2sdey -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts, and rogers)

Where were we?

oh yeah, yesterday’s post ended:

…guess what happens when a clark walks up and says, “I really like what you’ve done with your world. Everyone belongs. Can I join your Herd?”

something, something…blue paint

good! we’re back on track for this week’s theme.

it’s not a pretty picture when it comes to clarks and Herds. pretty much doesn’t happen. of course. clarks and Herds obviously coexist, sometimes amicably, very often serving as a cautionary tales for unruly members of the Herd. (“keep it up. you wanna end up like him…/her?”)

as couples there are no restrictions on the pairing of Outsiders and Herd Members (blessing of the Everything Rule). that said, the Wakefield Doctrine can be of help (usually the clark in the pair) when conflict (institutional or circumstantial) arises.

what is interesting is how challenging it is for a clark who have convinced themselfs of the value in trying ‘to pass’ as a roger. Hardly ever happens.* And, not for nothin’ if it did and another clark noticed, they’d be all, ‘Don’t mind me. I’ll just get a seat back there, in the back’

not equating the rejection of a clark by the Herd to any of the more ‘real’ world forms of discrimination.

and, before any roger feeling all St. Thomas/Mother Theresa about the situation, a clark’s life, vis á vis being rejected and/or psycho-socially bullied by a gathering of rogers (aka a Herd) is not a tragic, pitiable or anything else… it’s the life… no! lets frame this correctly, it is the nature of the world for the Outsider to be…outside.

not that we celebrate it (much) but there are trade-offs to being outside, such as the gift of creativity** and the joy in encountering new information so… ain’t nothin’ but a thang.

* in which case most likely a clark with a crazy-strong secondary rogerian aspect (no! you don’t want to look) (lol)

** speaking of the Everything Rule… all three have a gift for creativity. it’s just that it (creativity) manifests differently for clarks, scotts and rogers:

  • clarks (the Outsider) genuine creativity as in bringing something totally new, unique into existence (yeah, we know what you’re thinking… good luck selling that)
  • scotts (the Predator) creative by virtue of their ability to get others to see what they (the scott) want them to see. (“Hey! Look at this!!”) think lead singer in a band
  • rogers (the Herd Member) creative by virtue of artful re-assembly of already known/accepted elements of reality. (think Stephen King stories that are told with nice, well-rounded words that strike a chord of recognition in most readers most of the time)

questions?

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one
