RePrint Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Had an enjoyable conversation at the TwoGGirlie yesterday. In the course of the conversation the subject of writing was touched upon, (to our purposes here) early writing. In demonstration of the benefits of using the Wakefield Doctrine as a tool of self-improving oneself, I did, in fact, raise my hand and said, “I use old posts every week!”

This is noteworthy as, for many of us, any early effort at developing a skill or art is often left in the attic. This tendency (for some of us) is unfortunate. Not because it deprives us of the opportunity for an easy Monday morning, postistically-speaking, but because the contrast between old and new, new and improved, better or worse is, from a Doctrine perspective, invaluable to the process of changing (for the better) how we relate ourselves to the world around us and the people who make it up.

The Doctrine would maintain that an honest appreciation of who we were is productive when we seek to become who we would be.

… but, didn’t we say this is RePrint Monday?!  Surely that’s why you’re all here, and so, we will not disappoint. (Lets see how far back in the Years of November we can go without stepping on any of our favorite end-of-the-month topics. (Hint: rhymes with Cranksgiving.)

(By way of a little lead in/commentary on this very, very early post. The term we use now is ‘Manifest’ in place of the use of ‘characteristic’ in the post below. The reason being to both reinforce and make clearer the idea that each of the three predominant worldviews: the Outsider(clarks), the Predator(scotts) and the Herd Member(rogers) represent certain realities and, as such, the things we do manifest in a characteristic manner, aka ‘the Everything Rule’*)

you tell me that it’s evolution, we all want to change the world

This promises to be a brief Post, as there is much activity ‘behind the scenes’ at the Doctrine.Had a Comment from an actual Reader! (Yeah, I know I should not sound so surprised), but there it was the other morning a readable if not slightly scottian Comment submitted by a ‘AlmostKatherine Hepburn’. While I never get tired of writing in the self-referential perspective of the Doctrine, I did get a kick out of reading something that was not written by any of us here (Progenitors and Downsprings).

Anyway, will be looking forward to contributions from Ms Hepburn going forward.

Speaking of contributions from Downsprings,  had an interesting and challenging discussion with Phyllis the other morning regarding rogers. For some distantly related reason Phyllis said that ‘rogers are mean’. Out of the context in which this sentence was made, this statement, ‘rogers are mean’ demanded consideration. For if a statement is true about one form, what does it tell us about the other two forms? So from that Phyllis’ single statement we jumped to the following:

rogers are mean, scotts are cruel and clarks are heartless

So, lets consider these statements.
We start with the premise, i.e. when one (of us) chooses to be unkind to another, what is the characteristic of the behavior relative to our type. (Or may I could just say, why are clarks heartless and scotts cruel and rogersmean, instead of say, clarks are cruel and rogers are heartless etc)

‘Rogers are mean’ because when they want to negatively affect someone, they do it within the context of the herd. They will gossip and talk among each other about the target (of this negativity). They will never go up to the target(person) and say ‘you are a slut’. Instead they will say to each other, ‘isn’t she such a slut’? It will be the group opinion that will constitute the negative effect. In other words, if an outsider comes on the scene and and needs information reagrding this person, the herd will make a point of offering an opinion.
(Now class, why is that so rogerian?)
(God, I so love to lecture)

The answer is, of course, because the effort to affect a non-herd member is always done among and within the herd. No single member (of the herd) could or would approach the ‘target person’ directly and certainly would not say anything to their face.

All right, then how about scotts? Why cruel instead of heartless or mean?
Because it is the nature of predators, to act alone. Granted scotts will gather in packs when the occasion rises, but for the most part they hunt alone. And when a scott is being ‘negative’ it is expressed in a manner that can only be called cruelty. Part of this is the result of the fact that scotts will act directly but impersonally. They enjoy the efforts of the prey to resist, hey that squirming and trying to get away is the damn relish. But its nothing personal, the scott is hungry and the prey is food. So in the case of scotts, this cruelty is the ‘way of nature’ cruelty.

Clarks? Heartless? No! Say it ain’t so!! If any Reader needs it explained, then you need to read the content in these Pages a bit more.

Well, lets end it at that.

