Phinish the Sentence Phfiday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Our hosts, Kenya and Kristi, are advising us that this week, the FTSF falls on Photo Friday; (of the cycle of themes contained in the FTSF bloghop). Best let Kristi ‘splain,

OMG it’s almost June!?!?? We’re on tonight with Photo Share Friday – simply share a photo and the story behind it! The linkup will go live tonight (May 24) at 10pm eastern and stay open through late Sunday night.
We hope to see you there!

OMG indeed!

The story of the photo above:

A photo of the West Greenwich Baptist Church. It’s a real church in a real town in Rhode Island, in the ‘real’ world. It’s one of those photos that, although not intentionally harboring a subliminal message, certainly lends itself to a certain, ‘What the hell?’ reaction. In some of us*.

In the interest of fun, I will leave forego stating my opinion regarding the creepy thing here. After a while, I’ll return and add, “But,  but! what about ….”

* a compliment, of sorts, as the predominant demographic, in the corner of the ‘sphere I can be found, includes those with the quality we sometimes refer to as flexible perspective.

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. I do love that picture.
Hey! Thanks for the nod to the SSS word of the week!

  2. phyllis says:

I love the bars keeping everyone inside (for eternity?). There is nothing like Baptist churches in RI. I wonder if their Easter Egg hunt happens in the graveyard next door like the Exeter church did until very recently.

  3. Flexible perspective – Love it! That church is creepy. Why are the windows all boarded up? Is it still open? Or do they open the windows when people go to it? Inquiring minds want to know, man!

PS you hadn’t added your link to the linkup and I’m assuming (in my flexible perspective) that this was an over site…therefore, I added it for you. Hope that’s ok.

Okay, that photo was just enough to send me searching on the internet to learn more. The thing that I found so interesting was the repositioning of where the pulpit was going to be. At first when I saw the two doors I thought perhaps the men entered in one door and sat on that side of the room and the women entered on the other side and sat there, but that wasn’t the case. It sounds like it was more just entering to one aisle or the other. It sounds like having the boarded up windows and locked doors is because of the vandalism in the cemetery and building. The other history, well I’ll let others read and decide what they think.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Such a simple design (for a church) which ya gotta like, but that two entrance things reminds of how some thing do change….

for me (when I drove by the church the first time) it was: doors barred….from the outside, to, one can only presume to keep something inside.

  5. Well for starters, imagine being in there without the lights on and being locked in. It may be a church but I think I’d be scared. Except for noticing the cemetery in the back I don’t think I would have thought it was a church. Nice share.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Up here in New England, the plain design is not all that un-common. As Pat referred to, the two separate doors is also a feature common to certain sects to have men and women’s entrances as (and I have to do more reading on this) the men and women were divided by the central aisle.
Of course, thats not weird (lol) thats just creepy old sexism; the weird part (in the appearance) is that they seem to be locking something in, or more, they are preventing something inside from escaping.

  6. I am not reading other comments… just to say for me it’s the barred windows. Ugh. What if there’s a fire and no one can get in??
Also from your title, I thought this was going to be a photo from a Phish concert..haha

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

you have a gentler perspective than I…. I might say, ‘what if there’s a fire and whatever is being restrained by the four walls and barred doors, can get out?

I have never been to a Phish concert… but then, I did not avail myself of the opportunity to see the Dead, back in the Dead.
