Twisted MixTape Tuesday 14

The 1980s  a Decade of False Hopes and Disappointment.

This was the Decade that…could have been so much more.  But alas, instead of hearing the sound of an over-cranked 8 track blasting from Kristi’s mother’s car sitting at the curb in front of my parents house, it has mutated to:

(in front of  Spencer’s Gifts at the Midland Mall)

“…hey!   …hey!  …you guys doin’ anything tomorrow night?  …yeah, maybe  …cool,  hey, Scott’s band is playing at the Bon Vue!!  …yeah?  …yeah  …you want me to put you on the Guest List?  …hey that’d be great!! …yeah, it’d be good …see ya later”
(“…hey man, Kristi  I think she likes you  …yeah?  …yeah  …but Jen!  I heard she…  …yeah?  ….yeah,  but man, don’t even think about it, she is way  out of your league”)

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Comments

  1. A fine, fine representative of 80’s music fer sure. Man. And I would so like to meet you at the Mall but I’m hooking up with some…..metal friends…..that’s right……where’s the metal!?

    Now I have David Byrne stuck in my head. Thanks for that one buddy (so very damn catchy). Think I’ll head over and see if Ms.’s Jen and Kristi put up some hard stuff. lol

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @GOTE

      actually there is some totally* (…man) listenable lists ranging from what I think could be considered the ‘post punk’ at Lance’s My Blog Can Beat Up Your Blog and Middleage Monologues has Dee and them! …haven’t gotten through all of the Posts… very worth the trip over to Jen and Kristi‘s.

      * funny how, at a certain stage in life using an expression that was popular 30 years ago seems acceptable lol

  2. wtf man…lol Dee as the “reckers” of metal intelligence? You puts me on:)
    Was just at Kristi’s and coincidentally was about to visit Lance. Absolutely though I must see what Jen has cookin’ over that side of town. Later dude.*

    *Think I’m going to used an inordinate amount of vernaculer from decades past in my conversations today.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Denise

      I should be more embarrassed by how much out-of-time* vernac I seem to enjoy using.

      *holy shit! an un-planned tie-in to Huey

  3. Loved your 80’s picks, especially Huey Lewis and the News’, “Back in Time”. Truly one of my favorite songs from my all time favorite movies of all time. Great job today Clark, seriously on these song picks!!! :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Janine

      it’s been a double-edge sword, this TMT Tuesday… (the good)am enjoying listening to music I have not listened to in a while and (the less good) having to see that you and a lot of the other Friends of the Doctrine were listening from middle school (or grade school!!) ayiiee!! lol

  4. LOL

  5. Dream says:

    Funny you mentioned Super Freak. I loved that song, but I was so naive back then I had no clue what it actually referred to. Great list this week!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Dream

      thank you… this decade was more challenging (and therefore, in a way) more fun… one song leads to another and then you’re all “oh man! I remember that…I loved that song!

  6. Awesome choices with the exception of Huey Lewis – for whatever reason, I hated that song then and hate it now. Your other choices more than make up for it though because I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL, am a super freak and am quite interested in the games people play. See what I did there? No? Oh. Right. That’s me rocking four hours of sleep, after lazily posting a crapy contribution to TMTT and then having to spend the past hour trying to salvage it this morning. Which means maybe it’s better than it was at zero dark thirty when you* were the first commenter.
    Hey – how come Jen’s out of Scott’s league but I’m not? Oh. Right. It was the 80’s and I wasn’t really out of anybody’s league.
    *congratulations and no f*cking way am I editing your comment to be “appropriate” – I much prefer inappropriate. Dude.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Kristi

      lol

      Joan Jett’s song is in my personal Top Five of All Frickin Time Rock ‘n Roll songs

      As to leagues…. er, I did not realize how terribly, terribly old I am until I went to your Post… aiyeee ( I claim immunity under the Doctrine of Literary Immunity and man!-this-is-a-retrospective-Post-how-was-I-to-she-was-with-the-Russians-too?’

