Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
The TToT, (full and original name: The Ten Things of Thankful) is the creation of Lizzi Lewis. Both demonstration of one woman’s refusal to allow outrageous fortune defeat her and a bequest to those who would follow, continuing the virtual community of people who believe good qualities are enhanced and even multiplied when shared with others of like mind.
Fast forward several years and hundreds of posts. Kristi is the host of the TToT and, true to the original intent, she provides a place where people of good intent can come and share the parts of their lives that evoke a sense of gratitude.
This week I’ll start my grat list with the photo above.
1) Una (perfect lifeform)
2) Phyllis (exceptional woman)
3) Technology: we recently had a ‘whole house’ generator installed. Big investment, however, the utility infrastructure here in Rhode Island has become very sketchy. Being on well for water means that when the electricity goes off so does the indoor plumbing. We were resigned to have un-interrupted power for at least five years because of our decision. But just a couple of hours ago the generator came on because the power went out. Nice
4) the Wakefield Doctrine. I had an opportunity to tell someone about the Doctrine this week. A clark (which you might say is kinda hedging my bet lol). And, this person immediately understood it. I sometimes forget how amazing our little personality theory is until I have the fortune to see the reaction of a person when they assemble the principles into an additional perspective. Because, as we know, not only does the application of the Wakefield Doctrine permit us to know more about the other person than they know themselves, its also really fun.
5) This writing jones of mine. I find that, although I don’t spend nearly as much time writing as I should, it’s still way fun to have imaginary people doing interesting things in the pages of two or three stories (WIPs). And, in a very practical sense, I’m grateful that they’re all willing to step up when I have to write a Six Sentence Story.
6) I have, of late, found greater appreciation for the work I do. Probably due to the fortuitous appearance of two sets of people who are exemplary clients. Makes you want to do your own job better.
7) The Book of Secret Rules, aka the Secret Book of Rules
8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE (If you’re new to the TToT or just passin’ through, this Item is meant to allow you to get a feel for our little community. Sure, you can read the other posts, but theres something about participation in an exercise like this that adds a dimension of enjoyment. To that end I’ve left this Item on my TenList for your Grat. (sure, we talk kinda funny, but I did say that this was a community, right? what better way to enhance the feeling of belonging that sharing a group-specific language?)
9) Sunday Supplement
10) Secret Rule 1.3 (from the aforementioned BoSR/SBoR)

now I realize that we no longer burn leaves in the fall, however that very distinctive scent-memory, along with early darkness, totally creates a certain urban vibe….even here in rural suburbia
#1 & #2, yes!
Congrats on having the universe provide you the opportunity to experience your new generator :D
#4 Cool.
It (the power outage) was nicely timed, of short enough duration not to become tedious yet long enough for the sun to set snd appreciate the system.
Finding good clients is one of the best blessings we get when we have to work for ourselves. Hope and Ms. Phyllis are having a great weekend!
Agreed.
They (Phyllis and Una, not my clients, lol) went for a walking walk* along a semi-local bike path and took advantage of the clearing weather.
* as opposed to the ride walks that Una and I enjoy.
I’m with Denise. #1, #2, #4, well, all the #s. :) Congrats on the new ride, too! It’s fun meeting fellow clarks. I, too, have experienced the euphoria of which you speak when I explain the Doctrine to someone and they get it. lol
Fun stuff!
I would add you to the #s.
Nice picture of Una and my first trip to the woods in the new (2016) car.
Nice that you could test out the generator. Not often that losing power makes a TToT, but definitely fits in this post.
Not even as a ‘hypograt’ since we purchased the system for just this purpose.
Oh, wow, a power outage already! I hope it wasn’t from a storm. Glad you have that generator. We don’t have one, but considering we too have a well, it would be good to have one.
Your choice of music took me back many a year listening to the Platters singing this. I got lost on youtube a bit. LOL I didn’t realize this piece was originally written for a movie in 1933.
Not really a storm. Some wind (nothing over 40 mph) but the utility has neglected the trees around power lines and, after the gypsy moths that last couple of years, some significant size tree are shedding limbs…down onto the power lines.
The quality of service has been in decline the last couple of years and though we have had a generator for some time now, the whole ‘will the power stay off?’ wheel it out of the garage start it (pull cord!) was getting old faster than even I was.
So we got one of those whole house automatic affairs. Totally recommend it. Power goes out it turns itself on and when the power returns…off it goes.
There is a wealth of written-for-film music that I’m coming to discover. ‘The youtube’ totally facilitates expanding my own musical horizons.
