TTofT Episode 17 the Wakefield Doctrine (“it’s all related, but then you knew that, didn’t you?”)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

conference-at-night-1

note from Future…now Past: I read all the Posts published as of 7:06 am EDT before  continuing with this version of my TToT, which I should add for the sake of faux accuracy was written late last night. Damn! I now remember why I don’t like to write a Post in more than one ‘sitting’ and why I avoid reading the other Posts (in a given bloghop). Other than vanity and ego, I can’t recall what those reasons are… ha, ha. In any event, Regular Readers know that Saturday tends to be more of a work day than the weekdays are, at least in terms of my having access to a computer throughout the day. As they say in the journalism business,  ‘lets run with the cat in the tree’* so, since time keeps on slippin into, either ‘the future’ or ‘darkness,’ I will continue this Post, already in progress:

I will be grateful if I manage to write a list that will: a) be consistent with the spirit and the intent of this bloghop and 2) offers an insight into how I am affected by those who participate in this here bloghop here (1);

That I have expressed what everyone knows is going to be turned into (one of ) my 10 items, should not be a distraction from the true motivation that I am sorting through as I write these words (2);

I would describe what is going on here is that I seem to be trying to do a totally non-planned Ten Things of Thankful list… although I suspect that I’d be mis-using the term ‘stream of consciousness’ if I were to apply it to this Post. I’d be totally grateful if someone would be kind enough to copy-paste a definition of the term in the Comment section below… don’t worry about causality or anything like that… if the definition contradicts what I am writing, so be it…I’ll still feel grateful that someone cared enough to go to the trouble (3);

You know, I tend to get pretty self-conscious about my writing, especially when I veer off the rhetorical highway, like a literary Clyde Barrow trying to escape capture by Frank Hamer… but, at the moment two forces are at work on me: the belief that the other participants will recognize my ambition towards good-natured fun and the TToT hostini will feel that a little of the outré  will help attract new writers who might be tired of the normal, professional writing that is endemic on these pages if that is the case, I will be happy and grateful (4);

As I approach the peak of the list of ten (as I might picture the halfway point of ‘Number 5’), I am grateful that this Post will cure my co-hosts of their belief that those weird Posts (of clark’s) are really refreshing (5);

Hey, since it’s morning, I have a new perspective to add to this S.O…. (where was I?)… C!  Post. I woke up in the middle of the night from an amazing nightmare, totally old-school horror!  I will put lol here, because as clarks reading this know, we (clarks) find much about our world interesting, including nightmares. As to how I am grateful?… I gotta claim a twofer here… I am grateful that I got over it (the post dream creeps that has your skin crawl as you force yourself to get up and go to the bathroom and then the kitchen… just to speed up the re-set from the dream) and I am grateful for the reminder of the perspective it reminds me that I have… that is is all about here and now. Not about how well I might do at work or at blog writing or at home, it is about what I am at the moment. I accept that this ‘mindfulness’ is a never-goal, that it is a helpful and constructive reminder to live in the moment… (6) and (&)  (7);

Today, this being one of those frickin two-step Posts, I did read everyone’s Post and I will simply say, ‘damn!’  but that’s all I’ll say on the subject! (For the benefit of new participants, I will say that this word is meant to have a certain Martin Lawrence inflection), one of awed admiration for words well arranged. (8);

I will reserve my thoughts on the other Posts for my Comments in each respective entry that makeup this week’s TToT, I will express my un-alloyed enthusiasm for the increasing conversation that is appearing in this bloghop on weekends. I’m convinced that anyone who enjoys blogging would totally enjoy what Lizzi and (my fellow-ette) Hosts do each and every week… so, if you are reading this first, I will say, “Hey! you see a Comment thread that makes you: happy, sad, mad or glad? jump right in yo. we good with that.” (9)

Seeing how I went and promised certain gifts and inducements  to those who might join us this weekend (I believe I offered to pen 2 items for anyone joining us for the first time, but so far no takers…whew!) (tentative 10)

Wakefield Doctrine Video Brunch tomorrow morning (9 or 9:30 EDT…depends on Lizzi and Michelle start availability)  I will make another attempt to get you people to Wakefield  Dyanne?  zoe?  Stephanie?  Melanie?  come on! you’ll love New England at this time of year… clear skies (if it’s not raining) and ocean vistas.

Ten Things of Thankful
 Your hosts

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. stream of con·scious·ness
    Noun

    A person’s thoughts and conscious reactions to events, perceived as a continuous flow.
    A literary style in which one’s thoughts and feelings are depicted in a continuous and uninterrupted flow.

  2. There, now I stopped and found you your explanation, I could get back and read the rest of your post and then come back down and comment properly.

    Dreams – now I would LOVE to know whether there’s any bearing on the clark/scott/rogerness of a person which can be seen through their dreams (or nightmares). I’m a firm believer that dreams are a side-effect of our brains ‘de-fragging’ and processing all of the sensory information they’ve taken in recently. I also believe that when we have a ‘meaningful’ dream, heavy with ‘symbolism’, all it means is whatever it means to US – not something which could be determined by others or by books or whatever.

