Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
I was sitting on my deck this afternoon, watching our dog, Una. Our yard is fairly small but is surrounded by a pine woods. Una was sitting on the lawn, watching the woods for intruders and other threats and I sat in my chair staring at the woods. All of a sudden there was a sound of cracking wood and through a nearby grove of trees, I watched a medium size tree fall. Accompanied by the sound of splintering tree limbs and cracking wood, it fell over. Without thinking and in a fairly loud voice, “I heard that!” in the silence that followed, I started laughing. (From …Tales of clarks)
The Wakefield Doctrine, today’s Post Title tells us, purports to be easy to learn and fun to use. Two questions:
- how easy
- what the hell do you mean ‘use‘
Easy as pie! To be honest* it would be better to describe the process (of learning the Doctrine) as being simple, rather than easy. Simple for those Readers with the quality of flexible intelligence, those who are comfortable using their imagination as well as they brains. The good news is, that if you are still reading this Post, you no doubt qualify.
See? That was pretty damn easy, non?
Use (our little Doctrine) in whatever manner you feel gives you the maximum benefit. This is where the Wakefield Doctrine totally has the advantage over those other personality theories! Learn about the three worldviews that are the foundation of the Doctrine and you can:
- amuse yourself watching people, people you know, people you don’t know.
- amuse your friends
- improve your own life, break habits…get new ones!
- hang out (virtualistically speaking) with people from all the hell over the globe, the people who come here and learn the Doctrine
- be a part of something that no one else in your family/group of friends/co-workers even come close to knowing about
* always suspect the person is lying when you hear a statement like this! As our Wikipedian friends would have us understand:
Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection )
How about a little borrowed music?
Since a new post will most likely appear tomorrow morning block quote this shit:
“clarks! wake the fuck up!
and shut the fuck up!
put it in gear
forget about tomorrow…
it’s today, now, right here”
Now dollars to doughnuts, no one will comment on this. And why should anyone? “How rude and vulgar!”, the rogers will exclaim. “What the fuck is she talking about?” the scotts will scream.
the Wakefield Doctrine, it’s an effective device. It’s a valuable tool. Consider knowing it, then using it and over time realizing how efficatious it truly is. An asset indeed my friends.
My little poetic rantette popped into my head 2 days ago as I sat in my car in the parking lot of where I work, prior to getting out and “starting my shift”. Enough said? (Rhetorical, guys, rhetorical).
If I cannot save myself then perhaps I can save other clarks…the younger clarks! Save you time, save you from yourselves! It’s all out there. Get over yourself, know “who” your friends, family and co-workers are – what kind of world do they walk through each day. You”ll save yourselves an awful lot of figuring.
To know the reality another person is experiencing, to know the emotional triggers, motiviations and expectations of that person, to know why it is they relate to the world at large is a huge advantage. Huge.
A roger I know recently left a comment over at my blog in which he made rather an important distinction with regards to indulging in emotion. For rogers, It is not the thing itself (indulgance in emotion) but rather how it can be used – qualify/quantify/apply. Simple, orderly and….proper. In a word “rogerian”.
Today, I felt I walked through the world a roger. How do I know I was successful? No, it wasn’t simple reciprocity from other rogers, but rather it was the feeling within my own self, my actions natural, not forced. Again, however, I would harken back to my experience I spoke about on one of the Saturday Night Drives. “What? this is taking too long? People are asleep?! Damn. Alright, I’ll come back tomorrow and explain to clarks how it is you can tell you are walking, truly walking in someone else’s world. (in this example, a roger’s world)
edit…edit…edit…..
I’m done.
