Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
Mid-Summer Edition of the 10 Things of Thankful.
!) Joy Christi for giving of her time and not inconsiderable talent on Thursday’s Guest Post Thursday Guest Post. She is a scott and we are very grateful that she consented to writing for our weekly series. While there is no pre-set theme or ‘organizing view’ being imposed on our Guests, there is nevertheless an understanding, on the part of Readers of all these Posts. The Doctrine maintains that it is possible to appreciate the world as the other person is experiencing it. Consider each Thursday an opportunity to see through the eyes of another, who, we are being given the advantage to know, is an Outsider(clark) or a Predator(scott) or a Herd Member(roger). Kinda like Doctrine practice, but with jokes and pictures and other things, but without, unfortunately team uniforms.
@) vidchats enjoyable chatation last night. Lizzi and I opened the evening on a more formal note, with her just in from a night on the town, still in evening dress. we were joined by Denise (going old school with audio only) then, a rather pleasant surprise…Jean! followed by Laura and zoe (all too briefly) and Michelle (from tomorrow) and finally Joy. fun, informative (we did hear from Christine who reported that she was either: a) driving on a van on vacation or 2) sitting in a Formula1 car, waiting to start the race…wasn’t too clear on that…
#) Cars
$) dogs (Una, of course)
%) video phones
^) and an enthusiasm for an idea, (the Wakefield Doctrine), that overcomes all sense of what is ‘interesting to others’ (as opposed to) what is ‘interesting only to me’ (for a sleeker look to today’s 10 List…here is link to vid)
&) (as I alluded to in this week’s vid entry (Item Number ^ above), I am constantly and permanently grateful for the fun that Lizzi and the 9 hostinae bring to this weekly exercise in finding the better side of life. In fact, I believe I made this point in a Comment to someone last week, to the effect that, though the idea of a gratitude-based bloghop is not unique, the attitude and fun that permeates the TToT is…
*) Secret Book of Rules (aka Book of Secret Rules) I mentioned to L last night that there are more and more new participants this Summer. Which is a good thing. The questions about the BoSR are not un-expected and, in fact, welcomed. ‘The Book’ is full of useful, fun, potentially-backfire-and-make-you-look-silly, clever and, at times life saving rules, exceptions, provisions and conditions that can be employed in the process of writing a TToT list. The only caveat, is that there are (said to be) Seven GuardVirgins who hold the power to judge the appropriateness of a Rule. Lizzi and zoe are our resident experts on these….. er personages. Best check with them. (you know the most fun about a lot of this bloghop? it’s discovering and coining words and such. I’m thinking of Sarah who, unless I’m mistaken, has made popular the reference ‘SGV’…. seems like a little thing, but cool nonetheless)
() as always, I gotta cite my personal sine qua non…. the Wakefield Doctrine
!)) Hey! new people!! free tip on the BoSR (aka SB0R)….SR 1.3 (which states, in part: the completion of a list of Ten Things, may, in fact, be included and cited as an item of that selfsame list; provided that it isn’t used every week and gets, you know, like old….)

So we’re talking Outsider, Predator, Herd Member.
always
Always quote Wm S.
I loved our vidchat – it’s always so nice to catch up and just mull things over.
I quite like that Zoe and I are in charge of the 7GV (better?), and I think my favourite is &)
clark, I have to say the quote you chose ( on Lizzi’s blog) is particularly lovely… one of your favs or just a random pick?
Oh and I too like being a guard to the virgin guards…
even though number 4 keeps talking smack…
truth be known, I went to ‘the google’ found a couple of sites searching on ‘quotes from Midsummer’s Night Dream (non-porn version)’ and read a ton of them… and the one I used is the one I liked the most…
(…a little later), and, …and! in retroflection, this quote do seem to have a application to our favorite personality theory! (am I the only one seeing the parallel or representation or whatever to clarks, scotts and rogers here?)
that’s why I thought you chose it! Nonporn addition of course!
lol
funny, it took me re-reading it (the quote) to see the possible Doctrine in it. and even then, it is not a condemnation of a clark’s limitations, rather it is an admonition for us (clarks) to remember that the world of the scott (madmen) and the rogers (lovers) are within us
… now I have to go back and reread it…hang on.
You know…it really is a great quote. …I see what youre saying re potential vs limitations. ..
Ah, clearer about that secret book of roles now!
Sorry to miss chat last eve. Next time… I wonder if the svg have ever considered crashing the fnvc? Now that would be something… if a virgin ever DOES show up you guys better call me if Im not there!
Ah, did I start that? I do appreciate an abbreviation. I like your Dame Judi/Nicholas Bottom photo up there.
yeah… I love that part of Posts… the images that start one producing one impression and then another as the Post ends up being something other than when it started.
I have to say I think seeing the use of the SBoR/BoSR pop up on people’s lists is one of my favorite parts of the TToT – it’s just this little inside joke kind of thing that always makes me smile.
yeah, me too
Joy is a scott?? Hmm…never would have guessed. We do have fun here, don’t we? All hail the TToT!!
“an Outsider(clark) or a Predator(scott) or a Herd Member(roger)”…Now I have more questions than before.
That just means youre “gettin'” it.
That’s true Zoe. Never thought of it like that!:)
It was my pleasure to serve, but as mere Scottian humble servant, and I think there was a verygood (ish) reason that my Scott-humor muse was nowhere to be found this week, to bring about this pontificating on secondary and tertiary personalities. Or I’m looking for an excuse, either way.
Speaking of TEAM UNIFORMS, if the Scotts don’t wear kilts it’s a huge missed opportunity. IMHO.
The BoSR/SBoR always reminds me of the Maurader’s Map from Harry Potter’s world of magic. I’ll post a link if you’re not familiar, but the best part is to even LOOK at the map you have to tap it with your magic wand and say “I solemnly swear I am up to no good” otherwise when you open it, it’s just blank parchment. I imagine that is how you peruse the SB. Delicious!
If you’re curious: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Marauder's_Map
Joy
(I suspect that my first thought at “…you have to tap it with your magic wand” would automatically disqualify me of it’s use!)
I am still trying to figure out the BoSR and the Seven Guard Virgins and whether I am a Roger or a Clark (leaning toward Roger…).
BoSR muy funito interesting (on the self-assessment) if this turns out to be the case, I totally need to hear from you (yes, that does, in fact, imply that most rogers would not follow that path except for two exceptions we have seen around here, Michelle and Kristi)
keep us in the loop!
Oh, I am feeling particularly clever today, because it didn’t take me the whole post to figure out the numbering system–probably because I’ve hit the shift key in error too often!
thereby throwing light on cleverness! mistakes presented as design! lol
Is it me? Or are there more rogers hangin’ around the place? :D
Just stoppin by to say HI!!
Hope you’ve had a great day!
Cyndi
no, it’s true! (and just so we don’t fall into an unfortunate complacency), they (the herdlette members-to-be) are what I consider to be the exceptional rogers (i.e. high level secondary clarklike aspects)…in fact, it was Kristi who brought us a rogerian worldview artifact, ‘expectations as security’!
…and if you think you detect the sound of rustling in the lower branches of the trees and the quiet sound of smiling teeth, there are more scotts ’round here, than ever before! lol
hahhha… you make Scotts look downright adorable… ( which of course they are…)
I am feeling as clever as Kristi, but only because I read her reply and (then) figured out the Secret Numbering System (SNS) or Numbering System Secret (NSS). Too many secrets and not enough magic wands this week! I love your blog, especially TToT. Here’s to another week with at least 10 decent, or better, things.
we do have fun, no?
@ makes me think we should have a theme night. Prom? No, NOT naked with cake night.
