Month: June 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine Month: June 2012 | the Wakefield Doctrine

Video Friday! Episode some-teen ….the Wakefield Doctrine, it’s yours however you are reclined

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

EZ-FRY-DAE:  Sit back and Listen (or) Sit up and Read!

The Wakefield Doctrine is predicated on the idea that we all live in one of three worldviews. The world of the outsider (clark), the reality of the predator (scott) and the life of the herd (rogers). Observe the outward behavior of the person and infer the reality that they are experiencing….the rest of (that) person is now a damned, open book!  All of us have the potential to live in any of the three realities, but choose one over the other two (but never really lose the capability to act as the other two). The Wakefield Doctrine is not so concerned with getting a list of likes and dislikes or having a person answer a questionnaire or charting the results on a 4 or 6  or 8 axises printout. Hell no!  Want an example of how unique and cool and useful the Wakefield Doctrine is?…. (those questionnaires we just mentioned??) once we have inferred which of the three the person is,  we can tell you how they will react to being asked to take the test!! Thats right! Haven’t even answered a thing and we know what they think of your puny questionnaire!

Yeah, the Wakefield Doctrine is that cool.

the Wakefield Doctrine is a “______” and it is really a lot of “__________” Two Reasons and still only one Doctrine!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Damn!  Now just what the hell was that??! …yesterday’s Post, …seriously did you read that thing?!  Well, we all know they need to produce a book from this thing so they can go into the Life Coaching biz, but….don’t they know.  It’s fricken Summertime!!*

Seriously, while there is much work that needs to be done to move this Doctrine thing of ours to the next phase, lets take a Moment today to remember what Today’s Post Title reminds us…of…to…whatever.
The Wakefield Doctrine is two things, if it is anything:

  1. (the Wakefield Doctrine) is a unique perspective and insight into the behavior and personalities of the people in our lives
  2. (the Wakefield Doctrine) is…..fun!
Insight?  You’re asking us what value of insight the Wakefield Doctrine can offer? Fine,  you’re on a Blind Date, (which means that you could be any of the three types. ‘cept probably not a scott ) and your Date is talking at a low-volume and avoids Eye Contact, yet the times you can understand what they are saying, they are totally cracking you up. Well, we could tell you who (clark or scott or roger) you have across the table from you…but we won’t insult your understanding of the Wakefield Doctrine by telling you the answer. You know the answer. (ok, if you need some help you have our permission to go ask one of the DownSprings! DS#1 or Molly or Ms AKH or ClairePeek or Nell  hey if you’re not in a hurry for the answer go to the only (other) Progenitor and ask the roger!)
Hey! this is fun!!** Lets try some more. Contest??  Sure, why the hell not?
the First Annual Name the Blind Date Components and Win A Doctrine Tee Shirt Contest!!!
Here ya go (and don’t forget to write your Answers in the form of a Comment….down at the bottom of  this Post, of course!)
Her: clark or scott or  roger     Him: clark or scott or roger
Her: clark or scott or roger       Him: clark or scott or roger
Her:  too damn easy!!                 Him:  (hint: ask the Progenitor….)
(lol…I just saw the page layout….damn! this fricken Doctrine,  …is cool or what?)

*now that we have revealed the hemispherical bias of your writer, where the hell is the southern Hemispheristic Readers?  Hey! South of the Equator Dudes!!  Write to us and we will send you a Tee Shirt…ask anyone!

**fun??! maybe in clarkville this reading is fun, but for us scotts!  where are the chicks?!!  how ’bout some noise!!  bring on the rogers!!!

Warning!! Causal Readers (lol) scroll down to the music video…the Wakefield Doctrine presents Workplace Conflict Strategies ….back to work, bitches!

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers )

A significant portion of the Wakefield Doctrine’s BTB*,  will be devoted to offering  ‘strategies’ for dealing with Workplace Conflicts.  To that end, we have continued the stories of our three job Applicants: the clark in the M&A Division of a multi-national Corporation; Emily, our rogerian Waitress (with 2 Doctorates) and finally, our scottian Welder. Subsequent to their respective Interviews, all three accepted  the Positions that they sought. As is the case for everyone with a job, eventually they encountered a problem that involved their immediate superior(s).
Since this is the Wakefield Doctrine, we can understand the root cause of these Workplace Conflicts in terms of the personality type(s) of our Applicants and not surprisingly, the Strategy (for successful) resolution of the Conflict will also be grounded in the Doctrine. Lets start with the nature of the individual Conflicts:

