5th List of 10 Things of Thankful on the 2nd Day after the 4th of July the Wakefield Doctrine (just be grateful it wasn’t the 10th List from next October!)

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

DSC09799

Today is Saturday. Saturday (has become) the Ten Things of Thanks day. The TTofT is a blog hop created by DownSpring Considerer. It is a blog hop, with a difference. The difference is that it runs from this morning through to tomorrow night. The effect (of this difference) is to give a really cool ‘feel’ to this ‘hop. As most of us know, blog hops are great ways to get out to meet other writers. Our other favorite, not to be missed, blogs are:

  1. ‘Finish the Sentence Friday’ (from the twisted minds of bloggerini: Janine and Kate and Stephanie and Dawn)  and
  2. Twisted MixTape Tuesday (from the depraved (in the good sense of the word) thoughts of Jen and Kristi  clarklike females extraordinaire .

Both of these hops are fun and challenging. But they are for the one designated day. This, the-hop-that-Considerer-created, is different. It’s difference is simply that it runs for the whole weekend, and the effect of this more leisurely pace is hard to underestimate! Saturdays are busy for me, so I don’t get to the computer but maybe twice today. But that’s ok cause new Posts will be showing up through the night and into the morning. So there’s time.  You know, the most difficult thing (for me) with traditional blog hops is having the time to read all the entries. Ten Things is one of the few bloghops where, I say without fear of contradiction, everyone reads everyone else’s Post.  (you might miss one or two…you might not have a Comment on one… but  ‘share them out’…otherwise there is a certain scottian woman on these pages, I won’t mention any Christine-type names, but remember… read them all). lol

ok!! I know!!! the List!!!  (can’t I put: ‘am grateful that you aren’t standing at my shoulder saying, “the 1o List!! Write the 10 List…check the spelling and hit Publish!! ?)  (no, huh?)

Ten Things:

1) Being in the culture over here in the middle North American continent, we have a very scottian holiday in July, the day before yesterday, in fact. I am grateful that our neighbors a) simply ran out of fireworks, 2) had less money for holiday explosives than in previous years, or 3) are getting old and tired of setting off fireworks. Una our dog, is very grateful…as am I, for the relatively early end to the celebration.

2) I am grateful for the level of denial that I have cultivated over a lifetime. It is sufficiently ingrained that I was able to welcome the end of the rain and the return of the sun, by sitting on my deck  sans shirt (and shoes). Skin damage me? nah!  feel that solar radiation!!  (I did have the sense to wear a hat. a Wakefield Doctrine hat!!  see the photo of the hat here.)

3) Increasing age is finally paying off!! I find, ( I’m still in the yard, without a shirt or shoes, but a hat (on my damn head), that I enjoy mowing the lawn despite the multi-legged, flying creatures. I am grateful that, in some cases, not caring is a good thing.

4) I am grateful that we were able to have the resources to set a aside a spot in the yard for our first dog, Ola. Thats the photo up above. It’s a cool spot, horticulturally speaking, as over the years, I have tried to plant a lawn type ground cover, then a stone garden… of late, I am working with the ‘haunted graveyard look’

5) I am grateful for being halfway through today’s list

6) I am grateful that I am comfortable (because I surmise that my co-hosts are also comfortable with a certain level of…. non-orthodoxy on these pages), with not having to conform to any prescribed style for writing a Grat List. I feel this way because it is not a ‘normally occurring state of mind’ for me. Not that I am un-grateful for the things I have, it is just that I am not one of those people who are in touch with the GSOTM* but this hop just happens to compliment current efforts that involve the Wakefield Doctrine

7) Got to put in a word  for technology… I mean, we have all expressed this, but this week is a time when I sense  that I am making advances in my efforts to assimilate-my-own-damn-self-into-the-21st-C  Have a tablet… beginning to understand how to use it… for work largely, but definitely for this here blog stuff here.

8) Grateful to the tech stuff and the willingness of others to participate in strange, exciting and scary internet activities ( no!  not that!! …course, I’m not saying that that would be a bad thing… but nothing so…scottian) I got to do a Wakefield Doctrine Video Brunch last Sunday. And our own Considerer was co-hostini… and Michelle Liew joined us and Melanie (from ‘Down Over’ stopped in…had some difficulties with connectioning) and DownSpring Cyndi totally joined us… I think I saw somewhere she said she might be joining us… Cyndi!! yo!

