Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Where’d we leave off last week?

(damn… forgotten appointment (yeah… the worst of all… the dentist!)

I’ll return later this am surely there will be insightful insights

…later this same day:

I survived. A routine cleaning, but you never know. …ya know?

Actually it was a good morning. My hygienist is a clark. This presents an interesting opportunity, in that its been only in the last year or two that I’ve mentioned the Wakefield Doctrine.

Being a clark, she immediately ‘got it’. (We laughed today about the fact that part of the reason that clarks get the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine so quickly is that nearly all clarks having been doing the same thing in their minds for most of their lives, i.e. trying to make sense of the world.

In any event, we talked Doctrine. It always extra fun to describe our little personality theory to some one new to it… watching the irises expand on the first descriptions of the reality of the Outsider(clarks), the laughter when describing Predators(scotts) and the happy acceptance at hearing the ways of the Herd Member(roger).

Our conversation had much to expand upon, in posts this week, though the following stood out.

The thing about meeting with other clarks is that it allows us to hear what we’re saying in a higher fidelity feedback than is possible when talking to scotts and rogers, and that lead to a newer insight… the collective noun for scotts is ‘pack’ and for rogers is Herd. Thing is when talking about the Doctrine to another clark, there is no need for external validation (from scotts and rogers). This is contrast to most other matters in the life of a clark, when we find the need for validation from the ‘real’ people (scotts and rogers) overwhelming.

Lets talk about that later this week.

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Hope you’re feeling okay after the dentist :) “External validation”–I have minimal need for it, I think; as a recluse, mine typically arrives (or is denied) by those inside the laptop screen :) Pondering whether Bedelia might be a 4th Doctrine category… Take care!

made it through the visit (only a cleaning… but very sensitive dentition)

      • Jael Stevens says:

I have major dental (childhood) issues–which cause me to shudder empathetically whenever I hear someone’s had a dentist appointment, even for cleanings :) PS: if I’ve lost favor with you re 6SS, I sincerely apologize.

          ayyiee
(I will not wax dramatic about whatever combination of miscreant neurons and mis-seeing of blogs… though, I will submit, as a form of character witness, that I was wondering what happened to the week’s installment of ‘Tapestry last Friday. alas, the slight-of-mind had already moved the ball*)

          * in the ‘almost everything is interesting if one’s standards for reality are flexible enough’ way of relating to the world… I marvel (and shudder) at the non-reliability of reality… i.e. no lack of interest in your serial story, just that the most recent installment (for reasons that may or may not make it into the subplot of some story) in this week’s SSS, wasn’t there when I looked**

** see! I typed ‘this week’ as I did not experience the post that you surely posted last week, this being, like Tuesday a week later… I rest my case.

          • Jael Stevens says:

We (I) don’t really need to go on and on about this…perhaps you missed my 6SS because, instead of waiting till midnight to post it, I followed the example of someone else and posted it prior to midnight (not a brilliant idea, so I’ll go back to waiting till the Cinderella hour :) ). Have a good week and a great SIX :) See you ’round.

            • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

ah the twists and turns in the ‘sphere! (Jeez… it’s a huge thing to write a Six (never mind, an installment in a serial story… with out surprise logistics!)

Never one to not spot an opportunity, now that your last installment has become visible (to me) if you don’t mind, I’ll treat myself to a double chapter read… waiting until Thursday to read, ha!)

              • Jael Stevens says:

:) You’re quite free to do as you like, my serial-writing friend :) It’s not my intention to burden any blog-visitor with obligations. And if my original comment needs clarification–it IS my desire to be respectful of “regular readers” (and anyone else), and to inquire if I’ve misspoken (mis-commented?) in a way that has caused offense or wounds. Thus, if a “regular” misses an episode, my Bedelia-side’s default is to offer an apology, whether needed or not :)

And I may as well add here, in hopes of preventing dire confusion–the upcoming 6SS post includes a note that, ultimately, all the Bedelia stories will be on her own blog (which connects to my current one). This, because a few folks have shown interest in how “all this Bedelia” began.

I only hope I’m not burning up the possibility of “real” publication (book form)–rumors are that major publishing firms spurn manuscripts which have already appeared as blog posts… Ah well, whatever. Catch you on the flipside :)

                • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

that’s an interesting point, the rumors that traditional publishers will not look at manuscripts that have been ‘published’ as a blog or otherwise appeared online.

It is a concern of mine as well, seeing as I don’t seem to the have the temperament (or capacity to delay gratification) to write ‘in private’ until a story/book is complete and ready for publication. I can’t seem to resist the pleasure of feedback on a chapter by chapter basis.

That said, it has long been my goal/dream to get something traditionally published and I’ve come across articles that make reference to a standard for a work being ‘previously published’. I don’t know if I believe it. (I do know I’d rather it not be true).

All this is, for me, still moot as I haven’t found an agent yet. I’ve read of writers finding smaller publishing houses and submitted directly, but I am still very early in the process. (Ayiiee! How can something so simple as Synopsis be so difficult)…. but then, maybe my thinking is base on a flawed premise, i.e. that writing the synopsis is supposed to be simple.

…in any event, only recently I’ve begun to refocuse my efforts on finding an agent and if I can get anyone to talk to me I’ll surely be asking about ‘previously published’… I’ll let you know.

For now I have to get back into sending out submissions wherever and hope I get a ‘request for full manuscript’ (hell, I’ll be happy to hear ‘more chapters’)

Thanks for the ear on this topic. ‘Talking’ out loud about it helps get it free of my head and therefore less ponderous a task.

                  • Jael Stevens says:

I really appreciate you sharing about this, as writing (for pleasure and “fans”) is the Easy Part…it’s sweaty work to get published and make a living at it…oh dear, I’m exhausted just writing those words, haha!

  2. Thank heaven for dentists, they help us keep our teeth for a lifetime if we let them. Yes, i am weird, and i own it.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

lol… no, I agree as I was on the track to having portable teeth when I was fortunate enough to side-step my aversion to dentists*

*childhood issue, of course…. should save it for the fiction …lol

  3. Jael Stevens says:

PS: I see the :)’s do not translate into smiles here…they are meant to show amiable intentions, i.e., “smiles”🙂