      Your Post… totally loved it… the haircut (you do know about clarklike females and their facination with their heads and they’s feet, right?*

      * of course you do! purple hair (just an accent!) isn’t due until next Decade!

  7. I just realized it still sucks and am updating it again. Is this that asshole Roger coming out in me? Gah.

    (sorry Roger. but you have to admit, sometimes you really are an asshole. it’s just the way it is. have Clark explain it to you in nicer terms.)

  8. You have listed all my favorites, Clark! Especially Huey Lewis!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Michelle

      cool… it (the Huey Lewis) is kind of a doublt threat, his music and the use on the Back to the Future franchise

  9. Slu says:

    Nice List Dude… Love your choice of Alan Parsons. Maybe next week for me. Enjoyed, Slu

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Slu

      yeah, I figured, what the hell, lets give them at least one ‘Games People Play’ lol

  10. Cyndi says:

    Oh the 80’s: with the big hair, neon leotards, and interesting music. I was born in 79, but I consider the 90’s to be the music that I really like. LOL But, there was some good stuff out of the 80s and…you picked some good ones. :)
    I hope you’re having a fine day over there. :)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Cyndi

      The 80’s were an interesting time*.

      * yes, in the (proverbial) Chinese curse sense as well as in the more gooder sense… the ‘Eureka Moment’ of the damn Wakefield Doctrine (then known simply as ‘the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers’) occured at some point in the early 1980s. (So, the eighties were which of the two?) lol

  11. Did you go back and realize that I published because I thought nobody would see it until I fixed it this morning?

  12. troy P. says:

    Ah yes, I was waiting for Rick James! He’s buried here in Bflo – did you want me to tell him you said “hi?”

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Troy

      Amazing fellow, I should know more of his music, but I cannot for the life of me, hear any other song that he wrote (in my head). That must be difficult (well, not so much now, being all dead and such), but I remember seeing Alvin Lee (speaking of talented dead people, sometime in the early seventies. Now he was a good musician and a guitarist to be contended with, but from the first note he played that night, some idiot in the back row was yelling. ‘Goin Home! play Goin Home’. Funny things, these audiences.

  13. Jen says:

    This is an awesome cross-section of the 80’s. I really wanted to include some Talking Heads, because the were so unique yet so 80’s. So thanks, because now they are permanently on the youtube playlist. Forever. And ever. And thanks for thinking I’d be out of your league. But if your friend had a band, and you could get me on the guest list, I’m guessing I’d be in your league ;-)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jen

      lol… agree, and they are a very clear example of the range of diversity of the music in the 80’s to a degree that is making me see it differently. You have created a rather interesting little space here, particularly with the ‘Decade Lists’
      Tell me, is it my imagination, or are the Posts subtly changing as we move up in time? Seeing this written, it occurs to me that is should be clear that the focus sharpens (and therefore reflected in the Post/lists) as the demographic begins to match the times. or something. in any event this has been one of my favorite bhops in my weekly schedule. (It is actually the most ‘fun’ to come up with).

  14. OK…so you have Joan Jett on your list so that just makes your list…well…possibly my favorite! Shhhhh…please don’t tell the other Twisted Mix Tapers…I might get some hate mail! hahahahaaaaa! ;)

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @M Monologues

      serially, this song has one of the best ‘hooks’ of songs since… Rock n Roll Hootchie Coo (and Walk this Way) and Back in Black. Don’t worry, your secret is safe over here…lol

  15. Jak says:

    YES!!! The 80s! Hells-to-the-Yeah!

    Now we are talking :-) I knew all of these songs… it’s a miracle! Though, to be honest, I really enjoyed being exposed to music I wasn’t familiar with… it’s great really.

    I can deal with False Hope and Disappointment if Life is beating me down with some Talking Heads! I love that song.

    Just know… in that video, he may be flawlessly reenacting the way I look when trying to understand the Doctrine! But it’s all good…

    Same as it ever was ;-)

    Jak

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      @Jak

      “…and who are these interesting people.” lol I’m finding the 80’s an interesting time in the re-visitationing sense. Of course, everything, looked at from the proper perspective can be novel and therefore quite educational.