Big news, though. Working on a Post with two, count ’em two guests. The last Post with roger helping out (panic in Detroit…) got rave reviews and feedback. So, if it is worth doing, it is worth over-doing.

Look for it end of this weekend/beginning of week coming.

Until then…..goodnight  Sloveniaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

  1. the Everything Rule: ‘Everyone does everything at one time or another.’ There is nothing in the human realm that is exclusive of any of the three predominant worldviews. No magic ‘only a clark could do that‘ or ‘who but a scott would climb halfway out the front passenger side window while it was traveling through pedestrian-lined streets and ‘really, you feel that way about…!?!?!’ (lol) It comes down to: how would a certain thing/act/belief manifest in a certain reality

Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine- [a Café Six]

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is our weekly contribution to the Six Sentence Story bloghop.

Our host, Denise, provides a prompt word each and every week and invites all and sundrie* to write a story, employing this word of six (and only six) sentences in length.

(Full Disclosure: there are times, with prompt words, when one is stuck with a specific use of the word, one manifestation, if you will. This can be especially bothersome when it is drawn from an established context of use, specifically from one of Shakespeare’s play. Hey, will if help if we used the word homage? Probably not. Since we don’t have the mad rhyme skills of Keith or Doug, we’re not gonna say, parody. For the record, we totally loved Ethan Hawk’s take on the title role in the movie version of Hamlet.)

The prompt word:

PLAY

“I’m telling you, Tom will be back, we just have to give him some space.”

The woman’s voice held the edge of a knife in a velvet sheath; the question an interested stranger, of which there were at least eighty-three on the public side of the double swinging kitchen doors, could be forgiven for asking was: which was more essential to her nature, the knife or the holder?

The Six Sentence Café & Bistro was midway through it’s first day as host to a professional organization, specifically the annual meeting of the Association of Costume Jewelry Designers and Manufacturers; where, during it’s normal hours of operation, was a sea of round tables filling the open floor space and a low stage against the far interior wall, now stood long tables in dark cloth, plexiglass display cases and LED highlighting of samples on display and, in place of the stage, tables with rows of chafing dishes and coffee urns, currently suffering the onslaught of hungry sales people and manufacturer reps.

“I’m just suggesting, M, since our contract with the Jeweler’s Association,” the Proprietor turned from the round windows in the swinging doors to face the woman in white, “left the menu to our discretion, having him back in chef’s whites would be good for you; not that anyone out there is turning up their noses at your menu, I freely admit to having my eye on your Maque choux,” the play of affection and worry rippled across the face of the tall, thin man.

“I should go out and check on the urns and the chaffing dishes, would hate to run out of coffee and food on the buffet tables.”

“Worry you not, I have grounds aplenty, and if you’re concerned about your coveted side-dish, the maize’s the thing; (with or without Tom), the jewelry show today will proclaim the affluence of the bling.”

RePrint Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

No getting away from it. Summer is over. Not that it’s cold. It isn’t even how, on a cloudy day, the sun sets at, like, two-thirty.

It’s the photo at the top of this post. (We’d love to note the ghostly light to either side of the photo, but its simply the light inside reflecting on the glass… but we cannot).

We were thinking about, as the wait-maybe-we-don’t-need-a-reprint topic, the dynamics of secondary and tertiary aspects and how to spot them in a person and how it is they manifest in the person’s predominant worldview.

But, lets just reach down into the half-empty box of Raisin Bran and see if’n we can’t reach the prize, before we commit to an entirely new post.

Hey! Now that was interesting.

So we went and searched ‘cereal box prize’ and got five returns! ok, that’s kind of cool*

The weird part (or not) was that four of the five posts were reprints of the same post from 2009. This, btw, was the end of the first year of this blog. Seeing how we started in June of 2009, it was the first six months. Not that you can tell by reading it. …..

Wait. No. You can’t tell. But you will get a sense of why we’re still writing and, at the risk of: a)sounding presumptuous and 2) stepping on next week’s livestream, a part of the secret of the universe for one of the three predominant worldviews.

oh, man…what is it now?

