Month: December 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine Month: December 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine

Ja! si mislil, da bi prenesli na novo delovno mesto Leto Resolucija! the Wakefield Doctrine ( hey, we are so damn mainstream these days!..*of course*, we have Resolutions!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

For the coming (and very cool number) Year 2013  we would offer the following Resolutions:

Resolution(s) for clarks courtesy of both the scottian and rogerian worldview:

  1. stop asking the world for permission…. (scotts: look up the Babe Ruth adage;   rogers: the world? all us? we are not that important, no matter how we act!)
  2. give yourself one day (a week) when you throw your  ‘better judgement’ down on the ground… (scotts: you keep moving and the averages work in your favor;  rogers: you cannot be certain what is ‘better’ in the long term take if from a worldview who specializes in statistics
  3. let yourself act silly (without the ‘backlash’ feeling of everyone is laughing at you)… (scotts: they are laughing, screw ’em!; rogers: you have a new thing here…maybe not a herd and probably not a pack…enjoy it (whatever it is!))

Resolution for scotts courtesy of both the clarklike and rogerian worldview:

  1. slow down!… (clarks: no  we did not say stop!  we said slow down there is more than one hunt left for you out there; rogers: we know you’re there, no need to stalk so much!)
  2. you can learn new tricks… ( clarks: lol  nothing to add to that! ;  rogers: try not to feel like there is no tomorrow, there might be, there might not be…don’t get frantic!)
  3. you are a member of this (new) herd, enjoy it… (clarks: remember! we do not eat our friends!  no going for the last laugh using us as fall-things, lol; rogers: I’ll sit over here, you have that whole big area to yourself…there you go!)

Resolution for rogers courtesy of both the clarklike and scottian worldviews:

  1. stop feeling like you need to stand out… (clarks: we know you’re there and that you have a lot to offer… we get it; scotts: you wonder why you are our favorite prey?  lol)
  2. try not to alienate your actual friends, no one is keeping score… (clarks: you are the more long term of the two when it comes to relationships of all types, don’t be such a pig;  scotts: you can run but you can’t hide, you might want to learn from that!)
  3. you have the gift of emotion and certainty, you get more by giving it away (clarks: we give away what we most value, don’t mistake ‘without cost’ with ‘without value’; scotts; did we say that you are our favorite prey? guess we did, what the clarks say, we will be watching…better pay attention

So from all of us here at the Wakefield Doctrine, we would be pleased to see you all have the best of possible timelines in the ‘new’ ‘Year’  2013  yo

‘…living the life external’ …blogging and the 3 personality types of the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) (Hey!!! it’s really the theory, screw that it’s about the scotts and them others) (‘how quaint, the ‘theory as you call it really is rather presumptuous, anyone will tell you that! but not those scotts, they are so un-imaginative and certainly not the clarks, god you’ll never get them to shut up)

Well, that subtitle pretty much sums it all up!
Isn’t it nice when a Post can present both thesis, explanation and justification, all in the first sentence! Guess that means you are all free to go about your Sunday! …go to church and find an often overlooked social context that provides a welcome support for your desire to reflect on the part of your life that you think there is no language for… The day is Sunday!! so the normal constraints have been supplanted by the more enjoyable ones…no! you still can’t eat your meals outdoors, you certainly cannot decorate your body with paint and put fake animal parts on your head! and no screaming!! however… the tailgate party is at 11:00, plenty of time before the game… Sunday is a day that you know used to mean much, much more and you still have that sense and can see how, if they just leave you alone, you can get back to a time when people appreciated the finer things in life, the consistent and predictable fun of an afternoon of skillful reassessment.

