Welcome to the Wakefield Doctrine (the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers)
This is our…. hey, it’s the last Saturday in July (aka… time to step up on the slingshot-to-October) lets not shave, wear socks or bother with capital letters. (there are those who say that my people, clarks, don’t have a wild side. ha!)
this is the Ten Things of Thankful. created once upon by Lizzi (of the House of Lewis) as her own clark-like bootstraps (through which she succeeded in changing her frame-of-reference). hosted by Kristi, it is a place to register your gratitude. writing style and format are… shall we agree on ‘tolerantly casual’? Ten is the number cited in the title, but, of course, there is a certain Book of Secret Rules (aka Secret Book of Rules) that allows for all sorts of tomfoolery*, provided it is of good intent.
1) Una
2) Phyllis
3) the Writers Club Now this is a recent development. A club. People who enjoy writing. (Only requirement for membership: the willingness to answer the following question: Do you think there’d be a difference between being a member of a group or… belonging to a really cool club? (lol… no, I’m serious. And it’s an essay question. Compare and contrast. You remember!) Warning! The ‘clubhouse’ is a blog (at the link) when you get there you’ll see one Post. It is (as I refer to it in the most recent entry) the refrigerator wall for the club. at the moment. leave a comment, a question whatever. (The answer to the un-asked question: At this point some hardy souls, adventurous denizens of the world virtual. Val and Mimi, Denise and Kerry and Pat Brockett at present.)
4) hey Zoe! you owe me an answer to the qualifying question (for a trial membership in the Writers Club) and DSM-5 citation…. tell Joules to let the bears down from the tree and send a photo
5) new correspondent** Lorraine. She stopped in last weekend with a fun TToT post.
6) Pat for her joining in on a Six-duet over at the Six Sentence Story
7) Driveway Corn
(There’s a bright, golden haze on the meadow driveway
The corn is as high as a elephant’s eye rearview mirror
And it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky)
8) THIS SPACE AVAILABLE (this is for any Readers, fans, followers, blog wanderers and tourists, if you feel like you’d like to participate but are hesitant… (“I’m sure all those people are published and professional writers, surely I’ll look silly. except for that Doctrine guy, what’s the deal with him? Don’t he realize that people might not get the ‘humor’?”) send in your ‘One Thing of Thankful’ and we’ll put here at Number 8. Serially!
9) Sunday Supplement Phyllis and Una go for a non-9-mph-passenger-seat-with-the-window-a-safe-one-third-up-around-the-abandoned-golf-course-where-the-scents-and-smells-are-like-driving-through-the-Mall-of-America-at 33-mph-in-a-convertible-with-the-top-down ….walk.
10) Secret Rule 1.3 (go ahead, ask! the BoSR/SBoR is there to be used by men and women who toil over a smouldering*** keyboard.)
music vid?
* lets see you come up with a emoji for that
** that should be ‘participants’… but clearly I’m all caught up in the winds of time reaching gale force and can’t help myself.
*** for our Founderess, for all of being the our cultural taproot and home to the Bard, they still can’t lose the extra ‘U’s
Driveway corn. Alright! Why, when the cobs are all for the pickin’ you can drive in from work real slow like down the driveway, roll the window down and pick dinner right offa the stalk :D Now how cool is that lol
long as we don’t attack rustlers and varmints
Phyllis is totally rocking that car. I miss Zoe. I hope she joins in I love this blog hop because familiarity never builds contempt.
actual photo of her leaving for the beach. Yeah, sent her an invite to the Writers Club and such.
oh, oh…. almost forgot, have a new survey up at the group.
Wow, this is an awesome list. I love the idea of the writers club and will check it out too.
Thanks so much for visiting over to my blog. I saw you commented using Twitter so I’ll respond to your comment here, because else you get no notificaiton of it. My blog tagline refers to the fact that we’re a trauma-based multiple (ie. dissociative disorder, not officially diagnosed anymore). Re this, I love your reference to DSM-5, LOL.
Thanks, Astrid
Yeah, about that twitter… (good call on your part)…I don’t really use it but for reasons I don’t understand, I have less trouble when going out to make comments on other blogs using twitter sign in (I suspect I should go over to twitter and see if I don’t have six thousand comments (and an offer to make $2,333,555. dollars a week by putting up an easy-to-make- website!)
Speaking of websites, when you get over to the Writers Club, it’s (currently) pretty much a ‘One Post Blog’. (But the one post is our refrigerator door) Feel free to comment and if you like to join, let us know! We’ll immediately send out the membership packet and secret qualifying question!*
This is a pretty darn good bloghop, nice variety in posts. And….and! we have a Book of Secret Rules (aka the Secret Book of Rules) which, to the best of my knowledge is exclusive to this here ‘hop here.
* lol… the secret question get re-phrased everytime I mention it… Secret Membership Question**: Do you believe there is a difference between being a part of a writers group as compared to a writers club? Historically, clubs have better facilities and sometimes even crests on the clothing. Compare and Contrast: If you were in a club with Lovey and Ginger and Maryann, who is more likely to get you on the entertainment committee?
** for the non-old, the above are three characters from Gilligan’s Island.
That’s the best driveway corn i’ve ever seen. Of course, it’s the only driveway corn i’ve ever seen.
Love your list, as always.
Driveway corn, spiral corn–I’m remembering the movie Secondhand Lions. :-) Have you seen it?
no in it’s entirety (I did just google it and watched the scene where everything in the garden was corn, however… lol)
I think that corn is going to be as high as an elephant’s eye very soon, well, maybe not quite that high. LOL
The smells of an abandoned golf course, hmm…mall of America smells, hmm…I think I need to get out more to even know what scents to imagine. If I take that to mean land that was once manicured and now gone back to Mother Nature’s design, and the mall of America meaning how the land once appeared with all the native plants, I can totally imagine that.
The blades of corn make a perfect little frame around Una’s face. Well trained dog to sit just so while you took the photo. LOL
no so much well trained as lots and lots of photos lol (and my phone camera has a really annoying photo-randomizer quality… touch the button and the shutter will click…anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds later lol (have tried to find out whats wrong, but as with far too much of life, I’ve learned to accept it and now take inherently random photos))
You are a rock star! Just don’t take Una into a house on fire. And you have seriously good intentions with your photography, which counts for more than anything! Love your blog.
thanks K.
I enjoy the photography thing if for no other reason than with digital photos the opportunities to stumble upon a really picture are nearly unlimited.
Another entertaining list! And, I have requested Roadmarks through the library system. So, someday last week’s #5 . . .
Club and group; group and club. Club certainly sounds more formal!
Just finished my own re-reading (amazing writing, the chapter ‘structure’ in particular), perhaps more formal (especially if we all decide on blazers with crests) however, I’m hoping for more juvenile fun as well (not that a proper country/social club is not inherently juvenile, however…. since arriving in the world virtual, I’ve found myself irresistibly drawn to the metaphor of early socialization*, surely I’m not unique in that, however thats the kind of association that comes to mind when I remember what I imagined it would be like to be in a club. (lol… (please… don’t let her identify with that… the fate of clark is not all fun…**))
let me know when you’ve finished your re-read and then, if it doesn’t jump out at you I can give you the set up. (hint: it has everything to do with my habit of exploring the world through google maps, specifically by getting ‘down’ to street view level and going up and down streets and avenues, highways and lanes.)
* which I believe qualifies in this context as an oxymoron, being a clark and such…lol
** Doctrine joke
