Now, don’t misunderstand us! We are not saying that the Wakefield Doctrine will be the darling of the Paris runways next Spring (if Jean Paul Gaultier or Nicholas Ghesquiere, call be sure to get a number ). But the Doctrine is about enhancing ourselves, if it’s about anything at all!
So, the topic/point of today’s Post:
the Wakefield Doctrine and Fashion for you and fun for the whole family! ( now about that fashion thing):
- clarks: are you serious? fashion? V and Nylon has nothing on a clark with a little time and a debit card full of next semester’s tuition! the Doctrine is gender neutral, however fashion in the hands of a female clark is scary, wonderful, a startling thing….and if you are a roger, then just wait the 12 to 18 months for the rest of the world’s couture to catch up and buy the same look at your local mall
- scotts: if fashion is a tool of interpersonal expression then scotts are total ninja/WWE/samurai/trained-killing-machine(s). Watch the ‘fashion-show-runways’ in every: high school hallway, high-rise office corridor, factory floor passageway, city sidewalk, we guarantee that you will recognize the scotts! Saying that a scott knows how to dress ‘for effect’ is like saying a DB9 is good transportation.
- rogers: these are the people who tell us what brand is the clothing that is fashionable. Interesting in that 80% of the list of best-dressed people will be rogers (or are wearing the clothing suggested by rogers). rogers can be counted on to take the creativity (of the clarklike female), offset the androgyny with the ‘in-your-….face‘ style of a scott and before you know it, the next must have fashion line is here (at a reasonable price at your local mall outlet!

…oh, I can assure you that Steve is aware of that, the Doctrine’s Man-in-Southwest-an-parts-out-thata-way actually has more photos of hats(Doctrine) heads(damn) and women(attractive) than most of us lol
I used to be a Scott, but alas I had kids I now I have to be more of a Clark out of the sheer need for comfort, lol. I even wrote a whole blog post on this and will be posting in a few days. Stay tunes :) :)

some of the DownSprings take me to task for being, not quite in touch and, how do they say it…old but my favorite illustration of the clarklike (female’s) creativity in fashion and clothing and such is Diane Keaton’s character in the movie ‘Annie Hall’ (she is such a clark)
I am honestly not sure where I fit in the W.D. with fashion.
I do care about it but not too much! So lets look at how I dress my kids…I do buy them some designer wear but not all their cothes are. My goal was always to have them looking clean and neat – cute was third:) lol

You can’t change the fact that you are a scott. And that’s OK. I too am a scott. I think that we summon a secondary aspect with regards to raising our children in order to maintain their manners and respect. Don’t want to impart being a hellion on them. lol That is not to say that scotts don’t have manners or respect. Of course we do. But there is also a lot of “spice” if you will in scottian females.
@Jennifer – so right. One is predominantly a clark, a scott or a roger. It does not change. The thing that one may notice is that a secondary aspect, if strong enough, will step up and take center stage at certain moments or at particular times.
All that we are is what we are:) Unless you are a clark traveling the road of self-evolution or the scott with a secondary clarklike aspect trying to sharpen one’s hunting skills or a roger, again with the 2ndary clarklike, wanting to expand a herd, another herd or…….start one of her/his own (hm….is that even possible? someone has to start it right?!). LOL
Hmmm, I also don’t know where I fit in with fashion. I never wore clothes just because they were the latest or because they were branded. I’ve always worn what I felt comfortable in, but what also looked good – or so I’d thought. Excited about the Doctee…yipeeee! And thanks again :)))

as we have said (time and time again! lol) it is not so much the things that we do or the acts that we perform or the feelings that we relate, the unique value/perspective the Doctrine has to offer is found in the consideration: what does this mean to me in regards to my relationship with the world (and everything) around me? When the question is properly asked, our worlds change…just a tiny, little bit (damn you! Heisenberg!)
now the DocTees! that is a whole thing in and of itself…remind me (after the DocTee has arrived) to write a Post about those pesky questions that you may find yourself having to deal with…
Aha! Good example of a clark’s propensity for “knowing” about stuff that you ask yourself “how did he/she know about that? or “I never would have thought he knew about M. Ghesquiere!”. Do tell Clark, have you been in touch with Karl (Lagerfeld)?!

Wait…shut the front door. Um…I’m sadly NOT a fashion queen – I have little sense there. You know where I find out about it? HAHA…when I see other people wearing something I like. HEHE. I’m aware of different trends, but if I don’t like it, I’m not EVER wearing it. Skinny jeans? Oh hell no. Boot cut? Okay, those look classy. Fleece? Sure, especially with a healthy dose of cathair, because they like it, too. Skirts? Sure, if they’re comfortable, stylish and slightly hippie. That’s my fashion statement. HAHA.

While I would maintain that many clarks exhibit a certain creativity in fashion, the underlying principle is comfort, in design and wearingosity clarks (both male and female) gravitate to what is comfortable first and foremost. It’s just that by virtue of being the Outsider, clarks are not limited in their options, as are rogers (in terms of conventional) and scotts in terms of functional.
That is quite true, Clark. Rogers are quite good on building on ideas, and that pretty much is their style of creativity. A twist on someone’s sense of fashion, cooking, etc. I find that it is my strength too! Sorry that I’ve been a bit busy to come in, just managed to find some time!! Will be by again to check on my Roger personality.

A twist on someone’s sense of fashion, cooking, etc” You have defined the rogerian approach to ‘creativity’, to take an established idea (or principle) and by ‘re-building it’ you have newness of the old! Very clearly a rogerian sense, I thought also that you are suggesting that it is the (individual) roger’s sense of the history of the thing that they are re-building that adds that certain element of new, what a cool concept!
A little late to the party but…..dead on Michelle! Nice encapsulated statement about rogers. Love hearing it from the horse’s mouth:) rogers do love to build upon a thing, expand and explore a thing that has already existed. I find rogers extremely attentive to details with an uncanny awareness of what is socially acceptable.
As to clarks and fashion, yes, comfort figures but really, can you talk about comfort and clarks all in the same sentence? LOL As a clarklike female, fashion is simple, it can be fun and enjoyable but more often than not it is yet another vehichle of self expression – creativity noodling around again!
