Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
What’s the hardest thing about learning to effectively apply the principles of the Wakefield Doctrine to your world and the people who make it up?
What’s the best thing, the, like, ‘Man, if I could only get a handle on that/change the way I/stop myself from getting all manipulated by that person’ about using this here Doctrine here?
Two words: perspective*
Or, as Mark Markie Aureoles would, (actually did) say,
Today I escaped all circumstance, or rather I cast our all circumstance, for it was not outside me, but within my judgments.
So, for our purposes, to get the most from our little personality theory, we would do well to project a tiny, little (moveable) bubble that contains (moving as they do, not giving any signs of surrounding them, as in totally transparent), the person we wish to understand. Inside that bubble is a separate (can I get a “Call it a personal reality! I dare you, I double dare you!!) reality.
All of this is necessary because to get the most from this exercise, we need to accept, (for the purposes of understanding), that what the other person is responding to might be quite different from the world and circumstances** that inform our decisions and thoughts and emotions at any given time.
I was hoping to do a short post, seeing how tomorrow is Six Sentence Story day, but the thing we discover about the perspective that comes with the Wakefield Doctrine is that not only is the world experienced by the clarks, scotts and rogers right now quite distinguishable, but it is this ‘difference’ thats the reason for exhibiting the personality traits of the Outsider, the Predator and the Herd Member, respectively. In other words, the personal reality I grew up and developed my outward-facing self was real.
But enough with the metaphysics!
clarks think…scotts act…and rogers feel.
The Outsider’s (clark) world is one of reason and rationale. They think, that’s how they am. (lol) Seriously, clark’s lives play out according to the premise that there is a reason we are different, that most everyone else knows something they do not and, if they never stop looking, eventually they’ll acquire the knowledge that everyone learned long ago and, by this knowing, become a ‘real’ person
The Predator’s (scott) world is one of action and reaction and, as that phrase implies, not a place where introspection is a worthwhile endeavor, real or metaphorical. The scott exists in a reality that puts a premium on alertness and aggressiveness, both literal and figurative. Detect and adapt, fight or flight, pretty binary a reality, no? That is the reason scotts are the one the crowd looks to, when they, (collectively), believe they need to follow someone… scotts are often wrong, never uncertain.
The Herd Member’s (roger) experience is like the multiplication tables that were used to teach the currently Old Readers about mathematics. You begin with a value, tag it with a ‘times’ and viola!! Instant Herd. You know what six (times!) 2 will get you, hell, you might even anticipate the answer. (My personal favorite was always the six times seven, the nines and eight times? Nuhuh not me!,I’ll pass on those, thank you very much…. the thing about the reality that is inhabited by rogers? It is a quantifiable world governed, (and maintained), by Rules. And, staying with our ancient Roman theme (?!!) the laural wreath is, among those at the center of a herd, the reward for sharing discovered Rules.
*totally one of my favorite ‘jokes’, and by the measure of the two thousand or so Doctrine posts, the oldest
** thats right, me and Markie Marcus …like Cathy and Patty Lane, I’ll tell ya