9) I am ever grateful for the Wakefield Doctrine, which might sound a bit odd, coming from the writer of the blog. But the thing with the Doctrine is, despite having spent 20 or more years putting the information, descriptions and such together the way it was when I started the blog, none of that could have existed if I did not have the experience that is cited in the ‘About’ page, (the ‘Eureka Moment). I take no credit for the insight that hit me in the face that day. What follows, well I’m grateful for

10) and following up on that last, I am grateful to the people I have met through these blogs things… and all of the interactions and conversations I have had. In a sense, I am being very selfish in that my gratitude is for the things that I have been given/have been fortunate to receive… apply whatever language best suits your worldview. I totally got lucky ’round here. The Doctrine is more than it was when I started writing this blog and it is all because of people like Considerer and Cyndi and Denise all the rest.

(Speaking of Cyndi… you have her to thank for the following video, lol)

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Slu says:

    Ha… Happened by via Kristi’s Blog. Enjoyed your “10.” And the Hat is too cool!!! Enjoy that deck sans whatever all weekend, my man. Slu

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Slu

      yeah… those hats (‘for your damn head’) were a lot of fun. I was thinking about doing them again…but it seems that golf caps are easy to photo graph, but the docTees are more practical.

      Kristi do got a way about her over at Finding Ninee, totally enjoy reading it.

  2. Cyndi says:

    I’m thankful for the Doctrine, too. Just look at today’s blog post. :)
    I’m predicting that you might have a little bit of a lobster tan. I get those sometimes – I can relate. Hope your weekend is good and I will do my best to call in tonight. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      tres coolistico!! (damn! thanks a lot, Cyndi now I have the B52s playing in my head!) I think I will have to get that song and stick it on my Post (lol thats the thing about this hop… it just never stops mutating)

      I’ll have the call-in line open 218-339-0422 512103# (at the prompt) and I will be sending out a ‘Hangout’ notice all for 8:00

  3. In no particular order: Love that you gave Christine a shout-out for caring about people reading posts – it annoys me as well when I leave somebody a brilliant comment and they don’t even pop over to say hello.
    Thanks for the shout for TMTT – I’m really looking forward to this week’s part 2 of the 80’s because the 80’s were awesome and I was part-Scott for a while during them.
    I think your neighbors appreciate you wearing pants.
    Wear sunscreen – my hubs had a nasty melanoma removed from his shoulder a few years back. The hat helps.
    Oh to the doggie fireworks days (fireworks here are pronounced “Bayou Wox” – say it out loud. Makes sense and is a tribute now here to my brandly-new four year old (brandly should be a word).
    Happy long weekend friend! Your yard looks quite awesome.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kristi

      Thanks for joining up… we know the (‘did-you-hear-what-happened-at-that-bloghop-I-mean-him-I-can-understand-but-her!-well-just-goes-to-show-you-it’s-the-quiet-ones-you-have-to-watch!) part of the 10 Thing Weekend is underway…lol

      the haunted grave? lol Ola would have been amused… (it’s hard to see in the photo,its a corner of our backyard)

  4. I am grateful for having getting to know you, Lizzi, Cyndi and so many others that you named too. This thing called blogging has really helped me in meeting some wonderful people and I thank you for being a part of this fun, as well as uplifting blog hop. Seriously, always ends my week on such a positive and happy note. So thank you as always for that!! :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Janine

      well, I’m glad they’re here to take care of the ‘uplifting’ part of the blog hop… you (and the other three bloggerini), I thank for getting me into the whole hop thing. I’ll be over to visit at ‘Confessions…’ a little later in the afternoon (the cool thing about the blog is on a busy day, I know the conversation will still be going strong )

  5. 1. I hear you. I HATE fireworks. 2. @Kristi Campbell The neighbors, the birds and the squirrels are probably glad about the pants . 4. The haunted graveyard look will keep the Avon lady away. 10. Love me some B-52s.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Dyanne

      “…Boy’s in bikinis, girls in surfboards
      lol
      (Nothing against (our) scottian brothers and sisters), but fireworks are on a level with fine wine, candlelit dinners, moonlight and Barry White on the stereo for the scotts out there! Fortunately (for the neighbors, not so much for the fauna) our house is set in the woods, sort of behind the other houses on our street.

