clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 60 clarkscottroger | the Wakefield Doctrine - Part 60

pssst!…pssst…shhh…over here! wanna see a cool* personality theory in action?

Hey!

The Wakefield Doctrine is a tool for living. Knowing about the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers is a way to have an edge, in dealing with people every day. Doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you interact with other people every day of your life. Pretty obvious statement, isn’t it? Well, if we don’t start with something obvious and simple then we sure as hell are not going to be able to give you something obvious and simple to help, are we now?

The challenge of daily life:  people, the things they say and the things they do…to us, because of us, about us and over us! Unless you are living in a cell or on a mountain top somewhere, you are going to have people in your life.
This ‘challenge’ of daily life is really a ‘question’, isn’t it?

  • What do they really want?
  • Why do they have to act like that?

This is not to say that you have to know the answer! You probably don’t know the answer to this question about most of the people you will meet today. So what?  Life goes on! You go to work, you go to school, you go shopping, you go out with your friends…but, if

…Anyone out there ever has a minute where you think, “jeez! what’s his deal?”  or maybe you are at the mall shopping with your wife of 15 years and she says something that makes you stop walking and stare and say “What the fuck?!” or real simply you and your best friend are at lunch in the cafeteria and some other kids sit down with you and your friend turns into a totally different person…

If you have felt like this, then  the Wakefield Doctrine blog is your answer.  This is not the same thing as saying, “hey try this and see what you think!”  Sorry, folks it don’t work that way.

We have been doing this blog for 2 years now and one thing that has become clear to those of us here, Progenitors and DownSprings alike, is that the Wakefield Doctrine is not for everyone. It’s really kinda interesting, most people who read these Posts, ‘get it’, they understand that the Doctrine is describing 3 personality types. They get that each type can be recognised by our descriptions and when they ‘spot one’ they see all the characteristics that go with their type. So far, so good. They even get the easy parts, scotts are wildmen (and hot women) and clarks are weird guys ( and sexy women) and rogers are….er  “such rogers!” Most of you get that. But

…but most of you miss a key part of the Wakefield Doctrine. The part that makes the difference between an amusing blog and something like…I don’t know…advice your parents gave you… don’t date guys who right away tell you they know how depressed you sometimes feel, or stay away from the kid who has an uncle who visits once every 3 to 5 years or look both ways, count your change, wash your hands, wait 60 minutes after a meal before you go into the water, always wear a condom, never tell your friends everything, look before you leap, thank god you’re a country boy and measure once and cut twice… you know that advice….

…we are finding that most people are missing the aggressiveness to take the tools and the insights that are here and applying them to themselves, and that totally makes the difference between the amusing and the useful, the practical and the silly, the clever and beneficial.

So despite what some of the DownSprings (and one of the Progenitors) are inclined to say, we will say, ‘want some really useful advice?”

‘lets all go to the lobby’…personality theory, Drive-in Theaters and You

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine  Coming Attractions!!  (Previews of tomorrow’s) Video-Friday!!

Before we discuss tomorrows insightful Video Post,  lets talk a little about the Wakefield Doctrine and Age and Gender and Culture.

The Wakefield Doctrine is predicated upon the idea that everyone experiences the world/reality differently, from one of three overlapping but distinctive perspectives. (further) …we are all born with the qualities of all three personality types, clarks and scotts and rogers. With this potential, at some point in early childhood we settle on one of three, we become predominately a scott or a roger or a clark. The other two qualities do not go away, we always have them within and sometimes we will act like one of the other two types. Finally, the Wakefield Doctrine and (the three personality types it names) is not only gender-neutral and culture-neutral, it is also ‘age-neutral’. This is a rather awkward way of saying,  ‘it does not matter if you are a 67 year old Spanish man or a 13 year old girl raised in Singapore, if you are a clark then you are a clark….(and may god have mercy on your soul!)

We mention the’ age thing’ because of the Drive-in theater motif/reference. Don’t believe there are any such things left, at least not in the part of the world that contains the Wakefield. In any event, age does not matter, (the) culture you are living in does not matter and (the) gender you claim does not matter. If you are a clark, then you are an outsider, if you are a scott, then you are a predator and if you are a roger, you are a member of the herd. We will leave to the sociologists among our Readers to describe how much aggressiveness (in an individual) is permitted in say Japan versus Germany or the degree to which an individual roger is allowed to exclude clarks in say, Italy as compared to Russia.

