Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This blogging is a funny thing. Not ‘ha ha’ funny, but weird, am-I-really-that-caught-up-in-this-pastime, funny. Take this morning….please! (barump bump). I have been Posting pretty much daily for the few weeks, with the occasional day off, so this morning I needed to get a Post out, or it would have been two days without a Doctrine post. So I got up early (around 3:30) and sat down at the computorala and… nothin. Not an idea, not a thought, and not even a feeling like I wanted to write.
You want to hear something weird? Well, when I get stalled (writingistically speaking), I often go out in search of photos/images to add to the Post and sometimes I come across an image (or photo) that sparks… gets my mind going. Well, this morning I was doing just that, except I stopped at a blog to read, (not something I do all that often), and came across a line that made me think, ‘huh! yeah!’. (The source is a blog about a movie, I think… and the Post is about the making of Alien). I trust sticking the url (of the page) of the source will provide sufficient attribution. First the quote:
“Nobody respects you later for having been a nice guy and given up, you have to get what you want now, because you’re going to wear what you got. You can be very unpopular on the root, but if you’re right, all is forgiven.” (http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/community/forums/topic/13655)
So, the question you have is, ‘hey! love the quote, why does this make you feel you now have something to say?’
Glad you asked! (lol) As a clark, I totally identify with what I think the author is cautioning against. (yes, I did not say that I identified with the statement, per se.) Such is the nature of the clarklike worldview. We know so much and yet it is all, both the good things (to know) and the bad things (to know) at an arm’s length with us clarks. Yesterday I did a video Post and I tried to express this aspect of the clarklike worldview, the moment when we become clarks, and how, at the moment we do, we lock ourselves in and, …and! to further ‘seal the deal’, we seize upon a solution (a false solution) that not only will not produce the results that we believe it will, it, (this solution), will be the driving force in our expression of our ‘personality type’.
I’ll be back later in the morning. Maybe I’ll try the video thing again.
(OK here is the video… )
THREE THIRTY A-freakin-M!
What the hell, dude!
And I never thought of going searching for quotes or images to inspire, but rather stay there, metaphorically, in front of the blank screen, stuck.

sad to say, I don’t get up in the middle of the night as much as I used to, it’s nice and quiet at that time of day… and the funny thing, the images/photos are the more (effective) mental prompt, I actually don’t spend a lot of time following the links up (from the photo/image)
I am often up at that hour with Dr. Demento (Skip)…He sundowns pretty late…anyhoo…. if that was safer driving …. you DID stay in the lines.
So of course I have many questions….being who I am…but I will stick to one… based on what you put into print above…is the premise of the clark believing he/she is an outsider also a falsehood? Like …. are we reading the signs wrong? Have we seized the wrong solution/conclusion from the start?
Ok… I will stop now… promise…
what is a falsehood?
I believe that I am (an) Outsider, my personality (we would say at the Doctrine) are the behaviors, strategies, interests, tropisms and the rest of the shit that gets caught up in the ‘what the hell is a personality types, really? of one who grew up and developed relating to the world as an Outsider.
The question of whether this is true or not, is a good illustration/demonstration of the rogerian worldview (your putative secondary aspect), as a clark we do not ascribe additional or supplemental value to a belief, opinion or position on the basis of it being ‘true’ or not.
as a tool (and a fun way to entertain oneself that has a fairly low degree of risk of capture, ostracism or special authorities) the Wakefield Doctrine is about how a person relates themselves to the world around them, the cool thing is that these worldviews do seem to correlate and show a constancy in the association of personality traits and qualities and such…. ya know?
I have to confess, I DON’T know…I will have to reread it again…. lol… are you sure you weren’t referring to my puNitive Roger???? HA I crack myself up!
lol
Loved the video post!! Your explaining how young Clark finds out s/he’s a Clark was interesting. It was somehow similar for me, but a good deal of it was initiated by my peers, who decided that I was not one of them. This feeling has stayed, even though I’d like to be part of the herd :-) Can’t stand many Scotts. Have to work with one, and he’s a royal pain :-)

The thing that struck me, in the course of the video, was the idea that, not only is the status of Outsider a fait accompli, once the perception has registered (me and everyone else), but the strategy that we usually settle on is so perfectly flawed, as to reinforce our Outsider status, despite how much we genuinely want to be included.
scotts tend to be a bit exhausting lol
Hahaha, I was going to ride you for being up at that crazy hour too, Clark! Hey, you’re right that it’s a quiet time of the day in the house though. Posting everyday is hard. I don’t have a schedule because that’s like work to me. I post when I feel like it, but when I do feel like it and can’t find inspiration, that is frustrating.
don
yeah… I tend to write in the mornings, having convinced myself that Posting in the afternoon or evenings is not good… my ambition (sitting down at the computer) is to have something, anything to write about and then it’s mostly a matter of ‘writing myself out of it’
(hey, if you really want to walk on the Jetson’s side of blogging… join on the Doctrine Friday Night Vid chat… it’s something)
