Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This is the Doctrine’s weekly contribution to the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop. Following is a list of people, places and things that have elicited the suggestion of an incipient mental state commonly referred to as gratitude.
1) Phyllis
2) Una
3) the. Wakefield Doctrine
4) gravesite renovation project update (Before-Currently-After). (the Before photo)
5) the Six Sentence Story bloghop … fine there, did an Ian Devereaux (ft Lou Caesare) Six and another installment (of the reboot) of the Whitechapel Interlude
6) the Carnivore Unicorn Challenge bloghop less fine there… interesting opportunity for insight (for we, the author-to-be (-istically)…speaking)
7) speaking of seasonal change: the rhododendrae in our front yard meadow are in full bloomage:
8) Speaking of grateful… suspect it’s good we don’t live in a neighborhood with an HOA (lol)
9) something, something
10) Secret Rule 1.3

Lovely rhododendron.
of all the chaotic flora on the property, they are my favorite
Lovely list, lovely meadow (and yes, be glad there’s no HOA, or even parish authority sending you letters about allowing your lawn to get out of hand).
lol
(full disclosure: there is a 50 foot wide strip of our lot that goes between the two abutters out to the street, drive, ya know… that grass I’ve gone and maintained as a good suburbanite)
The house looks like a lovely setting for a novel.
a bit mundane (for my tastes) but the epitome of practical design
Just stoppin’ by to say hi! Been a lil while, I know. But I very often lurk, even if I don’t comment, lol. But I wanted to hone in on your #8 there: HOAs. You know, even since I was a kid, I recognized that HOAs and I would *never* get along. What a quintessential rogerian thing, no? I figured out I *really did not like them* when I was about 15 and my parents were finishing construction on their new house. They got a nasty letter that said, “you have to break up the rock landscaping with greenery.” They’d just had a company bring landscaping rock and poured it in a design around the yard. They were scheduled to have other landscapers come in and plant low-growing bushes, along with grass and and other landscaping plants. But in the interim, they’d gotten that nasty letter threatening to take them to court if they didn’t comply. At that moment, I vowed to *never* live where there was an HOA. Then again, would I be a clark if I just totally embraced the rules of society? 😂
Hey! cyn thee ah*
Lurk away (One of the things we do better than the other two. the term lurk is made a pejorative by rogers, of course)
out here (in New England) not an overly high percentage of HOAs… mostly limited to condo developments (condo inventor motto: Let Build the Herd Homes and Houses!) and higher end new neighborhoods
Good use of words (for illustrating the Everything Rule)… “…if I totally embraced the rules of society” no. no you would not. a roger embraces rules, a scott breaks them and a clark… hmmm I like ‘ignore’ but that doesn’t quite convey the full impact of the relationship we have with rules and society …kinda that air kiss, semi hug (when we’re being careful because we want to ‘pass’)
otherwise a good synonym for embrace (for a clark)… how about……ignore!
lol yeah, like that
* I trust that is the correct pronunciation/syllabic emphasis