Well, it’s true! the simple fact of the Wakefield Doctrine is that world is a…certain way for each of the three personality types.
It is not as if we (collectively) find ourselves at the Food Court at the local Mall1 and the clark says: “sorry, those lines are really kind of long, I think I’ll just watch for a while”, and the scott: “…hey! ‘scuse me! I just gotta reach by you for this little jello tray…love your dress…hey lady! it says ‘all I can eat! does that include my friends too? no, no I’ll just put my stuff on your table while… watch my food, I got to run over there an get some tacos…love the suit’!) and the roger:  “well, I think this is a fine idea. of course, clark is standing there, you know how she is about public places and food and if you and I know scott, we will certainly have the attention of mall security. No, I’m fine, I just want to see that new authentic Peruvian take-out concession, everyone say’s it’s exactly like dining in Lima.”
Our point being, that it is not really about the conscious choices we all make as we proceed through the day, living our lives. The Wakefield Doctrine, with it’s bedrock concept of ‘worldviews’ insists that the choices made by each of the three are pretty much all the choices they have!

So today…a typical Sunday full of churches  …gatherings of the inner-reflective and football …gatherings of the loudly aggressive and hobbies and pastimes…gatherings of the established traditions allow each of the three types to live the kind of life that is the only life available, side by side, amidst and among the other two personality types.

Of course, the Wakefield Doctrine holds the key to self-improvement, for those inclined to view that as a worthwhile investment of their time, which is to say:

  • mostly the clarks (who free of the requirements of society and it’s limitations insists on living as though immortal) but
  • there are scotts (those with strong secondary clarklike aspects) who sense the value in improving their… huntin skills and even
  • a few rogers (again, the key…hell! the requirement of a secondary clarklike aspect) will allow for the possible usefulness of knowing more about the other people who are deemed worthy of recognition… i.e. fellow herd members.

Hey!! Not so old Readers…. today’s music video is from the 1970s!  But…even though you may not have been born (the Beatles once said:  “Lift up your hearts and sing me a song That was a hit before your mother was born.”) it’s still a good song.

1)  remind me sometime to hold forth on the representative architectural features that symbolize ‘community’  over the span of history as a given  culture matures, develops and ages. It’s a fascinating study… from campfire to village fire to the community well to shrine to the deities to the church to the school house to the library to the town hall to the high school athletic field to the drugstore to the mall (back) the drugstore… all, in their time representing the most important element in the lives of those comprising the community

Video Friday the Wakefield Doctrine …the late day edition, in video form, no less!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks and scotts and rogers…of course! )

It’s like the guy just said, that Doctrine is so… fun(?) yeah, ok… different (?) lets have a show of hands! anyone doesn’t think our little personality theory is a teensy bit on the  wild side?  and …useful (?) hell yeah! but in fairness to some new Readers, the ultimate maximization of the inherent values of this particular self-improvement theoretical methodology is still not as clearly defined as it might be.

But then again, the Wakefield Doctrine has always not been for the masses, the great tides of Readers in search of diversion, distraction and other (mental) palliatives. Granted that the blogosphere is sort of  the Sam’s Club of Homegrown Literature, Information and Advice. And, granted many Readers are not anxious to take up company with a theory of personality that requires a great deal of talent and effort from those who would benefit by its insights.  But then again, whata ya gonna do?

Be sure to call us on the Saturday Night Drive tomorrow.

‘…of goals and new Years’, the Wakefield Doctrine you know that, goal setting…hell New Year’s itself, is a different experience for each of the 3

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks of the future, scotts in the present and rogers from the past)

Hey ho, almost, the Year, she is ending. ( I did, in fact, refer to 2012 with the female gender-specific pronoun!  Trust us, it is necessary in order for the music vid to make the inferences that my writing skill is not sufficiently developed to make on its own.) I think that almost everyone out there reading this Post will, at this point, experience some fairly strong and distinct feelings about the year 2012. I will venture to say these feelings will coalesce around… ‘ok!  like a roller coaster, it was fun, (you’re) glad you rode it… but now, for a while it is time for a little normal life.’

The thing is New Years Eve (as a ‘holiday’)  really is kinda shop worn,  the victim of too many years of decorating the Day (mostly the ‘Eve’) with culture symbolism. The whole, good cheer lets all go out and pay way too much for not very good food in order to stand in a room with a bunch of strangers waiting to congratulate each other for still being alive, is so 1950’s

This is not to say that celebrating New Years Day ( and it’s more attractive twin, New Year’s Eve) is a pointless diversion.  It’s just that, of the big three holidays, ( Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years), New Years Day is the most insidious  in the ways that it is used by the forces of society and culture.  Out with the old, in with the new! There is a chance to renew your life, to cast aside the old ways of thinking about life and take on a new view. The message is, ‘hey! no matter how bad last year was, (we promise) next year might be better! no! better than that!  ‘hey the worse last year seems, the more you should invest in the hope for the coming year.’

