take the little warnings at the bottom of virtually every TV commercial as a reassuring sign that the world is protecting them, people who think that language is a powerful weapon and it is not a toy, anyone who says: a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, waste not want not, measure twice cut once, loose lips sinks ships, ask not what you can do for your country, father knows best, listen to your mother and, finally,  the Wakefield Doctrine is not for anyone for whom the term ‘flexible intelligence’ produces a visual of Nadia Comaneci in a Cap and Gown.

What has been totally gratifying is the increasing number of  people that are reading and learning and Commenting on the Doctrine (and) wearing hats and DocTee(s)! …and!  …and they are turning out to be the kind of people with the kind of minds that let them hear the term  ‘predator’ and say, “damn! you’re right. My best friend, she appears to totally have it together and yet it is all about the here and now for her! Try and talk about the ‘what ifs and she goes all blank…and then laughs or gets mad!” (or) “I know what you mean! My friend is surely a scott, he is funny and loves young children but is a relentless tease!” (or even) ” I have never seen anyone who focuses so quickly on a problem, very clever but if the lawn mower refuses to start..watch out! He’s as likely to throw it across the street as he is to fix it”.

So read this here Doctrine here and have some fun. Remember, the really cool thing is that the Wakefield Doctrine works itself! No lie! If you learn what the world of a clark is like (the Outsider) enough to know the major characteristics of the type and if you see how the (Predatory) world of a scott results in people who are quick to act and yet totally confident in appearance, generous to a fault yet totally mercurial, and if you come to be able to imagine living in a world of rules and predictability, connectiveness and certainty that is the (Herd-based) reality of a roger then you can go out into your daily world and you will see them out there. You will not need us to say, “Now remember if a man wears a beret, smokes a pipe and holds forth on the works of Ken Burns, then you have a roger”  You will see them.

…a little spooky, but what the hell, eh?

“to strike or break with: foot, fist or one of those flagstones in your sidewalk” the Wakefield Doctrine Sunday perdition Edition

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Last night was one of the WDSN* Drives that reminded me of what the fun of these weekly outings is…

The evening started with regulars, Denise1 and Molly2  which bode(d) well, right from the proverbial ‘get go’. We talked about Molly’s getting her green belt in Tae Kwon Do, that very day.  We talked about performance (as ‘before an audience’),  identification as a strategy  to overcome self-consciousness and intention. In the midst of this discussion, the caller announcer lady3  interupts us with, “...the Caller...”
and we hear a voice, “Alex”.

Now, I have a friend by the name of Alex, (he calls in on the rare occasion4 ) and there is a ‘Friend of the Doctrine’ by the name of Alex Crabtree  (who we haven’t heard from in a fair while)… in any event we had a semi-racous conversation. The topics were varied at first, but eventually focused on a scenario that I dredged out of my pre-conscious, of a situation that I witnessed in a hospital waiting room about 5 years ago. Long story…interesting responses from those in attendio
With Alex, now ‘in the dashboard’, we had a scottian perspective which, almost always produces an interesting perspective when brought into a conversation among clarks.
Then! ….then! …5 minutes before the end of the Drive, another Caller…. another scott! …another Alex, no less.

As Edgar sang once, ‘we all had a real good time’.

‘Funny-You-Should-Mention-That’ Tuesday!! the Wakefield Doctrine (‘say clark, here’s an interesting question from a Reader’) (“Hi yo!…*)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

(* you will need to be terribly, terribly old to get this reference, at least to the extent that you encountered it in realtime, as opposed to the ReRun Channel)

In any event, today is FYSMT Tuesday!  …we use the word ‘mention’, as opposed to ‘question’, simply because what has been happening around here of late, is that Readers are reacting to a Post by mentioning a specific event, episode, response or reflection of their own, which, in turn, provides us with a topic for discussion that is much more apropos to where most Readers are at the moment. (…in terms of their understanding of the Doctrine) (…which, of course, totally determines how useful it is) (…the Doctrine, not their understanding) (…yeah, I guess that is sort of the same thing) (…the whole Post? no, I really can’t see putting you through that!) (…no there isn’t a better time than the)

Damn! Got out of that one not a moment too soon! To the Comments!

