Six Sentence Story -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

This is the Six Sentence Story bloghop.

Denise is our host.

The rules require stories be of Six, (and only Six), sentences in length.

This is a Ian Devereaux week, so what follows is the next installment in ‘the Case of the Missing Fig Leaf

This week’a prompt word:

DISTANCE

Like a champion cliff diver being heckled by a suicide response team, Leanne swung her gaze from the dark roast blend in the bone china mug and looked up at me, “I need to know what happened to Elias.”

Beyond the patio of the cafe, in contrast to most travel brochures, the hills in the distance were huddled, as if protecting a secret; I looked at her, “As your private investigator, I’ll stop looking when you say, ‘Stop looking.'”

“Yet you’re here as my friend as well.”

“The same standards apply;” as she replied, I was appreciating why this part of Europe is the preferred setting for tales of dark magic and deals with the Devil, and so, was spared the full power of her smile; to say Leanne could convey a message with nothing more than an eyebrow or a tilt of a shoulder pulling at the corner of her lips was like saying the United Nations General Assembly was culturally diverse; I continued, “I’ve been known to engage resources that are less, how to say, traditional…”

“You got a guy?”

“Oh, far more than that, ‘I got a woman…’ in Chicago; lets just say, if the Delphi oracle were a real thing, smokin hot and insanely dangerous, she might qualify to work for the woman who runs the Omni Corporation; trust me when I say, just telling you her name is Anya Claireaux puts both our lives at risk.”

Wednesday -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘Clean-up to Aisle 8! Footnote/citation spill… proceed with caution.’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

…where were we?

Would (it) be interesting to compare the content, if not the underlying intentions, of anyone inclined to take part in the pan-cultural practice of New Year’s Resolutions.(?)

Who just said, ‘Well, if your Doctrine is as useful a perspective on the world and the people who make it up, what can it tell us about how people might behave during this traditional time of reflection and projection?”

I have one more day before Thursday to complete our Wakefield Doctrine look at New Years and the tentacles of our past.

(to be cont’d)

Fine.

The subject of my report  post today is…. (lol channeling imaginary memories* from Jr and Sr High School) what is New Year’s Eve from the perspective of the three predominant worldviews (aka the three personality types) of the Wakefield Doctrine?

Easy!

…No!, really its easy…. (Warning! Warning… False Bravado Alert, Stop before it’s too late!2)

For New Years Eve:

  • rogers(Herd Members) they’ve never left the party… time is of secondary value to our rogerian brethren, as emotion is achronolgic, (as in, ‘immune to Time’). They will dress as all the other revelers and wait for Guy Lombardo to officiate (or Dick Clark or Iced T***) or whoever the current cultural figurehead of the Herd
  • scotts(Predators) they enjoy the suspending of social norms historically a part of a New Year’s Eve celebration. Let ’em have five steps towards the door, just of this one time (lol)
  • clarks(Outsiders) like a combination of watching the chimney from St. Peter’s Square, staying under the blankets until there is a non-you-generated sound that does not include: sonovabitch… crying or well, it was New Year’s Eve.

Thats it for today.

Tomorrow (New Years’ Eve day) will be a Six Sentence Story day.

(Hey! Just remember that, no matter what happens, the Wakefield Doctrine understands)

(From song frag this morning)

* that’s right, imaginary memories… we would submit that for all three personality types, ‘im-mems’ can be as ‘real’ and consequential as actual, look-I’ll-show-you-the-scar/paperwork/Polaroid recollections of past events… ‘ceptin clarks are the only ones, (of the three), emotionally and intellectually capable of acknowledging the duality** while maintaining, (hell, enhancing the potential of learning the secret)… because, as we all know, if you’re on the Outside, there is no quantifying the territory.1

** obviously a survival trait to those of us who live in the world of the Outsider(clarks)… after all, if the only thing truly important to us is to discover the information we lack/were-deprived-of/missed-that-day-in-class when it was taught, i.e. the knowledge imparted to scotts and rogers allowing them to live life as ‘a part of’.

*** lol (though I’me sure that can’t be any kind of original)

  1. it (the reality of the Outsider) is surely limitless
  2. Speaking of Warnings that come too late… there is a traditional warning we, as a courtesy, extend to New Readers, to the effect: If you’re enjoying this blog, then you are likely to read about clarks, scotts and rogers. That’s not the problem. Reading leads to understanding the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers to the point you, (the New Reader), will begin to identify the predominant worldview of the people in your world. That is still not the problem. If you persist in your studiesi, you may find yourself unable to not see the clarks, scotts and rogers in your world. You have been warned.

i: the practical goal, or ambition, of those of us who include the perspective of the Wakefield Doctrine in our every day world is to understand the ‘native language’ of the three personal realities that make up this here personality theory here… big job. However, like any language, there is an inherent problem with translation from one (personal) reality to the other. Speaking only for myself, I can offer: fresh snow, ice-crust snow and ‘damn, won’t this ever melt snow. Surely that is far less encyclopedic than a clark living north of the Arctic Circle.

