Monday Morning Carrot Cake -the Wakefield Doctrine- ‘I went down to the crossroads, tried to beg a ride’

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

goin down to Rosedale, try to beg a ride

Friend of the Doctrine, zoe, has this blog, Carrot and on Monday’s does a rather cool ‘hop. People are invited to send in something (they’ve done) in the way of expressing creativity. Of course, creativity is as creativity does, so zoe reaches out beyond the blogosphere and invites everyone and anyone to send samples of their efforts in on Mondays. très cool, non?

Anyway. Every gallery opening has, like hors-d’oeuvres and canapés (usually arranged on stainless steel serving dishes, following a clever thematic… er  theme!), the Wakefield Doctrine brought the soda and little meatballs and such.

Blogdominion Monday!  Chapter 21 is out and readable! Hey, moving towards the climax of the story. You can wait for it to come out in print (open to suggestions of editors and the like), or you can read it the old-fashioned way, as it unfolds! (Start at the Prologue…. take a day off from work, half a day if you’re a fast reader and don’t have any distractions at home. Anyone hassle you on it, the Doctrine will send you a ‘(Your Name) totally needs a little time to read the complete serial. Now back the hell off!’ to take to work or wherever.)

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

I take it you’re talking Rosedale, MS with the Piggly Wiggly, not Rosedale, Queens, NY. I can see how creative and motivating your sharing is.

correctomundo! (so, while we wait for the others, a little story about that trip*): since I was on a mission for the Doctrine, I had no fear. Across from the crossroads (if I can find the vid) is Miss Esther’s Gas and Eat so I went in to get some gas and a bottle of water. The place was empty except for the girl behind the counter and a friend of her’s apparently visitin I stand politely in line… finally after a while, there is a pause in the conversation and the girl ahead of me in line turns her head and notices me. I smile a clarksmile. The girl completes here sentence with the friend behind the counter. She says goodbye. She leaves the store. I step smartly up to the counter and put my bottle of water on the counter and have my wallet out to pay the $3.23 The girl behind the counter turns back from saying goodbye to her friend. I smile. She looks up at me. A customer walks into the store and heads back to the beer and wine section. The girl behind the counter looks at my bottle of water. I start to take out some money. The girl behind the counter looks at me. The other customer in the store says something unintelligible. The girl behind the counter answers and receives an affirmative-sounding response. The girl behind the counter looks up at me and smiles. I smile back. The girl behind the counter picks up my bottle of water and looks at it. The customer gets in line behind me. The girl behind the counter looks up at him and smiles. I turn slightly and nod a greeting. The girl behind the counter looks at the bottle of water I was purchasing, in her hand and puts it down on the counter. She rings up the amount. Another customer comes into the store and says hello to the interior of the store. The girl behind the counter looks up and smiles and says hello. The guy behind me turns and says hello to the new customer. The new customer stops and begins to talk to the man behind me in line. The girl behind the counter looks at the water bottle in her hand and says, ‘will that be all?’ I put a $5.00 bill on the counter. She waits. I say, ‘yes’. The girl behind the counter looks down at the bottle of water and then rings up the amount. I look at the five on the counter. The girl behind the counter looks at me and says, ‘That’ll be $3.23’. I look back at her. She looks at me. I…. (to be cont’d!!!)

      * a real writing challenge to convey the essential element of the story, i.e. the character of time in a different culture

Like when a Jersey Girl needs to adjust to the time and space of NC without trying to seem to “Damn Yankee.”

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

it was amazing…. clearly a different rate of subjective time existed in the culture down there. we’re all familiar with the idea of ‘slower pace’ in some (particularly rural) cultures but I was like, that episode of Twilight Zone (and countless other stories) where I was in a place where time stood (nearly) still

      very cool

  3. valj2750 says:

They even let you stand at the counter and put your change away instead of moving on to the next customer. I experience a “turn your idle down” transition when I’m South of Maryland.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

(even being a clark*) I must of been a blur… lol (we actually see that in our local culture, when people from Manhattan come to our area on vacation in the Summer)

*not exactly the fastest moving life form on the planet

Let me guess: carrot cake is a favorite of clarks. Because, you know, aside from cheesecake, carrot cake tops my list. I can’t get enough of that stuff when I’m around it.

I should like…learn how to make it. :)
