Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This is the Ten Things of Thankful (TToT) bloghop.
Each weekend(ish) Dyanne goes out on the metaphorical porch and calls or whistles, (in-that-cool-New-York-fingers-to-side-of-mouth-way) that makes the boys fall in love and the girls grow insecure (and maybe, just a little, in love)… and those of us who frequent this sanctuary that Lizzi discovered and established as a virtual safe haven, (for clarks, people wandering the blogosphere and outliers… like I said, clarks), gather.
The doors open on Thursday and remain so, until the coming week.
The focus of activity, the theme, if you insist, is gratitude. The practice, (and therefore the practical outcome), is to encourage the discouraged, reaffirm the uncertain and, in at least one case, give permission to see where and what kind of adventure a blogger can find theyselfs entangled in, provided imagination, fingers and keyboard are given free rein.
1) Una
2) Phyllis
3) the Wakefield Doctrine. well, jeez there ain’t nothin on this page that can’t be traced back to the Doctrine, as a tool to self-improve myself.
4) the 20 Minute Live Real Estate Briefing (aka So-what-you’re-saying-is-this-Wakefield-Doctrine-thing-can-take-a-bad-postured-mumbling-through-hands-at-face,-eye-contact-aversive-person-and-make-them-appear-for-all-the-world-a-normal-lifeform; on a live, as in, no-retakes, setting?). Yes. Yes, we are saying exactly that.
We did Episode 2 last Wednesday. Not bad. Haven’t yet got the process down to stream the live zoom over to the live Facebook, but we had a few people attend. Not the worst thing, this lower attendance, we like it here off-off-….off Broadway. At least until we polish the act. Come see us next Wednesday at 5:30. Somewhere.
5) Six Sentence Story Want to practice your rhetorical chops? Want to read some really excellent flash fiction? This the place.
6) ‘the Whitechapel Interlude‘ and ‘the Case of the Missing Fig Leaf‘ My two serial stories, appearing on alternating weeks at the aforementioned Six Sentence Story.
7) We shoveled the driveway (photo at top) without the aid of mechanical (or pseudo-mechanical devices). Take that reasonable and realistic assessment of physical capabilities…. lol One more traction-less year.*
8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE (Anyone out there, on the fence, but can’t shake the feeling that participation would do more for the rest of this weekend than getting a good news phone call from someone you haven’t heard from in longer than you can remember? Come on….send it in. A single grat (with preferred attribution) and I’ll totally post it right here.
9) something, something
10) Secret Rule 1.3. From the Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules) stating, in part: “…[t]he incipient completion of a list of Ten Things is eligible for inclusion (and accounting for) in said List (of Ten Things of Thankful); to occupy, by tradition, the terminal Grat.”

I LOVE the winter scene at top! Wouldn’t want to BE there necessarily, but lovely to look at…like many a Christmas card :) What kind of dog do you have?–looks interesting.
Oh I totally love #4! I think I’m able to appear the extrovert for brief periods (and in a more than less safe zone of folks); but then I often retire with hands to my face, mumbling 2nd-guessed remorse: “what did I say? I’m a total idiot–what a horrid impression I’ve made!”
I have so much to be very grateful for…I should bring back the “thankful” posts in January… So, just color me thankful, joyful, emotional :) Blessings to you and your family, dear writer friend.
I totally agree (about the photo being better than the reality. way too cold)
Una is a Chodský pes (aka Bohemian Shepherd). Our previous dogs, Bella and before that, Ola were German Shepherds. Wonderful dogs. 90 to 100 lbs.
Una, weighs 55 lbs. We discovered the breed on the Internet… there is something in the eyes of this breed that is very much like German Shepherds…an active intelligence, a self-awareness. In any event, at the time there were no breeders outside of the Czech Republic, so we google-translate-talked to the breeder over there and made arrangements for Una to come to us. Quite the adventure. She probably has more air miles than I do. lol
As to #4 Needless to say I totally identify with what you say. My own experience supports the aspect of the Wakefield Doctrine that maintains that, although I am a clark, (and my personal reality is that of the Outsider) I have a significant secondary scottian aspect.
At certain times, in certain situations, I enjoy the qualities that are part of the scottian worldview (the Predator)… these are usually times of duress or excessive enthusiasm.*
Friend of the Doctrine Cynthia is an example of one of the people (a clark) who demonstrated this quality, even before we had the language to describe it… way back when, in the early days of this blog, she started doing videos on mediation. If you watched them, you’d be, ‘Holy smoke… she totally is at home’ (Which as everyone knows is the total opposite of how clarks respond to having even a still picture taken)
So we said… ‘We know she’s a clark but she is behaving like a scott’… Talking to her after it was like, ‘Who was that?!’ lol
The thing about this blog is that, since it is scientific, demographic, mathematically certain that most of the population is rogerian, (like 2/3s) the rest is made up of clarks and scotts…the likelihood of encountering other clarks is a lot lower than other rogers… As a result of this blog, I get the benefit of meeting clarks, (like Cynthia) who I would never in a million years would have met… and seeing and identifying with other clarks makes all the posts I’ve written over the years totally worthwhile.
…man! I guess my fingers needed to get some exercise. I might be borrowing your comment to write a post tomorrow on the topic of secondary and tertiary aspects
* yeah, I know… can’t hold me back, I’m so excited… right… lol
Your comments always brighten my day–whether we’re talking about “your stuff” or Bedelia stuff. Maybe I’m really tired…it’s 5:31 am and I should be thinking about bed, but I’m a night owl…anyway, there’s that level of fatigue when pretty much anything either make me laugh…or cry (kind of like with 4-year-olds!). Now I’ve forgotten the point I began with…oh well :) Oh, okay–the mental carousel went around and it came back: I was going to say I wish we were neighbors, because it would be way fun to have these discussions face to face :) But we’ll continue in the Comment Boxes.
Wow, interesting story about Una–way cool!! She looks very pretty…and smart, of course :)
New topic–what’s your expertise re “all things PC, Tablet”?? I’m driving myself mad trying to get any 2 experts to agree on pretty much anything…but I’ll stop there, until you answer my query. Thanks in advance, Clark…it’s absolutely ‘swell’ knowing you! :)
And after all that I forgot I’d need to copy/paste–sheesh, it must be past bedtime!
Booyah is right. Great work, on that and the list!
TY, MM
Another great week! Tell Phyllis I love her hat!
thx… she heard lol
Thank you Lisa, the hat adds some whimsy on a snow day.
