TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Kristi hosts our TToT bloghop each week. We read, write, remember and add to ourselfs by participation in this celebration of the positive things in our (individual and collective) world(s).

For this week, my contribution:

1) Phyllis

2) Una

3) My work (and the occasion for a quiet Open House)

4) Call in from Friend of the Doctrine Cynthia. She told of her recent travel adventures in the American Southwest. (Were this a previous generation we would have gone to Cynthia and John’s house and they would have brought out a slide projector. But… (lead in to Grat #5)*

5) …none of this would or could have existed. The era of the vacation slides were the ’60s and ’70s. More significantly, our fiends, who live in a semi-mid Atlantic state would have been totally un-met friends, were it not for the technology that gave rise to the internet. Amazing changes in our common reality, non?

6) the internets and the compulsive curiosity of clarks. This week I was working on ‘The Case of the Missing Starr’ and was trying to find whether or not there was a fancy term for inserting flashbacks(of a sort) into a story. The reward for my effort? Chekov’s Gun.  “Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.”  How cool is this internet thing? That I should be able to stumble upon an obviously cool bit of knowledge, totally not related to why I was looking around in the first place, like that!

7) speaking of writing! Chapter 2 of ‘The Case of the Missing Starr’ is out. Publishing as a serial on ‘the Facebook‘, for god-knows what reason. Here is the link to the most recent installment. fun? sure. (For you die-hard WordPress blog fans, here is the link to the blog version)

8)THIS SPACE AVAILABLE. In case you’re not ready to dive into the deep end, with a full post and such, this is your opportunity. Send us your Grat and we’ll totally post it here at #8

9) Bonus (all have or had or can remember the energy that is available in the here and now)

10) Secret Rule 1.3

* working on Missing Starr I’m all about practicing my cliff-hangers lol

music vid (of course)

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Garden is looking well cared for – thank you.
I am thankful for long summer days.

  2. Kristi says:

    Una’s garden is looking great!
I believe #5 has a typo (the written equivalent of a Rogerian expression?) Anyway, it made me chuckle a bit. It is cool, though, that yester-year’s slideshow can now be accessed anywhere.
Speaking of slideshows, have you heard of Charles Phoenix? He made a career out of old slides! https://www.charlesphoenix.com/about/

lol spellcheck surely has a sense of humor… fiends!
I should have noted that it wasn’t simply Cynthia’s photos, but going on to google street view and going along the road to the places she told us about

  3. Lisa Tomey says:

    Great thankfuls!!

  4. Pat Brockett says:

Re #6 – A very cool discovery. I especially like your last sentence in #6. So true.

I am enjoying reading your serial on FB.

I hope to enjoy more “energy in the here and now” this coming week. I’m hoping to continue getting lots more done.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yeah… these rules of great writers, not too challenging! (so if I’m to take this rule literally, I need to find a way for the following to manifest in the story, “Stacking three dog-eared yellow writing pads and the 8×11 photos from a recent case” those pads and photos being the only things I saw fit to mention directly in Chapter 1.
      ayiiee

  5. It’s amazing how modern technology connects people, even more so for us, who grew up without it. I think I will always remember the pre-internet era.
Una seems to be enjoying life, this is how it should be.
    Have a wonderful week

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Isn’t that incredible… not only the disappearance of boundaries but the opportunity to meet people we would never encounter otherwise. v cool.
Una is my total role model for living life properly.
      You too.

  6. dyannedillon says:

I haven’t read Chapter 2 yet! No spoilers!

I didn’t see it myself, but according to my dad, Lewis moved about like Una’s video yesterday morning when he snagged my daughter’s work apron by the string, knocking over a dinning room chair in the process, then drug the apron down the hall and went under my bed with it, leaving a trail of crumbled paper in his wake.

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

She (Una) does that 0-60 in 1 second thing that totally makes a person smile in jealousy.. but then again, even when I was young, I was never that explosively spontaneous. I mentioned to Viola, ‘Una is my role model’.

  7. Oh to have that boundless energy, zest for life, and unconditional love that a dog has! It is impossible not to watch this video clip and smile! I loved seeing that the Una garden is still going too! How many dogs have their own dedicated garden?! I love that you always list Phyllis and Una, because really it is the people/pets in our lives that make up the bulk of our existence and shared experiences, and leave us with the happiest memories and feelings of contentment.

I enjoyed the photos of their Southwest journey that Cynthia shared on Facebook. And you are so right that the tremendous gift of Internet has been a blessing beyond compare in our lives, especially since we grew up long before it existed and therefore can make a valid comparison to life without cell phones and computers and most assuredly the Internet. I often think of the wonderful friends I’ve met and grown to know specifically through blogging. While I believe we were supposed to meet, it seems like it was facilitated in a most excellent manner!

Number Six definitely got my attention. I often struggle between saying too much and not enough in the way of descriptive background when I write. This made it all very clear and simple… it serves a purpose or it does not. I once worked for an Executive Director that taught us to condense our narratives of meetings and such in the same manner… is it essential information? If not, cross it out. At first I often felt she was heavy-handed with the mark out pen, but as time when on I developed an appreciation for her ability to be concise. I wish more of that would have rubbed of on my wandering word weaving. :-)

Congrats to you for moving ahead with a new serial story, your ability to do that amazes me! Blessings to you this week, and always!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

really, and it’s not only the energy, it’s the… spontaneous grace, un-reserved enjoyment, most of the terms that seem to represent the elusive state of living in the present.
definitely a bodacious roadtrip for Cynthia.. she has always had that willingness to find adventure and the talent for describing it in terms at once both personal and totally relatable.
total tug-of-war with the learning versus writing… often I have to stop trying to write, lest that part of me that would stop me holds up the learning and screams in glee, ‘see?! you aren’t anywhere near the point of having the right to… er, write. (stop laughing! I meant that seriously!!!)
      have a good week

  8. Sageleaf says:

I’m a wee bit late to the party, but thanks for the shout out and the compliments over at my place. :D Calling into the Doctrine is always fun!
That’s an awesome gif you have up there of Una, too!
And so sweet of Josie up there, hehe. I swear every Josie in my life that I know, has a heart of gold.
As for the insatiable knowledge of clarks…TELLLLLL me about it. Sometimes I just get overwhelmed with all the things I want to learn. And it’s *everything*. Quantum physics (to study more about energy and matter and how it relates to the spiritual realm and that which we cannot see). Coding. Yes, I downloaded a Mashable course to learn PYTHON and C++. If I ever get to it is another question. Just yesterday I was looking up how to create mandalas in Adobe Illustrator and then make them into kaleidoscopes in After Effects. AND THEN I was reading up about email marketing and how to be better at it. Then last night I was reading something by Don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. about being accepting of life….
    I am out of control.
    Hahah.
In any case, awesome TToT post as always.

so much that is not known, so little time… old and used bookstore and attics with cardboard boxes… heaven and hell in one lol
we search for the answer, fortunately we do acquire clues along the way and our efforts become increasingly productive, non?
