Wednesday -the Wakefield Doctrine- of boredom and clarks and….whatever

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

…sorta, but this one is making an effort to blend in, pass as a 'real person'

This Monday past, I referred to a discussion on the Saturday Night Call-in on the subject of clarks and (a) propensity for boredom. Is it a (significant) ‘feature’ in the clarklike personal reality (worldview)?

But before we get to that, Chapter 20 of the Serial Novel, ‘Blogdominion‘ is out and available for your Reading pleasure! Click here to read the Chapter. Click here to start at the beginning of the story.

…ok, back to boredom.

Are there any questions?  lol

(man! got way zen on that bad boy!  non?)

yes!! whoever out there said, “footnotes and axterixes!!!! that’ll keep us interested!!”1

1) so who was that?!?!  a clark, I’m sure. But the point is taken. ‘We like people’ need novelty the way that Casanova needed beautiful women.  If you want to know why, one needs to ask, ‘what is the ‘purpose’ behind everything that a clark does from waking up in the morning until going to sleep at night?’  I’ll leave that to our Readers, because when that question is answered, the follow-up question will produce the answer to our original question.  Lets close this short post with a bullet list of the questions to be answered!*

  1. why do clarks have such a low boredom threshold
  2. what is it that clarks want more than anything
  3. does, (fill in the blank with one (or more) of the remarkably creative and/or impressive: acts/actions/hobbies-for-a-weekend/avocations-for-a-lifetime/hidden talent/obvious shortcoming/’hey-I-didn’t-know-you-could-do-that!/my god! why-are-you-hiding-that-remarkable-part-of-you/you-know-you-really-shouldn’t-put-yourself-down-like-that/if-you-gave-yourself-a-chance-you-might-surprise-yourselfs, exhibited by clarks), in fact, accomplish that?

*and, no, you’re right…while getting feedback and a different view from our scottian and rogerian friends can be useful, that is not the answer either! (well, in part, because we do know that what they see in us is true, after all, we all retain the potential of all three worldviews! it’s just that (totally giant hint): it comes down to the non-rational quality of emotion, how do clarks feel about themselves….

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. “how do clarks feel about themselves….”

Don’t fall for that guys…it’s a trick question! LOL
We clarks are all inside o our heads. It is “understanding” first, and “feeling” second. Unless, we get hijacked by our rogerian aspect.

I agree with “the sentence that was made” by you Clark, once upon a time, that the questions are more important than the answers. And so the questions you have asked of us (readers) are at the core of all clarks. Will these questions lead us to the answers? The answer(s) we spend an entire lifetime trying to find.. looking ever – y where.

Rebutt this – I would submit that the boredom thing, the need for “novelty” is in part directly linked to our creative self. Finding/exploring/expressing our creative drive.

clarks are constantly looking for the key to the thing that will make them “like everyone else”.

From as early as 5 or 6, I “knew I was different”. To the core of my body. Always asking myself why? I spent clear on up to about age 20 totally despising myself. Why?! Because I wasn’t “like everyone else”, I didn’t fit in. And how can you argue with people who tell you directly, “gee Denise, you’re not like everyone else, you’re different” or my favorite, “….yeah, you’re left of center”. That one makes me smile to this day lol Do not misunderstand – I didn’t believe because people told me, it was not a self fullfilling prophesy thing. It was what I knew to be true. The “world out there” was validating my personal reality.

Enter the Wakefield Doctrine. I’ve spent years observing, “experimenting” and trying to learn the language. It’s a slow process and yes, I wish I’d had the Doctrine as a kid but as long as I’m breathing, I can work towards being a well rounded, “evolved” …..clark, which is to say, having the ability to access my scottian and rogerian aspects easily, naturally.

Have a most excellent day everyone!

thanks for the reminderation of that excellent perspective, i.e. it is the question (we ask) that shapes the answer we (might) find

“clarks are constantly looking for the key to the thing that will make them “like everyone else”.” to this accurate view, I will suggest adding, ‘to become ‘a part of’, to belong’ which are, of course, functions of the result of not being different.

the answer is always where we can see…. (the most delightfully annoying ‘wise saying’, at least to a clark, is the old zen master’s pronouncement, ‘If you have to ask the question, you can’t understand the answer’

The story of a clark: will resonate with clarks everywhere, me thinks. One time, my next-youngest sister called me “Stuck Up” and wouldn’t talk to me for a year – when I was fourteen and she was twenty-six (!) because she thought I was ‘snooty.’ I didn’t know what to think. So, I just continued on my way. Eventually she realized that I was in my own world, reading books, taking in the world, and didn’t really relate to her rogerian ways….

    • Denise says:

Cyndi, your comment will resonate with clarks everywhere :) I faced the same problem growing up (and still face!) with folks (yes, family member(s) who believe(ed) I think/thought myself superior. If they only knew LOL
Unapproachable? Haughty? Kind of conflicts with the “nice” label doesn’t it? :D
Choose any one synonym for “stuck up” and yeah, we clarks have been labeled such.
      Thanks for chiming in!

very good. this (your example) is one of the aspects of the Wakefield Doctrine in which it cannot but be helpful. it (your) example embodies the entire Doctrine: the behavior of a person in one worldview being interpreted by another in a different worldview, and not only does the other person not ‘correctly’ react to our behavior, but our own lives are (further) shaped by the subsequent actions and reactions..

notice, Readers, that I used the word ‘interpreted’, I did not say misunderstood or incorrectly viewed… because, to a roger (worldview of the herd) deliberately separating oneself from the Herd is hardly ever a good thing… and for us, the clarks, the accusation of snootosity is a cut most deep, as it is at our core that we would want to be included….
the key lesson is that worldview, aka personal reality is real, but there are three of them, so when we seek to connect with, understand, share feelings, chase and hunt another person, we must allow for an interpretation that may fly in the face of what we ‘know’ must be true about the other person’s behavior

This is probably the single most revelatory post and comment stream i have read at this here doctrine…. Its good to see it all in one place…often it gets dispensed in bits and pieces…very satisfying post…. Of course being a good clark its never quite enough is it? Lol!

and (as is inferred) clarks have a certain insidiously charming manipulative aspect to theyselfs
