Friday’s Child is loving and giving

…”Papa-ooma-mow-mow

…yesterday we left off talking about rogers…so let’s continue our little discussion…

“I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, or my praise to idols.” Yahweh demanded the role of the one true God in the hearts and minds of Israel, “Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God; Yahweh is one: and you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.(courtesy of our friends at Wikipedia).

DISCLAIMER!.  I MEAN IT…READ THIS BEFORE YOU GET ALL (whatever state of heightened emotion is characteristic of your type) …no, despite the rather vocal opinions of many scotts and a fair number of rogers, we (and by we I mean those of us here at the Wakefield Doctrine) we do not hate/disdain/scorn/dislike/disrespect/disturb/deconstrue/or in any manner hold the opinion that rogers are the worst of the worst of the three. To the contrary the Doctrine, it’s own damn self says of these people:

  • rogers are the friendly ones
  • rogers are the glue to whatever social fabric you might care to consider, civic, religious, scientific
  • rogers require rules and traditions, they are in fact the only ‘reason’ that history of human civilization has any continuity whatsoever
  • rogers are behind the creation of and perpetuation of virtually all human institutions, religious, civic, political whatever
  • rogers do not create, they maintain, they assemble, they are the machine operators
  • rogers are the engineers, accountants and physicians
  • rogers are the judges, the firefighters and high school teachers (except for gym teachers) (excerpt from the roger page Wakefield Doctrine)
  • Having said that…we simply have to account for the influence, the tone, the tenor that rogerian institutions have imparted upon human existence.  We have said elsewhere that were it not for rogers, life would consist of a fairly small number of scotts roaming the savannah hunting prey, which for the most part would consist of endless numbers of roger-like lifeforms that nearly fill the eco-system (picture herds of buffalo with wings, flying pigeon-like from spot to spot, taking off with a roar of giant wings…) and a very, very small number of clarks (lemur looking people with large eyes and ten opposable thumbs)…Not a pretty picture, is it?

Anyway…the fact is that rogers create institutions and constitutions, they are the reason we have civilization…and continuity…and (organised) religion…and oppression and cultural intolerance.  So, here’s a shocker, the rogerian nature produces good and evil.

(Now I simply have to say this…if your reaction by this point in today’s Post is anything but, “of course I knew that, the Doctrine is built on the notion that all of us are born with the potential to experience the world in one of three ways, (and) we become predominately one but always retaining the qualities of the other two…”, you need to stop reading and go find another blog. (With 100 million of these fuckers out there, there will surely be something that appeals to you…)

OK, OK where the hell was I going with this thing?  Oh yeah, rogers…look on that picture…what’s not to like?  The picture that anchors this Post (at the top of this page), even allowing for the cultural bias of Jesus Christ as Kenny Loggins, the picture shows the good side of rogers… (I shouldn’t have to repeat this, but you all know that the Wakefield Doctrine is gender neutral, don’t you…and while the image I am using is male, I could have just as easily put in a photo of Aunt Bea or Kathy Bates or Mother Theresa…in fact I think there will be a Post coming up to reiterate this very point.  But for now  let’s quit while I am (hopefully) still ahead. (btw ‘knowing when to quit’ is not  a primary characteristic of clarks.)

So in the course of your day today, try and spot the rogers in your life. (hey! Roger! if a person is a roger, can they see other rogers, or do they just seem like regular people to them?), of course rogers will spot scotts: nervous sideways glances towards the bushes until they lock eyes and then a semi-hypnotized state, I assume.  If you are not a roger, look at your friends and family and co-workers today.  rogers will, of course, be the social people, easy to talk to, friendly and comfortable in small groups, very familiar with the methods and rules in the workplace, the roger at work will probably know everyone’s birthday, spouses names, who is dating who and who is breaking up or soon to break up with who…

BREAKTIME!!!!  two videos….same song title different songs…..games people play  and then we have  games people play  your choice….

I think we have covered a fair amount of ground today.  I invite Comments but I will say this: let’s get something new in terms of insights.  We all know…. wait a minute…do I hear someone suggest….a….CONTEST!!!!

For a hat (for your damn head) sucessfully match the photo to the type:  clark: (a) (b) (c); scott: (a) (b) (c); roger: (a) (b) (c)

    (a)

     (b)

are you done with your little experiment now?

Well… I hope you are enjoying the first week of our new format here at the Wakefield Doctrine.