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine. Sorry to dissappoint, but the Interview with the roger(Progenitor) is not complete and as such is nowhere near ready to Post. Sunday is a time when I try to get something/anything new in but was drawing a major blank until the name James Joyce flashed against my 3am brain and so we are going to walk to amateur experimental-writing land this morning. And by the way there is something weird about trying to write like this and yes I will tell you something you do not in fact know but the loss or surrender of most punctuation is really hard on the typing. Thank god for the occaisional period although I don’t know how many of them I have left but for some reason doing this Post the way I am I am mis-spelling alomst every third word I promise that I will spellcheck this thing and not put you throught that ordeal or misspelling everything in the name of an art for which I have no techniques be warned though I did look up EE Cummings before I started and at the first opportunity I know I will jam a reference to his stuff. My mother used to have an expression that went a little knowledge is a dangerous thing I think this is an example of what she meant although she died in 1979 and could not have imagined this particular form of acting without regard to justification. Although she (my mother) was a clark of the first order so I would bet that she would have no problem accepting the strangeness of this Post. We clarks are good at that we will witness the second coming and not show a reaction. But she was a clark in all the classic forms of expression you must allow for the time/culture she existed in which for my purposes and perception would be the 1950s through the 1970s. But as a clark she was the perfect selfless-to-a-fault mother and just in case there was any doubt about here type (clark, scott or roger) she has a 3rd grade school teacher. Hey no clark there. Anyway not sure how i got off on that tangent. Damd did i just lose capital letters? Oh well what can you do. so i was saying i brushed up on ee cumming because we all had the wednesday in spring 5th grade english class that started on the poetry and who did not like the phrase and the world was puddle wonderful? but the fun for me was that he did not need to use punctuation or even particularly spell things right and he certainly felt free to make up his own words. i never got much into that poetry thing then but like so much i am only now coming to appreciate things that i thought at a previous time i just did not have the time for. and maybe that is part of what this post is saying to me. while it is not uncommon to put things off, i am coming to an understand only now of how there is not a later for things to get done and as i look back i realise how much time i wasted. this is not a negative thought rather for me this realization produces in me the acceptance and will that whatever i might find of interest today i should and must invest all i have to invest in it now, not later. yeah, yeah i know kind of basic, mature adult looking at life shit. bear with me am filling up the page and can get out hopefully without a topic but no, i stayed too long. so i was talking with downspring glenn, who of course is a scott you saw his interview last week and we got on the subject of post writing and what to do when there is no topic. he is just a scott and as such is strongest in the here and now where all those people live but afterall all of us participating in this Doctrine thing are no more a pure form of our type than we are neither so as an evolved scott glenn is able and quite helpful in working on the development of the Doctrine at least as far as this current effort to bring it to the world. did I get off on a tangent? how the fuck could you tell? this stuff is probably harder to write than it is to read at least you can stop at any point an say yeah that was cute that was creative so when is there a point going to be made and maybe i will just check back in on tuesday or so. and btw i have no idea of what the appropriate music is going to be with this odd little post but if the cat smiles it will be what it needs to be. where was  i oh yeah, glenn and the discussion of topics for posts. he said hey why don’t you write about the differences between… and then a number of suggestions most sports as a vehicle for comparing clarks, scotts and rogers. i think he suggested baseball, football and golf i said sure that sounds like a good idea and then he moved on to compare the three stooges which he realized we had already done in person i think talking with downspring joanne who i want to thank for her efforts at working on the questionaire which no else is helpin on. damn i wish i still had itlaics. anyway glenns last suggestion was pick a person in the world that you really hate and tell them how much you hate them and why you hate them.  good idea. i hate glenn very much much and it is because he is so scottian at times that i don’t understand…ha ha got you going for a second huh? glenn it is strange how presentation changes everything. words are the point but how important is how they are arranged/laid out/presented/fuckin typed? apparently it makes all the difference in the world. so to complete this minor cycle in the overall arch of the post and my spelling is really going downhill, i hoep that this thing does not decide that spelloing does not matter as grammar and everything else seems to not matter. will do my best to hold on to the last shred of coherency  almost done. anyway since we always include some new information about the wakefield doctrine in every post. hey do they still do the prizes in boxes of cereal? i still remember the whole digging to the bottom of the box of frosted flakes looking for the prize that was invariably contained in some kind of white paper envelope that was sealed around the edges in a most peculiar way. the lesson? oh yeah hazel used to use that expression the oh yeah thing jeez what a not to be described yet total energy black hole that hole my hazel relationship thing was. even allowing for the first relationship effect which is cheating here because if you bring up a significant life event i don’t think you should try to control it by laying a in-retrospect i certainly understand what i …blah blah blah but it was the focal point of my existance while it was happening and for too many years after it was over. wtf where the hell am i? where are my caps, my parentheses, jeez louise it is a lot easier to get lost in this rather tedious technique than it is to get out. must find paragraph key…i now it is here somewhere none of the keys have letters anymore shit try something hit any k)y ok {? maye hit1234 nah numbers \Ah! I’m out! Thank you jesus! I am out of that, that, a lot funnier to read than to write, thing. Whew, man I thought that would never end.
Hey, plenty of white space filled in…maybe I can just tie up a few loose thoughts, find some music and put this bad boy in the category: ‘Keep one as Proptype, cancel production run”Damn, what little typing skills I had, seem a bit messed up by this little experiment. Alright loose end tying time, (in no particular order):there was a person by the name of hazel; my mother was, in fact, a 3rd grade teacher (quite a good one, but she was a clark); hey I gots italics!; golf is a clarklike sport; football is scottian and baseball is the rogerian sport.Alright. Now for some music….(man! I just ‘previewed’ this Post, jesus christ what a mess! am thinking of putting music first, be weird but that really, totally is a meaningless term at least for today.)  Nah…better put it down here, someplace for the Reader to run to:So…Will not leave without a Goodnight to our friends in Slovenia…hey guys…

