TToT the Wakefield Doctrine (“…and the b b beat goes on, and on and on”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

hey!  tow things:

  1. the bloghop is growing which is both a good thing and a factor to be recognized
  2. the Wakefield Doctrine, never a non-list item is progressing and developing
  3. I am going to make a conscious effort to misspell words…not as easy as you might thing…given the spellnanny…future generations of bloggers will have only wrong-word-use to contend with, proof-readationly speaking

Anyway. Lets get to today’s List of Grats… and, for the record, I am glad of, grateful to, thankful on, appreciative with and all other indications that I am ‘feeling’ the proper emotional response for the following:

1) eyes!  aiyee  that ‘contest’  that Amy has going on over at ‘Amycake and the Dude‘…   and all those people what say, ‘oh, you write a blog?  how interesting… you must not get bored very easily’  ha! (I retort) go check out the totally alluring photos at that blog and tell me how boring this thing is!

2) this just in!!  I heard my phone make a funny notification noise… and what the hell?? Lizzi and Michelle were inviting me the Sunday Morning Video Brunch!! (I know, I know…it’s like 8:15 local  what are they doing on the air so early?  turns out, Lizzi being in BST and Michelle being in TST* they were just chatting and sending out invites and all, which is one of the main fun things to do on vid chats)

3) we did talk a little but I needed to stop because I have this Post to complete and an appointment that I have to leave the house within 45 minutes, but we did discuss: Richard Branson, timezones, words on tee shirts and the proper way to arrange the groceries before you put them in the shopping cart ( ‘trolly‘ as Lizzi called them… those British people, aren’t’ they so cute with their misuse of the ‘merican Language?)

4) I did mention (to Lizzi and Michelle) that I was talking to Denise last night on the Saturday Night Drive Call-in that she (Denise) added to the language of the Doctrine by using the would ‘represent’ during the discussion about understanding rogers,  something to the effect that it when we try to understand, say a roger whines about something, we should remind ourselves (the clarks) that what we think of as ‘whining’  represents something that we, as clarks, do not fully appreciate’  cool, huh?

5) the Book of Secret Rules (aka Secret Book of Rules) is growing in use and prominance (ha ha … my Y Chrome mind just said something guyfunny)… in any event, someone in a comment mentioned ‘the Book’ and I totally agree, it is a most wonderful thing to have in a blog hop (seeing how this ‘hop is like many other hops except it is different….) I suspect someone, someday will write the definitive Post about the BoSR   I will say that I am grateful for it, not just because it lets me play with the rules of the TToT, but it expects (and requires) that anyone who does invoke a Secret Rule presents their reason and rationale (for use) in a way that is irrefutable. (I suspect that as young lifeforms, many of us have heard the admonition, “clark, the amount of effort you put into cutting a corner is so much more than if you simply wrote your Ten Things! damn! young man!”)

6) I do have to make this quick as I have to get to work. While I have been taking Sundays off in recent months, the nature of what I do for a living is demanding more time from me and so I will have to look to a better organization of my free time, so that I have time for my blog as well as my work

7) though not a Secret Rule, I will try something for  items 8-10. (In my defense, I will blame ‘our Mz Lizzi‘ for always challenging us to look for that… blog road less travelled…. wish me luck

8)   this

9)        space reserved

10)                   for my umpteenth effort to do something  half-well, but really cool

(the following is not quite what I had hoped to present as numbers 8-10 but are ya gonna do?)

“…ollie, ollie, oxen free1” the Wakefield Doctrine nobody ever said this wouldn’t be semi-tough2

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

the Wakefield Doctrine is a way to (better) understand the behavior of the people in our lives, it is a tool that can aid in our efforts to self-improve our selfs and it is a fun way to appreciate the friends we have and engage and enjoy the company of people that we otherwise would never in a million years have come to know. The challenge of the Wakefield Doctrine is to understand and appreciate how a person relates themselves to the world around them… including our own selves.

you know how, every time a Reader or a DownSprings says something about: going to grad school, attending a wedding, trying to learn how to build a ship in a bottle, I always say (actually, I kinda yell) ‘Take Notes!!’ The reason I feel moved to ask people to ‘Take Notes!!’ is that I truly believe in (the concept of) the three characteristic worldviews, that form the foundation of the Wakefield Doctrine. I believe that, if you are a clark and I am a clark, your experiences are something that I can identify with and therefore, what you tell me about how you got through a: tough experience, a happy and joyful occasion, a nerve-racking first date, the job interview that must-result-in-being-offered-a-postion, is directly useful and completely valuable to me. And this value is not limited to my being better prepared for having a similar experience. It is valuable to me as I use the Doctrine to improve my self as a person.

so, about yesterday’s Post…

Some of what lead to yesterday’s Post was an aspect of a clarklike worldview that, at the risky of sounding overly-dramatic, if you are not a clark you would not understand. In no way to I mean to imply that if my Post caused hurt feelings or offended anyone, it’s excusable, because  ‘…you wouldn’t understand what I was going through‘. I may be demonstrating some naiveté in saying, that there is no excuse for being self-centered to the extent that it causes others to feel bad. Wait! I just read that and it so does reveal naiveté.  damn!