It should come as no surprise that New Year’s Eve (and Day) are totally the holiday of clarks. If there is one thing that clarks do far and away better than scotts and rogers it is: hope.
Forget the outward manifestation of this holiday, i.e. a night of revelry and abandon, the real theme of New Years is hope and that is what draws clarks. While scotts will party because it is almost a societal mandate and rogers will talk about what others have said they have done in the past year, it will be the clarks who grow excited and yet stay quiet, making (their) plans for the coming year.

(For a clark) the approaching New Year is both a time of hope and a dangerous time to measure (the) progress they have made, it is an opportunity to set new goals yet not without risk, as the inevitable assessment of the outcome of previous goals. clarks like to think that they have improved their lives, not realizing that only clarks will think of it in quite those terms ( a scott will simply plan to get more, a roger will know that they will gain more recognition…in the coming new Year), clarks are the only of of the three willing to inflict pain on themselves in the belief that by doing so they have earned the right to discover what it is they need to do this new Year, never realizing that the discomfit is self-inflcited. clarks being the self-less givers (of the three personality types) will frame their resolutions in terms of the other people in their life, to do better so that…. they will have this, he/she will be happier, the family will be better off.  Of the three personality types, of the realities that we call the worldview of clarks, scotts and rogers, it is  clarks who have access to a nearly endless supply of hope for the future and that is their biggest shortcoming;  this capacity to believe the future can be better, brighter, happier is the reason that clarks will constantly be trying to improve the future, rarely ever giving themselves the gift of knowing that it is their present that is what they are, that the future, the new Year  is not where life is lived, right here is… today is that place.

Merry Christmas!! and a Happy… (insert preferred religio-culturalis-tradito-centric greeting) -[here]- !!! from the Wakefield Doctrine

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

There is an old saying, ‘repetition is the most efficient form of creativity‘, to which we will add, ‘you can say that again’!

Given the enormity of the holiday, we would be remiss in our self-imposed duty to provide one more insight into human nature from the perspective of our little personality theory, if we did not tell you why Christmas is a holiday that resonates with all three personality types of the Wakefield Doctrine. But, due to the increasing influence of our rogerian aspect, let us first extend the heartfelt wishes of those of us here at the Doctrine, to those of you out there in Reader-ville:

(Special Greeting Update! courtsey of our friend Melanie Chisnall over at Scribbles and Smiles )
South Africa…Geseende Kersfees!

Apologies to any whose (translated) Greeting comes out as “I hope the dog eats all your fish..” or something.  It’s the damn internet, I want to click once and get an accurate translation into any language in the world.  What’s un-reasonable about that?

The enormity of the Christmas holiday? It has clear appeal and, in fact, resonates strongly with all three personality types:

  • clarks: who love to give…selflessly, and to an extreme, we will give everything that we (think) we have to give, in the hopes of becoming so much a part of the group…which is, in fact all, of you ‘out there in the world’…that we will no longer consider ourselves the Outsiders
  • scotts: who love to give because there is so much life and activity inherent in a celebration such as is manifested by Christmas, that all they can do is run around and bark at the lights (or bark using lights), chase down and herd those who gather together on this holiday, never stopping, until without warning, they drop into a sleep, like a 2 month old puppy… wherever they last stood, eyes closed, teeth showing, legs twitching as the chase continues in their dream with the occasional wag of the tale, showing their essentially good natures
  • rogers: a tradition and the participation of nearly all people, Christmas has everything they could want and to top it all off, there is the second most feared manifestation of ‘referential authority’ there is:  the gift giver who keeps records, verifies those records and rewards and punishes behavior, all by standards that, while thought by most to be understood, are never explicitly stated.

So to all our friends (new and old), those of us here at the Wakefield Doctrine say, ‘Yo Ho Ho’!