If there are any New Readers here, this November morning. Allow us to offer this post as: encouragement to continue writing… even when you don’t feel like it. And, and when that moment comes as it does to so many of us, when the inner voice of reason whispers, “You’re out of things to write. You’re done with this little experiment of yours. Stop now before everyone begins to laugh.”

When that moment comes, remember what the Wakefield Doctrine has to say: “Well, if that happens, you’ll just have to get yourself another set of everyone.”

* Full Disclosure: the pre-echo of the emotion we’ve referred to as ‘cool’ was reassurance. That there were five posts coming back with that bool.**

** Fuller Disclosure: we suspect what we labeled as ‘reassurance’ was a painted over sense of pride. That the Doctrine is so without limits that over the years I might write a blogpost that had something to do with this admittedly peculiar childhood experience.

TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is our contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop. Originally created during post-war (WWI) Europe, (Arras, France in 1918, to be precise), it has been appearing every week since. It’s raison d’etre, quite simple: to encourage a deliberate effort to perceive the positive aspects in our lives which increases their presence and, arguably more importantly, reduce the influence of the negative elements on how we relate ourselves to the world around us.

So, here, below are those people, places and things that, to the best of our current recollection instigated a sense or state (however brief and transitory) of gratitude.

1) Una. While she did not go door-to-door on Halloween, earlier this week, had she communicated a desire to, there is not doubt we would have arranged for it. (Photo below: Una, inspired by Ola who, for being the most perfect of dogs, did enjoy playing the ‘Rabid Dog Game’ with us. This would be Una’s take on the ‘costume’.)

2) Phyllis

3) the Wakefield Doctrine (sine qua non, binyons, sine qua non)

4) the Six Sentence Story The site for flash fiction (and getting to hang out with bloggers who, for the most part, gots mad writing chops).

5) Sunday Livestream (Youtube channel somewhere here. Sunday at 2:30 ET)

6) Having an office from which to we are able to take the occasional usable photos. (as evidenced by the pitcha at the top of this post).

7) Being enabled by the weather (and abled by health sufficient) to work on the interim walkway to Phyllis’ cottage. (The fun? Found a source of clay not far away, (on our property), to dig and wheel-barrow to the site.

8) something, something

9) the continued enjoyment of conversation on the Saturday Night Drive… last night was no exception, as Cynthia and Denise propelled several reasonably intriguing topics into the paths less traveled. Fun

10) Secret Rule 1.3
