Tuesday -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Fortunately for us, and Readers, both new and old, we (your Curator) has had the input of scotts and rogers down through the years of these pages.

It goes without saying that these ‘Friends of the Doctrine’ (the scotts and rogers) have all had significant secondary clarklike aspects.

New Readers: it is said that if you return to this blog more than once (and not under duress) then it’s safe to say you’re one of two kinds of Readers:

  • clarks
  • scotts (or) rogers with a significant secondary clarklike aspects*

The reason being, it is within the personal reality of the Outsider (clarks) that you find curiosity and pleasure at the idea of new, unusual, interesting, odd and off-the-wall ideas/theories/perspectives.

*Quick recap: we, all of us, have one predominant worldview lasting a lifetime. One. However, the qualities of ‘the other two’ remain accessible …somehow. The net result is that you can find a perfectly normal clark (well, stay with us lol) who at times and in certain situations exhibits an unbridled aggressiveness found only in scotts. Equally, it is possible to find rogers who demonstrate an openness to radical, hell, heretical ideas (granted they keep them in safely locked display cases lol) and finally, we all have one friend who is a scott but his secondary clarklike aspect is sufficient to allow him to contribute to our understanding of Predators.
Important Point: more to clarks: you have scottian friends, (well at least one), and have had a long-standing relationship with a roger. You love this Doctrine thing (well, duh) and you tell them how cool it is. Their response: I don’t get it/well, if you enjoy it by all means have fun/hey, maybe you can play tricks on ’em. Sorry. Lack of secondary clarklike aspect. We understand. No, it’s nothing to do with the idea or with how you are relating it. A scott or a roger with a secondary clark deficiency will never ‘get the Doctrine’. Not because they think it’s stupid or anything. Just a lack of free-range imagination/subversive curiosity/renagade sense of whimsy.

We’re sorry. And no! It’s not how you are explaining it. It’s them, not you.**

Bottom line is that some of the qualities of one’s non-predominant worldview can be available. We (your Curator) is an example of a clark with a significant secondary scottian (‘scoe-shun’) aspect. This is exemplified in the assertion (for clarks) that ‘we abhor being the center of attention but will not tolerate being ignored‘.

So, back to the ‘prompt Comment’ for today.

** oh man! remind us to relate one of the single most beneficial insights derived from the Wakefield Doctrine. Sorry, it’s a clark thing. You might get it if your secondary is strong, tomorrow, we promise

Misky, she be sayin’…

Damn outa time! Will return to the question she poses in her Comment tomorrow. Promise. (It has to do with how would a roger deal with rebellious or unruly members of their Herd. Great topic).

Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

  1. Frank Hubeny says:

I have heard people talk about alpha, beta, and sigma characters. How do they fit into the Wakefield Doctrine? I suspect the alpha is a scott; the beta is a roger; the sigma is a clark. But I might be oversimplifying.

not oversimplifying. you’re putting catchup on your Cheerios (lol)

there are many other systems and ways to categorize personalities and personality types… some so scientifically grounded as to be, well, scientific (my favorite is William Sheldon’s Theory of Morphology (personality types as related to body types).

While it’s fun to compare systems… the price is usually depriving one of the singular insights afforded by a personality system, the fun, the whimsy of seeing a person interacting in a convenience store and suddenly realizing you’re watching a scott …or a roger… or (far more difficult) a clark and thinking I know them!!

(for instance: scotts will tend to exhibit brisker movements, clarks slower, rogers if they have a workshop are likely to have a pegboard for their tools (and if they do, it’s a lead pipe cinch they’re thinking to outline each tool to assure proper storage)…like that.

But more than that. the Wakefield Doctrine is a fun format for the never-ending fascination with people-watching.

as we always say, the Wakefield Doctrine is a fun and productive system for better understanding the world around us and the people who make it up

but thank you for the comment (they often provide a topic on morning I think, ‘Wait a minute! I’ve written thirty-eight hundred of these things… how can I say it differently!