But the heck with that, we want to tell you about tomorrow’s Video Post ( Video lloc número sis)!
DownSpring glenn and I did a video during the last Saturday Night Drive, but we ‘ran long’, so long that ‘the youtube’ totally would not let  it be uploaded. So yesterday, through the magic of technology ( or the technology of magic )* I got glenn on the phone and we did a shorter form of Saturdays’ vid. In it, we cover much the same ground, i.e.  how scotts see the Doctrine and how scotts explain the Doctrine to people. ( …no, lol   not nearly as much spitting, hand-waving, shouting or dove-head-biting as you might think ). For those of us who have called in on Saturdays, you will hear a very impressive difference in the tenor of DownSpring glenn’s conversation. Thoughtful and compelling, you will be as pleased as we were at the insight this conversation afforded us.

This is a great place to remind everyone out there, the Wakefield Doctrine is everything that we say it is…you will find yourself in one of the three personality types ( clarks or scotts or rogers ) and you will also find yourself acting like one of the other two ( from time to time ). You will also recognise that much of how we describe each of these three is exaggerated,  clarks are weird guys who mumble and that rogers are judgemental and geeks and that scotts are sluts and psychos. That is not true (well, maybe not such an exaggeration in the case of…) We are using hyperbole to illustrate subjective traits of people who you will never meet in person ( unless you come to the Wakefield Doctrine Global Pic a Nic…dates in 2012 to be announced).  Exaggerated or not, the ‘worldview/reality’ that gives rise to these three personality types remains valid.

Don’t want to give too much away about the Video Post! Tune in tomorrow and give a listen. Write in or send us your own video response.  (there’s a hat with our name on it, for you if you do!)

it’s all with the Board of Education…our theory of clarks, scotts and rogers

Welcome!  Welcome!  Come on in!!  No, don’t click away!  We have sooo much to tell you, your head will thank you, trust us.

This is the official blog site of the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers ) and here (somewhere in all these frickin mis-categorized and totally confusing pages) you will find the Codex de Doctrine.  Everything you need to know about how all of mankind, all peoples fall into one of three ( that’s right! I said 3) personality types. And if you read and if you understand what is written here, you will not only know how to identify which of the three personality types a person is ( doesn’t even matter if they are a friend or a lover, a family member or a sworn enemy or even the person you pass on the street/in the corridor) you will know how that person thinks.

That’s right, you read that correctly! The Wakefield Doctrine is claiming to give you the power to know how another person is thinking….and feeling….and (how) they might act  in any damn situation.  A mighty bold claim, is it not?
It is a mighty bold claim, you are correct. We are prepared to back that claim up.

As you read these Posts ( the ‘on-going conversation’ here at the Wakefield Doctrine) and the Pages (the established knowledge and wisdom and hats of the Doctrine), one thing will become abundantly clear…the Wakefield Doctrine is without doubt the most useful tool for understanding the behavior of people in our lives. Whether you are confused about why your husband is such an asshole at times or why your best friend confides in you only to take the secrets you have given her and shares them like McDonald’s French Fires with her friends in class the next day, the Wakefield Doctrine is your answer. If you are the kind of person who thinks a lot and doesn’t want much from people, satisfied simply with a few friends and no fights, then you need to read what the Wakefield Doctrine has to say (to you). If you have trouble controlling your impulses, if you are the life of the party but can’t help but notice that your friends are looking at you with something less than admiration, then you should read this here blog here. If you have trouble with people not living up to expectations, if you know that your spouse is letting you down and you simply want a way to make them all understand, then come to us here, write a question to one of the DownSprings and you will get the answer that you deserve.

Now the Wakefield Doctrine is not a cult or a religion or a basement-born rant produced by ‘dis-enfranchised, over stimulted, under-medicated’ members of a culture that is focused nearly exclusively on youth. The Wakefield Doctrine is:

  •  a way of understanding what the other person is experiencing in a situation
  • a framework which allows you to truly see the world as another person sees it
  • a tool that you can use to see yourself as the world sees you, not as your guilt would have you see yourself
  • a way of inter-acting with others that allows a level of communication that you would never be able to achieve on your own

As we said at the beginning of this Post, these are bold claims. For those of us familiar with the benefits of this personality-typing system, the above is only the tip of the iceberg-of-understanding-of-others! We are actually learning new aspects of the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers every day, with every Saturday Night Drive* we learn ways to apply the insights that this tool offers. We learn more about the characteristics of each of the three personality types! And with each thing we learn, we have new ways to act, new ways to apply this Doctrine, each and all of us here can see times when we are in situations that used to baffle us, and now we say,  …” of course,  now I see! she was not being ‘stuck-up’! She was just distracted, what a clark!”  or ‘goddamn, that guy is scary, he is all over the place…wait a minute! a scott! Now I know how to get and hold his attention“!  or even,  “ok family is important, she wants whats best…no, if you think that she is a roger then that is not being controlling, she only wants to keep what is good about the family from spinning off and being lost in this crazy world. damn, now that is not being an awful person…that is actually the way they are trying to help!!”