Stacy writes:

“…screaming vegetables. You must not have stopped over by my reality! ha ha ha! I still think I am a Rogscoclark! :)”

No, we did stop by, but there was only a slight whimper of hopeless despair from the vegetables,  (“…for the love of god, just pour the hollandaise and end our misery” ).
The thing that Stacy mentions that we are glad (…that she mentions ) (…stop it right this instant!)  Is that she thinks she is a rogscoclark. Which, as we all know is perceptive, intuitive and… frickin wrong!  lol
Actually, Stacy is on the right track* in the sense that while we all have a predominant personality type, this is one that determines the character of the world as we experience it, we never lose the capacity to see the world as ‘the other two do’. In fact, in some (but not all), people we see what we refer to as a secondary aspect (as well as a tertiary aspect), which is the influence of one of the other two on how we deal with problems and situations in our personal realities.
Stacy’s decision to label it rogscoclark is particularly informative! She implies a roger with a secondary scottian aspect and a tertiary clarklike element.  Can anyone tell us why this particular ordering of worldviews is exactly correct?

Melanie, she be sayin’:

“…feels like there’s always something more to learn about them, but I especially like reading up about Clarks (obv!) Thanks for sharing and happy Tuesday!”

This thing is fun to learn about, but like anything new does take practice. The (currently) preferred metaphor is language fluency. You learn the vocabulary and then the rules of grammar and you try it out in the world (and have the Waiter bring the mop flambé  with a side of brillo pads (‘lightly toasted) to your table, just as you requested!) And then you keep practicing. The one thing we will say, it is a lot more fun, ’cause no one in your world has a clue what you are talking about, so you are free from any embarrassing mistakes! How cool is that? (hey!  Melanie’s got this other site: ‘Steer Career Success’   go over there (no, after you read and comment!)  ’cause she’s doing some SEO stuff to the site and it will help her out)

Kristi, in a Comment:

“…I must be a Clark because I can’t remember the last time I was bored and the inside of my head is definitely big! And I love that we can still “be tired of this shit” because, yeah, definitely can relate to that.”

…and that is the way that it starts! you see something that reminds you of something, usually something that you had good sense not to go around broadcasting to the world around you, ’cause you learned way early on that most people don’t get you. Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine, Kristi!

From our Friend Janine:

“…so true that this has now helped me on more than one occasion dealing with others in my life now. So thank you for that Clark!! :)”

Janine is special to the Doctrine as she, like Molly, has a significant rogerian aspect, in a context that is all positive and therefore beneficial to all of us. As witness to this influence, can anyone tell us why the quote from Janine’s comment is of interest?** And she has totally nailed it… “help…dealing with others in my life.”  As we say, this Wakefield Doctrine is fun, and unique and useful. Not gonna make you want to stand in airport lobbies handing out pamphlets and such, but may, when you least expect it, let you say, “hey! wait a minute! you’re just saying/doing/wanting/thinking/don’t stop, that’s wonderful(ing) because you are a clark or a scott or a roger… I feel so much better… (please continue!)

Cyn…dee!  (take it home!):

“…with this post I’m thinking about my guest post: “Living Life as a Clark According to the WD” lol “

Yes, I realize that that is not a Comment to expand upon. Cyndi totally gets the Doctrine and is fast approaching complete fluency… we’ve  invited her to do a ‘guest clark‘ Post, not sure when it will appear in print, Cyndi has total options on what and when…we get the benefit of a ‘surprise’ Post soon.  go Cyndi!

Well that’s my 1000 cents worth for this morning. Write us a Comment, and not being Alex Trebek you are not required to express it in the form of a question.  Promise.

* Readers will, if you have been doing your homework, know what we are doing with our commentary… hold on to your responses, please

** very tricky Trick Question!

if ‘a picture is worth 1,000 words’ and ‘actions speak louder than words’, then today’s Post might best be read while sitting down…the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Lets get started!

A video Post for today.  The highlights are:

  • Readers are reading and some are even Commentationing
  • this blog could be better organized, a layout/structure that is geared to the First Time Reader
  • there is no such word as Commentationing
  • while the fact that:  ‘everyone has a predominant worldview but always retains the capability to see the world as the other two’ remains a core concept
  • of recent times, the role of (a person’s) secondary aspect is beginning to be better understood and subsequently is way useful to know when first learning about the three worldviews
  • (this ‘better understanding’) involves recognizing how (one’s) secondary aspect colors the  possible solutions to a given problem
  • yes, we are going on just a bit with these technical things
  • of course we still do
  • (if you were able to supply the question that is implied in the previous bullet point, we so want to hear from you!

Well, given that the Video is… minutes long, let’s wrap the silent portion of this here Post here up.

Here’s a fun thing to take away from this Post! Sometime in the course of your day today, the thought will pop into your head, “this is what those Wakefield people said might happen!  Holy: a) Moley b) shit c) Toledo! What was it they said to do next?!?”
If that happens, lets us know.

We’ll wait here.