Tuesday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Would (it) be interesting to compare the content, if not the underlying intentions, of anyone inclined to take part in the pan-cultural practice of New Year’s Resolutions.(?)

Who just said, ‘Well, if your Doctrine is as useful a perspective on the world and the people who make it up, what can it tell us about how people might behave during this traditional time of reflection and projection?”

lol

Speaking only for ourselfs, the past year has been one of forward progress and increasing resistance (from within).

It seems incontrovertible, (if not inevitable), that the more we effect change, the greater the impulses to resist, or, failing that, to indulge in the romance of the past. (This, of course, is a deliberately fanciful way to describe the conservative element of our personal realities. It’s only natural. While the famous saying maintains, ‘Nature abhors a vacuum‘, we would suggest that, ‘The attraction of the past is directly proportional to the degree of novelty in the present.’)

whoa… wth?!?!

ok, ok, a little more elaboration, but then back to our typically provocative claims of insight and understanding. Our current proof-of-concept project, my participation of a live video weekly real estate series, is what our literary friends might refer to the inciting incident.*

Gone over my time limit.

Given that its still Tuesday, I have one more day before Thursday to complete our Wakefield Doctrine look at New Years and the tentacles of our past.

(to be cont’d)

*gotta break character for a minute. What roger convinced all the bros(and broinae) that the term should be ‘inciting incident’. I get what they’re going for, (and totally agree to its function), but talk about ‘more is more’!  Just so you don’t think we’re being unnecessarily sensitive on the matter of the rogerian view of labels and titles and words and such… a brief reminder of what is arguably the most obvious, (in the sense of being easily perceivable to people of the ‘other two’ worldviews**), characteristic and idiosyncratic qualities of the Herd Member. (I totally looked up the definition in a compare-one-to-the-other sense. lol they’re both appropriate. damn! is this Doctrine fun or what?)

rogerian expression: the passive-aggressive misuse of words and language, distinguishing characteristic (and total identifier), is it’s capacity to force the listener to burst into laughter. There’s probably a really cool, Greco-Klingon word for the state of being startled into laughter, but we don’t know it. Consider the following examples of rogerian expression and, if you haven’t heard them before and react as predicted (those with a predominant rogerian worldview not eligible to respond), and know the word, totally let us know.

First recorded rogerian expression. When asked at dinner one night by his wife, Camille, if he wanted more mashed potatoes, Roger replied, No thanks, I think I’ll surpass on that

(other examples):

…looking at his paycheck, a roger was heard to say: Oh man! Look at how much they deducted for aggravated security

…talking about  a new DVD release for a movie: No, I’m going to wait until they release the un-abashed edition.’

…about to talk to a client: ‘I know I have to give them the bad news with the good news, I just won’t baby-coat it’

(and the most recent recorded rogerian expression)…

…writing in a blog about how egotistical certain real estate agents tend to be, an unknown roger wrote: I have to say that as a professional class, most agents are much too self-absorbent…’

** clarks and scotts, of course.

Monday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Here’s a story-ette. It is grounded in the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine. It is short.*

“The brochures say all the rooms face directly out to the ocean and there’s a special kind of air conditioning, it brings in the salt air even though the windows don’t open.”

Ashley’s voice filled the interior of the small car as it turned off the state highway and onto the white, granulated-shell drive that tunneled through the swaying green wall of young pine grove. The truce between her heart and what she knew was-best-for-everyone, carefully established two hours before as she carried a single suitcase from her mother’s home, broke on a jagged inflection, as ‘salt air’ tripped and stumbled over a lifetime of memories.

The steering wheel of the small convertible acquired an un-natural ease of motion beneath her hands, as they broke from the permanently green forest and approached the long, low building. Taking her foot off the accelerator, the car continued to roll towards the entrance, marked in silent letters, ‘The Memory Center’. The battle within Ashley continued with the irrational faith in unanticipated intervention characteristic of all Pyrrhic battles.

If the car stops in front of the door, ok. If it doesn’t, we can go home.

She shut her eyes.

Had there been an observer directly behind her with the proper angle to capture the reflection of both women, they would have seen the emotions filling the space between the daughter and the mother, find their place. Peace in acceptance is often difficult to distinguish from the acceptance of peace.

* we have two serial stories that run on alternate weeks at the Six Sentence Story bloghop. While not six sentences in length, the above is very much a prompt-driven affair. (I was perusing Facebook this morning and came across a post centered on something charming about very old people. Although not directly interested, the caption read, in part: “She lives in a memory care center near the town of…“)  Very much like the old days of this blog**, I was possessed of a feeling to feel more…

** no! I don’t mind, laughing with me at the irony
