Thousand Word Monday! the Wakefield Doctrine ( …take it easy, it’s Monday! what possibly could go wrong?)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

nighthawks

…you know what I like (and fear) and (resent) and (then) really like about the Wakefield Doctrine Sunday Video Brunches?  it’s the fact that they (the Brunches) take place in the real world with real people.  not that you’re not real. I know you are, you’re a Reader and I know all about you, as a matter of fact, I know exactly what you’re doing at this very moment!  you’re doing one of three things:

  1. smiling and thinking, ‘alright, lets see you keep me here
  2. laughing and thinking ‘alright lets see what you got‘ or
  3. smiling and thinking ‘hah, never get out of this one…lets see you try

But real real is: video chatting where you see the person, and when you say something, express a thought, venture an opinion, stake a claim, make your move….whatever it is you do, there is no edet  edit, save, reprint or delete!  There’s only one button:’Publish’ and you’ve already pushed it.

…in any event, Michelle and Lizzi and I were discussing the Doctrine and got on the subject of art and artists, when Lizzi got that look in her eye and after staring to her upper left, says: “hey clark, suppose you asked Readers to send in examples of art that really spoke to them and then let the Doctrine have a ‘go at it’  do you think you would do that?”  Without looking at her, I could hear Michelle smile in approval and said, “yeah!”

Hey! Reader!  Send us in a Comment containing an example of a work of art (painting or photo or sculpture or whatever), the only requirement is that it moves you. We’ll take it from there.

(Here at the Doctrine we’re not all ‘do as we say, not as we do’,  so up there? …at the top of this Post?  That is one of my favorite pitchas…. oh btw you may need to send a link, if the Comment section doesn’t allow you to ‘cut n paste’ just let me know and I’ll get it up on the Post.)

First Up is Cheryl from A Pleasant House

Anything by Karl Larson. I love his technique and subject matter. I just want to BE IN his art work.

Thank you Cheryl

Hey!  new Commentationer up… say ‘ello to Mike (from ‘Joe Floggers’ )

Are we real?  Is this the matrix or is reality a creation of the mind?  Oh, art, yes, I am not sure really.  I have no particular thing in mind, if I like something then I like it.  It could be something from a vendor in a flea market.  I guess if I had to pick one thing it would be “The Scream”.

Thank you Mike… we think you will be right at home here at the Wakefield Doctrine (lol)

Lizzi?  you have a painting?

Tender Heart

See, now, I would not have thought that (the above) would be yours, Clark! Fascinating!

And as the alternate favourite, I do love Matisse’s ‘Icarus’ in Jazz, and Jack Vettriano’s ‘Dance me to the end of love’

I concur!

oh Cyndi!  is that you on the stairs?

PicassoGuernica

The only painting that has ever made me cry. And shake. And wonder about the human spirit.

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

sounds like I missed another great brunch. I adore the Hooper up top….I used to have it hanging in my kitchen now I have a print that a friend did for me. I’m more of a kandinski girl I think….but there’s this new exhibit at a local museum that’s just fabulous. I’ll get the link to you once I decide which one speaks to me more because I think they’re both shouting.

it was a good one… but, in the interest of multiple schedules, if Sunday does not work out, an Afterschool call would be fun and I’ve been thinking about evening calls (Late Night Video Snacks…lol maybe on a Friday night or…if I channel my college days, Thursday Night was always the best night at the dorm)

  2. Zoe says:

wow you kind of opened Pandora’s box on me. I also have this wonderful print that my brother did for me that’s really my favorite I think in all the world. I don’t know if you wanted on the web love so I will call him and find out if I can link it to you if not I can always email you a photo.

  3. Zoe says:

still hate the Android. It is supposed to say I don’t know what he wants it published on the web.

Welcome to the Doctrine, yo. I am a lot like you, in that I ‘normally’ am not ‘an art guy’… I like some stuff and other stuff, I’m mostly indifferent to…I don’t have a grounding in art that would let me state in terms that a person with a background in the arts might offer… mostly it’s ‘cool’ or nice!

hey! btw thanks for the comment, cause it jostles me to better place the pitchas and the comments and such

  7. I do not have one to make. Using this to test my laptop.

  8. See, now, I would not have thought that (the above) would be yours, Clark! Fascinating!

(as I tried to) get across, with the art (paintings and such) I like certain pieces, totally without knowing why, but I agree with you and Michelle, there is some degree of reflection of the worldview evidenced, it’s just a question of being skilled enough in the Doctrine to express it.

  9. Cyndi says:

Ooh! GUERNICA – I actually cried when I saw that painting when I was at the Museo Thiessen in Madrid – I could not believe how big, gorgeous and how MOVING it was. A-freaking-MAZING. Shall I send a version to you? There’s so much to that painting.
In other news: you know what I want, Clark? A post on how clarks can better-deal with the emotional roller-coasters that are rogers. I know, I know…there was that whole thing with my sister. But today, I was in a professional development meeting and I was affronted by a stupid roger. He was a strong roger who liked to hear himself speak. He liked to take charge. I know he wasn’t a scott. Every scott I’ve ever met, I’ve been able to tell within seconds. No, he delegated himself to take charge of this little group we were in and then proceeded to “nominate” me to “facilitate” since we were practicing on how to actually ‘facilitate” groups in work settings. He told me, “you have a gentle personality.” Then, when I tried to “lead” (which I tend to be diplomatic and invite discussion) he proceeded to strong-arm me and essentially take over. Even others in the group commented. Once again, he didn’t piss me off enough for my scott to turn on, but I knew this time exactly what was happening. Instead of reacting, I actually started to meditate so I could tune the dickhead out. Then he told me, “you did a good job, but you didn’t show confidence. You should be more confident.” It wasn’t that I wasn’t confident, it was about halfway into this stupid activity that I decided I didn’t want to facilitate any more and I was unfamiliar with the process, so I asked for help from the woman running the conference. Apparently he didn’t like that.
I was a little traumatized from the whole experience and there’s a reason I WILL NEVER facilitate a big group of people – it’s simply not in my DNA and I don’t care to – not when there are personalities like this that just utterly….piss me off. I’m comfortable on the outside in this case. I don’t WANT to be a leader, nor a follower. I have embraced my outsideness. I love it. If it means I have less run-ins with the emotions of rogers, then I’m better off. I can’t deal with that crap.
Crap. I’m such a freaking clark.
    LOL.

Two things: a) I will write a Post and aim it in the above direction and 2) sounds like a good week for an After School Special, non?

I was about to say I would like to respond in a little while, but the heck with that, if you don’t mind, I will use this Comment to get the Post started tomorrow morning… hey got a pitcha that illustrates your feelings on the subject of ‘working with rogers’? send it on down (can be anything, your own work or famous painting…)

  11. Haha…Guernica could summarize my dilemma of working with rogers. It’s about war. HAHAHA

  12. After School special? Drat…I have an Odyssey of the Mind meeting on Thursdays from now on. A special Friday call in? End of week special? 3:30? I could do that. :P