You know, you can get in on the fun. Got ideas for Posts, or even photos to build a Post around?…send them in, we can turn your funny/tragic/pathetic/sweet/aww thats cute/ewww, gross photos into a Post (think Bernie Turpin).
This ‘magazine format’ is going to be fun and useful  for the next few months. We are hard at work putting the pieces of the Doctrine into this new format; one of the most intense areas of development in the coming months will be the Wakefield Doctrine Fashion Center. At present, it is located in the Features section in the middle of the Homepage. (This is the same as the FASHION CENTER ‘Page’ listed in the Table of Contents.) Will be organising so that it  will allow better display and the addition of other items. Of course, there will always be hats (for your damn head). But be on the look-out for tee shirts ( hey!!! Readers!!! there is totally still time to win a hat by suggesting tee shirt words) and other clothing items. Not to get ahead of the process, but there is a possibility that we will be able to offer items from ‘the Spatula Collection’! (more info to follow, keep your fingers crossed). Other areas to watch are: (a) video gallery, where you can search/browse all the videos from Posts; the Doctrine in the News,   a ‘current events’ approach to illustrating the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine (any volunteers?); and lots, lots more. But for now we will keep getting Posts up and asking you to spread the word of the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers.

(Damn!  the rule about always having a lesson/illustration/demonstration of the Wakefield Doctrine in every Post is not to be ignored…) So on to it…

But before we get to that, upcoming features: a Case Study (poglavje dva); an Interview with a roger, and though I have not informed her yet, another Post on Couples(this being a topic that AKH has done such exemplary work for us in the past). In fact, don’t take my word for it, go and read the first installment here (don’t forget, just back click to return). So we have a lot to look forward to, prepositionally speaking.

Oh! yeah… lesson in the Doctrine.  This whole thing is mostly being driven by (the) clarklike desire to create. Of the three, clarks are the most likely to do this because rogers live in a world that is, by un-enunciated definition, perfect. The rogerian world is perfect because: ‘all that is, is all that there needs to be; otherwise it would already be there’, in other words, perfect. This is not just my opinion, this is originally spoken by Phyllis, who described the rogerian reality as being  ‘a box’. A box in this context is not confining, at least not to a roger. Rather it is confirming/reassuring/establishing…a box is quantifiable…one of the primary characteristics of rogers. But, of course, a roger will not see it as a box, because that would imply not box which would undo the perfectness of the world they live in. (Note: this does not apply directly to any rogers reading this; by definition, anyone reading this has moved beyond their form, are mutated/evolved so that what is used as description is not quite accurate. This applies to clarks and scotts as well).

All of which takes us back to yesterday’s Post. We started with the Midwest and the inference that everything fits together. As the Midwest is home to the middle of the culture by all measures, it can only follow that it is where the highest concentrations of rogers can be found. We thank Glenn for his Comment. Not only does his Comment impart information (about the notion that the Midwest is where the rogers be at) but gives us the contrasting reality-view of the scott. How can you read his Comment and not understand how scotts differ from rogers or clarks?

So to reinforce participation (and simply a thanks to a Reader who is willing to spend the time to participate, yes I’m talking  to you…99,999,975 Internet blog visitors who are too  busy, with such important things that you can’t take a minute out of your so very important day to write a simple Comment, look at Glenn!  He has a high-ranking position in the medico-industrial complex and he has time to write us.)…what!  oh yeah  sorry  gets me going sometimes  yo Glenn…

..hey I think I’ll reward my own damn self with this little number (thank god for the Crossroads Music Festival…)

Understanding and a little bit of lovin’, thats all in the world I need

…The lyrics are Hendrix…the photo is something from a regional theatre production…out in Mel‘s part of the country…you know…the Midwest.. let me make some assumptions about a part of the country that I have not only never been to, but have very little direct knowledge of, other than what I have a learned on television*

The first assumption is that this is the part of the country that the middle-of-the-bell-curve personality types live…the healthy (on the outside), the moderate (of spirit) and the down-to-earth in worldview people will be found. In other words…rogers… Of course, the most likely of the three (clarks or scotts or rogers) to be found in the Midwest are the rogers…they are the solid, conservative (in the fullest sense of the word, not limited to political inferences), religious (in a simple and fundamental sense) and overall, most down to earth kind of folks that this culture will have produced…

(Hey heres an idea! Lets write a Post ‘on the fly’…in other words half finished…I will write and then leave for a time when I finish each section and see if anyone notices…need to get to work for now (2:06pm EST)

(I’ll be back…any ideas for where this Post should go next…thats why Jethro invented Comments.)

