TToT -the Wakefield Doctrine-

Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)

Hosted each week by Kristi, the TToT (‘Ten Things of Thankful’) is not only a contemplation, (and sharing) of gratitude, it is an exercise in perspective. (More on this tantalizing notion down in the list, somewhere around Item 7 or so.)

So, for my Grat List of this last week of Summer:

1) Una

Una reading the riot act to aggressively invasive garden denizen.
(Landscape Orientation)

“I got this”
(Landscape Orientation)

2) Phyllis This is her arboreal lifeforms free-cafeteria  (“Why, yes, those are old mailboxes. Whatever else would you use?” lol)

3) Driveway Corn (photo to follow at end of day. Need to do some judicious grass cutting.)

4) the Wakefield Doctrine. Continues to be the basis for virtually all changes (of a positive nature) and survival of changes (of the negative sort). Such as life seems to persist in throwing in the path. I mean, seriously, at this stage of the game, we should have a clear vision of the remaining walkway. God knows, even if we don’t always pay complete attention, we surely must remember how wide and level it is at any point. Experience has (or should have) taught us that deviations, while sometimes threatening and always inconvenient, have little power over the pace we keep.

Anyway, the Wakefield Doctrine is a tool and a fun way to look at life and the people that make it up.

5) Saturday Night Call-in. still running after all these years* Every Saturday evening (I have one of those conference call apps) and wait on the line for people to call in and ask about the Wakefield Doctrine, (the invitation and the number is on the upper righthand side of the homepage). Can’t miss it. Anyway it’s fun. Cynthia calls in as does Alex & Denise. Last night we got a call from the progenitor roger (the one to the far left in the clarkscottroger photo that appears most everywhere). Enjoyable conversation. You should call in next Saturday 8:00 to 8:45 EDST (1-218-339-0422 access code: 512103#)

6) The Case of the Missing Starr.   So, we know that I’m always trying to improve my writing skills. The only sure way I know of is to keep writing. As much as possible. Sometimes current projects lose some of their energy and languish in the draft folder. For reason poorly understood, I decided to create a page in the Wakefield Doctrine Facebook page and start a serialized story. If you’re in the Facebook and did not receive an invitation to ‘Like’ the page, please click on this and like (and follow and such). This is a noir detective story. Should be fun. If you’re not on the Facebook but would like to get each chapter sent to you every Saturday, let me know in comments.

7) Perspective: the foundation of the Wakefield Doctrine. There is more than one way to experience the world. There are three. And they are equally real (for the individual). ipso facto, y’all.

8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE Stopping by and like what you read but weren’t prepared with, like a full, 10 item list? NP! Just send us one (without attribution as you prefer) and we will totally post it right here.

9) something, something

10) Secret Rule 1.3 “…the near-completion is totally something to be glad of, and, parsing that last clause (or phrase or whatever rhetorical device it represents) means one thing: Valid Item for List of Gratitude. [ibid, op. cit.  whathca.no ed. 2009-2019]”

* music vid

(lol…. no, wait let me explain! Not laughing at my choice of music video. I’m laughing at my non-choice of music. Not sure I can explain, (or even understand for myself), the process behind picking a music video to accompany a TToT or Six Sentence Story post. But it remains one of the more satisfying elements of the process.

So, anyway this morning I was all set to use Paul Simon’s ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’. Very catchy melody. But the lyrics. Lets just say… Mr. Simon is so a roger. And still I almost used it but the instrumental bridge, I was ‘ok! catchy melody, sure you’re so crazy but jeez lets keep it simple.’ In any event I decided no.

…so I decided to go to our scottian side.

clarkscottroger About clarkscottroger
Well, what exactly do you want to know? Whether I am a clark or a scott or roger? If you have to ask, then you need to keep reading the Posts for two reasons: a)to get a clear enough understanding to be able to make the determination of which type I am and 2) to realize that by definition I am all three.* *which is true for you as well, all three...but mostly one

Una is the perfect protector especially against attacking squash plants.

  2. So Una has snake dna in her? lol Look at how wide her mouth is open!
Always a treat when the progenitor roger calls in to the Doctrine. Good call!

  3. Lisa Tomey says:

People actually…gasp…call each other and talk on a phone? I’m intrigued…I may have to dial in. Oh wait ✋… Dialing would be tricky, rotary speaking. Nice ttot!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

yes, it (the Call-in) is a legacy from the earliest days of the blog. the thinking was, ‘If you find yourself stumped by some aspect of the Doctrine, call us up and we’ll help!’