  • clark thinks his job is simply completing (the) assigned task(s) and, wanting to be seen as a hard worker, gets each of his daily Tasks done as quickly as possible. As a result, our clark often finds he has ‘free time’ during the day and uses this ‘free time’ to…explore other interests
  • emily, our roger, is very happy to have a job where (she feels) her only responsibility is to make certain that everyone coming into the restaurant appreciates what a great and friendly place (her) restaurant is
  • scott, our Welder  feeling that this is a ‘second chance’ is determined to demonstrate to everyone that he’s such a good a welder and such a hard worker, that he takes it on himself to help others do their jobs as well
What follows are three Workplace Conflict scenaria and  Conflict Resolution Strategy. Note that the Strategy has two parts: a) Establish Control of the Situation and 2) Maintain Control and Resolve (the Conflict). The 3rd scenario and Strategy is incomplete…please provide your suggested Strategy in the Comments section.
Workplace Conflict #1
Our clark gets called into his (rogerian) Manager’s office and is asked,  “Some of your co-workers have come to me and complained that you don’t seem to want to be a part of the team. They say that you often seem dis-interested in your job,  you spend a lot of time playing solitaire on your computer and you never offer to help the others. Your team feels that you don’t have any enthusiasm for what we all are trying to accomplish here.  Don’t you like it here?”
Strategy:
(Establish Control): Stand up and say, “You’re right! I really wanted it to work for me here, but it is clearly not going to happen, you need to fire me, right now!”
(Maintain Control and Resolve) Offer a written list of what you (the clark) are willing to do to help the other members of the Team
Workplace Conflict #2
The (scottian) Owner of the restaurant calls Emily ( our rogerian Waitress) into his office and asks, “What the hell are you doing to my Customers??! They sit and eat and leave without so much a as ‘Hey! how are you doing’. Goddamn, some of my regulars have even come up and told me that they’re uncomfortable coming up to the Counter to just talk to me while I’m cooking!! Hell! one of them even said they thought that it would be against the Rules!!”
Strategy:
(Establish Control) Cry. (not as sexist as it sounds…explanation/analysis will make this clear
(Maintain Control and Resolve): walk out of the office and begin to work, without another word
Workplace Conflict #3
When our scottian Welder gets called in to the new (and clarklike)  HR Director’s Office, he is certain it is so they can offer him a promotion.  But like his initial interview, there are 2 people in the room, except this time along with HR Director, the Owner of the company is sitting there! The first question is, ” You think you’re pretty good at welding, do you?”
Strategy:
(Establish Control)
(Maintain Control and Resolve):

* “you got brutal self-assessment on my soaring spirit of fun!” …”no, you got irresponsible indulgence on my determination to improve myself!!”

the Wakefield Doctrine’s Saturday Night Drive, look! did you hear something?

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Saturday Night Drive Re-Cap!  (but first, about that last Road Trip…)

Rules Governing Wakefield Doctrine Road Trips

  • you must be going somewhere for another reason, business conference, pre-set sales calls, a visit to your sick aunt Earlene
  • the target destination must be recognizable to most, if not all Readers
  • (most important Rule) you must return before midnight of the day that you would have gotten back anyway
  • there is no minimum time that must be spent in target destination, however long it takes to get a photo and declare ownership by Right of Hat

This last trip I was in Ft Worth Texas (for a Conference) and went home (southern New England) by way of Key West, Florida.  Itinerary: Dallas->Houston->Tampa->Key West  (rental car) -> Ft Lauderdale-> home by 10:00 pm (2 hours to spare!)

Last Night’s Saturday Night Drive was more fun than most…a nearly full-complement of DownSprings! Only one missing was progenitor roger. (…if there are any Readers out there of the rogerian persuasion, write us a Comment, we want you to Call-in next Saturday!! (Mel…. you know you want to). Just let us know of your begrudging interest and, as clarks, we will try way, way too hard to get you on the air.

Last Night’s Topics for Discussion:

  • Jenny’s Conundrum,
  • tomahawks,
  • Summer in Big-Square-States and
  • input from all on the latest chapter of the someday-this-will-be-a-book manuscript. Specifically: Strategies for Workplace Conflicts  very good input from DS#1 and Molly and Ms AKH and glenn. Ms AKH provided the critical scottian ‘contrast’ to the suggested resolutions of the three Scenaria that we are using as a context in the Book.
  • …oh yeah!  we also did a video  that may or may not follow…stay tuned!

On the topic of Jenny’s Conundrum, Molly started to expand on her Comment (at the Post). Mostly focusing on the value of determining the nature of the questions (if any) being put forth by Jenny’s group of clarks, Molly’s suggestion appears to be along the lines of consider the nature of the question and infer the personality type,  (better just go to yesterday’s Post and read it yourself0.  Molly’s Comment was very ‘on the mark’ in that the initial phase of understanding the personality type of person is always to look for ways to infer how that person is relating to the world at large. Do they seem to see the world as ‘outside, apart from (themselves)’ or do they seem on the alert for threats or signs of weakness (in others) or do they seem assured that everything (or most everything) is as it should be? (a clark or a scott or a roger)

…to be cont’d