Thank you Wakefield Doctrine!

the laughing Personality Theorist

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)! We are glad you could stop by for a moment and relax with the Progenitors and DownSprings.

Maybe it was the near-miss with the Rapture, perhaps the sense of,  ‘hey-the-old-coot-was-wrong-but-you-know-life-is-unpredictable’! or perhaps we are just achieving greater market penetration and message persistence. Bottom line is that Readers are writing, Comments are being received and before you know it, you will find yourself sitting on a bus and out of the corner of your eye you will see a girl with a sporty hat on, one that has something written on it, something that looks like… “Wakefi…”   then the cab she is getting into takes off down the street.

There still is much work to be done. There is still the little matter of (learning) to communicate with the scotts and the rogers in their native language. Fortunately we have Ms. AKH as our scottian ambassadoress-ette, but she is busy over at her blog, ‘the Three Personality Types of the Wakefield Doctrine and we have Progenitor roger doing his thing for the herds of the werld over at the ever-provocative,   board ’em and care ’em so it falls to the clarks to try and craft a message that ‘gets right down and is easily understood’ (thx Malcolm).
The good news is we have Fabri writing in and showing new Readers that  it’s not so bad contributing a Comment or two and (totally new) Commentator Mike wrote us a Comment over at the Doctrine Redux just yesterday! No pressure, but on the basis of his Comment, I got a feeling Mike will get into this thing of ours pretty quick and we”ll have even more help in getting the Wakefield Doctrine all public and such.

So to our new Comentators, we’d like to say,  ‘hidy, y’all…glad ya could make it! Set a spell and see what’cha think of what we done with the place’ (Pretty convincing patois, non?)

It’s funny about the timing of our two new contributors, they both showed up at a time that we are wrestling with the ever-present question, “are you conveying to Readers the sense of purpose, the sense of fun that the Progenitors and DownSprings feel participating in this blog?’
The answer is mostly, ‘sort of, but not really as good a job as the Wakefield Doctrine deserves’. But we keep writing and trying new ways of getting out the message of the Doctrine. You can read about the Doctrine here or over at DS#1’s Girlie fer sure’ or at AKH’s or even at the Doctrine Redux (warning! the redux is kinda dry and such, no photos and no music vids!) but you will see Readers writing in Comments there!.

Why the heavy pitch for Comments? Cause the Wakefield Doctrine, while perfect in it’s description of the three personality types that account for all people in the world, is nothing without being shared. It is not really about you sitting in your room or your classroom or in your kitchen thinking, “my god, my spouse is such a clark” or “jeez, now that I know my best friend is a scott, it is easier to take the temper tantrums” or even “remember,  he/she is a roger and they act that way sometimes, don’t let it spoil your fun”.
While these things will happen to you once you understand the basics of the Wakefield Doctrine ( the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers) the point of all this effort, the reason there are DownSprings is that we have fun with it. As soon as you get comfortable with this theory of personality, immediately tell your best friend about it; but don’t tell everyone (at work or school or at home) about it. Not everyone will get it.
Just let it be a thing that you and your friend get a kick out of…at least for now.    And don’t forget us here at the Doctrine!!  …we’ll always be happy to trade stories of spotting clarks, scotts and rogers and we will share insights into how the Doctrine is expressed in people…that we know…in real life.  That is the point of this here blog here.

And the video Post format that we are trying out seems to be getting very positive feedback! F0r example, occasional FOTD MJM writes:  “…listened to about 6 mins. – not bad, tho for someone who knows the Theory wasn’t exciting:) by the way, didn’t recognize the road, where were you…was surprised at how well you did – no hesitations, etc. just smooth talking and it is un-clarklike.”
Coming from a roger, this is high praise indeed! If you or anyone you know has a question or a topic you would like to hear expounded on or simply a shout out, let us know! These things (the vid Posts) seem to be clocking in at 8 to 10 minutes, plenty of time to address your questions.

So to all you new Readers…the fun here is being in on a thing that is cool and only a handful of people in the world know about it…for now!  And the hats! Should be a new shipment coming in, so get your request for a (nearly free) Wakefield Doctrine hat (for your damn head) in right away!

And unlike that stuffy Wakefield Doctrine Redux blog, here, at the Doctrine, we gots videos!

(I have gone on record elsewhere in these letters that the “country music” of the current day is the rock music of the late 70s and 80’s re-choreographed. Someone tell me I ‘m lying)
