TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is the Wakefield Doctrine’s contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop. Since it’s first appearance, twenty-nine years ago in 1997, the TToT has been a weekly writing exercise for those of us at this here blog here. …. oh yeah! And we totally, like, baste ourselves in the reflective sauce of the gratitude poured out by other writers and participants.

…too much?

lol

No, wait! Lets start with a music vid:

…ok, we’re not really different than any other Reader, (at least, of a certain provenance), and we’re totally chrono-linked to certain albums and songs from the 1960s and 1970s

1) Una (below watching Phyllis drive off)

2) Phyllis (above, turning to wave at the doggy in the window)

3) the Wakefield Doctrine (because, if you are one of them people what have questions about the world around you and the people who make it up and…and! you’ve realized that certain questions are not as discussion-friendly as others, then the Doctrine is for you). Hey! Got a cover blurb for the ‘damn-I-better-write-it,-I-ain’t-getting-more-energetic’ Doctrine-Book-to-Be’

If you find the material annoyingly familiar, you’ve made the right choice in buying this book. PS Your lips are moving and no one else is laughing with you, take this book home.’

4)…found it! (Short version: have owned pretty much every Hendrix albums but then, all of a sudden, they took away all the record players. While the internet is our primary source of music, for one reason or another, this particular version of the song was nowhere to be found. As in, ‘clark? why have you been listening to the first five seconds of that song for that last two hours? the grass needs cutting…again!’

Anyway here it is, in it’s ‘sure, this is an eight-by-ten foot room with cinderblock walls, and post-adolescents on all sides, maybe I should see what life has to offer… but let’s play ‘Hear my train a’comin’ one more time‘ form.

5) *Long and, not-so-much-inspiring-as-either: a)reinforcement of the value of perseverance or 2) cautionary tale of too much value placed on an artifact from the past… Seeing how so much of our writing is anchored (or, perhaps, more accurately), umbilical’d to my early life makes less surprising the idea that one version of one song might persist in life as ‘gotta find that song’.

6) Hey! The quick(ish) brown fox is back. ’bout 6:23 this morning he/she was trotting loping ambling along the path just outside the fence… here’s a pitcha (in Grat #7)

7) The quick brown fox (QBF) (Remind us to either: learn to move more quickly to pick up my phone and open the camera app or invent a time machine and de-age myself to about the mid-twenties.

There’s an idea for a story. A time machine that doesn’t take you back to…whenever, rather a machine to changes you (the contemporary you) back (or forwards? eewww no! not forwards)…. but that might be a hook, the younger you get, the old you bounce back to!)

We will stop typing now. lol

8) …and so, after you’ve accomplished what required you to be ‘younger’, there’d be a slingshot effect. The inference is while the MC might dream of being younger, they get trapped into the process and must contend with age.

[Hey! Nick! Denise, Mimi!! …. that there sounds like a story we oughta write.]

9) something, something

10) Secret Rule 1.3 [in part]…” words are a lot like vegetable beef soup, pretty good but some times, there’s like a lima bean lurking below the oily sheen… ya gotta take the chance.”

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

    I’m in.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      excellent

(as a clark, I’m fighting the temptation to indulge in one my people’s favorite things, ‘getting ready, organizing and preparing to …do something’. lol)

Genuine first topic of discussion: forum? we gots a Café that I know one of (well, all of) the owners… we could set up shop there.
      to be cont’d

Looking forward to whatever this becomes, lots to learn, practice self-publish etc

      • Spira says:

Definitely set up shop there…coordinate with the owner in charge of the budget😉
Looking forward also (literally & metaphorically)

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

will be suggesting we try something (with the new time travel story) a little uncharacteristic for me… lets see how much fun, how improved my writing, how interesting it would be to do something less than a novel length thing… novella or, even short story?

  2. To sound like (you fill in on your end, lol), this post is magical. No. No explanations required. It is true.

Ya know…I saw the magic marker outline of the QBF but….
*close your eyes, curl your fingers…*

Love the idea of meeting at the Café. Makes perfect sense. OK if our avatars are there as well? (enjoying my “perspective” today 😎).

Count me in. ‘Cuz, ya know. #10

The idea is intriguing, although i’m not sure how many years i’d be willing to give up in pursuit of being younger for a while

We need to celebrate Lima Bean Respect Day the next time it comes up..

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      lol
glad you said that… will be suggesting we try something (with the new time travel story) a little uncharacteristic for me… lets see how much fun, how improved my writing, how interesting it would be to do something less than a novel length thing… novella or, even short story?

and given everyone’s schedule, what part of the process each of us would like to contribute to (consistent with keeping if fun aka with respect to our ‘real’ world demands and responsibilities) the endeavor… betcha we can come up with something

  4. Cynthia says:

Okay so I read the Time Machine and that is CLASSIC! Though your time machine reality would be far superior.
Una is such a cutie! Does she get to go to the office with you? At least sometimes? Cuz I see her often looking after Phyllis, but…does she have to look after you when you’re leaving?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

She used to go to work with Phyllis, way long ago, but she likes her couch (at the picture window…kinda her office) to be able to warn us of marauding rabbits and zombie squirrels and amphetamine-addled deers and the occasional Amazonian.

So, if you read my reply to Mimi* this project seems to offer an opportunity to not only weave a dream into semi-reality but also a way to develop enhanced skills… but the main thing is that (and I think Nick and Denise will agree) it presents and opportunity for each of us to explore and learn about the ways of the Outsider when telling a story aka writing on the internets. Specifically, the project will (if possible) be scalable to each of the participants in as many elements as we can: a) demands of time (from our respective ‘real’ worlds); 2) roles we take on in the writing; 3) what we agree is a reasonable goal for the story (not merely plot and narrative but what is the best approach we, as individuals, can take to maximize the generalized benefit of the project and 4) you know, the rest of it, being a clark and all lol …. but before you say no (uh oh, secondary scottian aspect just grabbed the keyboard lol) think of this, ‘the Story in Search of a Title’ project as possibly a thing that will let you recapture the fun the internet was in the beginning, ie like the potential of being a freshman but with the growing assurance of starting your Junior year.
If any of that last made you smile…
      sign here
      lol
      just kidding

      (no… right there)

How big is a quick brown fox? We have red fox, and they are small and kind of mangey looking most of the time. Saw one the other day behind school and it had a tail like a possum. Thinking it’s either because of the heat (because who needs to curl up with a bushy tail in 100+ degree heat?) or because it was very not well.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

small(ish) mostly brown, tail like it just came off the antenna on the showroom floor… well groomed. would guess weight in the low-to-mid forties