Simple as I can make it. I am applying the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine to myself in an effort (a way way too public, for my own tastes) to demonstrate the efficacy of the aforementioned Doctrine as a tool for personal development. It certainly is doing something to me.

…to be cont’d

1) “…Ollie Ollie Oxen Free”  (according to our friends at Wikipedia, means): Olly olly oxen free (and variants: ollie ollie umphrey, olly-olly-ee, ally ally in free, ally alley ocean free, etc.) is a catchphrase used in such children’s games as hide and seek to indicate that players who are hiding can come out into the open without losing the game, that the position of the sides in a game has changed, or, alternatively, that the game is entirely over. It is thought to derive from the phrase “All ye, all ye ‘outs’ in free,”,”All the outs in free” or possibly “Calling all the ‘outs’ in free;” in other words: all who are “out” may come in without penalty.  (goes out to Kristi… at at ‘Thankful me‘  and, of course, zoe at re-written)

2) Semi-Tough a rather funny (in a Blazing Saddles kind of way) book by Dan Jenkins..

TToT by the damn day! the Wakefield Doctrine (“We were this close to doing a right and proper TToT Post… if at first you don’t….”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

20140120_172226_resized

* Monday 01.20.14  well (water) service done on time with a 10% discount!   Enjoy the traditional greeting from Una (and the photo I thought to take with my phone turns out to be useful as a Post photo)

* Tuesday 01.21.14 ……      (shit!  forgot to write contemporaneous Gratitude item!)

I will begin today’s Post by saying, “Congratulations to Christine for her Award nomination,  ‘the 2014 Sheenazing Awards’.

I need to address my failed, write-like-a-real-person, effort for this today’s TToT Post. I will, however, take credit for 1 1/2 items. (no, make that 2 and 1/2 items)…. wait… wait!  (I’m re-reading Item 1  service man on time? 1,  get a discount? (jeez kind of a girl thing, but what the hell…. 2)  greeting from Una (I walk in… she waits on the couch, I sit at one end of said couch, she sits sorta on a lap(photo above) and we discuss our day…. gonna have to go with 1 item there, that takes us up to 3 and finally, I thought to use my phone for a photo and it turned out useable… that’s Number 4.  And since, I’m going with the by-the-numbers-verifiable-gratitudinous items, while I’m not grateful that I totally forget to continue my day-by-day effort, the Tuesday entry above forms my jumping off point, so 5 it is!

6) the Comments, thoughts, feedback and input from the people responding to a couple of Posts here at the Doctrine this week. I have difficulty relating myself to people who are saying nice thing to and about me, but they did and I respect them enough not to get all….”no!  no, you’re just saying that to make me feel good“.

7) vid chat last night with zoe and Michelle, we covered a lot of ground and I came to several points-of-understanding and appreciation of and for: the Wakefield Doctrine, the workings of (the individual’s) worldview and insight and encouragement for my efforts to continue working on this thing  you know, the fun of the Doctrine for clarks

8) with yesterday’s Post, the Sunshire Award thing… yet another experience that results in my being more than I was the day before, pretty much due to the response of the people involved…nothing clarkweird or obtuse, simply was fun!

9) Work today.  Holy shit!  an actual contemporaneous grat list item!! yahoo! ‘Gratitude item’ experienced and expressed in relatively, nearly, realtime!)

10) I should explain what my thinking behind today’s list, for the benefit of my new co-hostettes (Sandy and Lisa), new Readers who might be joining us for the first time…and any rogers who might have stopped by, thinking they heard the sound of a crowd.

yes, time to get to the aforementioned work, I will stop by at various points in the day to read and Comment…. everyone comment on this Post, please. Thank you. Thank you very much.