(3:39pm and I’m back)…and…a scott is in da house!  Damn, Glenn you really need to learn to not be so circumspect in your (written) Opinions…lets all stop and reflect for a moment on the vagaries of Life that combine to put us in the place…nah screw that…a blog is the ulitmate public forum and by the rules (at least here at the Doctrine) all Opinion will be presented, and as all writers are responsible for their words, all Readers are equally responsible for their own reactions to (these) words.
National Lampoon once did a joke ‘satisfaction guarentee’ for their magazine: “If you are entirely satisfied, simple return the un-read portions of the magazine to us and we will return the un-spent portion of your money”; or words to that effect. (Study Guide Alert!!! clarks do not tell jokes very well). (gotta run..be back…

(9:42pm) Hey, we tried…a bit of an experiment in writing these here Posts here…not such a success. Tell you what I do like, these pictures. The new format really makes a photo necessary, both as an anchor and a visual cue to the content. And there is an internet world full of pictures and snapshots and photos.

But plan on a lot of little Posts for a while.

Anyway, thats all for now. Lets get out with some video entertainment.

    About: the Wakefield Doctrine

Once upon a time, in a land not very far from Clark’s house… there were three atypical college friends who engaged in many of the atypical activities of their day. They went to school; they played guitars at ear-splitting volumes in dorm rooms, and sneered derisively at those who objected; one drank too, too much; one not at all, but subsisted on Oreos and Coke. One became a Baptist with a capital ” B”. They played in rock bands, worked all sorts of jobs, one got married way too soon. They all wrestled with the Issues Of Their Day, with varying degrees of resolve and/or success.  And in spite of all the atypical ups and downs, they managed to form a very unique bond. And , to their surprise, the bond has lasted much longer than any one of them might have thought. Longer than some marriages, jobs, bands, or Baptist dogma. And after many hours of conversation about just about everything turned into years and decades of same, there came to be what was, and is now, referred to as … the Wakefield Doctrine.

Psychology and psychiatry texts  make constant reference to type A/B/C personalities and their interactions. We are somewhat along those same lines. For us, those references have evolved into our Wakefield Doctrine, which we have found to be much more palatable. To err may be human, but to create a categorization system that explains all of human behavior in a somewhat cryptic nutshell is absolutely divine. And, we have noticed along the way, a heck of a lot of fun. In an “improvisational academia” sort of way, we gleefully invent terms as we go along to describe conditions and situations that may not have existed previously. And yet, our system also works perfectly well when taken perfectly and totally seriously.

The basic premise is that there are three fundamental personality types; and much can be known and discovered about oneself ( and any other aspect of life ) by learning to identify your own basic type; how to identify the types of others; and then consider all the ramifications of the interactions. In short…this explains everything, but only from a point of view that holds human dynamics as the prime component.

The Wakefield Doctrine is built upon the idea that everyone experiences the world/reality differently, from one of three overlapping but distinctive perspectives. It also proposes that our personalities are but  a result of our perception, of our habitual responses to the world. The Wakefield Doctrine maintains that this characteristic perception of reality can be grouped into three distinct types, called for reasons stated elsewhere, clarks, scotts and rogers.

Born with the potential to view the world in one of these three ways, all people possess the characteristics of all (three) but soon (by age 7 or so) ‘become one of the three.  Put another way: we also possess the potential to see the world as a clark or a scott or a roger. It is only the predominance of qualities from one (over the other two) that makes us what we are. No one is only clarklike or scottian or rogerian.

The value of the Wakefield Doctrine is that once you can see the world ‘through the eyes’ of another, behavior becomes understandable. If a scott sees the world as a predator (would) then all action is predicated on interacting with the world as a predator. This is distinctly different from a roger, who seeing the world as a social being, predicates action and reaction on the basis of a world in which the intereactions of the herd is the dominant theme.

The above notwithstanding, following is the ‘eureka moment’ for the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers (the Wakefield Doctrine):

At one time in the past, Scott (the progenitor scott) worked at a music store doing, among other things, repair on equipment. Visiting him one day I witnessed an interaction with a customer that was to be my eureka moment.

A customer came into the store and presented to Scott a ‘double cassette recorder’  This machine had dual volume tone controls (for each cassette) and it had one master volume control.   The customer said to  Scott, “this thing is brand new, it worked for a couple of days, then it stopped working entirely, I can’t figure out what is wrong”.

Scott looked at the recorder briefly, took some electrical tape from under the counter, carefully put the tape over the master control volume (which he turned back up), slid the recorder over the counter and said to the customer, “there its all right now”.

The customer  tried the recorder, ran it through it’s paces, saw that it worked like new and walked out of the store without another word; totally satisfied that his cassette recorded had been fixed.

From this point to the present day, I have been watching the behavior of others with the thought in mind, “What kind of world does that person live in?”