  6. The haunted graveyard is coming along swimgingly (your comment about your yard made me snort…and I am most definitely NOT a snorter. It takes a lot to make me snort. Gufaw? Maybe, but not snort. You can ask In The Coop. Well done.)

  7. Cyndi says:

    Oh MAN! I had some neighbors show up at 7:45 to bring us beer for fixing the road. HAHAHAHA.
    But then we ended up drinking wine AND beer and they left about 5 mins. ago – I was hoping ya’ll were still on the line. DRAT!
    Man oh man! I’m so sorry I missed the call! Hmmm…I really need some Doctrine interaction. Perhaps we could tentatively schedule another after school special on Thursday or something. I know classes end at 4:40…maybe at 5?
    Or 8 – like a regular call-in?

  8. Geez, “take a day off” and look what you miss! Al these blogs to read! Mabes I need the old geritol. …put your right foot in, take you right foot out put your left foot in and….turn it all the hell about? LOL
    NIce posting. Thanks for sharing.

    P.S. Will check back to see if Cyndi’s After School Special gets scheduled.

  9. I am so glad for this blog hop, thank you guys for creating it, not only I have a better way to look at my life at the end of the week thanks to my own list, but I get to read your wonderful posts! I love the way all of you write! I am not as good as I want to be but hey! English is my second language, and as long as you guys understand what I am trying to say, it’s all good.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Natalia

      yes, yes it is… (all good). I have said it before ’round here… the cool thing about this blog hop is it going on through the weekend.

  10. Joy says:

    Great list as always!

    It surely is a good feeling to know your first dog will always be close to you.

    So cool that you always make your list something special. It really stands out from all the others and I think it is great that your blog is so unique!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Joy

      thank you, Joy. lol it (the ‘standing out’ is as much my struggling with expressing myself, as it is any specific drive to be creative… but this blog and the atmosphere that Considerer has managed to nurture lends itself to that kind of experimentation.)

  11. Amy says:

    This is a great list! I’m hoping to remember to participate next week!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Hey Amy

      yeah, this is one of the better blog hops(imo) runs through the weekend so there isn’t the pressure to get (your) Post in within the first couple of hours, some of us will submit on Sat morning, others Sunday afternoon. Fun

  12. Jak says:

    It is I! The official TToT Straggler*!

    I’ve not yet reached the age of tiring of fireworks. I suppose if it was a neighbor, though, and they were going all night long I could see how it may be annoying. More so given the dog’s reaction. The BBQ party I went to was pretty fun and I was surprised the dog of the hosts didn’t panic or anything when they lit off fireworks. I’m sure Una is very pleased it is all over now!

    You are way more technologically advanced than I am. If you are open to swapping some tech for DNA samples let me know…

    Glad your video chat was a lot of fun!

    Mentioning the reading of all posts got me to thinking I believe Ive been missing one of the main aspects of the hop. That being: visiting the two people listed before you and (all?) hosts/co-hosts. I think I may have to backtrack a bit here to make sure I’m following the “rules”… “guidelines”?

    *Not to be mistaken for the similar-sounding TToT Strangler!

    Jak

    P.S. Where were your Astrixes?! Astrixi?

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jak

      I try to (not sure why*) read all the entries in the course of the weekend. This is actually possible due to the fact that there are only 20 or so other Posts (as opposed to 50 or more) and I have 2 days to do it in. I think the traditional etiquette of hops is (are) to read the one preceding and the one post-ceding, but given how much I get off on other ‘actual’ people reading my shit, I give it my best**.

      The video chat is truly a work in progress. George Jetson I am not (yet). The idea is simple: call a hangout for a specific time and the pray to gods of bandwidth. I will be continuing the effort, you do know that you gots to call in one of these here video calls here, right? Will keep all apprised of progress in learning the damn thing.

      The asteroid? Damn, did I do that orphan aztec again? Where the hell is it??! I can’t find it now…. that happens more than I would like to admit. Well, I think I will semi-invoke Douglas Adams and say, “42”

      * actually I am sure why and it does have everything to do with being a clark
      ** which may mean simply reading and referring out, as opposed to writing a Comment, something I do try for