  4. Kristi says:

Una would surely have her work cut out for her here. Let’s just say the mountainside is quite green and wild this summer! John’s planning on getting out the weed whacker in the near future, too.
    I like Phyllis’ mailboxes.

  5. Sageleaf says:

Love the Saturday night call-in. :) I hope to call in this upcoming Saturday. We got invited by some family friends to go on a hike. I’m trying to make it so that we get back earlier rather than later so I can call in. After all these years, I still love it!
I’m grateful for the Doctrine. We just got back home late last night (after two days of driving in the car…endless highway roads, I swear, lol). It’s awesome to travel and camp, but it’s equally awesome to get back home.
As for the Barber of Seville…I forever will think about Hootie, my brother in law’s Amazonian parrot who LOVES to sing that. Granted, he only sings “the baaaaber of Sevillleee” but still…it makes me smile. That parrot is a damned scott, I tell you. He DEMANDS your attention. But I love that green bird. lol.
Happy Monday! Hope you’re all doing great!

  6. I like the idea of installing arboreal lifeforms free-cafeterias, and re-using old mailboxes is a good idea.
When I read about your Saturday call-ins I recognized I rarely call people anymore. Well, I call my parents every Sunday, but that’s pretty much about it.
Let us know if Una was successful :-)
    Have a great week!

Those squash they are aggressive so I will be watching out. The call-in has been fun, there’s something special about talking to people who you’ve only known ‘in writing’.

  7. Wendy Harris says:

I could definitely use Una here, but I’m not sure if she would take kindly to the various critters roaming free (and dining) on the property… ground squirrels, rabbits, road runners, assorted birds, occasional feral cats, tiny lizards, and of course the uninvited ocassional rattlesnake.

I love Phyllis’ use of old mailbox for feeders. I have repurposed an old pet cage with a door just large enough for small varmits, but too small for the neighborhood dogs that run loose and gobble up all the food.

Your new writing project is very intriguing and I like that you are offering it on Facebook for easy access. I will add it to my reading list for future perusal.

Perspective is indeed everything, and if we are able to maintain ours, navigating this life journey is not so complicated after all.

I am still in the throws of WordPress chaos, as it is refusing to post any of my comments on other WordPress blogs, or I should say it appears to post them, then they vanish. I’ve sent requests for tech support today, and also published a request or help on the Community forum so hopefully it will get figured out and corrected before I grow impatient and implode my blog there. I do so detest having to struggle with simple things like the desire to leave someone a comment!! With any luck at all, this one will appear on your blog, let’s see what happens! At any rate, have a blessed week, Clark!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

Yeah, the mailboxes are fun and I’m sure the squirrels and deer appreciate not having to work for the food. Right there in the open.
The serial form is something that I used to write Almira and so, with …Missing Starr I figure if nothing, it’ll put the pressure on me more than I would feel if I just decided to write when I felt like it. The key will be the characters, the more real they are, the easier the writing. The pulp/Raymond Chandler/Robert Parker genre is both fun and a challenge (to simplify) so it should be good for me.
I hope you can get the internet to leave you alone on your comments. The funny thing is, they (the comments) come through, both at the same time… like there wasn’t a thing wrong. Not getting sidetracked or held for moderation or anything.
      Have a good week!

  8. Testing, testing! Apparently there were issues with both Akismet and my browsers. Some comments actually did post but I was unable to see them on my end. Hopefully all is corrected now. :-)

  9. Yes!! It worked!

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

      Excellent!
How frustrating for both commentor and commentee to not know if a comment is received.

  10. Pat Brockett says:

I love those arboreal feeders! Now whenever I see an old mailbox at a antique store or thrift shop, I’m going to think of Phyllis and her free cafeteria.

Hope you are able to have a corn crop, or at least another photo here.

Wow, Una has the “riot act” down pat!

Funny thing about phone calls these days. Texting seems to be the preferred method of communicating for many people. There may come a time when we no long are able to read handwriting and can’t recognize people’s voices unless we are around them frequently. :-(

    • clarkscottroger clarkscottroger says:

They seem right at home in the little clearing by the firewood.
They (the driveway corn) seem to be growing quickly. Should be high enough to show up in a phone photo by the end of the week.
      lol
I don’t mind email as a mood of communication, though they are still only as good as the writer for conveying any subtler than ‘Yes’ ‘No’ 3’oclock Thursday. Texting? ayyiiee!
The crazy thing is we have agents new to the businesss believing that texting is sufficient communication when they are representing clients in what is, more often than not, the largest single financial transaction they will engage in (selling and/or buying a home).