TTOT Saturday the Wakefield Doctrine (‘a little advice? ..better go ahead and read the text before viewing the vid, no! nothing bad! just a little…confusing’)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

I’m writing this rather early, meaning before 9:00am Saturday morning. In fact, I’m starting this Post as I wait the other participants in the Wakefield Doctrine Friday Night Video Chat… which, as of the time of this writing,  7:30 pm,  is more like the Wakefield Doctrine Friday Night Video Soliloquy.  (lol)

(hey! new bloggers, ever think to yourselfs, ‘gee I think it would be a keen hobby to write a blog, but where the heck do you come up with ideas to write about?’  Well, as they say, ‘it’s raining soup’ when it come to ideas, they’re all over the frickin place. Just leave off the filters, avoid thinking about how good the idea/topic might actually be and just start writing. (I am a total follower of this advice…find something that is odd/cool/interesting/exciting/provocative/so-dumb-it-just-might-work and start writing. The real challenge is to ‘write your way out’ (of) wherever it is that you run out of words…. )

As Sy Sperling would say, (about this advice?)  “I’m also a member!”).  Just now, I realized that I need to do a Video TToT of my Wakefield Doctrine Friday… you get the idea…

(lights! camera…. action!!!)

1)

2)

3) book of secret rules

4)

5) videos(?)

6) time travel…grammatically-speaking

7) I’m now writing from Saturday morning and tell you how it turned out (the above 6 items that were written last night before the Vid Chat got going)… it was the best that we’ve had, to date. My definition of ‘best’ is focused on the who and not the what of these chats. the usual suspects: zoe and Denise and Lizzi, of course, but we saw Starr come back and Tamara (from Hawaii) and, in a provocative vid noirs,  beth appeared but had to leave all too soon. The picked up momentum when who do we see (in Charlie Weaver’s square) but Linda Roy (first visit…très cool ). The big surprise was Christine  stopping, always a crowd favorite and having a little trouble with her audio, she did not disappoint. Just as she appeared, who shows up but Jak (and Kate!)… giving us a tour of Paisley Park (er… actually it was Target, but it was in Minnesota!) …and finally to close the evening (like a surprise guest on one of the old variety shows)… who but no other than Jen Kehl!!

8) so I am certainly grateful to everyone for bringing to life this totally cool medium

9) and Una and Phyllis for their patience and forbearance

10) Secret Rule 1.3   done!

be sure to join on the TToT  Sunday Special!!

too cold outside the Wakefield Doctrine (yeah, lets rummage through some old Posts, up in the metaphorical attic)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

"…it's ten past seven!"

“…it’s ten past seven!”

lets just throw caution, grammar, syntax and any and all semblance of good prose to the wind and learn some shit about our favorite personality theory.

so, whats the deal with:

  • rogers and alarm clocks? they (the rogers, not the alarm clocks) will set them (the alarm clocks, not the rogers) too early and then wake up and hit the ‘snooze’ button until the following day, dinner or you (a clark) stand there and ask, in a calm voice, ‘when will you be getting up?’, which will be ignored and the wake-up-annoying-alarm sounds-hit-snooze-button cycle continues on and on
  •  out there today? you will spot the rogers first, the scotts second (except that you will be wrong the first time but right there after) and the clarks last.
  • clarks are trying to be noticeable by blending in, rogers are all, the center of the herd and scotts are just plain fuckin hungry
  • if you feel like you want to tell someone about the Wakefield Doctrine and how much… (sense it makes, which means you are a clark) or (fun it is, which makes you a scott) or (everyone will get a laugh about the people you got it from, …rogers) then you need to take certain…precautions. If you’re a clark, and you are dealing with friends in a social setting  tell your scottian friend, but make them earn it, if you’re at home (or otherwise with family), pick a roger, tell them and then find another clark and tell them (you’ll know why this is important, when the time comes)
  • tip on determining your own worldview (or anyone else’s, for that matter)…eliminate the ‘no frickin way they’re a….clark/scott/roger  and that will leave you two worldviews to compare and contrast
  • wanna hear something funny?  the two worldviews you have left?  you’ll have to decide between: a scott and a roger
  • yes Miss zoe?  I see your hand up, why certainly you may ask
  • ok.. we’ll come back later today and add to the list

So we were talking on the last Wakefield Doctrine Friday ‘just-happen-to-catch-me-home-I’m-always-being-asked-out-by-friends-on-Friday-night, really’ Video Chat and we got to talking about video Posts. A number of great ideas…potential projects and such (yeah  Christine, I did say that, but don’t know if I can promise the seatbelt thing), the biggest hurdle with this kind of blogging is in the post production, editing and such. Naturally, I’ve tried my hand at this in the early days (yeah, sorry guys…but there is very little I haven’t tried, nothing that I have not been willing to attempt all in the service of increasing ‘follower-ship’). Below is my attempt to present the Doctrine with an example from the worldview.