    I am now dying to know what your nightmare was…because my dreams (and nightmares) can be very, very vivid.

    I had a vivid dream last night, actually, but I know all the different places I can attribute it to – it was great thinking back over it this morning and working out which pieces of my life from the last week had been zinging through my head as I slept.

    I was able to pinpoint: Dining experience with Joe; Conversation with Kristi: Conversation with Dyanne; Watching Bewitched; Comment made about a random young man whilst out running

    But I don’t know where the ‘camping’ element came from…

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Lizzi

      (running out the door) (to stay with the ‘Pulp Fiction’) ‘to be continued..

      as much as I can recall, the dream was just a vehicle for anxiety, large house, endless rooms…no order or sequence one character (yes, I am being coy, zoe) insisted on the ‘game’ of searching the house (which is the endless anxiety trap) going in anyway … waking with the dream remnants… reminding myself to take Castenda’s advice to ‘consult my death’… drinking water… (nice touch: after settling down a little our dog Una went totally crazy barking at something un-seen… remember this is 3:15am) I had to laugh

      will be back

  3. Good post. I give thanks for Mr. Nolan, Mr. Hopper, Mr. Tarantino, Mr. Travolta, Mr. Jackson. Hey! That’s half the number already for a TT0T post!

    Yes, do tell of the nightmare clark!

    clarks love to “analyze” dreams. They are asked quite often by others to interpret those individual’s dreams for them. Fun stuff:) Such the “armchairs” we clarks.

  4. Clark, keep up with the ‘weird’ posts….that’s why we like you! A wonderful ten things list!

  5. Clark, I do know this is more of a work day for you, but hoping it does go quick and that you get to enjoy the rest of the weekend. And at 9:30 am tomorrow, I will be starting 2 hours of watching back to back soccer for my girls, if it makes you feel any better!! Happy weekend and thanks for co-hosting as always! :)

      Janine

      sounds like you have a (good)busy weekend as well… of course with our (collective) blogging jones, a busy weekend means lots of Post topics in the week ahead!

  6. Kate says:

    It certainly is a beautiful New England day! Sunny and brisk. Enjoy your weekend!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Kate

      thanks Kate… hey! if you’re around tomorrow morning (and have google hangout on your computer) dial us up (as Lizzi might say) always an….interesting time at the Video Brunch

  7. Your posts are always slightly random… and interesting to read… =D

  8. zoe says:

    luckily I have a ridiculous tolerance for losing comments and reposting….so that said….

    I love your totally random disconnected form of connectedness….

    I am with Lizzi in wanting to know about dreams as they would be seen by the Doctrine… typology of such… especially the reoccuring kind that force me to relive them every so often. Would it be another personality type of questionairre? *** You are being pursued by an unseen assailant down an empty alley surrounded by brick walls and dumptsers… you are unsure if you are racing to a dead end or redemption do you…a.) turn and face your pursuant ready to use the machete you always carry with you for just such dream situations? b.) Keep going ever hopeful that you will not come up to another brick wall? c. ) stop and entertain your pursuer with your best rendition of the fight/dance scene in West Side Story ?

    • zoe says:

          218-339-0422 this is a conference call thing… (normal rates apply… the ‘switching center’ appears to be in MN, so whatever the long distance rates you have on your cell or whatever you use would apply..otherwise nothing to strange) when you dial in there will be a pleasant woman’s voice welcoming you to the Wakefield Doctrine and you will be prompted to enter access code, which is: 512103 (followed) by the #

          call us… oh yeah, 8:00 to 8:45 EDT

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      zoe

      remind me to tell you about the recurring dream (actually a traditional nightmare) that changed in a way that I found kinda interesting. I don’t really have nightmares much anymore (alas! the lose of youth) (lol)

  9. Sorry, way too sick! I’d just cough you all up the aeter! Keep your fingers crossed that I get good news from the doctor on Monday!

  10. christine says:

    I have had some serious nightmares throughout the years. I’ve woken myself up screaming for help more than once. I even went blind once in a dream, then woke up unable to see for about 10 minutes. Odd one, that one was.
    I can’t read everyone’s posts until mine is done. I’d never get mine written otherwise. One, because I’d be too engrossed in other people’s writing, and for two, I’d be unable to think of anything except of the great things on their posts. I’d become a plagiarist and no one would like me. That’s why I’m getting around to reading so late.
    Stream of conscious certainly has a place in writing.

  11. Kristi says:

    I’m always impressed with your ability to comment so frequently, and I’m even more impressed now that I understand that Saturdays are work days for you. Kudos!

  12. Zoe says:

    so I don’t know where it is but I just got this email from your comments section in which someone said they were going to do this from the car and I never even put 2&2 together that I could do that so maybe um that might be a more viable option for me I just need to figure out what I need to do I think.as much as some I would like to have been here last night for the drive I was out myself taking care of some friends animals and things but um I’m hoping next week maybe I can figure out this car thing I think that’s great right now I’m at a rest stop with skip on my way to my mother’s not that you need to play by play but you know you’re going to get it anywayso just say good morning to everyone for me and have a lovely time together and I hope to join you next week maybe from the car that would be so cool!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      • zoe says:

        LOL…wow… I left a hell of a run on sentence there… dictating I guess… So I got your invite later in the day… is that how things work? Cuz then I could definitely do this from the car! How exciting… I still wanna hear about the other dream… I have a thing for reoccurring ones…dunno why… just find them interesting I guess.

        • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

          (figured you were channeling Joyce), the Saturday Night Drive is a phone/audio only call-in thing…easy for driving and talking. The Brunch is a little more involved, depending on your comfort zone for driving and being on video (same technology).
          More to follow this week. Will tell you about today’s Brunch…broke new ground in the potential of the event but (this may or may not make you feel better) we are all (Michelle and Cyndi and Denise and Lizzi) are totally in the learning curve of how to do this Jetson’s thing. So if you don’t mind a touch of the chaotic, we will totally enjoy your help and participation.

  13. bethteliho says:

    seemingly disconnected, yet not, which makes it entertaining and funny. enjoyed it!

    I was just telling my husband about a strange dream I had last night. Involved fish tanks….

    Looking forward to more from you!

  14. Glad I got to brunch a little bit today:) Zoe! You will have to join us. Very nice time. I missed Michelle’s tour of the streets of Singapore today, my morning, her nighttime. And Lizzie! So great to see the view from your balcony. I love that you live across the street from a park:)

    Speaking of conversing and such, you guys missed a really good Saturday night call with Cyndi. We will have to do another of those “After School Specials” call. We got to talking about rogers. They are the challenge….. Walkin’, talkin’ emoticons that they are. LOL

  15. Good, you’re back to your muddles TToT posts. I was worried about you.

    I have amazingly vivid dreams, but know what? Since my surgery 18 months ago, I can’t remember them anymore like I used to. Something about the anesthesia, maybe? Hate it, because I LOVED lying in bed in the morning, remembering the details of my dreams. Now they’re like wisps of smoke.

    And I don’t read anyone’s TToT posts until I post my own, either. And I thought I was going to be the second one to post this time, but DAMMIT, Zoe beat me by mere seconds!

  16. Zoe says:

    in the words of lizzi the considerer aka the running conqueror I quote: “bwahahahaha!”

  17. Kerry B says:

    Clark- I think you are a nut and when I read your posts I often need a drink and this one has me reaching for a double chocolate milk (preg so no booze). I find my simple mind needs clear bullet points to follow hahaha but I was highly amused as always when I visit. I never read blog hops first because I’m afraid they will sway me. So now I’ve just proven simple and now weak minded….I need a shot of just chocolate. DAMN! perfect spot for that I think, no?
    And lastly: A narrative technique that gives the impression of a mind at work, jumping from one observation, sensation, or reflection to the next. These varied elements are usually expressed in a flow of words without conventional transitions….
    I think it fits.
    Have a lovely night!

  18. Sarah says:

    I love reading this hop ~ so fun to see what others are thankful for. I have been having crazy weird nightmares lately {not horror, but scary life things}…. and you are right, they do make us more mindful of what we love in our lives as they are….

  19. OMG the f@cking nightmares. Mine are horrifying and outrageous and the type that when I attempt to tell them later just leave the listener(s) baffled, confused, and wondering whether I need therapy.

    Also, here you go:
    Stream of consciousness is a narrative device used in literature “to depict the multitudinous thoughts and feelings which pass through the mind. Another phrase for it is ‘interior monologue’. “[1] The term “Stream of Consciousness” was coined by philosopher and psychologist William James in The Principles of Psychology (1890):
    “ consciousness, then, does not appear to itself as chopped up in bits … it is nothing joined; it flows. A ‘river’ or a ‘stream’ are the metaphors by which it is most naturally described. In talking of it hereafter, lets call it the stream of thought, consciousness, or subjective life.[2] ”
    In literary criticism, stream of consciousness is a narrative mode that seeks to portray an individual’s point of view by giving the written equivalent of the character’s thought processes, either in a loose interior monologue (see below), or in connection to his or her actions. Stream-of-consciousness writing is usually regarded as a special form of interior monologue and is characterized by associative leaps in thought and lack of punctuation. Stream of consciousness and interior monologue are distinguished from dramatic monologue and soliloquy, where the speaker is addressing an audience or a third person, which are chiefly used in poetry or drama. In stream of consciousness the speaker’s thought processes are more often depicted as overheard in the mind (or addressed to oneself); it is primarily a fictional device.

    Cover of James Joyce’s Ulysses (first edition, 1922), considered a prime example of stream of consciousness writing styles.
    In the following example of stream of consciousness from James Joyce’s Ulysses, Molly seeks sleep:
    “ a quarter after what an unearthly hour I suppose theyre just getting up in China now combing out their pigtails for the day well soon have the nuns ringing the angelus theyve nobody coming in to spoil their sleep except an odd priest or two for his night office or the alarmlock next door at cockshout clattering the brain out of itself let me see if I can doze off 1 2 3 4 5 what kind of flowers are those they invented like the stars the wallpaper in Lombard street was much nicer the apron he gave me was like that something only I only wore it twice better lower this lamp and try again so that I can get up early.
